My Oni Girl

My Oni Girl

Introduction

Despite his kind and selfless personality, high school student Hiiragi Yatsuse struggles to make friends with his peers. One evening on his way home, he stumbles across Tsumugi, an eccentric girl searching for her mother. Without much explanation, she quickly invites herself over to his house. With Tsumugi's help, Hiiragi escapes an encounter with a supernatural creature that has appeared in his room. Tsumugi then reveals her true identity—she is actually a demon-like being called an oni. When Hiiragi recognizes Tsumugi's cherished amulet, he agrees to take her to the shrine where it originated from. Embarking on a journey to find Tsumugi's mother, the two meet new faces and overcome challenges along the way. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

My Oni Girl The best thing about the movie is probably how it looks visually. But over all its a very average movie. Only teens might like the movie. But I was bored most of the movie. I was never sold by the 'Oni' lore, I didn't find it interesting. The story is not that unique, but I didn't predict what happens near the end. Art style is is fitting for the genre. Beyond visuals there are some touching moments concerning family. And its a decent adventure. Recommend to only teens, who want gentle supernatural anime. A light fantasy road movie.

Such a classic. Perfect for relaxing. It starts off laid-back, then comes the classic dramatic twist halfway through, followed by a dramatic resolution before the end, and it wraps up with a happy ending. Most movies work like this. Personally, I don’t enjoy anime movies (unless they’re a direct sequel to a series), since they all follow this exact plot structure—every single one of them, even if it’s not supposed to be a drama. Why?? Why turn everything into a tragedy?? In that case, I’d rather watch Western movies, which are also funny and know how to make an entire film full of comedy, unlike in the East, where they have to cram drama into everything.

I watched this movie on 28 February 2026. It is a supernatural fantasy movie that mixes mythical creatures and fantasy elements with a subtle love story. The main characters go on a journey to find Tsumugi’s mother, which becomes the major part of the film. The story is about a teenage boy who slowly learns how to express his feelings. I will not say much more because it will become a spoiler. Even though the story feels a bit slow, it is still one-time watchable. The animation is also good. So I will give it 6 out of 10. Content Type: Movie (Anime Film) Genre: Fantasy, Supernatural, Coming-of-Age, Romance Writer/Director: Directed by Tomoaki Shibayama. Written by Yuko Kakihara. Produced by Studio Colorido for Netflix.

I was expecting something a little more adult, but instead I got a rather naive fantasy fairy tale, which was quite good. It is a relatively unpretentious fairy tale, a bit in the style of Ghibli films. What annoyed me a little about the film was that the main character is too kind-hearted and at the same time quite irresponsible when he randomly runs away from home (and in his pajamas, and no one is surprised by it 🙃). The story itself is anyway quite watchable and taking into account the fact that it is really a Japanese fairy tale for children, it is quite good (+ small point for mentioning the Czech Republic in the film).

My Oni Girl is a modern fantasy coming-of-age story that blends youthful loneliness with Japanese folklore, exploring the emotional distance people sometimes feel even when surrounded by others. The story centers on Hiiragi Yatsuse, a kind but socially awkward boy who constantly tries to please everyone around him. Despite his efforts, his attempts to fit in often leave him feeling isolated, as his kindness is rarely understood in the way he hopes. Hiiragi’s life changes when he encounters Tsumugi, a mysterious oni girl who suddenly appears in the human world searching for her missing mother. Unlike Hiiragi, Tsumugi is emotionally direct and impulsive, expressing exactly what she feels without hesitation. Their contrasting personalities quickly form the foundation of the story. While Tsumu…

Dissapointing This anime is nothing new like next netflix FILLER. Its the most average anime but make it worst. Music is like from disney and not memorable. The animation is classic and cute. Story boring and worn out. No need to watch it, really. Go watch anything else but not another netflix FILLER. The logic in this that kid just run away from home and not tell parents and parents was SO CHILL about that at first. It's illogical and puzzling, with zero realism and any emotion from any adults. I know it's a fantasy tale, but please, people. It punt me to sleep so badly. Go watch like grass is growing or anything else. But if u enjoy mid go for it.

