There are a lot of aspects to love this anime for, but the plot ruins it. I was searching for a shoujo/josei fantasy anime with a female ml and stumbled upon this one. The female lead is a strong, beautiful (no fan service and a normal voice thankfully) and confident witch. The animation is top-notch and the fantasy world looks promising. The first episode got me very hyped, as did the beginning of all episodes. Each was a different story, and started in an enigmatic way. However, as they developed, all of them felt very superficial, childish and there was no character development. It's a pity since we need more good animes focused on female main leads and this one really looked like an underrated gem at first glance! I gave it an overall score of 7 to give more popularity to female-orient…

You honestly have to watch this show all the way to the very last episode to really get what it's trying to do. I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews complaining about how there are no consequences after episode 9, or how weird episode 11 is, but if you stick with it, you're met with a really great piece of fiction.
To really enjoy this anime, you need to treat every episode as its own separate story. This is a true adventure title, sometimes the plot gives you something deep to think about, and other times it just wants to entertain you with some light action or a quick mystery.
Once you finish the whole thing, the final episode really brings it all together. It completely explains why the main character reacted (or didn't react) the way she did after the events of episode 9.
It’s not th…

I started this anime to watch in the background while playing games - and yes, in english dub. Truly heartbreaking for some people, I know. So take that with a grain of salt for my review of the characters, because I think that maybe the sub might've felt less.. grating and perverted?
I like calm shows that don't take a lot of brain power to follow. However, this was not exactly that.
I had started off thinking this would be a cute filler anime with magic and some random stories. The main character starts off decent enough but as the episodes keep going she gets a bit obnoxious. By the end I really didn't care for her at all. The side characters are a jumbled bunch. I like the teachers a lot and they add something to the story but the apprentice/friend Saya is a desperate annoyance. Ever…

Elaina's story beats are tame, feel-good adventures featuring a fun yet ultimately forgettable cast. While certainly a great watch for a younger, budding anime fan, one of Elaina's most redeeming qualities is that it isn't afraid to dial up on dark themes from time to time.
Elaina herself is a bit of a contradiction- a non-interventionist traveller who, well, intervenes. A lot.
And while the show tries to create meaningful stakes, she comes off as a bit of a Mary Sue- a child prodigy who's only major character flaw is her lack of humility. And to be fair, if you could solve every problem you face with a wave of a wand, you'd probably be a little egotistical too.
Some episodes truly had me hooked while I watched over TV-dinners. Others... totally forgettable.
But by the end, I was lef…

It’s fun… that’s all I have to say.
It’s an anime that starts off beautifully, where we are introduced to Elaine, who—guided by the books she read—dreams of getting to know different countries and traveling. It’s a journey-style anime that, at first, I thought would be a witch version of Kino no Tabi. Well, the premise is the same, but the execution and development make us want to distance ourselves from Elaine with each new episode.
The quality drops as the episodes go on. The stories start becoming more “silly,” and there is only one (ONE) episode that truly stands out. It raises questions that made me think for quite a while about that episode, about choices and secrets.
I give it a 7/10. Even with simple stories and little development, the anime still has its fun moments—like Elaine…

[JP, rare case where Crunchyroll has better subs than the fansub (GJM-Kaleido) which is overlocalized. Most episodes of the bluray require shifting the tracks by 9 seconds]
Conclusion: It is boring. The protagonist is a self-absorbed bitch in an unentertaining way. You will doubt my claims, watch the first episode, become confident I am wrong, and realize your mistake later.
The way this is directed and put together makes the MC vary from uninteresting to insufferable. Unlike Kino, the observer of stories from Kino no Tabi, or Ginko, the resolver of stories from Mushishi, this character is the protagonist of stories, all the stories. Thanks to a plot device it is confirmed so far as the story is concerned this protagonist is pure hearted. Yet thanks to dialogue/plot later it is confirmed…

