Yuri!!! On Ice

Yuri!!! On Ice

Introduction

Reeling from his crushing defeat at the Grand Prix Finale, Yuuri Katsuki, once Japan's most promising figure skater, returns to his family home to assess his options for the future. At age 23, Yuuri's window for success in skating is closing rapidly, and his love of pork cutlets and aptitude for gaining weight are not helping either. However, Yuuri finds himself in the spotlight when a video of him performing a routine previously executed by five-time world champion, Victor Nikiforov, suddenly goes viral. In fact, Victor himself abruptly appears at Yuuri's house and offers to be his mentor. As one of his biggest fans, Yuuri eagerly accepts, kicking off his journey to make it back onto the world stage. But the competition is fierce, as the rising star from Russia, Yuri Plisetsky, is relentlessly determined to defeat Yuuri and win back Victor's tutelage. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I'm a huge fudanshi, LOVEEE anything with BL in it. And Yuri on ice was one of the best watches i've done out of all of them. Its a sports based anime mainly though, focusing on the main character ,Yuri, as he gets coached by Victor (another popular iceskater) to be able to perform in the up coming olympics after Victor sees a video of MC performing his most popular moves. I don't want to spoil much of the plot as i'd lovee and hope you'll watch it, but if your looking for something heavily BL based with lots of flirty moments. This isn't that :( but they do have a kiss scene. Theres lots of comedy moments and playful times which i love. Its a cute fluffy BL anime and comforting. The songs they play for each skater is performed really well, its catchy awell as the stunnning art!! Its so…

If I were being 100% objective, Yuri on Ice would probably get a 7 or 8. But here I am, watching it again ten years later. So clearly, it did something right. I still can't quite explain why I love this anime so much, but there's a lot to like. The cast is incredibly colorful, from the main trio to skaters who barely get a few minutes of screen time. Yes, there are arguably too many characters for a 12-episode series, but the writers deserve credit for giving each of them a distinct personality and even a bit of backstory. Another thing I really appreciate is that there are no real villains. No dirty tricks, no sabotage:just athletes trying their best while battling their own nerves. It's refreshing. One detail that really helps the series feel authentic is the presentation. The Japa…

Really a must watch anime! The first time i watched I thought it was okay but then years later when I rewatch it, I was hooked onto it and binge-watched it almost 6 times. Watching Yuuri Katsuki evolve from a self-doubting, overwhelmed skater into a powerhouse of confidence is incredibly rewarding. His relationship with Victor Nikiforov is the soul of the show—it’s patient, mutual, and portrayed with such genuine warmth that you can't help but be emotionally invested in their success. The inclusion of "Yurio" adds such dynamic tension to the series. Watching his journey from the abrasive, hungry "Russian Punk" to an artist who finds his own "Agape" is one of the most satisfying character arcs in the genre. He represents the raw, unbridled ambition of youth, providing a perfect foil to Yuur…

edit: God that ending sequence is so beautiful. "No tale is more compelling than the one that never ends." This was not supposed to be abstract I think(? I'm interested in reading the authors' interviews), but for a lighthearted comedy-style anime it did a wonderful job of expressing what love means to each of these characters. Maybe I'm being too emotional from all the skating sequences, but the love each of the cast has for their person or sport is something everyone truly has to experience and much to benefit from I feel. By love, I don't mean "true love" or the stereotypical type that actually involves more sexual elements to me. Love is messy, sometimes we choose it, sometimes we can't help but to. Passion make life better/more interesting. I think if you struggle to make sense o…

Yuri on Ice was actually the very first yaoi anime I ever watched, and it completely blew me away. I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy it this much, but from the very first episode I was hooked. I have almost no words to describe how much I loved it. The story, the characters, the emotions, everything just worked perfectly for me. The relationship between the main characters felt so natural and beautifully developed that I couldn’t stop watching. The animation and music were also stunning, adding even more depth to the whole experience. I really, genuinely loved it. If i could, i would watch it again for the first time ever its really beautiful.

