The writers clearly lack understanding of basic fundamentals of music and instead seem to treat musical collaboration like an idiotic sports competition to see who can play the loudest/fastest as if that were a metric of quality.
The Japanese voice actors mostly gave little effort to actually convey any of the emotional transgressiveness of punk at the heart of the show, an issue remedied somewhat by the English dubbers who tried their best to add a bit of that back despite working with some of the most tediously uninspired exposition dumping monologic dialogue lines possible. (For example they added a great little joke of turning the final episode's applause of "I want to follow them!" into "I want to F--- them!" with a completely dub original joke line read and censor-beep.)
But the cr…

Story: 7
Typical "girls find themselves through music" narrative, leaning toward the edgier side of the genre. Family conflict, strict expectations, using music as an escape, eventually finding your true self through rock, etc. It's executed well enough, but nothing particularly groundbreaking.
Character: 8
Otoha (drummer) is muh best girl. Every scene she's in is a blast, and she absolutely carries the band's energy. Lilisa the actual MC (guitarist) is cool, especially with her internal conflict. A bit naive, rough, charming.
Tina (keyboard) didnt click with me. "Prince charming" by day, secret girlfailure by... By everywhen after the reveal ngl, esp with music. Idk, im not moved by her. Shiraya (guitar turned bassist) is a fun rival, my nitpick is wtf was wrong with her bass solo, th…

If there was anyway to describe this anime, it is basically answering a question no one asked.
"What if playing rock was like having hardcore lesbian sex?"
It's so sweaty, full of innuendos, foul language, ridiculous visuals. It's such a unique take on the girl rock band anime, making it really stand out. It has uses of 3D for the performances, but it's done in a pretty good and stylized way with use of motion cap to more accurately portray what's actually being played. The studio has really made sure to exaggerate each major moment. It's so over the top, but it really shines because of it. And BAND-MAID really did an amazing job for the anime as well.
I can also recommend the dub, it keeps the intensity and suggestive language at a high level, making sure the absurdity doesn't fade in…

Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty is, much like its central characters, rough around the edges but filled with excitement and energy. The performances are easily the main dish for this meal, though I’m still a bit torn regarding my overall opinion of them. On the one hand, I am disappointed that all of the performance scenes use full-CG models that aren’t particularly blended well with the rest of the shot, especially when crazy hairstyles get involved. On the other hand, the cinematography is so amped up and volatile that it’s easy to get lost in the exhilaration most of the time. It also helps that the music kicks ass. Going for instrumentals only was a huge gamble, but it very much paid off in the end both thematically and sonically.
The monotonous noble existence our main character pines to mi…

This has some of the best character chemistry I've seen, and the music scenes are truly excellent, especially if you're a rock fan. The duality of rich girl and rocker is a nice touch too. Overall I really recommend giving the first 5 episodes a shot, or at least the first 3. This feels like a different kind of music anime than others I've seen, I hope it gets a second season.
Characters
The main stars are Otoha and Lilisa, who have an amazing dynamic. I won't go into details but I found it to be a really believable chemistry between two people who know they'll be friends for life in a very real way. It feels authentic, in fact all of the characters feel real to their situation and origins.
Music
I like rock, and I also like instrumental rock. These might be the best gig scenes outside o…

Lounder than words
I was genuinely amazed by how emotionally honest this anime was. It doesn't glamorize pain, but it also doesn't shy away from it. Instead, it embraces vulnerability as a form of strength. Watching these girls support each other, fail together, grow, and create something meaningful made me feel proud in a way I can't quite explain. It's the kind of show that reminds you how important it is to chase what makes your heart beat faster, even if the world doesn't understand it.
If you've ever felt like you didn't belong, if you've ever struggled to say how you feel, or if you've ever found solace in music-this anime is for you. It's not just about girls in a band. It's about the courage to make noise in a world that wants you to stay silent. And that, to me, is what makes it…

