Secrets of the Silent Witch

Secrets of the Silent Witch

Introduction

In the Kingdom of Ridill lives a genius magician known to be the first person to ever use chantless magic. With this amazing skill, Monica Everett joins the Seven Sages as a hero who can defeat powerful dragons, such as the legendary black dragon, all on her own. However, the truth is that the Silent Witch developed chantless magic due to being too shy—preferring to live on a mountain top, far from society. Her secluded lifestyle changes, though, when a fellow sage tasks her to covertly defend the second prince, Felix Arc Ridill, from attempts on his life. Unfortunately, that means she will have to go undercover as a student at Serendia Academy. Between guard duty and her social anxiety, Monica is facing her most difficult mission to date. Main plot point behind the story is very intriguing and new. Loved the fantasy background. Animation Quality was Good. Magic was different from what you see in a everyday fantasy. Spells and animation that put in to magic was gorgeous. Loved the overall soundtrack and a beautiful intro as well. Character design were good. Main characters personality. This is where things starts to go downhill. I will be discreet not to spoil anything. Monica. She's a introvert. Has social anxiety. They try to convey us that these are the main reason behind her personality. And they vaguely give a idea of her upbringing as well. And through the anime you will see she's not confident either. Little bit of self doubt too. Everything combined should give her this personality. But in reality her actions are su…

From what I've heard from some people and the high score on MAL, I was expecting a really good anime, but eeeh... the characters have zero development and aren't engaging at all: none of them grew on me. The beginning could have been interesting since it was supposed to be about a strong yet shy witch protecting a prince, but the story went off in all directions without any real progress. We could have stopped halfway through and we wouldn't have missed anything. Monica could have been an interesting character for me, but I don't feel like she had that much of an impactful development throughout the anime. I expected her to be more assertive, but aside from being shy and cute sometimes, there is nothing special about her who make her an attaching character. It's a shame we didn't see her a…

7.5/10 Silent Witch is a huge disappointment. On paper, it’s got likeable characters, a fun setting, and some interesting mysteries sprinkled throughout. Studio Gokumi pulls out all the stops to provide beautiful animation, a soft, feel-good score, and solid frame work. One can’t help but root for our clumsy but conscientious Monica as she tries to work through the challenges of navigating relationships. Her unyielding will, intelligence, and determination to succeed are traits most female MCs lack in fantasy epics. As viewers, we all can relate to feeling misunderstood at some point in our lives for our perceived appearance and abilities. We’re easily bought in to Monica’s struggles are excited for the ride to come. Unfortunately the rushed world building, lack of central antagonist, a…

This has become one of my favorite shows of Summer 2025. The first thought I had was, this show must have been inspired by Jobless Reincarnation or had the same writers. Just as before I like the concept. I like the animation and art... it suits the genre. The main character is very shy but sometimes forgets her shyness when she is thinking aloud, math or strategy. I like her true strength comes form her sharp brain and high intelligence. Which is why she can conjure up spells faster that most others. She feels like a real character, someone dealing with anxiety but whose personality is growing. This anime is for you if you want fantasy, magic, character growth overcoming anxiety & nice visuals, in you anime. This could be better in my opinion if it dwelled into politics of the Kingdom m…

Overpower coward main character who is awkward n shy suddenly made it to top 7 strongest mage. Story continue to down slide from 2nd episode with one off episode of dealing with difficult task or bad guys. It introduce unnecessary stuff like playing chess, dancing and a lot more nonsense to deal with her "growth" of awkwardness. If this kind of awkward people in the real world, it would be step on and not be top 7 powerful people. What's the purpose of this bad writing trying to teach people? You will never be an underdog being this shy in the real world. What a bad show and a waste of time. Dont even get me start with so many guys perusing her, stop these harem show please. Go out and touch some grass for giving a rating of 8

A Slice of Life Anime with a Fantasy theme. I’m mostly hating on this anime largely because it is significantly overrated. Characters:- Cliche Otome Game- no real depth. Seriously under utilised. We learn nothing much about the characters motivations. . 3/10 Story:- Started decent with a strong premise but nothing happens in the show. There are no consequences. There is literally 0 plot. People keep saying it’s a wonderful story. Premise is strong, a legendary witch suffering trauma goes undercover to protect a prince from assassinations. We learn close to nothing about her tragic past. Her father’s history was unexplored. There’s no important decisions that that character has to make, no consequences. 1/10 Animation:- Very expressive and cute character expressions. It’s the only red…

