When other yuri work is till pulling "we're just best friends" bullshit, this one does not bother pretending, It throws all the suggestive scenes right in your face. In some way, the emotional entanglement, ambiguity, push and pull, and confrontation of relationship are so realistic that it became uncomfortable to watch. The way the romance develop is quite unique. It tastes sweet at the beginning, but before you can realize it turned bitter and spicy, just like alcohol, the main theme of the anime. The hidden narrative in the ending theme song is interesting as well. At the second half of the anime I felt the emotional foundation shaky, but realistic as it is, it is unnecessary to judge it using my usual standards of anime romance.

So I finally got around to watching Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk after seeing it get quite a lot of praise, and well it ended up surprising me but also simultaneously disappointing me a little bit. Now I still enjoyed it quite a lot, I just thought I'd end up liking it even more. There's plenty of reasons for that, so let me get right into explaining why.
Art Style/Character Designs - 9
Animation/Directing - 9.5
Themes/Romance - 8.5
Characters - 8
Story - 8
Comedy - 8.5
Music/OP/ED - 9
Enjoyment - 8 For starters, the level of creativity in this anime was AMAZING! In the first 3 episodes they changed up the art style which I thought was really interesting and unique, but it did seem to become consistent from episode 4 and beyond. While I'm not sure if the manga changed art style…

Ok, this review will not be long, since this Anime in my Opinion does not deserve a Thoroughly explained review on why i don't like it.
Kamiina Botan fully blooms when drunk, is as the name suggests an anime where girls like to drink Alkohol. And that's about it, sadly.
First the good parts or parts the anime wasn't too bad
Animation:
we switched Artstyles a couple of times, and also some shots looked weird, but for the most part the anime looked alright. Some scene's were astonishingly pretty, almost on wallpaper level. But the Wallpaper look sadly couldn't be maintained for the whole 12 episodes.
Music:
was alright, nothing fancy but the music always fitted the scene, so i have no complaints there.
Characters:
Only talking about Yaeka, Kanade, Akane and Chin-lan here, cuz th…

Originally I sat down expecting this anime to be a regular laid-back iyashikei type anime, one that is easy to watch and relax with after a hard day at work and while that is true for this series, it is also way more eye-catching and astonishing than expected.
First and foremost, the art & art direction is so fantastic that I often caught myself pausing the scenes just to fully appreciate the details and compositions.
Taken aback by how certain B-rolls have more detail than some other animes do for their entire run. (No shade though!)
This is made even more so enthralling and creative by the ample amount of symbolism used.
The beautiful and tranquil scenes are furthered embellished by great musical scores that help the viewer get drawn in further into its soothing atmosphere.
I found b…

I’ve finally got around to watching Kamiina Botan, and if you want to know how much I loved this anime, let’s just say it’s definitely going into my list of top yuri animes of all time!
One of the things that made this anime work for me was its depiction of romantic scenes – none of them were over-dramatic nor did they require misinterpretations or anything too outlandish to happen in real life. All it took was normal stuff happening to make the protagonists realize their feelings toward each other, and that really worked for me because it showed the romance element in a naturalistic light which made it quite endearing!
I think Yagate Kimi ni Naru also has a lot of drama elements focusing on the conflict aspect between two people but what amazed me about this series was how everything s…

I'll get straight to the point: somewhere around the middle of the season this show goes from being a cute show about drinking into an absolute cinematic and emotional masterpiece.
Botan Kamiina is a show that was clearly written by someone who is in love with a lifestyle full of hiking, nature, art, trendy food, clothing, and most of all: alcohol. If you're the type who loves visiting craft breweries, hiking, talking about film, and going to indie rock shows you'll probably love this anime. Take that recipe and add in some cute girls doing cute things and a heaping side of romantic feelings and you'll have Botan Kamiina.
I can honestly say that I haven't seen many anime like this one. It's my first Girls Love show, but other than that the only one I can think of that might come close is…

Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk is yet another ambitiously beautiful project from Soigne, the studio behind Mono, and it easily delivers some of the most gorgeous and expressive art styles of the season. The color design and use of abstract imagery deftly convey the wide variety of moods and atmospheres packed into this series, especially those that drift somewhere along the spectrum of relaxation with a vague tension behind it, the character acting is both highly expressive and nuanced and makes the absolute best use of these incredibly cute and often sensual designs, and the background art is by far some of the best I’ve seen in anime period, standing toe-to-toe with the likes of Yama no Susume in terms of keeping my eyes glued to the sheer wonder of the natural world. It even ha…

8/10 - My favorite healing anime of Spring 2026
Here’s why I really loved Kamiina Botan:
1. **Unique animation every episode**
The character designs and art style change each episode. It keeps things fresh and shows how much effort Studio Soigne put in.
2. **Best OP & ED of the season**
The OP "Mebuku Toki" by yonige is super chill. The ED "Kanjou Glass" is also unique because it’s sung by the characters’ VAs and changes every episode. 3. **Great story & genre balance**
It’s tagged as Yuri, but it’s not extreme at all. It’s more about friendship, comfort, and Botan finding herself. Very relaxed slice-of-life with no forced romance.
4. **Kanade is my waifu**
She’s voiced by Minako Kotobuki, the same VA as Asuna from Hibike! Euphonium. I was hooked from her first line 😆
5. **Everyt…

My first part of this review will set up the mood. Then I will review it the usual way. When it hits too close to home, feel free to leave. Thats ok.
Disclaimer: if you think nailing a banana to a wall is art, this review is definitely not for you. Most (snob) people like to parrot opinions about what art is and if you try having a conversation with them "its avantgarde, apparently its too advanced for you, you pleb". Yes, apparently only the weird looking things can be art... *sigh*
TO keep it simple, even that "weird" art has rules. "Art is subjective". Wrong. Art has rules. AFTER you understand those rules you can break those rules apart and reinvent them in a very specific manner. Sometimes it might look like chaos, even for the artist, but by trying to stay clear of a specific rule, t…

This anime isn't for everyone, I admit. But if it's for you, you're going to absolutely love it. That's why it's an instant classic.
This is a gorgeous show, and the care and craft that went into its creation are evident in every moment. It elevates its relatively simple story through amazing execution, from the art to the music to the voice actors' performances. I saw some other reviews criticizing supposedly thin characterization, but that's not the case. Much of the story is conveyed visually and symbolically, as well as through the mood of the scene. You're not going to be told exactly what's going on very often, unless of course Jinglan is speaking! The show trusts you to fill in the blanks on your own, which further contributes to its pensive and occasionally wistful or melancholy t…

A very artistic take on CGDCT slice of life, but nailed it. And it's yuri!
What's special about the anime is that it doesn't have a chief animation director, instead a group of very talented people take turns each episode to add their own unique touches with a ton of freedom. This leads to some inconsistencies and if you're unaware of this information, to the naked eye it could look like budget issues, but that's not actually what's going on.
The anime is all about a group sorority girls bonding, more often than not including alcohol. It's a common theme for them to go on a trip that ends with drinking, whatever the plan is for the episode, it's almost always an accessory for the characters to connect. But of course the main attraction of the show is Botan and Ibuki getting closer and cl…

While it's an enjoyable show for what it is - a strange amalgamation of genres - it just tries to tackle too many of them at once, without managing to dive deep enough into either of them. But that seems like nitpicking when compared to my main issue with the anime - it pretty much glorifies alcohol consumption. Sure, anime girls drinking and making cute hiccup noises is fun to watch - as long as you turn your brain off...
Look, if you don't know someone who drinks more than they should, you probably won't get it, but drinking that often sucks - for the one doing it and for the people around. It's bad for your health, for your mind and for your relationships. A beer here and there? OK, I'm not a fan anymore (since these days everything costs too much...), but you do you! But look at them,…

After Witch Hat Atelier this is the best anime this anime season. The direction, the characters, the atmosphere and story are all amazing. Proving once again that you do not need to have magic or epic battles in order to be great.
Disclaimer: I will rate this anime like I do all else I watch - as a piece of art combining several different factors in order to present us a complete picture. Like with others so far, I will not let my personal taste affect my review. Just like I will not judge anime that are not in the category I like since that would not be fair toward them. The reason I say this is basically seeing some YT reviewers grading it in a way I would say it is "dishonest". I will not name them, but I will say that one reviewer who is very well known gave it average grade because,…

