Mid but does have more going for it than other generic shonen, MC is cool and a somewhat well written character and his relationships with the supporting cast are fun to watch. However majority of the other classmates and 'friends' of Ichinose are superrrr underdeveloped especially the girl with the pink hair feeling particularly one-note. The designs of the female characters are genuinely inexcusable and made me roll my eyes whenever there was a scene with a woman in it, the anime is 24 episodes long and this kind of nuisance becomes very very unbearable when its every single named female character.
blood guns are sick tho

Quick Review No Spoilers
Overall: A low 8/10
I will admit this is a generic shounen style anime, with fights going on insanely long in an episode, if that's your thing. But one of the best things about this anime is the adult humour is actually top tier. It's actually refreshing for once hearing jokes about goonin etc rather than just pure fan service.
The story is captivating, albeit not the most interesting & reminds me of black clover to an extent, especially the main protagonist. The visual effects and music are really good, so nothing to complain about there either. The main issue would be the pacing personally, some parts drag on for a bit too long, whilst other parts aren't really focused enough at all.
Not sure why this has such a low score personally, it has an interesting plo…

At first I was going to rate this way lower, but it came around and won my heart for a better rating.
As you can see with my list, I'm very generous in rating, so you might ask why I've been so harsh towards Tougen?... Simple, I just hate CGI in my 2D Anime.
The story is your average Shounen shenanigans, there is this race of superhumans dubbed Oni, with blood bending abilities, and the other Momotaro, bacteria benders, so fictional racism over the race that's perceived as more violent.
The power concepts are pretty unique, and the structure of the story is fine.
One good point for most people is that there is only one, or two filler episodes at most, even though I don't mind fillers and feel like the extra chill time gets me all mushy about characters later on, the same way I watch Slice…

I wasn't going to write this review, but seeing so many salty takes floating around 🌊 and thinking that someone out there might first read those “non-recommended” reviews and then never watch the anime, dismissing Tougen Anki as a soulless dumpster fire, I had to write this for that reason. The bad ratings basically signify the “inspiration gone wrong” trend, LOL🤭. For no real reason, this anime is the fu#king nightmare 😱 someone would imagine if they only read those splendidly written “non-recommended” reviews 🙃.
Trust me 🤞, I significantly enjoyed this series the entire time I watched it my a$ was glued to my seat🪑and my eyes were glued to the screen 👀. The whole story is made up of wild, somewhat familiar shonen elements, and that’s also part of the fun 😄. The anime isn’t a co…

Tougen Anki has many issues. One of them were the abhorrent female characters. Physically, their bodies look exactly the same shape and they're very sexualized (they're still teens) Mentally, well, there's no one home. Very disappointed about that.
The story is predictable, most of the characters are cliched, and there are multiple times during the fight scenes when the characters would suddenly look like cheap CGI.
Still, I will probably watch any upcoming seasons because I liked the action and found the anime interesting enough to want to see how things will turn out. If you watch without many expectations you might enjoy yourself.

Mixed feelings is an extremely accurate way to refer to how I feel about this anime.
TLDR: The story doesn't do anything new. A lot of weak/flat characters, but there are strong characters that carry the cast, especially the MC. The first half of the show is weak (4/10), the second half is much better (6.5/10). The 2D art is beautiful, and while the "fan service" is extremely odd and atypical, it doesn't take up that much time. Worth watching if you have nothing else to watch and have the patience for an anime that isn't perfect.
The Characters:
1. The main character is extremely charming. He's stereotypical in a lot of aspects, but he does it will. Charmingly hot-headed and dumb, while being good to the core and smart in his own way. He carried the show for me.
2. The main supporting…

I think there are loads of cliché themes, however I think the character and worldbuilding is very good. I think a lot of the other reviews point out it’s very action based which it is and they are disappointed with the character growth. I think they are wrong. I think the characters are developing very nicely. It’s clear their stories were thought out well before being designed. Just because this is a battle anime doesn’t mean it’s fast paced. In fact I like that it’s slower in this way. The character motivations are well thought out and of the characters we got to know in this season, the way they are makes sense. Their emotional maturity makes sense. The adults act like adults and the kids act as kids. They all went through highly traumatic experiences and clearly are all responding diff…

