I went into A Whisker Away expecting a cute romance with cats and ended up getting emotionally attached to something much more complicated than I expected. The concept itself is already interesting, but what really got me was how Mio uses her overly cheerful personality to hide how unhappy and lonely she actually feels.
The relationship between Mio and Hinode is messy, awkward and sometimes frustrating, but that's also what makes it feel human. Neither of them is particularly good at communicating, and watching them slowly understand each other was much more touching than I expected from this movie.
And, of course, there are cats. Magical cats. A suspicious cat mask. Honestly, you already had my attention.
It's not a perfect movie, but I really enjoyed the emotional side of it and the way…

Furry, Fuzzy And Friendly
I'm giving this movie a lot more credit than it probably deserves, but I'm kind of swayed by the entire premise of cats, because I love cute kitties, and some of the themes of this movie do sort of resonate with me a lot more than they would have had I not personally felt some of what the characters went through.
The animation, music and overall artstyle are top notch and they're truly something to behold, but I do have to admit that the actual plot and events that transpire in this movie are lackluster and meandering. The entire romance between the MCs is simply not that believable in my eyes, but it could've been, had the story not rushed its entire third act. I like the setup more than I do the payoff, which is a shame. The side characters also feel like they…

A Whisker Away was one of the first pieces of anime content I've ever watched. It holds a special place in my heart because not only is it visually stunning, but it also tackles the complex topic of identity and depression. There is a lot of symbolism throughout this entire movie. From the cats that once were human but became cats permanently to the complicated relationship between Sasaki and Hinode, this movie tackles complex topics whilst including so many nuances that add up into the shows theme. I would recommend this movie to the older side of teens (15+) because I feel like the themes conveyed by this movie would make more sense and hit harder. I personally rated this an 8 because I would have liked to see more. There are also a lot of things that weren't explained that I would have…

A Whisker Away is one of those films that completely sweeps you off your feet with its charm. From the very beginning, it feels magical, warm, and a little bit chaotic in the best possible way. The story is sweet and emotional, the characters are lovable, and the whole atmosphere has that dreamy, whimsical vibe that stays with you long after the movie ends. I loved how it balanced cute, funny moments with deeper, more touching themes about identity, love, and wanting to be understood. The animation is gorgeous, the music fits perfectly, and the whole film just feels… special. For me, it’s an easy 10/10 so beautiful, heartfelt, and unforgettable.

A Whisker Away explores a whimsical yet bittersweet story about identity, loneliness, and the desire to be loved. The movie blends magical fantasy with the emotional confusion of adolescence, creating a narrative that shifts between playful imagination and genuine vulnerability. The story centers on Miyo Sasaki, a cheerful but emotionally complicated middle school girl who struggles to express her true feelings. Despite an outwardly energetic personality, Miyo quietly carries a sense of isolation within her family and school life. Her classmates often see her as eccentric, while her home life feels unstable due to the tension surrounding her parents’ divorce and her relationship with her stepmother. Miyo’s world begins to change when a mysterious mask allows her to transform into a white c…

This was by far one of the worst things I have ever seen. It gets so much praise for what? The story is bad, the characters are annoying, I had no fun watching it. Usually I can find things like this funny, but this was absolutely terrible. So much other anime movies are good, but this one? Most terrible movie in the entire world.
This does not deserve any praise and it is a complete waste of time. If I could give it a 0 star or negative star, I would.
The characters are really annoying, not good. I don't get why people praise this, everyone I know in real life hates this as well because it is terrible.
Do not watch.

It's a really great fantasy premise, but a really terrible execution on top of being used as a macGuffin vehicle for a terribly cringeworthy kiddy-romance.
It's really rough kiddyschool SoL for much of the first half. The FMC is portrayed in such a 'child-oriented person writing little girl' way, the 'romance'(nonromance) is absurdly forced for the entire movie. She's somehow all at once just a typical idiot who's suicidal, bipolar, autistic, narcissistic, cringe butt-bumping her crush and declaring her love to him constantly despite barely knowing him only through stalking as a cat, etc. She's a lunatic with zero ability to read the room or display any competency for the entire movie. This alone entirely robs it of any fantastical charm, somehow being all of the worst aspects of The Cat…

I had high expectations before watching the movie. That's why I expected something big but it wasn't very good except for the art design. The characters are very ordinary, the anime suddenly turned into a romantic comedy and then a drama, I was surprised at what I missed, I couldn't warm up to any of the characters. The story felt like it was written in 1 day, and the time skips suddenly happen and end suddenly, which is a very bad feeling in terms of watching pleasure. In short, it can be watched but there is not much going on except for the design, the characters are boring, the events happen and end suddenly.

This film could've very, VERY easily been a lot more inappropriate or obnoxious with the specific story it wanted to tell and the characters that were leading it. But the writers really seemed to try and avoid that as much as they could. And for that, I applaud them. Some people may still have problems with this film, but as someone whose seen this type of story done SO much worse, I was just relieved that it didn't ever end up there. Its a really sweet and innocent film that I'm glad to have finally gotten around to watching.

