"Shelter" is a music video created through a collaboration between Porter Robinson, Madeon, and the Japanese animation studio A-1 Pictures.
It is a wonderful blend of animation and music, with rhythms and sound effects perfectly synchronized with every scene transition and visual detail.
The story? I recommend avoiding the synopsis beforehand and diving into the video completely blind, just as I did. Read it afterward. That way, you can fully experience your immediate impressions and then see how much of the authors' intended message you managed to grasp.
In these few minutes, you might witness a dream, a memory, a fantasy, a virtual reality, or even a posthumous vision. Let your emotions and imagination take the lead.
What I saw was a parallel world, one of many possible realities. Bu…

A short 6 min music video. Why this is even considered anime at all is beyond me but if the site says so ill bite since ive seen it. This site also says you need a minimum amount of text for reviews. But that doesnt work well here. Theres just no justification to have more than maybe 5-6 sentences to review. People making long ass reviews are either taking the Piss out of this or chasing ghosts pretending theres a story or this being deep. Well its not. I dont know if the text so far is enough to make up for the short review so ill play it safe and add some ehhhs to it. Or maybe ill go full Japanese with som etoooo instead.
Shelter is visually pleasing etoooo but theres no story etoooo but the song is actually great etoooo so for that i enjoyed it. Ill give it an 8 etooo which is 99% for…

"Even if those memories makes me sad. I've got to go forward, Believing in the future. Even when i realize my loneliness, and i'm about to lose all hope, those memories makes me stronger. I'm not alone... Because of you." The message that gives us hits so deep in our heart.
This is what i've experienced everyday and all of you have too. The loneliness that can sometimes makes us sad, or happy, thinking about the sad past of ourselves. Whether it's a bad past or good past, you will never get enough of it.
This manages to tell a whole movie's worth of story in 6 minutes and provide a 10/10 story that genuinely brings tears to my eyes.
I can guarantee that this song will make you sad if you've never listened to this. If you're a big fan of EDM and have never watch this, please give this a…

Do you choose death to save your own soul, or live like that? Well I think the truth is: in this story, no one has a choice, except Rin. She is the only thing left of humanity: the right to choose.
As far as I know, Rin is trapped in a simulated world and never wakes up, but I object. I would like to think of this story in a more humane way, that of her father.
Surely the Earth was destroyed, and all human efforts were in vain. But Shigeru sent his daughter to space that way. Many will call him selfish and cruel. But believe me, in that situation, we will understand his decision.
Somewhere in the document files, there will be hidden messages from the father. One day, he will let Rin decide whether to live or end her own life, something that no human being has been able to, including Rin's…

A short but amazing story
Music is suit the animation well. lovely soundtrack for a beautiful anime
Animation is great as well
Story is very touching
It is short anime but still invokes my emotions within, I wish this to be made into a full series it has the potential.
Creating a world that you please is a best thing everyone wished for in there lifetime.
The end make me a bit sad but it shows the reality that you cant have your way in making of your world that you like, but represent hope.
I highly recommend everyone to watch this.

Shelter has changed my life, and I mean that in the best way. I made my account to write this review.
I watched this shortly after release, since I’m a huge PR fan. I’ve listened to the song and rewatched the video dozens of times by now. So let me get into it.
MUSIC:
It’s Porter Robinson, so of course I like it, though I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I think it gives off the effect of wonder (Rin) the main character feels. (I always heard “it’s so wonderful” during the vocal chops, but I know some people hear “Itsu kawaru no” which is Japanese for “when will it change”. I think that’s also a valid way of hearing it and might actually be intentional but I have no idea.). The short film was obviously made with the song in mind since it synchs up nicely.
CHARACTER DESIGN/CH…