Tougen Anki presents a premise that immediately catches attention. It is a modern reinterpretation of the ancient Japanese folklore surrounding Momotaro and the oni. In traditional legend, Momotaro is the heroic demon slayer, while the oni represent destructive forces that must be defeated. This series flips that familiar narrative into a darker conflict between descendants of the Momotaro lineage and individuals who carry oni blood. At the center of the story is Shiki Ichinose, a rebellious teenager who suddenly learns that his life has been built on a hidden truth, he belongs to the persecuted oni lineage. When agents connected to the Momotaro faction attack and his adoptive father is killed, Shiki is forced into a secret world where both sides have been locked in a long and violent stru…

✓ Acting (Voice Acting): Solid performances that brought intensity and emotion to the characters, especially during emotional and high-action scenes.
✓ Storyline: From the very first episode, Tougen Anki immediately grabbed my attention. The intense and bloody opening set the tone for the series, and the fight scenes were visually impressive. The animation and action felt powerful, making every battle impactful rather than just chaotic violence.
The characters are another strong point. While the pacing can feel a bit slow at times and there are a few frustrating personalities along the way, the cast remains engaging. My personal favorites are Mudano, Dr. Oiranzaka, and Yodogawa — they’re cool, powerful, and have a strong presence whenever they appear.
What I liked most is that the serie…

From what I've seen in the reviews and ratings, I was really expecting the anime to be bad… but in the end I quite liked it! I agree that the fan service is still really strange, however many popular anime have a lot of fanservice without the anime itself being bad. Aside from the fan service the plot is rather banal but it’s still can work and I wasn't particularly looking for something original so it didn't bother me. Perhaps if Tougen Anki had only 12 episodes and only covered the first arc, my rating would have been lower however I really loved the second act, which was much more intriguing and interesting to follow. The second antagonist is far better than the first and the characters became much more interesting during this part. If you're looking for an anime to watch to pass the ti…

This anime is so bad it motivated me to write a review. I have no idea how this anime got so popular but maybe because of the rise of AI generated content it made people feel like this was the best show at the time. Honest to god? It’s hot buns. If this was made during ww2 it probably would’ve been used as propaganda for the Germans. People watch a carbon copy of blue exorcist and fire force then get a hard boner and start defending it with their life.
Tldr: DO NOT WATCH THIS SHOW. WALLAHI YOU WILL WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!

Touken Anki has an interesting premise revolving around the conflict between Oni and Momotaro, but the longer I watched, the more confused I felt about where the story was actually trying to go. The narrative is told from the Oni’s point of view, so they are framed as victims who just want to live peacefully, yet at the same time the story clearly shows that Oni have the potential to lose control and massacre humans, which makes the Momotaro’s actions feel understandable. On top of that, learning about the Momotaro’s past—losing their loved ones because of Oni—makes it hard for me to fully sympathize with the Oni side. To balance this moral gray area, some Momotaro characters are portrayed as outright villains, but for me this doesn’t really deepen the conflict, since humans were never pur…

It's a decent series. Pretty good, but I just get the feeling that it seems predictable at times.
The story follows Shiki Ichinose, a boy who discovers he’s an Oni and that a secret war has been going on behind the scenes between the Oni and another bloodline known as the Momotaro. Both sides have special powers: Oni manipulate their blood as weapons or abilities, while the Momotaro do the same thing using bacteria. The Momotaro believe Oni aren’t human and must be exterminated, fearing their potential to go berserk and kill indiscriminately. Meanwhile, most Oni simply want to live peacefully among humans. Shiki ends up siding with the Oni, learning to control his powers and working with them in hopes of achieving that peace.
As I mentioned earlier, the series feels very predictable, esp…