This certainly is one of the movies of all time. It looked nice, the main girl is cute... I just... what in the world was the point of the movie? I mean literally. What was the movie about? I just finished it and like. I don't know? There's obviously themes presented in the film and anyone can connect what type of lesson those themes are usually supposed to lead to. Supposed to. But instead it just felt like 'things happened' and the movie never actually presents any of the lessons you'd think there'd be with the themes given, and trying to say those lessons are there is just making things up to put meaning into something that didn't have any. Like if you pointed a camera at some people doing things in real life and it wasn't a written narrative meant to have a purpose or point. It almost…

I went into *My Oni Girl* with high expectations because I had never watched an anime with an Oni theme before, and I was curious about how they would handle the romance (plus, the art looked good). The story starts with a boy who struggles with expressing himself and has problems with humans. When I thought about it, I wondered how they would approach the "Oni girl" theme, but even before the main character's story began, it was already over. Suddenly, he leaves his home and goes on a journey with a girl he just met (not even a day ago), and this journey lasts for nearly three days. As soon as I saw this, all my expectations were shattered. I kept watching, but the anime neither gave a good viewing experience nor a solid story. Everything progressed too quickly and ended abruptly. Out of…

"I'm simping my oni girl" real title. It's basically like real life but we don't get girl. He is spineless boy who is keeping his feelings inside and can't say no. And she is Oni wanting to use everything even this poor mc to get what she wants, at least she learns to appreciate him later. About story, its not bad but all explanation we get is in the end of movie and movie itself i couldn't feel entertained enough. Romance like any other movie felt really lacking and out of nowhere , just to be here for sake of some stronger connection in movie. This is good movie to pass time, nothing else.

There's a world that is being condensed into such a tiny portion, they prioritize the characters over it and that makes the balance of this story tip-off. There's a big heart inside, but the medium is just too small, the story goes into cardiac arrest so often. And the main girl, i don't like to be mean, but she never breaks out of that token, FLCL, manic-pixie-girl kind of character that she is. The story could benefit so much more if she be less mature, less collected, and be more akin to her naive age group. She just so hard to relate.

Painted Cake. This anime is aesthetically pleasing and tugs at heartstrings early on. About 20 minutes in, however, it becomes obvious that there's nothing really going on. And I don't mean there's no action; I'm happy to watch a non-action anime. What I'm not cool with is when a movie pretends to have more going on underneath it than it actually does. This is one such anime. For example: the girl is blushing pretty much all the time. This was cute at first, but got tiresome after the 20th iteration. At the end, all I was left with was a sense of wasted time. Imo, the best use of this anime is to play in the background while cooking. Please don't devote your whole attention to this painted cake.

I was quite surprised to see that quite a few people didn't like it. Indeed, story-wise, it was too normal and had nothing that stood out. However, I feel that this anime isn't that bad after all! Throughout the story, we will be presented with beautiful animation and some touching scenes. Moreover, this anime teaches us to be open in everything, and also indirectly gives a message that communication is very important in life. If we suppress our feelings too often, bad things will happen. In this anime, the "bad" thing is that a small spirit will appear from the human body that can invite snow spirits. Then, the human will become a target or prey for the snow spirit. Well, overall, this anime is recommended. Not bad, and not too good. So, let's just say that the quality is somewhere in…

A wholesome, Makoto Shinkai/Gibhli fantasy-type adventure with pretty cute animation. The colors of the world and the characters design are good. They're just paper-thin personalities. The story is your standard roadtrip through Japan with sprinkles of fantastical. It really reminded me of Suzume, but much less weird (I mean nothing beats a simp girl who falls for a chair). The lore itself is alright, although, kinda makes me hate that village.😅 I wish My Oni Girl would have made me feel for more magical about the world, despite the beautiful art. I'll say this is a good watch with the family. It's not gonna spook your young child out like some creatures in Spirited Away, nor will it come close to the impact. Pretty fine time.