BOCCHI THE WITCH! What if you took Bocchi, made her OP like Frieren, made her even more moe/adorable, but still capable of casting magical artillery? Monica Everett, the adorable protagonist is thrust into an undercover mission of attending another magic highschool while secretly acting as a bodyguard for the second prince of the kingdom, but oh noez, her social anxiety is even WORSE than Bocchi; hilarity ensues. The anime does a fantastic job at balancing the light hearted humor, the cuteness, and the seriousness of conflicts that actually arises. You've got a blend of villainess isekai anime, a bit of 'Apothecary Diaries', and a bunch of 'Bocchi the Rock', and maybe Kaos from 'Comic Girls' anxiety all mixed together in a fun manner. My only criticisms would be Monica being TOO meek at…

this is one of the most beautiful anime ever....the story is heartwarming and this is what u call 'animation done right!'.. the story was pretty unique with some real character background stories and also the female characters other than fmc were unique and had their own pesonas ,not like the usual timid and weak ones always asking for help or attention seekers, which was one of the best parts of this anime . it had well written villains carrying some actual purpose rather than just the typical "bad guys doing bad stuff" and pretty unpredictable plots too... if u r looking for something slow and relaxing with good story and the very amazing animation ,then this is the best for ya { p.s. it has some funny parts too >~< }

I have never witnessed a series that more perfectly encapsulated the term "disappointing" than this one. Time and time again it reached the cusp of being good, or even great, and then stepped back into mediocrity. Ranging from bizarre directing choices, like having the narrator talk over an otherwise perfectly executed scene in the first episode, or failing to offer any real closure on any of the interpersonal dramas in the series, this series seems to have an aversion to realising its potential. I cannot stress how much I wanted to enjoy this, but over and over the series seemingly refused to deliver on the premise it promised. I won't deny there were times where I laughed out loud, but the core story seemed fixated along lines that didn't evolve organically from the story being told. Co…

First few episodes were fine and I was expecting it to get better as story moves forward. I could not be more wrong. It went from fine to bad. The main plot does not progress at all, and when we finaly got to some interesting part, it ended way too fast. Episodes feel disconnected, if you would skip some of them, you wound not miss out on anything. Story is badly written. Main character is crying at least once in every episode. There is barely any character progression/development. MC is pathetic and she is bombarding us with same expressions every few minutes. Side characters are nothing special. I do not understand how this anime could get rating over 8. The only good thing about this whole anime is opening.

This series is a classic example of a lot of time, money and effort spent on a story that didn't deserve it. Stripped of competent directing, sound, voice acting, animation and so on, this is a Mary Sue derivative story about the smartest and strongest person on the planet having self-evaluation issues caused by childhood trauma. A trite cliche in the world of modern fiction. The protagonist's sole plane of change and improvement is limited to overcoming her trauma. Said trauma is presented in an explicit and cruel way, drawing in more cheap pity. Otherwise, Monica gives isekai protagonists a run for their money on how perfect she is, both in her ability and in her moral purity. Naturally, the plot never dives into something potentially dangerous like presenting difficult choices or anyt…

I really enjoyed the first few episodes of this anime, the premise was very exciting. A shy, timid witch with social anxiety so severe she can't even talk to most people is tasked with doing espionage in order to protect an important political figure from assassination. Although Monica is a witch of great talent, she must conceal her true power in order to hide her identity. This premise is nothing short of awesome, and that's why this show is so disappointing. It doesn't do anything with it. The first issue I noticed was the pacing, there is way too much emphasis being put on Monica's interactions with other members of her school, and not enough emphasis put on the actual plot of the show. Conflicts are introduced, and then immediately solved in the next episode so the anime can go back…

I started a new rule a few seasons back. I swore I would never watch another anime with a title more than 4 words long. I guess every rule needs an exception. I was attracted originally by the art, but feared this was going to wind up flashy trash. Wrong. The artwork remaIned strong throughout the season. Backgrounds are very well done. The animation may not have been the best I've ever seen, but for this genre of anime, it stands head and shoulders above the crowd. The characters here are a high point. I couldn't help but love Monica and root her on. She develops nicely and has to overcome quite a few issues. In some cases, she's still struggling by the end of the season. But you've gotten the sense she has a strong heart and great determination. She'll eventually overcome the obstacle…