It's okay, pretty much the whole main cast is introduced fairly quickly and then nothing really happens after that and the season kinda ends with "Now we just gotta get stronger" which I was hoping would happen a little bit during this first season but not really. I first heard of this because of the backlash from tiktok it was getting from anime culture tourists for it's "fanservice" and lets be really there's only a handful of cleavage shots in the first season that wasn't really worth having one hand down my pants. Kuina Sazanami is waifu. This season feels like listening to someone who talks a lot but nothing is really being said kinda like this review. Watching this and Pluribius feels almost like the same show lmao.
Overall, it's an okay anime to watch in the background. If season…

One of the most generic anime of recent times.
Let’s be real — this anime has nothing original. The story is simple: that basic war between two races, where the one labeled as evil is actually the kinder one, and the one considered good is the more malicious one. All of this with some characters that are kind of okay. And why the hell do all the women in this anime have to be busty?
Maybe I’ll watch the rest if I have nothing else to do. I hope they develop the characters better — the only one I actually liked was Mudano.

Tougen Anki is a shonen anime that, if you're familiar with the genre, won't surprise you with what it offers. You get the classic goofy, overpowered main character with strong morals and conveniently unlocked superpowers. There's the cool, Levi-like teacher who’s clearly stronger than he lets on and secretly kind-hearted. The supporting cast includes the usual suspects: the cold guy, the shy girl, the pervert, and a few others.
This anime leaves me with mixed feelings. As the story progresses, much of it feels unoriginal. At times, it’s like watching Naruto; other times, it resembles Ao no Exorcist. When the shy girl uses her powers, the scene feels straight out of Attack on Titan. The perverted humor reminds me of Grand Blue. Even the voice actors for the main character and the teacher…

Right from the start I didn't vibe with the anime. This anime is about battle between the Oni and Momotarou, which had been going for a thousand years.
The story is mainly about Shiki (an Oni) and his battles. But we also get to see the side characters fight. I just didn't like either of the parties, not the Oni , nor the Momotarou. While the action is competent, a lot better animation then One Punch Man S3, I just wasn't into the power system. Oni used their own blood to manifest their powers and Momotarou used black stuff, I think it was bacteria to manifest their powers. They are both gross.
While it did get interesting sometimes, I am not impressed by the overall action or dialogues or the story. I don't recommend this show. But I guess it will appeal to some action fans.

I was about to rate this low but last few eps changed my mind and hopefully i understood the overall pattern of anime which author tried to describe or show . This is your classical trope anime which can be made into a 150-200 eps easily , that's why it's slow paced , too many build up moments , villains backstory etc that's why i think many people not gonna like this in age of fast paced shonen movies and shows .
I liked the point of no senseless killing . Each and very kill has a motive or reason . I liked overall power system too and some of power moves were original and unique , haven't seen in another anime . The characters could stand to be a little more interesting too, but that's not really the shows top priority. Maybe we are gonna see more development in…

The show is pretty but it's entirely teen/young adult male fantasy. It's not bad, it knows exactly what it is, but there is little substance outside of "this is a cool idea, how do we get there?" There are weird choices like breasts big enough to make Tite Kubo tell you to tone it down, or characters drawn with large feet and calves as if they are shot from a low angle but being seen from head on.
The story runs quick to get to the next fight, often sloppily (The school training to in the field is so fast even in universe it's way too short). The characters that are supposed to be rational and level headed are easily swayed by a single guy saying "Yeah but he's a bad guy." The main character and his group are almost unequivocally painted as the good guys doing things like saving children…

Tougen Anki - Classic cliche shonen tropes, but just done so poorly that it makes you think that the average Isekai equivalent is better than this.
Freedoms of expression. That's what most authors want to achieve with their works, and for a good reason: to stand out in the most positive of ways, and especially in a very cutthroat environment such as the AniManga industry, it's all the more important to have some kind of quality, even if it starts off bad, to constantly build over time to be something great. That's why you hear the term "Rome wasn't built in a day," which can signify the rare few who deserve that claim, like mangaka Yuki Tabata's Black Clover.
However, not everyone can get it right on the first try, and it's even worse if they stick to the idea and base it on work that th…