Story: 5
I thought this story was good at first, but compared to any piece of anime, it doesn't really compare.
Art: 8
This was my introduction to anime, and this art does not disappoint. It looks like something from a Makoto Shinkai film. If it was full length, it would go above any of Shinkai's work. That said, the ending is weird. Not a fan of that.
Sound: 10
Great music that fits the message of the video. The Japanese voice acting for the intro and closing are incredible, with a lot of emotion put into it.
Character: 8
Those voice acting bits add a lot to the main character. This could easily be a full-length movie, and be acclaimed.
Enjoyment: 8
Although I love this, the song is repetitive at times, so I don't visit it often.
Overall: 7

This six minute short is one of the most emotional and beautiful pieces of work I have seen. With an amazing soundtrack, touching story and breath-taking animation, this short portrays a heartwarming yet simple tale that shows the impact of both love and solitude in only a matter of minutes. Keeping the narratives to a minimal, it relies on its beautiful visuals to portray its simple yet tear-jerking story and does so perfectly. The animation is some of the best I’ve ever seen, with a gorgeous combination of colors and contrasts, beautiful transitions and vivid imagery that makes it hard to look away from. It’s just so easy to watch and fun to look at that you want it to never end.
The story is clear and simple, yet evokes a feeling of sorrow mixed with bliss; it just leaves you wanting…

This single episode encompasses everything that anime could give you. Joy, sorrow, belonging, grief and the love you just suddenly feel in your life. It's amazingly directed with a great taste of music that really fits into the creative scenes. It's emotional and heart-wrenching. I loved this, and even if this was 6 minutes long, it already had such a huge emotional impact on me. Damn, might as well cry. Everything is a 10/10 for me.
Story is simple and straightforward, yet hits like a truck in a mere four minutes. You understand what the plot is, and then you feel sad.
The art is gorgeous, could not have asked for a better artstyle. I align myself with one of the comment I've read on the episode; "You can pause ANYWHERE in this video and have yourself an Anime Wallpaper." That is a huge…

Two days ago, I would have given this short film/ music video a 5 after watching it twice. I felt like there was barely anything in there to attach my emotions to. Sure, I got the plot, and that ending does catch you a little off guard, but it was all too short and the pacing was too fast. The anime does not give enough time to absorb Rin or her woes. Consequently, I just decided that it is an average anime that, while full of potential, is restricted by its short run time.
But then the soundtrack got stuck in my head, even hours after watching it. Gave it another try. Luckily, I understood what the appeal was this time.
I am not really familiar with the electronic genre so I don't know what the general vibe is. But as far as Shelter goes, it has a peppy sound to it. It sounds positive…

Shelter is the official music video for Porter Robinson and Madeons song of the same name. It's six minutes long and tells a nice contained story that resonates with the themes of the song it was made for both visually and in terms of narrative.
Story 8/10
Shelter is six minutes long and a music video foremost, so it's story doesn't get too much time to develop. With that being said, it's very well told and it's themes resonate very well with the song. I'll go more into detail about that in the sound section, but the story is nice told in the contained six minutes.
Art 10/10
Shelter is animated beautifully. There's a wide variety of shots and surreal imagery that add to the overall feel of the video. The colours also range from bright and vibrant to a little more dark and dreary, the v…

It is simply indescribable the feelings I feel for this little music video, which despite being so small in terms of minutes, it manages to surprise both its technical and its past message, but first let's go by parts.
The plot is very simple, a girl who finds herself in an illusory situation which she cannot perceive but at the same time can feel that the whole place is a disappointment just to make her happy, that changes when she confronts her own security that kept the place locked up and from a feeling that carries along with the music it becomes more and more impossible for you not to fall in love with the clip.
The characters are not many, but a sentimental construction made in Rin and in her relationship with her father is something to be applauded, these little scenes of interac…

Personal Thought: It is crazy how a 6 minute video can hit you so hard. I recommend watching three times so you get the full experiance and analyze whats happening. Story was great in the amount of time it had. We defenitly need more types of videos like this because maybe one day it would turn to movies and start a new era of anime. THAT WOULD BE SO COOL!!
Story: The first half of the story was pretty intresting seeing how you dont have a clue of whats going on. So it leaves many questions through out the video. Then all those questions was all put togther with a wholesome and really sad backstory of how she got there. I repeat in 6 minutes.
This left me wanting a movie so badddd!!

