A Will Eternal

A Will Eternal

Introduction

One will to create oceans. One will to summon the mulberry fields. One will to slaughter countless devils. One will to eradicate innumerable immortals. Only my will… is eternal. A Will Eternal tells the tale of Bai Xiaochun, an endearing but exasperating young man who is driven primarily by his fear of death and desire to live forever, but who deeply values friendship and family. Yi Nian Yong Heng (known as A Will Eternal), adapted from the hit web novel by author Er Gen, is a rare 2D Chinese animation (donghua) that swaps gloomy grimdark tropes for laugh-out-loud comedy, vibrant action, and a lovable, cowardly hero who just wants to live forever. - Story & Plot = 9 The narrative subverts the "heroic warrior" archetype. Bai Xiaochun is driven entirely by a crippling fear of dying. This selfish motivation paradoxically drives him to become incredibly powerful The pacing ; traditional cultivation stories suffer from slow pacing and repeated tropes. This adaptation cuts out filler fluff. It moves briskly through tournament arcs, potion-making disasters, and undercover operations. The story excels at balancing extreme tonal shifts. It seamlessly transitions from hila…

Follows Bai Xiaochun who is afraid of death and desperately seeks immortality. I found the underlying, slowly forming narrative between the sects somewhat interesting, and animation quality is watchable. I recommend watching the first ~15 episodes to see the highs and lows. - - - Very comedy focused, but when things get serious the comedy factor is heavily reduced if not completely removed. The main character gets brutal and merciless at times, though a lot of the action is censored with the camera not showing all the gore, and a lot of non-lethal moves accounting for killing blows. The show has several reoccurring side characters, and there's a clear harem that's forming around Bai Xiaochun, though nothing too romantic actually happens. - - - A lot of the comedy focused episodes I fo…

I don't usually do this since I think anime is a deeply personal and subjective experience, but this show deserves some love. The art, voice-acting, story and comedy are all very high quality. Enough that this show could go toe-to-toe with ANY of the big Japanese acts(DanDaDan/Jujutsu Kaisen). In fact, I think the only reason anyone would rate this poorly, would be due to weird geopolitical bullsh*t - sentiments that, I sincerely believe, do not belong in a discussion of artistic merit. I honestly used to think that all Chinese anime sucked. Not gonna lie. Nothing I saw had any real "soul", or was hard to get into, and in my very subjective opinion the language just doesn't sound as pretty as Japanese does. UNTIL one day I randomly came across a cute little slice of life comedy called "G…

A Will Eternal Review. Some spoilers It appears I have stumbled upon a hidden gem in the Anime industry. This cultivation donghua is a feast to the eyes as long as you ignore the character development arcs up to the part when Bai Xiaochun fights for his life trying to get his companions to raise suspicion on branch family revolts. As the story progresses, we see that this chicken thief, Uncle Li Lover, Ninth Fatty becomes knowledgeable and more prominent within the Xiangji Sect (can't remember if this is what it's called) The cultivation of Bai Xiaochun at the Spirit Realm when he encounters the devil was probably the pivotal moment where the story started to get interesting. He slaughtered everyone bullying his sect mates under bloodthirsty Wu Ji legend from 800 years before. And to fr…

NO SPOILERS As a person who binge watched this anime within 4 days, Im telling that this anime is a must watch if you are looking for some good chinese animes.. STORY is decent..It progresses slowly and at a decent pace since the original source material is a novel.. ANIMATION is good at most of the times..and the scenerios looks pretty in this anime..Fight scenes, they did a decent animation which is comparable to most top japanese anime studios.. CHARACTERS are too many..it is hard to remember all these chinese names and details of the sect and its people(something like Clan in this anime)..Otherwise characters are fine..Some were there just for comedic purposes and some for plot and story..It is a good mix of characters SOUND and SONGS were lovely and good..It may seem repetitive..…

Awesome anime, cant wait for season 2 If you loved grandmaster of demonic cultivation or Tian gu cifu you will also love this Bai is a comedic character at times which lightens the mood, but he can be serious at times and his brilliance comes out. Though he appears to be a goof and incompetent always fleeing from difficult situations, when he is forced to fight - his genius comes out. I love the character development throughout the series, he starts out as fair weak and through hard work becomes OP AF. Overall enjoyed the serie's alot!! defs worth a watch 10/10

The series has quite a bit of drama, as expected from a Chinese show, but it's definitely much less than you would think. It's HILARIOUS. You will laugh throughout watching the whole series. I saw in a review something about romance, so on that note, I would like to say that the ''romance'' part is after epp 48/49 when Bai (main character) changes his appearance because he is now older. Up until few last episodes he has the same appearance. Love drama/romance is showed through elder Song Junwan (an elder of the middle peak of Blood Stream Sect). She falls for him and is annoyed that he is working in other peaks to refine pills. There is a couple of scenes with them, but it is not so dominant. Basically, until these last few epps you won't really see much of a romance, maybe here and there…