So, i found this anime randomly and searched for some reviews about it and a lot of people said it was bad or the protagonist was too much cold and in a way self-centered, not interested in what happens around her (about people and the world itself).
I have to say, i really liked it: 1) animation was incredibly good, all the countries were depicted so well; 2) op/ed/osts incredibly good, also in THAT ep.9 at the end; 3) anime itself: the pace i have to say that tbh the timeskip of 6 months randomly in the first ep was "too much", like i get the 12 eps limit etc. but it was, for me, excessive but other than that i find it good with no issues; 4) Elaina's character: i have to say somethings about this > 1) i liked it but i was a little bit "saturated" from her being too much cold and carele…

I'm not gotta make some long review on this but this was a bad watch and i just don't get why so many like it I mean nothing happens in this anime no story and a unlikeable main character.
But it wasn't all bad I think the frist 4 episodes where fine and setting up something interesting then completely falls off as episodes 5 to 8 nothing actually happens and I don't get why I would watch it episode 9 was probably the best in the whole show episodes 10 to 12 where just boring and it had a pretty bad ending too the character's are forgettable expect for Elaina the main she's just as I said before unlikeable I changed my score for this a few times but settled on a 4 only because the beginning was strong and episode 9 was good but it's not enough for me to recommend this to someone.
Overall…

I'm not quite sure who the audience for this show was meant to be.
If you like cute stories about girls adorably bumbling through life and growing up along the way, you will find parts of it excessively dark and unsettling. If you prefer darker themes, for the most part, you will find the story boring and the characters annoying.
I do not think all of the episodes are in chronological order, either, so sometimes the main character will say she is eighteen, and then later in the series say that she is seventeen. But it isn't too confusing aside from that, as most of the episodes have their own story to tell.
The animation is really pleasant. I liked it a lot. The music was fun.
I would recommend this show if you're looking for something to watch around Halloween, and you aren't too pick…

Now,some of you may not like it.But watching it made me realize, how much I want a life like her.✨
Many people tend to say, Elaina is a selfish protagonist. But I understood her reasoning, maybe that's why I like her so much.
Her life is a series of introductions and goodbyes,so she can't her pour her heart to only one person or one place. That way, she can ignore lingering feelings and move on.
Some people may find it selfish but in this cruel world,it's the only way to save yourself..especially those of us who are traveling alone in this journey called 'Life'.
Whether they make a season 2 or not..it depends on hype I guess.
But I know how enjoyed the show and my beloved MC's journeys as the curtain was closing..❤️

I've just watched this show. Keep it brief;
Setting
I've found witch system unique, but that's probably because I'm inexperienced. There some moments about teaching the magic system but I can literally count them on my fingers. Definetly not the show for somebody who want to enjoy exploring their fantasy world.
Show style
This is basic Slice of life, but travelling implements some moral and character development of our protagonist - Elaina.
There is couple fetishes, especially after 6th episode. It simple and not dark, as the main character. The main issue is about chronological order, I mean it gets confusing at the end.
But there no arcs. Everything starts and ends in 1-2 episodes. It's not boring but at the same time no action heavy.
Characters
Only woman. Some old and young, but wit…

Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina, is the perfect anime if you want your blood to boil. Eleina is the absolute worst protagonist I’ve ever seen in any show. I do not mean to be harsh, but her character and what message this anime sends out triggered something in me.
All episodes follow 1 or 2 plotlines each, often with new characters. The plotlines often have something to do with each other. This is what, in my opinion, makes it easy to binge-watch for entertainment.
I usually enjoy these types of shows, but considering how triggering this series was, I just can’t give it any higher rating.
(Spoiler for episode 3):
In episode 3, we see 2 different stories. Assuming you've alreadu seen the episode, I'm not gonna go into detail, but both have a pretty infuriating end.
One of them…

Majo no Tabitabi or Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina, a spoiler free review for you!
A Magic, Fantasy, anime with it's story centered around various events happening during Elaina's journey. Being someone who had watched Frieren or other traveling type anime's before this I was somehow surprised by the similarities despite it having "Journey" in it's name a real dumb character moment I had there. That being said Majo no Tabitabi is far from the same show as Frieren or a simple "clone" as it would be called.
Majo no Tabitabi doesn't seem to have any major plot line or main story of any kind. Rather it has stories and various events happening during Elaina's travels to tell a story in it's own unique way. By doing so we're given a show with multiple somewhat separate stories that doe…

Overall, this is an okay episodical show about a witch on a journey who meets different people in different places. Most stories are rather forgettable, the standout stronger stories are surely EP 4 and EP 9. What makes this entertaining enough are the likable characters and the humour that isn't overbearing but simply accompanying the rest of the show. The high quality animation and soundtrack also bolster this show. Why is it still a mixed bag then? Because while it does nothing bad, it also does nothing exceptionally well. You can watch it and enjoy your time with it but it won't stick with you like really good shows usually do.