Gay romance sports anime? Sign me up! All I knew about the show going in was that it was supposed to be good and that it's about figure skating. The pursuit of the sport drives the characters and plot, and I enjoyed watching the routines. Romance is integral to the story, as it plays a strong catalyst for the main character Yuri’s growth. There is an annoying amount of fanservice queerbaiting, but there are also clear assertions of a slow-burn romantic relationship between men. Yuri's story is great; I loved learning about his motivations and watching his journey to regain his confidence. I wish the rest of the cast had more depth. The other skaters are pretty much caricatures. Yuri's hard-working and talented rival also experiences growth, but we don't get as much of a window into their…

Yuri!!! on Ice is often labeled as a BL anime, but it’s not explicit or “lemon” at all. On the contrary, it subtly leaves the characters’ actions and feelings implied, which makes the story even more charming and fun to follow. That subtlety is part of what makes it so interesting, you can feel that something is happening between them, or that their feelings are being returned. 💫 The way Yuri’s love, admiration, respect, and affection for Victor are built is beautiful and very well developed, at least, it really touched me. The ending was the cherry on top: it doesn’t go exactly as you might expect, and that makes it even more special. The opening is stunning (I immediately added it to my Spotify!), and the anime explains the sport in a simple and easy-to-follow way. It’s the perfect mi…

Yuri on Ice is a stunning blend of sports, personal growth, and heartfelt relationships, set against the exhilarating backdrop of competitive figure skating. Its pacing balances tense competition with intimate, reflective moments, giving viewers both adrenaline and emotional depth. Many viewers are divided with are Viktor and Yuri lovers? are they 'brothers'? mentor and mentee? to me it doesn't matter. A close bond is a close bond regardless of sexuality or status. Don't overthink the relationship between them and you'll love it twice as much. All of the characters are compelling and layered, even the side characters: Yuri’s self-doubt, Viktor’s mentorship, and Russian Yuri's fiery determination all feel genuine. The voice acting is exceptional, capturing subtle emotions in both dialogue…

Picture this, a wacky comedy a la Konosuba has a baby with the gutwrenchingly dark deep dive into the entertainment world a la Oshi no Ko... there, now you have Yuri!!! On Ice This seemingly innocent tale of ice and a lil love is littered with minute but obvious tell-tale signs of the brutal reality of competitive sports and the traumas left on it's contestants. As they each navigate their way to the Grand Prix Finale while finding various ways to cope with their mental health, we the audience are there to sit along for the unfiltered ride ready to laugh our butts off, cringe at the WTF moments, and be in absolute awe of their spectactular breath stopping performances all within the blink of an eye A massive rollercoster of conflicting themes crunched into a studio apartment, on paper th…

Its a wholesome yaoi, which is more focused on the sport of ice skating than love/relationship. The intro is so catchy it get stuck to your brain before you even get the chance to start watching the anime, hehe. The art of how its been made and drawn is so inspirational and beautiful, its like you feel and connect to the characters and their emotions while skating. Like it is in real life and you watches it for yourself. i love how they made such a huge focus on the sports part, it really drags you in and you really get carried away like youre watching sports in real life. youre really cheering and want him to win! The story is wholesome and cute. Sadly due to the big focus on the the ice skating and competitions of the sport, i feel the lines or connections between the main characte…

Rewriting my old review because the fandom around Yuri on Ice at the time it came out soured how I looked at it for a long time. The first episode is a PERFECT first episode. I could literally re-watch the first episode alone, over and over. Perfect stand-a-lone. I really love the relationship dynamics and character interactions in Yuri on Ice. The Music is also amazing. The animation and character designs. It's all really great. It's left a lasting mark for the better on everyone who watched it. Except the fking people who were WEIRD AS SHIT about Boys Love around the time it came out. My experience witnessing the online fandom being critically chronic online as they had people scathing Yuri on Ice for not being the PERFECT gay representation as a Fujoshi would "expect" while a lot of…

For a while, I held off writing a review for YOI because I watched when I first started getting into anime in 2022 and the show had come out in 2016, so I was pretty late. But with the recent cancellation of the movie and the olympics going on right now, I thought that there may be some people looking into this anime to either re-watch it, or watch it for the first time. * this review may contain spoilers * I want to start of by saying a few things: First of all, I am a female viewer. Though I am part of the LGBTQ+ community, I am a lesbian, and I despise people who fetishize queer media, I'm not a gay man, meaning that my opinions on the homosexual relationship in YOI may seem different from other people that know what it's like to be in a MLM relationship. Secondly, this review isn'…

I watched Yuri on Ice for the first time in the winter of fifth grade. Absolutely loved it, obsessed, forced my friends to watch it with me, it rekindled my love for figure skating and inspired me to practicing again. This anime had a lasting impact on my life. That being said, when I attempted to rewatch it this year, it was so ass I had to drop it within 5 episodes (with love). The pace is SO FAST and barely gave the characters space to develop. You won’t know if it’s been 2 weeks or 2 months since the last episode. Especially Viktor’s actions are inconcievable. He doesn’t act like a real person would at all. HOWEVER, my love for figure skating can and will not allow me to give YoI a completely negative review. The art is pretty and the figure skating sequences were animated with love.…