The premise of the series are simple, socially awkward MC, fantasy world whit academy setting and an Otome twist, not exactly something unique. The anime start whit a clear presentation of the Mc as a strong and unique mage, only for it to fell more and more towards romance that in the end serve no real porpouse for the story since a romantic life is not the goal of the Mc, and the fact that it also has an Otome aspect to it doesn't really help. In short it lacks a bit of action whit the result being that the starting plot of the whole story develope really slowly whit a worldbilding pratically non existing that would be fine if the premise of the first episode were different. It's still a good enough watch in regard the comedy so it has that. The animation is really good just like the…

I decided to re-watch this, since I often change what I think about a series the second time around. And I did, to the negative side (7->6 and "not recommended"). As I said in my original review, there wasn't much magic, and this was my #1 annoyance, but how lacking is this series really? Well, I did the work for you. Here's a per-episode list of number of times magic appeared, what kind it was, and the total screentime: ep1: 2 (telekinisis, air cutting, flight, Rimuru's megiddo), <3 minutes ep2: 1 (feet-freeze), ~5 seconds ep3: 1 (half-joke "slope barrier"), <1 minute ep4: 2 (fire & ice, mind manipulation), 3-5 minutes ep5: 2.5 (remote fire bullet, magic affinity stone, electric shock), <1 minute ep6: 0, 0 ep7: 0, 0 ep8: 6 (magic bullets, barrier, vines, air cutting barrier, spirit summo…

I was hoping that there would be some action, at least with the MC Monica being super powerful, at least 1 or something like that. The marketing for EPS 1 was based on the MC's super cool magic + cool music. I read in several sources that have read the light novel that some say there will only be ROMANCE, no action, ugh, that's kind of annoying. It's not that no action = bad, but at least don't get people's hopes up like that at the beginning. Plus, the MC or Monica's background is unclear, and there's too much romance. The reason why there has to be romance doesn't make sense to me. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR OVER 3 MONTHS since Episode 1 to see MONICA'S ACTION, at least a little bit, but it didn't happen. So I ask, what's the point of her MAGIC and SUPER TITLE?

Wonderful, show, Monica is the kind of MC you just want to wrap up in safety and make sure no one ever hurts her (despite the fact she can defend herself just fine thank you very much) Her shyness but obvious slow growth is a hilarious thing to watch. The VA is top notch so you can’t help but laugh during her awkward moments, so7nds, outbursts and grunts. Since the story is really about her, you can’t help focus on how much you love her character vs some of the usual plot point and tropes you have seen before. Too many shows forget that you are supposed to love the MC regardless of the story and Monica thaws my cold heart about as good as anything I’ve watched recently. Despite her power, she has many flaws and gets in pickles unlike other OP protagonists. The antagonists change and move…

Without any doubt, the best anime this summer season. Everything about it was great. The music, the animation, the characters, the story... it just clicked. Bocchi the Witch delivered way more than it originally promised and I hope we will not have to wait for season 2 for too long. Animation and music - fantastic. The animation was of high quality for most of the show, especially for the battle scenes. There is really shined, with great care poured into every frame. And the music... it is out of this world for how good it is. This is a prime example for to make a memorable soundtrack. The silent with theme with orchestra and vocals is so epic that I have felt chills while listening to it. And the tracks like promise to the silent witch and take a step forward show an arrow in my heart wi…

There’s some shows that immediately grab you not because they’re loud or flashy, but because they feel like coming home. Secrets of the Silent Witch was exactly that for me. As someone who’s been a longtime fan of the light novels, this was one of my most anticipated adaptations of the season — and I couldn’t be happier with how the studio brought Monica’s story to life and showed her development. From the very first episode, it captured everything that makes this series special: the warmth, the character growth, and the quiet magic that lives between people. This isn’t a show that tries to blow you away with big action set pieces or political intrigue. Instead, it understands that the heart of Monica’s journey isn’t about the prince she’s assigned to guard, or the secret mission she’s on…

Secrets of the Silent Witch - I'm Bo-Bo-Bo-Bo-Bo-Bo-Bocchi Gotou...not the pink-haired guitarist, but Mo-Mo-Mo-Mo-Mo-Mo-Monica Everett, the blonde-haired Bocchi wannabe of a master genius mage I am! Pleased to make your acqu-acqu-acquiantance! D'oh! In the world of fantasy, especially when there's a butt-ton of works in the AniManga space, there's just something to be said if you can instantly connect with the vibes that some unique and not-so-unique series has to offer that has potential to make it big, and even more when the plot premise itself is just the foundation icing on a cake that has many layers awaiting to be peeled and taken a closer look. And for shows in the modern era (looking mainly at the 2020s), we've had shows in the vein of Sousou no Frieren a.k.a Frieren: Beyond Journ…
