If watching this show was the only way to discover that there are actually some girls online after all, then maybe it would be better to never find out. "And you thought there is never a girl online?" or "Netoge" for short, is a rom-com that is defined by a lackluster story and a strange character dynamic.
The premise of Netoge isn't exactly anything unique. The concept of cute girls surprisingly sharing a similar interest with an unpopular male main character is a pretty common trope in anime rom-coms. However, just because the premise might not seem original does not mean that it is bad. There have absolutely been anime with similar premises that turn out to be respected as a good show by many in the anime community. Once a premise is set, it is the responsibility of the story and chara…

Many anime fans will know of the infamous rule 34 of the internet, but neglect to even comprehend rules 29 ("In the internet all girls are men...") and 30 ("There are no girls on the internet"). The show "And you thought there is never a girl online?" is basically a wish-fulfillment show for the average MMORPG player where every player he meets in real life is actually a girl... and it is a pretty darn funny one at that.
Besides being a pretty funny comedy, the main question the show tries to answer is "there is a separation between real life and the game world, right?". Ako if firmly in team "game world is the same as the real world" while Nishimura is firmly in team "real world is completely separate from the game world". It's the banter and care that these two characters have for one a…

Forced myself to finish this series, and I’ve got to admit it was pretty mid overall. The story was okay but got boring and repetitive after a while, it was just another generic slice of life. I've cringed a lot watching through series of episodes, but they did have a few funny moments here and there. Not really my type of anime, but it made for a decent background watch while I worked on my projects.
I actually enjoyed quite a bit of the end, as the plot reminded me of SAO. I could care less about the romance going on here because they seem like they just want to carry out the tension to keep the audience engaged rather than getting into romance, just like how they similarly did in Oregairu, Love is War, Fragrant Flowers, etc.
Animation was fine, but hopefully they could've made the plo…

How come that I write a review for THIS Anime out of all?
Well, I guess I kind of want to be a Karen. I found the animation pretty nice, some nice amount of fanservice and it can be a bit entertaining. Yeah but... almost no character development, almost nothing really happens.
There was one choice I was especially annoyed by pretty early on, I don't think you can call it a spoiler. From the point on, the mc learned that every guild member is a girl, they changed the "ingamemodels" to their real life counterparts, although two were male in game. Also there is basically no logic to anything.
In some scenes, the mc gets in touch with boobs - but in game, in that pixelated game they play. And he reacts as if it were real.
Initially I gave this a 6, but I will go to 5 - average. Not bad, but…

Seriously, Why is this Score So Low?! An Actual Hidden Gem!
Overall Rating: 9/10
OKAY can we just talk about how this show has a 6-something on here?? Ngl, that's a total crime. I clicked on this show expecting some generic, mid-tier rom-com and I was SO wrong. I’m writing this review because I need more people to watch this masterpiece of chaos.
If you love stuff like Konosuba, you will literally love this. It’s got that same chaotic energy where every episode is pure comedy gold. The jokes aren't just random; they're super relatable if you've ever played an MMO. The lag, the endless grinding for items that never drop, the one person who accidentally logs out during a boss fight... I felt SO seen. Even the ecchi moments are played for laughs instead of just being lazy fan service, whic…

Ok…… I hope that anyone who sees this knows they must run—not walk—in the opposite direction. I’m a romance anime guru of the great and holy CPT. I’ve watched the most rotten of the rotten brain rot, and the most holy purification of juicy goodness. Yet somehow… this falls below the ranking system.
I rank this a 1, because there is nothing slower. I feel sorry for the animators who had to spend months staring at these characters. I feel sorry for the voice actors who had to breathe life into this disaster. And finally, I feel sorry for the mangaka, who looked at this idea and said: “Yes, this should be real.”
This is one of the most compelling cases for why humans should not have free will. Bro let his intrusive thoughts cook raw chicken, and somehow it got greenlit. In my hometown, I am…

