I came across this film randomly, had never heard of it, just happened upon it actually looking for an anime I had watched previously. I decided to give it a shot since it was only an hour and I liked the synopsis.
I did not expect to get so invested, and so emotional. This film really does know how to express emotions organically, it didn't feel forced like in some animated films. I wasn't coerced into feeling some kind of way, it happened naturally with the dialogue and body language they chose for the characters. It was expressive and realistic, it didn't feel over the top in any sense. In fact I'd say that was the strongest part of this movie was its sense of realism, especially in a queer relationship. Relationships in general are complex, but I think with queer relationships, becau…

Short conclusion: the story is incomplete. It just ends, without proper closure. The story had the potential to end up being great, but the writers clearly did not.
Who is this for?
You want to see a well animated, slice of life yuri with non-exagerrated characters and do not care for the story at all.
You do care for the story and want it to make you feel sad, dissatisfied or even empty.
You want to see weak and coward characters so you can say "at least I am better thant that".
You are a weak coward in your intimate relationships and want to see yourself in an anime so you can say "it's OK, others are like me as well".
Who should avoid this?
You want a GL story that is fun and complete.
You want a GL story that is inspiring and complete.
You want to see (yuri) characters getting over…

Watched twice now, and I have come away feeling even warmer the second time around.
This movie, as the other reviews have said, is the most realistic romance I've ever seen animated. It's melodramatic and poetic in narration, but only in the ways that people actually are. Scenes are almost underacted (this grew on me). The characters are messy the way we all are in our late teens/early twenties. It's tight, and doesn't drag, at only 60 minutes. There is a stunning lack of tropes. This reads like someone's actual memoir.
Another reviewer complains that the motivations of the characters were unclear, but I find it impossible to see it that way. Anyone who's experienced a serious relationship as an adult can see the exact ways in which our neurotic behaviors can compound under quiet duress…

This film is peak yuri. It might just be the most "realistic" yuri out there right now. We need better subtitles though.
"Geu Yeoreum" transcends the confines of its genre, offering a universal tale of love and self-discovery. While it beautifully navigates the complexities of a yuri relationship, it also touches on themes of identity, acceptance, and the transformative power of genuine connection.
The pacing of the film is well-balanced, allowing moments of quiet reflection to breathe and build the emotional landscape. Each scene serves a purpose, contributing to the overall narrative without unnecessary detours. It felt very realistic and authentic.
Its exquisite cinematography, stellar performances, and emotionally resonant storytelling combine to create a film that leaves a lasti…