It's Rare for me to write a review, unless i was completely disappointed in something; Overall the movie wasn't impressive. The animation was great, can't complain about that. But what else to say? The story is completely a mess. The goal is met, but there isn't really any build up that makes sense. After 30 mins I started watching how long till the movie ends. It was boring. No spoilers, but you have the ML who is pretty much a push-over and can't express his real feelings. Then you have the FL that wants to find her mom. That isn't much of an issue. But then they kept introducing characters that have nothing to do with the story, they don't even really provide useful support for the ML or FL. MC dads are just there for a purpose or a message. but i don't understand the message they…

“My Oni Girl” is what happens when You want to do too much in too little time. Have You read Franz Kafka? He had an interesting way of building his stories and world. Weird things just happened to his protagonists and were never explained. The most known one is “Metamorphosis”. Oh, You got turned into a giant bug but still retain Your mind and sense of self? Yeah… tough shit, deal with it. “My Oni Girl” builds its plot similarly. A lot and I do mean A LOT of things never get explained. In Kafka’s case it somewhat works because the event itself is a gateway to the hero’s mind. Once Gregor Samsa wakes up as a bug the story is concentrated on his internal struggle, thoughts and meditations with plot showing its head only to push the story forward. This movie is far from this level of writing…

If I could give this a 0 I would. I’ve never felt the desire to write a review until now but this was truly the most bizarre and stupid movie i’ve wasted my time watching. It felt like it was trying to be like a new Spirited Away, but whoever wrote it had no idea how to tell a story or how to interact with other people. The art style was nice but that’s about it. All characters were stupid, nothing was even borderline realistic and I think if you have a brain you’d find it predictable and would dislike it. I’m literally just trying to get this review published because I don’t know what to law to write. It is not a unique story.

the first few minutes is one of those situations that you really have to pay attention and understand subtexts to get what the boy is going through and why he has problems with his father, and this conflict is never stated verbally or outloud despite being one of the main conflicts of the movie, even at the end. the movie really believes in the viewer's smartness to get this just by watching and that's super i super appreciated since this is getting rarer in movies, it respects its viewers on this and i love this part of the movie. after he meets the title girl the movie becomes really tropey and cliche, with all stuff you can hope to find in a recent "boy finds a girl with some magical twist" anime movie. but i appreciate they still avoided recurring misunderstandings and drama triggers…

"My Oni Girl" is a film that impresses with its technical side and visual beauty. Studio Colorido has once again proven that they can create visually spectacular productions, full of vibrant colors and detailed compositions. The elements of road cinema, fantasy, and romance are well balanced, making the film enjoyable to watch. Unfortunately, the film falters in terms of its plot. A lack of depth, issues with character development, and problems with narrative pacing, especially in the second half of the film, lower the overall quality of the production. Inconsistencies in presenting the fantasy elements further contribute to the impression that the story is chaotic and not fully thought out. The film is suitable for watching with family, offering light and visually appealing entertainmen…

I’ve been seeing a lot of comparisons with that of “a whisker away” and liking this more. I can see why, since this is rather unique with its story line and animation. Giving a rather “spirited away” vibe and the mix. That being said, I rather prefer whiskers than oni girl ~ 1. the story tends to get rigid regarding certain scenes that it makes it seem rather rush, leading to an “i don’t get it” impression. 2. it may be because i am watching this as a dub, but i just can’t sense that some of the characters v.a’s feeling the story. not saying i can do better, but i guess i would’ve preferred that they didn’t made one. 3. the main characters themselves, especially the girl can be rather confusing like what do you want gurl?? i stayed to finish because i wanted to see a development, i thi…
