Okay so basically this anime started off very strongly, introducing a very interesting premise with some very interesting characters to boot. However, this quickly changed after episode 2. If I just rated this anime based off of episodes 1 and 2 I would genuinely give this a 8 as the romance between the witch and boy was very cute.
This anime begins moving quickly, then makes a complete 180 turn in episode 3, introducing a new plot which ends up being the plot for the rest of the series. There was one episode where all the characters spent 20 minutes conversing around a single room. Can you believe that!? This is a 12-episode anime and not One Piece so they have no grounds to do that. The romance tag is incredibly misleading and this anime turned out to be an utter disappointment. I bare…

This is the kind of series that leaves you with a quiet, bittersweet sense of peace at the end of the day. Everything is told with the simplicity and charm of a storybook—gentle, understated, yet somehow magical. The art style is beautiful, the animation is lovely, and the soundtrack perfectly complements the atmosphere.
That said, I think the ambiance could have been even stronger with more atmospheric background music. The character designs are also excellent. From what I could tell, each character seems to follow a distinct aesthetic style, which gives the series a unique visual identity.
Overall, the presentation is wonderful. My only real issue is the pacing. It constantly feels as though you're walking in circles: the same problems, the same themes, and then the same problems again.…

I was searching for a hidden gem of the 2026 season. Champignon Witch immediately stood out for its beautiful, melancholic worldbuilding. Its fairy-tale atmosphere, filled with lush forests and magical creatures, creates a setting that is both enchanting and lonely. The series also features a clever magic system: Luna's mushrooms are not merely poisonous but absorb and process harmful influences, adding depth to both the world and her character.
The story is a thoughtful exploration of loneliness, prejudice, kindness, and healing. Luna is feared for what she is rather than judged for who she is, reflecting how easily people can misunderstand those who seem different. Yet despite rejection, she continues to show compassion. Through her journey, the series reminds us that kindness is a stre…

Champignon no Majo is a beautifully drawn anime with a fairy tale vibe that will certainly warm your heart. For those that are fans of world building, while this one isn't perfect, it's still very fun and complete enough for you to leave feeling satisfied. There are a few weird plot decisions that make me unable to completely recommend this anime, but if you don't have qualms with being forced to sometime see a weird romance plot of an ageless being and a 15-year old boy reduced to the size (and debatably mind) of a 6-year old, you should be able to enjoy this.
To get this out of the way, while not present at all times, it does feel like this romance subplot will become much more relevant if there is a second season, especially with how the first season ended. It can be ignored in this as…

The witch in the title made the whole anime for me; everything surrounding her is perfect: the visuals, the story, the personality. My second favorite character is the crow; I liked his crazy, jealous style. Everything else was just so-so for me; it all dragged on so much that it lost focus and impact. Dialogues on specific topics took forever and dragged the story out too much. There were episodes where it took 5 minutes to advance a single line of dialogue, for example, the people throwing stones, etc. It dragged on too much, and what happened after the wind wizard arrived dragged on even more unnecessarily, among other things. It could have all been 6 episodes and it would have been perfect. The beginning was magical, up until about halfway through after the meeting of the witches and t…

This is something that really should’ve been peak, but after episode 6 it just starts to drag, with no clear sense of direction.
“Champignon Witch” has a beautiful art style and a strong fairytale atmosphere, but its persistent issues with plot and pacing end up undermining the story it’s trying to tell.
The biggest problem is pacing. It’s extremely slow to the point of frustration. A large part of this comes from Claude, the crow, who spends what feels like half of every episode arguing about something. That wouldn’t be such a problem if it were occasional, but it happens in nearly every episode. Whether it’s him or another character, the plot constantly gets stalled by dialogue that doesn’t really move anything forward. If these moments were trimmed down, this could have easily been a…

After a couple of big disappointing series, I searched for an anime a little lower on people's preferences, hoping to find a hidden gem. You know, something cute, a better romance than the top contenders, a better story... So, here I am.
Visuals. Decent art style. It feels simplistic, yet the designs are decent enough (forget the animals). The cinematography was really good at times, with some amazing shots (the round window in the last episode, for example). The colour palette was a little lacking, but I think it was intentional, to denote a feeling. I'm saying that because there were a couple of scenes when it was very vibrant and on point. The animation was good. But, while saying that, also some sh***y stuff. Like the same scene happens twice, the character having a different position…

