This is one of the more mature romance animes i've seen. Mature, in the sense that it doesn't drag out unnecessary misunderstandings to an entire arc, nor does it consider Romance as the only thing the plot has to offer.
And although the first episode seems like a setup for an off-brand/gag-type manga, I was actually appalled (in a good way) at the lack of fan service this anime has to offer. Most romance anime rely heavily on perverted stuff, and it's sometimes hard to tell them apart from ecchi. But this one here's good.
One thing I didn't really find... well, it's not bad, but it's more like wasted potential.
The female MC's "alien" attributes sometimes feel unnecessary. Like, even if she were not an alien princess, perhaps the author could've told the same story. Often, I forgot that s…

A Galaxy Next Door has a great concept and a very cute romantic atmosphere, but the execution is weak. The romance is wholesome and calm, but the pacing is extremely slow, to the point where it often feels boring rather than relaxing.
The main issue is the story writing. Despite an interesting setup, the anime doesn’t develop its ideas well, and many episodes feel stretched with little progression. I genuinely felt sleepy while watching at times.
The animation also looks better at first glance than it actually is. There are noticeable moments where background characters are completely static, like still images, which breaks immersion and makes the production feel cheap.
Shiori is adorable and easily the highlight of the anime, but a cute character alone isn’t enough to carry weak pacing…

This anime is hard-carried by the heroine. She's cute, considerate, and a fair bit more forward than the majority of female love interests that you see in anime and manga. She's about the only strong point of this anime, and the only reason I gave it anything higher than a 4.
The protagonist is generic and spineless; it seems that when they designed an original heroine, they didn't think to carry some of that creativity over to the male lead. The romantic development they go through together is rather slow, thanks largely to the protagonist's inability to have even the smallest bit of confidence in most situations. I sure love watching episode after episode where the girl does something bold and cute but the guy can't get enough of a grip to reciprocate properly.
Most of the rest of the…

I've been trying to watch this fucking anime since 2023. But whenever I try to, I make it to 3 episodes and give up. This time, in 2025, I tried to make it longer so I could finally post a review.
Dear lord this anime is shit.
It always amazes me when I try the overhyped, 7/10 animes on this site, and they make me wanna bash my head against the nearest wall. At-least the bashing would provide some sort of excitement, leading to a character change in me.. in the hospital.
Anyway, coming back to this pile of shit. It's the most generic (my favorite word) romcom anime in existence with same fucking plot you've seen done in thousand other anime, even with children (I know, shocking) thrown in as the lead. MC being a manga artist trying to meet deadlines while taking care of his young siblin…

Hello everyone! As always, I’ll keep this review brief and to the point.
I had overlooked this anime for quite some time, as the first episode initially struck me as bland and unremarkable. However, revisiting it after all this time and finally seeing it through was an unexpectedly rewarding experience. While the story might begin in a way that feels cliché, rushed, or even too convenient—especially with the relationship forming quickly without much of the usual chase—it actually works in the anime’s favor.
Rather than treating their connection as a given, the characters use that starting point to thoughtfully build their relationship from the ground up. It may feel like the romance is “served on a silver platter,” but the real charm lies in how the characters don’t take it for gra…

Don't mix up my personal rating with the recommendation. I put mixed feeling even though I personally enjoyed the series.
Good mature romances are a bit rarer compared to the high school aged ones so it's nice to see one pop up that is also not half bad.
The premise is interesting where the romance also has to balance the MC being a parental guardian. Overall the story is well written and the concept is fun watching a couple learn to love. The romance actually starts pretty early.
Drama wise, at least what the first season covers is pretty minimal and is cleared up fast compared to the younger geared toward anime which is absolutely wonderful. It takes a toll watching shows where they drag out the drama that could have been solved if they talked for 5 minutes.
Animation wise it really…

This was a really great experience this anime relates to people who's are a bit older and have to take care of their younger siblings I feel
like this anime Bring's amazing example on what to do when your siblings are too clingy. Overall, this anime was fantastic it really got me