This story sounded like something right up my alley since it seemed to combine two elements that I like: elegant rich girls and rock'n roll. It sounded too good to be true. What a disappointment it is. I am not even going to use the names of the characters because at a certain point I just didn't care about them anymore and just wanted to know how the story would end.
The first few episodes set up the story of a girl who finds herself becoming rich due to her mother's marriage. She must repress herself as she vows to become the top student in a prestigious school for the elite. Unfortunately almost none of this has any relevance as the show goes on. You sporadically see them in class or studying, but it is a mere visual setup. The author probably drew some pompous girls holding rock instr…

I really love this anime—I’ve already watched it multiple times and I’m still looking forward to a season 2. Out of all the anime I’ve watched, this one truly stands out as one of the best for me. It feels like a whole new level of anime with its unique story, strong characters, and the emotions it brings. The balance of action, drama, and depth makes it unforgettable. Every rewatch feels fresh, and I always notice something new that makes me appreciate it even more. I honestly think this anime deserves more recognition, and I can’t wait to see how the story continues.

Yes, Rock Is a Lady's Modesty has some poor-looking 3D animation elements, BUT!
Rock band anime isn't as popular as it should be, but we get a series at least once a year. And in 2025, Rock Is a Lady's Modesty takes us to a school for upper-class girls, where the students are taught how to behave "in society," stripping them of their agency in the process. In these seemingly sterile conditions, a metal-rock band is formed. While it lacks a vocalist, it captivates the audience with its members' exceptional playing and charisma.
Although the band consists of four members, the 13-episode series devotes most of its attention to Lilisa and Otoha, the guitarist and drummer, who reveal their true natures while playing. And OMG, they play so well!
Using Band Maid and their songs as the soundtra…

this is the best music genre anime for me, i like how they playing the musical instrument intensely and with animation that is not too excessive and CGI thats also supports them when playing a musical instrument, fyi I like listening to rock music like my chemical romance, simple plan, muse , greenday, and others, What's unique about this anime is when they are looking for someone to play the keyboard, the person who play the keyboard Never even played it a bit and the bass guitar quite unique she's arroganz and she only admiring the drummer in the band overall I give a rating 9.8/10

before that i want to say, otoha is my wife,
straight away, in my opinion the anime is quite good, both in graphics, story and character depiction, maybe what is quite unfortunate is the absence of a vocalist in this band, which means there is no song sung, and only instrumental, even though I hope there is a vocalist in the band, so that way I might be able to listen to their song if the anime is over, that is if the song is good in my opinion, but oh well, even though there is no song sung, for me this anime is still good, because for me, the story is quite good, and also the graphics are very good, I really like the depiction of each character's eyes, for some reason I think it looks like the eyes of ai hoshino, ruby and aqua from oshi no ko, and also I hope a second season will be m…

The problem with Rock wa Lady is that it keeps telling me that what is happening is ''rock n' roll'', but I just don't feel it in the sound of this show. Despite all their ''rocking out'' as a viewer I did not feel rocked to my core per se....despite all their ''''''badass'''''' shouting and cursing.
The story and music are lacking more bite and impact which is why I found this show enjoyable and yet not particularly engaging either...
At some points I felt like I was relating more to the NPC audience members that were not enthralled by their instrumental performances.
I exactly wasn't chomping at the bit for the next episode every week.
I think the biggest things it has going against it is the cheesy melodrama that revolves around Lilisa's home and school life and especially the stuff…

This was a great watch! As someone who generally really dislikes 3D animation segments in a 2D animated series, Rock wa Lady got away with it spectacularly. Honest to each god, it heightened the experience by capitalizing on the STRENGTHs of 3D animation, instead of only using it as a cheaper substitute for the more difficult to traditionally animate power scenes.
The premise is repeatable and familiar—an outcast girl at home attending a school she doesn't truly fit in, plus an afterschool activity formed between the most attractive and oddly hair-colored classmates, who all happen to share the same passion. HOWEVER, this time it is done with a selected twist that isn't much more unfamiliar either... they have to keep it all to themselves as they explore their new expressive environment b…

Band shows for the win 🎸🥁🎤🎹
I will mention, when this show started airing I was on a kick for band shows at the time (example: Hibike, Girls Band Cry, etc.) so this show came at the perfect time for me. And it did not disappoint at all. I felt it was such a different view for band anime that it felt like a breath of fresh air.
Firstly, Characters! The strongpoint of this show to be honest. Cause to be frank, just seeing them interact was a treat. Each character had their own personality, and such a strong color that if put next to a completely neutral character would make them stand out too much, so having all these types of characters in one group really showcases them in a certain light.
They're just all very different from each other so it separates them easily from the audien…