Started watching this after someone told me it was egregiously bad, and I went in expecting such.
However, this anime surprised me with how palatable it was, considering how little it has going for it. The plot is straightforward, the characters are generic romcom cutouts and there's a fair bit of fanservice, following the standard formula for a romcom. As good as those points are at setting up the story, they are just as good at holding it back.
The plot sets up Ako to be less attached to the video game world however this ends up going in circles. Not only due to her character being unable to retain most of these developments (until episode 11), but also because so many episodes take place within the game world. We're given very few chances to actually witness the fruits of their labour…

Don't waste your time watching this.
First off, is there anyone who's actually a fan of this?
I just finished watching it, and I really wonder, "Could this actually be someone's favorite anime?"
There's nothing special here. Honestly, I feel like I just wasted my time. I'm still looking for the "romance" this anime supposedly promised. Honestly, I couldn't pinpoint any genre other than ecchi.
Ecchi is definitely not my favorite thing.
It doesn't bother me if it's not ridiculously over-the-top, and I went into this knowing it would be a bit explicit.
But dude??? They're high schoolers. How is this not problematic??? You've gotta have seriously bad taste to write scenes like that, for real.
Positives:
The "Legendary Age" scenes are mostly fun to watch, especially in the las…

Good Lord, that was boring. I mean, Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? / And You'd Think There's Never A Girl Online starts alright, in fact it start quite well. However, things not only don't improve but they also regress from that promising start.
So, there's that lad who plays video games and gets acquiainted with a girl who cannot understand the difference between real life and gameplay conditions, and they discover they are at the same school and then with others they form a school club to play a game so she would understand that real life and play are different mediums.
And guess what, from then on, till the very end it is "Rusian this" "Rusian that" and nothing changes and nothing improves and strange things just become normalized.
Maybe I miss the main point of this anim…

I gotta say, it's a pretty relatable anime for anyone who's ever played online video games. I mean, who hasn't made friends with their guildmates and strategized for the next match?
The story's about Rusian, a guy who befriends three adorable girls - Ako, Akane, and Kyou - in his guild. Little does he know, they're all from his school! That's some crazy coincidence, right? Rusian's "married" to Ako in the game, but she can't seem to separate fiction from reality, which leads to some hilarious moments where she calls him her "husband" in front of his friends. I felt for Rusian, man - it's embarrassing enough to have a crush, but to have it broadcasted like that?
Anyway, the anime's not super strong story-wise. It's only 12 episodes, and most of it focuses on their gaming adventures and Ru…

I give Netoge a tentative recommendation only if you’re looking for an anime that’s like fast food for the brain. The story’s premise centers around helping Ako with her inability to separate reality and fiction (the world of a generic fantasy MMORPG). Her addiction to gaming is so strong she has moments where she disassociates from reality. This negatively affects her life until she meets the rest of her guild in person and finds out they all go to the same school and start a gaming club together.
However, if you’re looking for a serious show that explores mental illness, addiction, loneliness, and society at large, this ain’t it. Though you have some scenes of Ako’s psychosis, it’s passed off as cute ditzy girl moments. Her belief that “marriage” in a game = marriage in real life actuall…

I was only paying attention for about 1/3 of this show and I still don't think I missed anything.
Weak main story line, just about followed enough to be relevant to whatever fuckery the characters were up to.
Absolutely no originality in any of the characters, a few of them might not have been there at all and it wouldn't have made any difference to anything of note that happened.
I would only recommend watching this if you want to cringe or want background noise while doing something else.
I did enjoy its happy vibes and easy nature, but at no point did I not know what was going to happen.

The main problem with this series is the female lead, Ako. The author could have just given her a blend of ditziness, personal insecurity, and shut-in tendencies. These traits would flesh her out, pretty well; give us reasons to root for her; and still have her fill the role that Ako is supposed to fill. Instead, what we get is a girl demonstrating serious signs of mental illness, which go largely unaddressed. The problem here is that neither the characters nor the story seem to take this issue seriously (or seriously enough, anyway). Consistently, they would try to address a problem in conversation, not really offer a proper solution, and would even sometimes get sucked into Ako's own twisted reasoning. As a result, the other characters (intentionally and unintentionally) encourage and re…