This anime is just wholesome all around. I really like the anime’s that show the lives of mangakas because I know all the animators had a fun time putting in extra details. Also the romance in this is top tier. There wasn’t any fan service it was a simple sweat diabetic filled wholesomeness. I like the spin on the story with having the heroin not be some normal girl it was different but made for a good story. The progression of their romance was amazing never felt like it was dragging along or going to fast. If you are looking for a wholesome feel good anime give it a shot. Honestly a hidden gem that I don't hear people talk about at all. 8/10

It was a pretty 5/10 show. Nothing major happened but the girl and the guy is cute. It's a very trashy show with nothing mind blowing. The animation style is pretty nice though I guess... The story wasn't unique, no. It was pretty predictable. Art style nice. Characters were sub par... It was realistic, I guess. But I don't think its for everyone
Is the story unique? If it was predictable, did you enjoy it anyway because you like this genre/set-up?
Answer: No
Do you think the art style is fitting for the story?
I guess so yeah it's pretty.
Were the characters well-rounded? Did they have flaws and strengths, or were they unusually strong/smart/stupid?
They were alright

this show was cute and anyone who says otherwise can catch these hands. Like, it was the perfect show to do other things while it played in the background and you still understood the plot. No, it does not have the in depth plot like AoT or something like that, BUT IT DOENST NEED TO. This was the show that I watched while doing my hair to get ready for university, and I would genuinely only get up to do my hair knowing that I would be able to watch this show. Its cute and the relationships that they show are real and raw. LET THEM LIVE!

okay, i don’t have the amount of experience a lot of people on here have with romance anime and a lot of ppl might disagree but i LOVED this so much. i have been craving a love story where the actual couple gets it’s chance to shine and this honestly became a new favorite. maybe the feelings of watching it are still fresh, but i loved the characters, ppl have said they have no depth or the romance isn’t believable but i disagree wholeheartedly. i don’t know if this anime will continue, but i think the pacing of trust building and relationship progression was perfect, and it wasn’t too pervy in any way. i loved the inclusion of ichirou’s family in the story; a good cast of characters helps amplify the magic imo. they don’t delve much into the history of shiori is a critique i see but it’s a…

Animation is pretty decent. No flashy animations, but motions are fluid. Really good backgrounds and character detail. Characters have some depth, but not a ton. The characters are fairly likeable, but personally I hate Fumio. He literally just repeats the last few word of every scentence his sisters say for basically the entire anime. I've seen dogs that were written with more depth. The story is fairly unique, but then the plot doesn't really dig very deep into it. Pacing is fairly slow, but not unbearable. Voice acting is fine. Decent casting, but unimpressive performances. Soundtrack is fantastic, the ed/op are just okay. Honestly I found it to be a bit dull. However, it's pretty cute at times and an enjoyable watch for most people who like rom com/slice of life anime. That is as long…

First of all, let me get the most important part out of this: Machi is best girl. She's better than anybody else on that show. She's like 10 or 11 acts much older than that and more mature than Kuga. Thank God Fumio has her. I don't know what's going on with him, but they may want to get it addressed. He was especially neglected in the show. Getting 3 to 4 words to repeat after Machi says something just really pretty sad. I know this is an anime that has 12 episodes, but as a parent, that screams out trouble to me. Just a me thing.
This is such a terribly watered down romcom. Kuga is your typical idiot MC. He's a painful thing to watch. He has absolutely no guts and no courage (and even as far as the last episode) he was too nervous or too afraid to still do normal couple things like hold…

A Galaxy Next Door is best described as average. The premise comes off as uniquely unoriginal, with the method for the two main characters being tied together putting forth the only amount of individuality this show has. Every other aspect of the show ends up becoming a trope galore. The show struggles to ever have a definitive identity, constantly teetering on the line of breaking out onto it's own but never committing.
One of my largest gripes is how the show is almost too happy. It's so cornily happy without any irony it can begin to be overwhelming at times. The first few instances come off a sweet and nice, but after watching further it begins to weigh down on the enjoyment of the show.
The main character is one of the most boring imaginable. He's the typical "nice guy" character i…

