I'm rating it for what it is, and not compared to other genres. It's a childrens show made in the 90s. It's the monster of the week style action comedy you would expect, but with the time travel twist. It isn't too serious, the characters aren't amazingly deep. But it's fun, it's interesting, and the monster designs are creative! If you're looking for something not too serious It's a fun enough watch. If I caught this on saterday morning cartoons as a kid, I'd probably remember it quite fondly. The last few episodes they went for a bit more serious plot to wrap it all up, instead of episodic, which was pretty fun.

The show is about Flint Hammerhead, a boy from prehistoric time who was resurrected from a fossil, and they decided to make him a Time Detective... ? He has friends to help him on his mission Sarah and Tony Goodman, they are the brains he's the muscle. Flint also has his dad with him, Rocky Hammerhead (ironic name) who could not be resurrected fully so he's stuck as a flat square bolder that Flint used as a weapon. The missions are for them to go back in time, through different time periods in search of these 'cute' fury-like creatures called Time Shifters that have been scattered through time in order to protect the time line, before the bad guys do. This series is similar to Pokemon Digimon Dragonball I haven't watch this in ages, so i'm unable to give a rating since i was very youn…