I really want to wholeheartedly enjoy this show, the vibes are right up my alley and I love how whimsical the magic is, doing stuff like "scattering your bad thoughts in the wind" it really exudes that fairy tale imagination. The fairy tale comparisons extend to the focus of personal termoil rather than action, which for me is OK because that's what I was up for when I chose to watch. My main gripes come down to the character of Lize. I don't mind the concept he brings to the table in a vaccum, but it really rubs me the wrong way how he becomes more or less the primary pov character after he is introduced, living Luna somewhat sidelined, I was expecting the focus to be on Luna's struggle to suddenly have to raise and train a kid, but instead we get Lize's long and frankly annoying self-loa…

An interestingly paced story exploring loneliness, love, managing negative feelings, and the nature of existing among other people. I enjoyed the way this story was told, it was a fun experience. Things did feel a little disconnected, especially when the storytelling style changed completely as Lize came in. It felt at times like the writers weren't sure where they wanted to go with this so they just wound up spinning their wheels a bit and brooding instead of continuing the story in a meaningful manner. It also occasionally seemed like they broke the rules they had already established for the world. I wish they had done more with the cat witch before she suddenly showed up. That would have made that situation seem more meaningful. I don't know if this is finished or if it was or is meant…

This show deserves more attention, especially for fans of Ancient Magus Bride. The dichotomy of the different witch clans are interesting and has a good amount of cute and chill moments. It's a modern day fairy tale and Luna's nature is pure at heart.
Originally it was an 8 ranking but a certain chain of events caused by a certain character swerved the whole story so it's not my #1 show for winter 2026. However, I look forward to season two and it deserves to be mentioned with modern witch stories.
As for the art, I actually really like it. It reminds me of the art in many first editions of fairy tales. It is colorful enough to embellish the budget. The music is vastly overlooked. And yes I actually like Luna's pet friends.
It is baffling why this show isn't ranked higher, maybe it's…

A fairytale, that should be felt, rather than watched.
Champignon Witch is clearly trying to be a fairytale, with both the whimsy and grimness that such a setting contrives. In that effort, it excels. This isn't an adventure story, or some kind of action set piece, Champignon Witch sells itself entirely on the weight of emotion, and the heavy themes and motifs it evokes. In that sense, it feels like a fairytale, and like the best fairytales it is neither too whimsical, nor too grim to be enjoyed.
Magical fantasy is a common genre in anime, and as far as I can tell falls into three categories. The first is where magic is incidental to the story, and treated as nothing more than an excuse for characters to do cool things. Fun, but lacking in depth. Second are the carefully thought out magi…

I think this anime is really underrated. Many other reviews say it is slow and gets the story gets nowhere and they are right but only partially. I think they don't get the meaning behind this anime and aren't the intended audience. This anime is more about feeling it then watching it if you now what I mean. The emotions are complex and because I focused on them and how they made me feel the anime felt paced just right. If it were any faster then it is it would have ruined this. Because of it's slow pacing it allows the emotions and feelings to sink in, and that's what I enjoyed about it. It really makes you feel the characters sadness, loneliness, but also manages to not feel depressing (at least for me) I felt more of a melancholy and bitter-sweetness because it doesn't forget to include…

This anime feels like a case of wasted potential. It starts off strong, with a charming tone and an interesting premise, but it begins to stagnate midway through and only gets worse toward the end.
At a certain point, the pacing becomes unbearably slow and the story loses its sense of direction. What should have been meaningful development turns into drawn-out scenes filled with little to no progression. It ends up feeling like constant rambling rather than a narrative that’s actually moving forward.
The characters also take a noticeable downturn halfway through. Luna’s awkward, overly meek personality becomes more exhausting than endearing. Claude’s tsundere behavior quickly shifts from amusing to irritating. But the biggest issue is Lize, his repetitive internal monologues become insuf…

