As someone that has casually played fighting games for a long time (decades) this anime was something I wanted to watch just because the theme is in my wheel house. I was also wondering if it would exceed High Score Girl. Having finished it I can say that while it's good, it doesn't come close to reaching the heights of said show. This show is far less balanced in terms of plot and character development. Far too much time is spent during the EVO story arc in a fashion akin to tournament arcs from shonen shows. While this might sound appealing, what it boils down to is large chunks of the latter half of the show or so being spent watching somewhat incongruent gameplay clips from Street Fighter 6 while random people in the crowd watching opine on what's going on the screen. Thus a huge chu…

Summary: Best production committee ever, maximizing reality of fictional original comics. When you get familiar with Japanese animation, you'll notice the term "production committee" at the end of opening or ending. It consists of publisher who owns the original source comics or novel, animation studio who animates it, record label who makes OST, OP, and ED, TV or OTT who broadcasts the animation, and merchandise who makes goods based on the story or characters. There have been many examples that the committee ruins the original by interfering production to maximize their profit, such as forcing to cast unexperienced singers or voice actors, requesting increased appearance of certain character, or extending/cutting the volume to fit into broadcasting schedule, and so on. However, it coop…

i only watched this for the yuri story: 2/10 it basically follows the exact same premise of Rock Lady: an outsider commoner gal gets a chance to enter a super prestigious ojou-sama type school. she used to have this one hardcore, unladylike hobby but had to abandon it cause it's deemed way too unconventional for someone attending this kind of elite academy. eventually, she crosses paths with another girl at the school who shares the exact same hobby as she does. the funny part is the contrast between them: said girl is only doing it casually for fun, while our main girl is doing it out of pure, sweaty passion. seeing that casual approach instantly triggers the main character's suppressed tryhard energy, pulling her right back into the very thing she swore to give up. the premise itself i…

Good aspects Awesome art Mostly likeable female cast, and I also love series that feature successful female characters. It doesn't matter what they are successful at. Sometimes funny I liked that they didn't win in the game tournament; it was a realistic choice. Bad aspects You will get quickly bored if you aren't into video games. No depth. It isn't the most superficial series (characters do have a voice), but they aren't deep. Boring at times. It's an okay series to watch and pass time. It isn't a bad series per se, but I wouldn't watch this anime if it weren't Girls' Love. Keep in mind that I'm not into video games that much; that also probably affected it.

When I picked up an anime about fighting games, I was expecting an animated representation of a fictional game. What I did not expect was that half of the show's footage would just be recordings of real-world fighting games, though in retrospect maybe I should've. This story follows Aya, a girl who attends a girls' academy with the goal of becoming more ladylike. After a chance encounter with the most graceful girl at school, Mio, she realizes that both of them play fighting games, and together they get roped into increasing hijinx. After additionally recruiting Yuu and Tamaki to their illicit gaming sessions, they eventually attend the EVO Japan tournament, which occupies the majority of the season. Adapting real gameplay into a twenty-minute episode is a tall task, but I think Taiari d…

I came for the yuri, but stayed for the FGC. As a yuri anime, it doesn't go much further than yuri bait in these 12 episodes, there's a very clear yuri undertone, but it's just that, an undertone, for now. But it's actually interesting as an action or even as a drama anime in the later episodes. If you watch this as a shounen (originally seinen), you're in for a great time, no joke. I find it very misleading that the tags suggest a funny yuri anime. In reality, it's an action heavy drama about young ladies sorting out their relationships, feelings, struggles and traumas through fighting games, and damn it is beautiful. It fires you up like a battle shounen, and I mean that in the best way possible. It really is a weird mix if you go in blind, you're expecting and searching for yuri and th…