I'm surprised i liked this anime, I'm not one to watch animes like this but a friend of mine said i should watch it so i did and i wasn't disappointed i really enjoyed the anime which is surprising to me i like the characters i loved the "underdog" story the "romance" it was a really enjoyable watch on top of that i absolutely love the OP track History Maker. now back onto the romance Victor is awesome and the dynamic between Yuri and Victor is really interesting. The animation and choreography is really good imo i found my self being extremely drawn in by the performances even though its only a "cartoon". It's a solid anime and a nice chilled out watched and if your into animes like this then i think Yuri on ice would be up your ally.

Yuri on Ice has brought a lot of people into ice skating, and that's wonderful. It also starts out being pretty compelling by establishing an interesting narrative of this out-of-shape, anxious, in-the-closet skater trying to drag himself back up to the peak. Unfortunately, it languishes in this mire of protagonist self-confidence issues for which Victor is the only solution, is extremely repetitive (we get to see the same routine again? I wonder what he'll mess up because of nerves this time!), and is absolutely not gay enough. I do not have lived experience as a homosexual person, but other reviewers have spoken about their frustrations with this. Yet, the core theme of the show, which is using love to lift you to greater heights, is undermined CONSTANTLY after the first few episodes.…

I quit really easily but this anime has given me motivation for things I'm passionate about. I see people say it's QUEER BAITING but the focus isn't just on the QUEER aspects, though I appreciate the representation, the focus is also on how the characters grow and what they think. Personally, the representation is fine and I like it. It's a good anime in my opinion and it inspires me! This is my first review, it's short, and I don't know what to say but I definitely enjoyed it and I think it's amazing. I hope more people can enjoy it too, I RECOMMEND IT!!! (Ofc it's fine if you don't enjoy it! This is just my personal opinion.)

I’m not usually one to write reviews, but watching this in 2023 for the first time I’m in love. Thank you to everyone who have ever recommended me this, and rip mappa for throwing away your roots. Love this anime, I’ll take all the copium for this movie to release some day! The story was amazing to me as my own boyfriend loves sport, it was also very unique. Truly unlike any other sports anime I’ve heard about or watched. The art style feels so fresh, it’s so simple at times but so beautiful at the same time. I loved the characters and it truly made me so happy bc to see how they progressed through the story. I just wish so badly there was more to watch.

The concept is fantastic as ice skating is a sport that isn't nearly explored enough in media. However, I feel like the execution could have been much better - the characters weren't nearly interesting enough to carry the emotional weight that the series wishes of the viewer. A few scenes work REALLY well and some of the ice skating is absolutely gorgeous, you can almost feel the air stand still. But most of the series just doesn't live up to the standard set up by those few scenes. I was also disappointed, although not surprised, by the non-relationship between Yuri and Victor; BL relationships aren't expected to be all that exciting but I really wish they would have gone deeper in this case.

Rewatched review 23/08/26 PEAK. Rewatching after years really make me realized how rare of a gem Yuri!!! on Ice is. It just exude positivity and sweetness. I love that every characters, no matter how small, felt so rich. They're all fill with personalities, hopes, and dreams. The implied romance doesn't feel awkward at all because their chemistry just works. You feel Yuri's desperation and Victor unabashedness bringing out his charm just fits both their professional and personal relationship. MAPPA really show their skill at choreography here that is reflected in the Shounen. Just give us more of this legend please!!! 9/10 Previous review 10/11/23 Yuri on Ice is the perfect easy breezy, binge-watch. For a show about competitive figure skating, it feels kind of low stake since the focu…

I watched Yuri on Ice ("Yuri!!! on Ice"). Here are my thoughts: Visually, the anime is good overall. There are lots of really nice character designs. The cinematography is pretty good, especially during the skating scenes. The character animation is fluid, although sometimes inconsistent. Some episodes were better than others in terms of animation quality. The most jarring visual imperfections were the frequent off-model frames during the skating scenes. This might have been exacerbated by my tendency to repeatedly pause and rewind these parts, but I doubt I'm the only one who noticed this. I'm not a stickler for animation quality, but there was room for refinement here. In any case, at least they didn't use CGI for the skating. For the record, I watched the Blu-rays; I've heard anecdotal…