In a season as stacked as Winter 26' is, there are bound to be some hidden gems. Champignon Witch is definitely not one of them.
Starting with obvious, the animation quality is bad. The entire last section of the last episode is literally a slideshow. I'd say half of any given episode is the viewer looking at a single frame while they wait for something interesting to happen. The character designs do not look good in this series; everything looks like Non-descript whimsical fantasy, the clothes look like they were made by a 43 year old piano teacher for her local middle school's spring musical. There are some creative elements going on with mushrooms and Luna's house, but I give all credit to the original mangaka for thinking somewhat out of the box, and none tho this really bored the pr…

I really wanted to love this show. I truly did. But this ended up being a painful watch after the first two decent episodes and being lauded as an emotional ride.
I wasn't originally all too interested when I saw the lack luster trailers and animation, but the plot seemed promising. The storybook style could be catching and the music was really good. I've listened to the main theme for weeks since this started airing! But also, the music hard carries this anime and did much of the heavy lifting to keep interest.
Ultimately, this show has a terribly awful pacing after meeting Lize. Their growth is painfully slow, the crow hinders them at every interval of potential growth (cue childish sounding "emotional abuse" tune) , the main character Luna barely speaks at all and as such is a TERRIB…

Champignon no majo is a story about a dark witch that turns poison or negative feelings in this context into shrooms. The more the negativity, the bigger the shroom.
I think that the premise of this story is interesting however the execution leaves a lot to be desired. It had so much potential but was ruined by the repetitive dialogue and a stagnancy that I personally have never seen in another anime before.
I will start by saying that the first few episodes were introducing us to Luna and her environment and were actually good. But by the time the anime reached the mid to second half, I felt like I was watching nothing in particular. Nothing was moving or developing. It was the same thing every episode with the same monologue by Lize.
Concerning the characters themselves: Luna is most…

Champignon Witch is a very charming anime with an interesting world that plays like a fairy tale. Though it is held back by awkward pacing and an overall lower quality production which doesn't fully realize what the manga has to offer.
Upon seeing the announcement for this anime I was very intrigued so I read the manga and found its unique world and storytelling very interesting. While the anime definitely captures some aspects, a lot of it didn't translate that well into the anime namely the pacing and dialogue. At times the slow pace feels refreshing and allows one to take in the aspects of the world and its characters, namely Luna with the first couple of episodes. This helps balance the slow pacing as while not much is happening the world is interesting enough to keep one engaged. How…

This anime is rather unique, rather than standard fantasy while watching it I had a feeling like I was watching one of Brother's Grimm fairy tale. It is this uniqueness that gives it its's charm and it's value. At moments it made me cry, at others it made my very happy. Overall it was one pleasant experience, but not without some flaws.
Animation and music: animation is good, the quality is constant troughs the entire show and it is feast for the eyes. Music is standard, despite not having any notable tracks it really hits when it counts to certain scenes.
Overall - good animation and enjoyable music. No complains here.
Characters: Luna is the main character. She is innocent, cute, good-natured and caring. But becasue of her unique condition most people fear her and deal with her only…

A different kind of fantasy, with more drama than adventure. Although the excess of drama is what ultimately took its toll.
The first four episodes of this anime are a delight. In the first two, you have the drama of a witch who is poisonous and cannot interact with people. Even so, she is very interested in human culture and wants to learn more about them. Then begins a whole journey to discover the witch's loneliness and how she longs to love and be loved. The whole theme of love is handled excellently. She is a witch who cannot touch anyone else; how do you transmit love without physical contact? Through magic itself. Only, like everything in the world, there are consequences. This is where decisions are made, and the viewer can feel the real weight of those decisions. A drama about lo…

Champignon no majo is one of those shows that really would’ve benefited from a 2nd cour. I enjoyed the story we got and think Luna is one of the best characters of the season, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the pacing here. It moves at a snail’s pace. For some people myself included, that’s fine because the world is so rich and colorful, magic is so well thought out and Luna’s relationships with the other characters, but for others this show might feel like a slog at times.
I think the first 3 episodes were really well paced and had a nice mix of romance, drama, character development, world building and even a little action. Then when Lize got introduced.. I personally think things stagnated and the show fell off a bit. He’s a cool character with a huge significance to the story. I…