Best gaming anime i have ever seen. Like I gotta gush about this anime. Its so fucking good but im gonna say this rn. THIS IS NOT A YURI. I REPEAT, DO NOT WATCH THIS FOR ITS YURI YOU WILL BE DISSAPOINTED. But anyways, the ball this anime knows about competitive gaming and the kindve players you meet is crazy. Like they got every single person you would see within a competitive scene. They got the potential mindsets theyll have. They even got the politics in what some deem as good or bad within competitive play and what it means to be a competitive gamer. This anime in its entirety combines what it means to have community and what it means to compete. In every facet genuinely this anime is incredible because honestly its a 2 in one package, a Cute girls doing cute things, and an amazing sp…

Honestly, when I pick up a random seasonal anime I know nothing about, I usually don't have expectations, since you genuinely don't know what you're getting into. What happened with this show is the best-case scenario: it turned out to be genuinely excellent, and I found myself excited every week waiting for the next episode. The characters are great, but what really got me was the relationship and dynamic between Mio and Aya — the way they play off each other is one of the highlights of the whole show. The way SF6 is portrayed is also excellent: this isn't some made-up fighting game that looks kind of like Street Fighter, it's literal SF6 gameplay, played by people who clearly know what they're doing, with clear technical explanations of what's happening on screen. That level of authenti…

Young ladies indeed shouldn't play fighting games. Because they made me relate a bit more than expected but hey at the core of it we all share the same interests. Lets get the typical stuff out of the way first The opening an absolute banger will definitely be listening to this one for a while. The animation surprising good albeit there's no animated fight scenes but the, expressions and stuff, zero complains. And to that I'd like to give huge props to the team for licensing games and real life accessory brands rather than just making it up. Shows they actually want to make this with as much authenticity as possible. Which leads me to why is enjoyed this show more than expected. Depending on what games you've played and how competitive you are at them, after a while you eventually wan…

If you love fighting games - this is anime specifically made for you. If you love yuri - this is also anime made for you. Just to make a point how author takes care of this story - at some point a certain number of fans asked the author to remove "yuri" tag from the story and it was outright refused. Based author for based story. I was really worried for this anime as it was scheduled to be released in 2025 and was pushed to later half of this year, but I am glad to see that they really used that extra time to polish it into looking as good as it is now. Animation and music: great in all accords. Animation and solid and fluent and the fighting scenes are pure bliss. Fighting games fans will have a blast with it. Music is also good, no memorable tracks but when the music is heard it really…

I'M NEVER GOOD AT PLAYING VIDEO GAMES, BUT THIS ANIME MAKES ME WANT TO PLAY STREET FIGHTER 6 AND BUY AN ARCADE CONTROLLER. Tiny Devil and Bloody Macaron are funny nicknames for a video game player. I never knew playing a fighting game could get so intense, they even include tragic backstories for each character playing in the tournament. The commentary I will say has a huge impact on how dramatic and exciting each fight could be. The terminologies they use are very technical and accurate to the video game mechanics. And yes, this anime is sponsored by Street Fighter 6, so I bet their sales would skyrocket after this anime airs.

Well I certainly do love a coming of age story about lesbians at an elite all girls school being into things considered “not lady like” so they have to sneak and engage in them. Rock is a lady’s modesty last year, and now Taiari this year. Both are now near and dear to my heart and while Taiari never reached the heights Rock Lady did, nor was it ever as gay, it was still a really time with some nice themes of self acceptance, going outside of your comfort zone, you know, the usual soppy stuff that works on me. I loved this cast of girls and how they came together despite being from radically different backgrounds, united by their love of street fighter, I loved the way the game was incorporated into the anime and most importantly, I wanna download and play it now! The 12 episode long adver…

Well this one was a disappointment but to be honest I was expecting it the fighting game genre is just not something I care about at all and unfortunately it is a big part of this story especially in the second half. This show is a classic example of the B plot being so important it makes you question why the Yuri tag is even here like seriously there is barely any actual romance between the main couple and maybe a shadow of a side couple with their friends. I’ll give points for the impressive production quality and obvious passion the people making this series had and to be fair I really liked everything that just didn’t have anything to do with the fighting game stuff. The characters were deep, animation was crisp and I love the main couple’s character designs and dynamic it’s just a r…