This is FUN. This is a masterpiece. This is ART.
Honestly, Rock Is a Lady's Modesty is so good that you should watch it NOW. The best way I can describe it is that it's an immaculate anime with stunning art, a cast that feels realistic and mature, a great selection of music, and—most importantly—actual character growth throughout the season.
I couldn't find anything wrong with this anime. The pacing is great, the visuals are great, the characters are understandable and enjoyable, and it's super easy to binge.
I guess I should elaborate though... (but really, you should just go watch it instead of reading any more of this review).
1. Characters
You ever watch an anime, TV show, or cartoon and think, "I would’ve snapped and said something absolutely horrible if I were in that situation"?…

Rock is a Lady's Modesty is a powerful story that plays with a surprising number of topics, some with a light hand, some with a heavier hand, for an extremely pleasant mix.
The most obvious ingredient is the foundation of a rock band. It tackles some of the usual issues that go with it, like the dilemma of how to strike a balance between hiring nice people and hiring skilled people, the quest for your first gigs, and so on. But it delves a bit deeper and tackles more intricate questions, like choosing to be an instrumental rock band and dealing with the consequences, the way each instrument finds its place in the team effort…
The second important ingredient is how those girls are subjected to heavy pressure from their (mostly rich and conservative) families, their (private) school and th…

This show is one more of 'girl rock band' shows we have seen in recent years like 'Bocchi the rock'. But unlike Bocchi or K-ON for that matter I would say this one is more mature which makes it unique and rather good.
Animation and sound: excellent in both fields. Animation is fluid throughout the entire show and when they are playing songs and preforming concerts you can notice cgi but it very well done. They really went all out on performance scenes, watching each of them was so enjoyable I would rewind episode just to enjoy the music and performance again. The music is outstanding, the OP and ED are both enjoyable and catchy and despite the band being instrumental in nature all the songs they have preformed were great.
Overall animation and music - great. Which is very important in m…

I love when you know from the first episode what your anime of the season is. The first 20 minutes of Rock is a lady’s modesty were all I needed to see to know there was nothing that would touch this show this season and 3 months later, I can confidently say that’s still the case. I have been the biggest fan of this series for the last 12 weeks, pushing the agenda everywhere I can. It’s one of the 3-4 hyper fixations that I get every year and just can’t shut-up about. This was incredible. I’m such a big fan of series where characters come out of their shells and embrace who they really are as people, and Rock Lady does it in such a cool way, using rock music as a tool of expression for emotionally(and sexually)repressed girls at a school for rich kids. I had so much fun seeing the girls co…

Rock Is a Lady's Modesty — What's the cost of living a life of the fictional rich and noble when all things rock 'n roll are much more frictional to develop a hidden interest so bold and verbose that it tells a better life story above all?
High society (or sometimes simply referred to as society). What comes to mind when you hear of these two words that defined a group of upper-class citizens whose world is miles apart from that of the average common folk? If you're thinking of wealth, power, fame, social status, or anything of that sort, you've pretty much got the thinking on point. Reserved only for the "specially" born and bred, it's a life that no doubt anyone wants to experience, but in the world of mangaka Hiroshi Fukuda's Rock wa Lady no Tashinami deshite a.k.a Rock Is a Lady's Mod…

I'll try to cut to the chase and give you my insight on the entire anime in general.
Like most musical anime, this anime slaps with its incredible music. Maybe it's because I'm more fond of the rock genre than any other genre, but the electric guitar and drum play is a real treat. Combined with decent 3D animation to enhance their impact, it makes the music sections really fun to watch when they arrive. Most of its scenes that show the main cast playing and trying to overcome their shortcomings are cool to watch, all together, the music scenes are long but never feel like they overstayed their welcome, and it's able to deliver the climax really well with all the emotions swelling into one last epic guitar SOLO! Another applause to give is how well done the voice acting for the main cast,…
