You know the story really had me going until we got to future war, because from the trailers I thought this movie was going to be about an actor living different lives through the characters he portrays, and the war was just another movie of his, but no it was a real war, I was not expecting that, it took me back a bit, but I remained engaged despite that.
The ending years of his life kind of went fast; the movie sped through the new family building a new society over the old grandparents' house very quickly. Although I did like how the montage was done, as it showed the protagonist clearly going through some dementia as he starts seeing family members as shapes as the montage goes on, very strong stuff. I saw the trailer for this over and over again at my local movie theater for a few months. All I could think is I had to see this when it came out. I really did like the art style, animation style, colors, directing, etc. It really gave it specific feeling or "vibe". I am happy I watched this movie.
However, I have no idea what the themes and such of this movie is. I am sure to the creator it has a deep meaning to them. I am sure there are people who watched it got hit hard by its themes and such. But for me I struggled to get what it was trying to tell me. I thought I had an idea until about the halfway mark. Then I lost all track of the themes and such. But to someone this must've hit hard.

This is someone's masterpiece. I went into it reading the description expecting a worse but still interesting Goodnight Punpun. What I got a was a messy, but commendable, attempt at stylised yet emotional anime.
The film's... interesting animation style and use of changing aspect ratios makes for a cool concept, but a sometimes annoying viewing experience. Though, I really like some of the ideas and story beats on display and it is conceptually great. However it really stumbles in the final act.