Otonari ni Ginga is a fluffy romance anime with a distinct lack of substance. This statement alone sums up my thoughts pretty well already, but I would like to go into further detail about what we have at hand here.
I think it becomes pretty clear after a few episodes that the entire setting of the anime is just a pretense to show some shallow bits of story. Ichiro Kuga works full time as a manga artist, struggling to provide for himself and his 2 siblings while also being estranged with his mother and having lost his father a while prior to the start of the story. I'm gonna be honest here: This setting is not even that bad - you could make a great drama out of this. On the other hand we have Shiori Gosshiki, a princess of some faraway island who lacks basic life skills but is otherwise g…

"Otonari ni Ginga" is a supernatural romantic comedy, it tells the story of "Shiori Goshiki", an island princess who, after leaving the island and discovering a new world, starts working and living with "Ichirou Kuga", a mangaka. During a night of work, Kuga-san ends up sticking himself with Goshiki-san's stinger, forming a pact that obliges him to make her happy, and also, not to distance himself from her. Time passes and the loving feelings become greater, and both want to break the pact, with the intention of loving each other without chains. Otonari ni Ginga also contains drama and emotion with the addition of some characters to the plot, such as Kuga's brothers: "Machi" and "Fumio".
The story is pretty fantastic, especially when it comes to the mysteries and beliefs of Goshiki-san's…

Otonari ni Ginga is a new anime that follows the story of Kuga Ichirou, a struggling manga artist, and Goshiki Shiori, a mysterious girl claiming to be a princess of the people of the stars. As they collaborate on Ichirou's manga, their relationship evolves into something more.
Personally, I have mixed feelings about Otonari ni Ginga. The likable characters, such as relatable protagonist Ichirou and charming Shiori, with an engaging story, bring humor and heart to the series.
However, there are some drawbacks. The anime's pacing is slow, and it can be predictable. Additionally, the supernatural elements may feel overly fantastical for some viewers.
Overall, Otonari ni Ginga is a decent show but not a standout. Fans of slice-of-life and romantic comedies may enjoy it, although its slow paci…

This anime would've been a normal slice-of-life romance between two adults. However, some supernatural element was added into the mix. Shiori is a shooting star princess while Ichiro is a normal human who works as a mangaka and an apartment landlord. Due to some "accident", they get forcefully engaged. This kind of scenario feels like a wish-fulfilment to instantly get the perfect wife/husband for someone. Some might like it, some might not.
After that, the story turns into a normal slice-of-life romance. There were some supernatural stuff here and there, but most of the story just revolves around them and his family doing daily stuff. There are tenants on Ichiro's apartment but I barely saw any of them. That makes it quite weird for me, as some anime I watched involving house-like apartm…

Man, there is nothing better than a good adult romance. This season there’s a ton of romcom shows, but Otonari ni Ginga is really the only one featuring working age people, making it a much more relatable and enjoyable experience.
Don’t get me wrong, I do love my high school romances. They’re cute, but as I get older it’s easier to relate to people who are around my age and going thru things that I am going thru. While I may not be a mangaka, I am at a bit of a crossroads in life and stressed just like Ichiro, the protagonist of this series.
He and Shiori’s relationship starts out in a somewhat cliche manner with the old “I touched you now I have to marry you” trope. What makes this one so enjoyable for me is the well written relationship between the two of them. While the relationship…

Forced marriages? What is that? Can it be something good or something bad? I don't know...but the one consensus that needs to go in the modern day, is the idea of having marriages predetermined at whatever age, nook and cranny, because it's just not right and disrupts the growing-up process of people.
Such is the case with mangaka Gido Amagakure's 2nd anime adaptation in the form of Otonari ni Ginga a.k.a A Galaxy Next Door, with the prior preceding work being Amaama to Inazuma a.k.a Sweetness and Lightning, that tugged at the heartstrings with its anime adaptation 7 years ago in Summer 2016, coming off of his best-selling and well-recognised manga that was burning hotcakes at the time of its release in 2013. But will Otonari ni Ginga be any better than Amaama to Inazuma? There's only on…