Welcome to my very first Anime Review. Today we shall be covering one of the animated films streaming off Netflix. “A Whisker Away”. This film has gotten some very mixed reviews so I thought I’ll just go ahead and give you my honest opinion about the film. Now this review was originally written for a YouTube video I was planning but considering I wrote a decent amount I figured it would be suitable for MAL. Anyways let’s get on to the review!
The Story:
I loved the story in this movie. It was very different and unique. It’s one of those films that just feels atmospheric and gets you really immersed. Like Alice in Wonderland or Spirited Away where the protagonist experiences an amazing and beautiful fantasy experience. The story introduces our main character Miyo who is head over heels i…

A Whisker Away is one of the recent anime films to come out focused on a troubled teen learning a lesson on life through some paranormal circumstances. In this case, middle schooler Miyo Sasaki is dealing with a troubled family life between her father remarrying following a divorce and her biological mother neglecting her. In addition, she has an obsessive romantic interest in her classmate, Kento Hinode. Wanting to get close to Hinode, Miyo obtains a magical mask from a mysterious mask seller that allows her to turn into a cat in order to spend time with him. However, this acquisition comes with consequences as Miyo find herself slowly turning into a cat due to not wanting to confront the stresses of her human life.
The film’s attempt at expressing its moral comes with its issues involvi…

You should watch this movie due to the following reasons:
1. unique plotline: never seen something like this before.
2. explores the characters and their personal struggles and their consequential emotions in a very adept manner: character development is evident in this film.
3. does a very good job at being extremely relatable; although one cannot relate to the part where you get to become a cat every so often.
4. potrays the "non-diagnosed depression" we all go through at some point in our lives. The feeling where we want the world to just end sometimes is potrayed here, and it is shown that there is indeed something that can cure it (as to what it is, you would have to watch to find out)
5. Nice flow of the film: Good directory, voice acting, and animation. And overall, just relax…

my favorite anime movie. I started watching anime with a whisker away and I was fascinated while watching the movie. The atmosphere of the anime is really nice. The characters of the anime are also very good. The main character of the anime, Miyo, who is hyperactive, stubborn, but thinks about people's well-being and increases people's energy, is an enjoyable character to watch. next to him, another character is a fun to watch is hinode. cats and the cat world are interesting and very beautiful places and the art is beautiful, in short if you are sad, happy, tired, looking for slices of life anime or you like romantic and fantasy anime, you should definitely watch a whisker away truly a masterpiece.
Rating 10/10

So I don’t think this movie was bad it was just not geared towards me. It is geared towards middle to high schoolers and I think that age range would enjoy this movie much more.
Also I really got the feeling at the begging that the main characters love interest really was attracted to cats in a “weird way”
I like cats so I thought I would enjoy the movie more
This is my first review how many more words do I need to write
The art style and animation are very good 8/10
Characters are not really relatable to me at all 3/10 Story is decent 7/10
Overall 5/10

This felt magical, it felt like a studio gibli film without too much MAGIC BUT STILL HAS FLAVOR. I love the story because it reminds of those old school Disney movies. Netflix giving money to these studios that are really good is amazing. Pacing, and animation was amazing. The music it was a eh for my part. The art style (It looked a bit plain like a regular low budget anime tv series. The art-style is not that bad at all, it's just plain. I do love this movie but there is plenty of better ones out there like "A silent voice", "Your name" and "Bubble (Also produced by Netflix)". If you want to feel like you're seeing a Disney anime type, this is the one to see. I do recommend it to people who loves anime movies. (PS- the plot is amazing with the drama and romance elements).

Criminally underrated | A perfect romance for begginers
[Spoilerless]
Nakitai Watashi wa Neko wo Kaburu (I will just call it Nakitai for the review) surpised me, I didn't expect such a good movie.
The beginning is not incredible, it's just a classic romance/slice of life school life
Then the setting of the surnatural element (at the first 1/4 of the movie) makes the movie interesting
The surnatural element isn't perfect but it's really good and original, I found Nakitai quite unique. The plot is basic but the characters aren't : characters express itself step by step throughout the film and develops smoothly, even if they're a little cliché The art and sound are the biggest highlight of the movie, for a slice of life movie, the art is almost perfect.
To conclude, even if the story is…

I'm gonna be clear up front, this review is mostly going to be me gushing about Mari Okada. Don't get me wrong, the other stuff is great; Junichi Sato's direction is fantastic, the animation is nice and fluid and consistent and the artwork is nice (if fairly conventional).
But Mari Okada.
I'm not shy about the fact that she's my favourite writer in the medium, and this is such a good example of why. She's certainly got plenty of experience with 'coming of age story with a supernatural twist' and plenty of experience with romance, and it brings the best of what she does so well with both genres.
It's an emotion-driven story, from someone who just nails every emotion she brings up. It's a character-driven story, from someone who has a gift for complex and multi-dimensional characters. E…

I have no idea why this movie has such a high rating.
The MC, Miyo, is the most unlikable and annoying hyper-active kid in existence.
That NEVER changes. Throughout the movie, she basically gets every wish granted to her, despite not really going through hardships that can be taken seriously. Her personal life is barely explained because again, her personal issues are not important enough for even the director to take them seriously. When Miyo finally talks about them to her step mother, they maker her do these retarded goofy faces that is like watching Marvel movies where every fucking character has a pun ready, even in serious scenes. I had zero investment in MC. That is not a good thing folks.
Her love interest (Kento) has slightly more going for him, but is again just a typical anim…