Much like Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica this show doesn't pull any punches. You haven't seen Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica? ok well add that to your list too. Majo no Tabitabi is lighter and more upbeat in general but still gets very dark in parts. You may expect a slice of life with generic characters but instead get something far more nuanced then we expect from typical anime these days.
Sometimes bad things happen. Sometimes you can help, and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you make things worse. Sometimes you can say "That problem is not my problem" (a logical stance never before taken by anime protagonists)
I suppose I was delighted by the show's willingness to break most rules of anime and have real characters make real choices. Sane choices by real world standards. Also when characters…

This ‘Journey of Elaina’ is dull, in short. It is not recommended to watch this anime for enjoy the story of Journey which is indicated in the title.
This anime tells one or two separate stories in each episode, but it does not have a clear main route. The story is insignificant and boring. The heroine, Elaina, is a naughty greedy narcissistic girl with a very realistic personality. This improved the watching experience, but the story itself is so faint that every shiny characteristic is shadowed by it.
The animation and art is above average, but this is not enough to make up for the defect in the plot.
I finished all the 12 episodes because when I vote in saimoe tournaments, I notice the brilliant records of Elaina. When I watched the first several episodes, I felt interested in it. H…

While it inspired by Kino Journey it as it has similar concept building I never got much into Kino Journey as hard to get into but I have watch an few episode and read part of the manga to understand the key aspects of the show. While I enjoy this show it not why I give such an high rating as it great show but it lacking in many aspects. What I obsessed and enjoy in the show it the concept of creating one's own story in life creating an story of your own that belong to only you. While Kino of Kino Journey show an similar aspect her obsession in that Journey is different from Elaina. While I am not obsessed with the character of Elaina I am obsessed with her goal and ideology of the purpose of her journey.

Wandering Witch may not be the best anime of 2020 as I do find it to be flawed but what comes in solid theming and a multi-dimensional protagonist makes this series good enough personally. When I first started watching it, I thought that it might not age well all because of its fantasy setting as well as Elaina being arrogant. But after giving it a better look and having a better understanding of it, I got hooked on the show’s theming and how Elaina explores the places she gets into.
Before I get myself into talking about the show, I want to mention first how this was often compared to a classic anime that took inspiration. Of course! What I’m referring to is Kino’s Journey… the 2003 adaptation. Kino’s Journey and Wandering Witch have female leads who are largely apathetic towards others…

No anime with such an unremarkable synopsis has any right to be this good. - This is the shortest and perhaps most accurate way to summarize this anime i can come up with.
While it may not be everyone's cup of tea thanks to it being a "Cute girls doing cute things" anime at it's core i was pleasantly surprised by how they went about it and the small number of recurring side characters makes them grow on you over the sadly short duration of the series.
Don't let the artstyle on the cover and my previous "Cute girls doing cute things" label deceive you however, some episodes touch on really hard subject matters but never with a distasteful touch.
Overall, while not being a stellar anime that will be talked about for ages, i found this to be a gem worth binge watching when you inevitaby r…

Wondering Witch Elaina, “Every journey begins with a single step. We just have to have patience.”
The story isn't all adventuring to fun nations; it gets dark from time to time. The story shows that the world isn't always a bright place, especially since magic isn't always used for good, and there are wars going on...
Elaina's character display is a realistic portrayal of personality that isn't being shown on some anime nowadays. If you notice every little detail, and character interactions, you'll start to feel that some of this is not being shown on some typical anime that you've already watched. If you are the type who enjoys Fantasy, Slice of Life and somehow a little dark twist, then this one is just for you!
That being said, this is the type of show that you will very much enjoy…