Have you ever tried to explain why you love something even though you don't even know where to start? Maybe a song, a book, a movie, a food, a person, a place, a moment. Maybe some feeling you used to have in the past, a good time on your life that you lived or a pet that you love. It's hard to explain why you love anything, right? Maybe impossible.
This is how I feel about this anime. Every single frame, every dialogue, every situation, every relationship, every laugh, every contact of eyes, every flert, literally everything...touchs my heart so much and so deeply that I can't describe or even understand how is this even humanly possible. Every single aspect is absolutely beautiful, touching and impressive.
The animation and art design are completely breathtaking, you catch yourself drow…

Kamiina Botan starts like your typical Cute Girls Doing Cute Things show with the main topic being "alcohol". So you expect a bit Slice of Life combined with them drinking different types of alcohol. And while that is true to some extent, the show also wants to delve into a topic that is often at most implied in these types of series and that is romance. And I think, this combined with the brave art style is what brought people to it. And I will agree that it surprised me as well and why I was giving the show more of a chance. However, I will also say that the show is not really delivering on any of these aspects. And sadly, this is especially true for the romance that often feels undercooked, because it just isn't given enough time since the show wants to do so many things (especially whe…

Horrible and boring anime but kinda funny since it's about girls drinking. Also something funny, this would've been a 10 if the anime's artstyle fully degraded to crayon drawings on notebook paper by the final episode (a theory I made up when episode 3 premiered). /j
I expected some good things about it, but it just turned out to be boring. However I do appreciate the style change each episode and the fact they let different animation directors express their art styles, but it would've been funnier if like I said, the animation continues to degrade every episode.
The art is lovely, but the anime itself is boring and watching the anime is like watching paint dry.

One of the best romance dramas I've ever seen.
Don't be fooled - Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk is more predominantly a drama than a slice of life CGDCT.
It's experimental, with every episode having a different episode director that really highlights the impact of director vision and their own personal tastes. Particular scenes will have really interesting compositions and motifs that personally made me want to check out the other works of those who worked on it. Some styles come off really strong! You'll for sure have some episodes you love more than others.
Something to highlight is that it treats "space" very delicately. The script is light, but there's tons of emotion being shown on screen that really speaks to the tender care put in from the staff. In a way, the anime em…

10/10 one of the best romance animes I’ve ever watched which is surprising since I often find these slice of life rom coms to be quite boring.
Didn’t happen here somehow characters are deep and have believable interactions, the romance is built up well with good payoff and of course the animation quality is simply gorgeous. The only ugly mark of this season was that poorly animated Ep 3 I appreciate the vision but I have no clue how they shipped that out thinking it was fine.
Ending of the season was a bit lackluster and while I doubt a S2 will happen it wouldn’t be terribly surprising with how the series performed.

Kamiina Botan would be a masterpiece for its visuals and artistic direction alone. This is genuinely one of the most beautiful anime ever made and a love letter to the medium. But it’s not just another pretty show, it’s also got an amazingly well written cast, a simple enough plot that’s still very engaging and some of the best yuri moments I’ve ever seen. Recency bias, prisoner of the moment, whatever you want to call it, I do believe this is one of the 5 best yuri series I’ve ever seen. Zero room for interpretation, no beating around the bush, no bait, just pure homoeroticism and yearning that permeates every episode. I don’t know what the statistical likilihood of this many lesbians being in the same dorm are, but I’m not complaining because it made for one of the best anime I’ve ever s…

Lesbian sex is probably the second hottest thing in the world, right behind anime girls getting drunk. So what if I told you there’s an anime with both of those things? Right, it’s the one you’re reading about right now.
Kamiina Botan Fully Blossoms When Drunk follows Botan Kamiina as she enters university and gradually falls into a downward spiral of becoming an alcoholic. On the surface, it’s simple: she explores different drinks with the help of her already alcoholic senior, Ibuki, while living in a shared dorm with a wider cast. But at its core, the story focuses on Botan and Ibuki’s bond through drinking, as Ibuki slowly opens up after a past incident left her afraid to drink with others. The surrounding cast also plays an important role in shaping the show’s atmosphere, each member…