In order for a series to be seen, it must have an interesting premise from the beginning so that the viewer is interested and does not put it aside after a few episodes, the problem with this series is that, it can not only become boring after the passage of episodes but also the plot seen here we have already seen it on countless occasions before, it is not a series which gives us something more than a story of the daily life of our protagonists it is very simple and quite difficult to see after the passage of the episodes, it may also touch on issues of online video games but it does not manage to inspect these more thoroughly, it is a series of the bunch that although at the beginning it is interesting (or not so bad) it begins to decline a lot after the passage of the episodes…

I watched this anime in May 2023 and my God was it refreshing.
I'm not going to put icing on my words, the plot isn't great, a lot of plot points just get dropped after a few episodes. The plot isn't a literary master piece. But that's not what it's about for me.
I began watching anime back in 2016 and watching this anime was like opening a time capsule. This show captured every trope the typical male lead surrounded by females do stupid stuff while progressing the plot 1 step in 13 episodes really well.
From the art style and sound choices to the character writing and dialogue it just feel so nostalgic. I don't know if this anime is even any good compared to the other shows released at the time. But I just felt happy turning my brain off and staring at the screen while these characters…

Good anime character designs and character stories for the 1st season, the story was a good topic, it encourages the audience to watch it, but the 2nd season should continue with a good story, not to give an opinion, just a recommendation, you can show the love between ako and hideki more comprehensively, close or other characters also segawa, goshoin's high school events or love stories etc. You can take it as story topics, of course, your decision is just a suggestion I hope season 2 comes out because most of your fans are waiting for it sure. It's really good I think you will do good works in line with a story, I hope the second season will come, thank you...

THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
After this show was recommended to me some time ago, i was waiting for the perfect time to sit down and watch it. The whole concept seemed interesting so i finally finished all 12 episodes last week. Here is my review for ""Netoge no yome"!
Story - 8/10
So i decided to give an 8 because i really found the concept unique and relatable. This still feels like your typical ecchi comedy but it does enough things different to make it a fun and sometimes unpredictable series. First off, i have to say that i personally found this show to be very funny. The comedic timing was great, especially in some of the reveals that hapenned during the first few episodes. I know comedy is a very personal thing, but it would really surprise me if someone watches this show withou…

Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta?
And you thought this anime could be at least average?
I know that feeling when you've finished watching a relatively exciting or intriguing anime or movie, there's a certain level of "emptiness" left behind, almost as if want to repeat all of this all over again!
And with this anime, they've achieved the exact opposite of anything that could even begin to equal entertainment and quality.
The theme of this "humorous" series, revolves around the video game LA. A group of Game friends meets in reality, helping the protagonist (Ako) demonstrate the difference between reality and games.
On paper, at least, the whole thing sounds appealing. Well, until you realize that the author couldn't even begin to get results in any single area of his story…

Damn, first off, I wan't to clarify how much I enjoyed this anime. It was truly heartwarming to see the relationships between each of the characters grow, and watching the AlleyCats reach new heights was something special in itself.
And, I really do mean that, I don't think there was an episode that didn't either dealt with a real issue, or have the warmth of the characters frienships shine through. I just really wish that we could have seen more development, more progression for these sweet characters over the episodes, that's my only gripe, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy each episode as they came, and hey - sometimes life moves slowly too so I can't complain too much..... that is until they threw it in my face with the very final scene. They shouldn't do that to people, it really…

Oh lord... Where do I even begin? In all my 8 years of anime consumption, this has to be one of the most poorly written rom-coms I've ever come across - and trust me when I say that it's not worth your time, unless you're looking for something outrageous to fill your Friday night.
The story consists of 4 main characters, who all share a similar love for the MMO 'Legendary Ages'. After being friends for around a year, they finally decide to meet. This is when they find out they all go to the same school. Shocking, am I right? All characters are from different social backgrounds, so the circumstances of this group even continuing to meet regularly is very unrealistic. What makes things worse is that the protagonist, Nishimura, is the only male in the entire group. So, as expected, all the o…