It's music videos like Porter Robinson and A1-Pictures' 'Shelter' that remind me that when it comes to profiteering, passionless entertainment thrown together shoddily, it's not the technical ability you have to examine, it's the cheap, tacky, disingenuous, and quite frankly offensive elements of it you have to judge.
Because it is quite absurd to me that so many people seem to hail Shelter as some revolutionary, influential piece of art when I fail to see anything Shelter has done different from other emotional shows. And to call it emotional is such a disservice to all the shows that invoke emotions using the well-structured plot and relatability. What has Shelter done differently from Clannad, AnoHana, and PlaMemo but be worse and almost condescending in nature?
I won't give it the us…

I knew in advance it had 6minutes so I wasn't expecting much.
I saw it, I liked the music and the story was sweet.
I was happy you know it's simple and sweet no big deal.
I go to read the reviews and see what others think and maybe someone will say that there is actually more stuff I don't know, and the first thing I read is a person hating on it xD I know it's not the best thing ever but dude what's so wrong with this?
People are so uptight some times, relax and enjoy these sweet moments :) And since is the first time I ever write a review and this is all I want to say and MAL is asking me to write a longer review every time I submit this, I am just writing this random stuff now xD

not even an anime. I can't believe Nico98_ even rated this. I'm shocked to discover that my favorite reviewer has even put in the time to rate something like this. I mean common man, I just follow your reviews for the anime, man. The music was OK everything by porter robinsin is mainstream and not cool as it was when it was underground and stuff. I really feel like adding an anime-like music video to something like this makes it even worse because this itself is not an anime so I cannot see someone review it as such. I don't mean to be biased but porter robinsin so aug 12 2014 goodbye to a world... Cant we like something more nuanced these days. Like one piece!

I heard about this video from a few YouTubers who are raving about it. After viewing it, I can see why.
It was beautiful, in every way. A-1 Pictures did a tremendous job showing a world literally made up by your mind, its limits being only the limit's of the creator's imagination, the creator here being a 17 year old girl. And her imagination is vast and wide, the landscape being broken down and redrawn in many unique ways throughout the 6 min video. It also had a story, one that needed almost no words and was amazing to behold.
It definitely hit the right chords with me, as it was super touching and it ended with me very satisfied. Go ahead and take a few minutes out of your day to witness this, you won't be disappointed.

For starters i absolutely love this music video and i can proudly say that i have watched it more than a hundred time, it's amazing storytelling and artwork truly resonates with my heart.
The first time i was watching this video i was only in for the music and didn't pay much attention to the animation or more precisely i was overwhelmed by the music which by the way is still one of my favourites, the next time i decided to watch it when Gigguk recommended it in one of his videos and this time i decided to actually understand the story and when i did Man! it hit me so hard, it is truly a masterpiece.
Especially when the girl starts to remember about her past and how her dad tries his best to keep her happy and save he beautiful smile even even when the world was about to end and even wen…

I don't watch ONA normally..
But I found this really great.. not just because of the cute character but the story and the animation..
I must praise the animation for a short time..
I could relate with the words literally...
and the way the story was shown.. I liked the simple melancholic story with the music.. I like the music even more.. and when I finished watching it ,there is an unknown sadness that has filled me..
This is a piece for you to relate to in your sad melancholic moments.. and also the simple message with which you can actually feel good after finishing the episode..

If I´m here because of FIFA 17? Of course I´m here because of FIFA 17. In fact, I watched this even before I actually started watching anime. I remember going through Ultimate Team and listening to this song, one of the absolute bests of that game and of the entire FIFA sagas. Besides that, let´s talk about the actual video. Even they tell us a short, really compact story, I really liked it and it´s actually really deep. Visuals are outstanding, as expected from the great A-1 Pictures, and everything was really great. Even the character, Rin, is actually very great and lovely, although I would have prefered it to be a little longer so we could find out more about her and her world. For just six minutes, you enter a different world, a different story, and just enjoy it. Actually really grea…
