This is a very watchable and quite charming romantic dramedy. It's a bit slow-paced, but that is not really a negative in my book - it's not slow to waste your time, rather it just doesn't rush through scenes, making it a relaxing experience to watch.
The story is utterly predictable, but again, that's not necessarily a bad thing; just know that you're gonna get exactly what you expect.
If you look at the preview-material for this show and thinks it looks like your thing then you'll not be disappointed.
Conversely, if you check it out and think 'yea that doesn't look like my cup of tea'... well, you're probably right!
I will say that I think the side-characters are a welcome boon to the show, as they portray a very healthy and fun friendship/light found-family dynamic; they make the…

Textbook Shoujo slop in my opinion with the perfect handsome MC and the goofy clumsy girl being obsessed with him but it's still a good show.
There's nothing special about the dynamic between the two MCs, but I think it's still a sweet wholesome chungus story showing a love-thirsty girl find the perfect dude on a video game. Heads up though if anyone is wanting to watch this expecting video games to be a big part of the anime, unfortunately for you they're not.
If you like Shoujos like Maid-Sama and don't care about the character of the male lead, then I would still strongly recommend this anime to you

I really enjoyed this slice of life rom-com. It's most similar to Recovery of an MMO Junkie. Akane is very well dubbed, designed, and animated and very likeable as a character. Yamada is very simple, but he works for the story. The supporting characters function well as vehicles for the humor. The female characters all have more depth to them while the male characters serve more as stand-ins for basic tropes, so you'll have to be okay with relating more to the women of the show. The story does a good job being earnest while keeping a light-hearted tone. It mostly explores the vulnerability of romance and the joys of finding friends that have the same interests as you, even if they are in a different stage of life. That's why everyone in her group is a different age, as you might expect whe…

Wasn’t necessarily a bad show, I enjoyed some of the comedy and the points about connecting to others through gaming and finding yourself post breakup were interesting /unique. however it was often uncomfortable being asked to resonate/root for the main character given she is an adult woman falling in love with (and often borderline harrassing) a highschooler. It just gives me the ick and surely there can be many excuses made regarding the ethics of said relationship, but honestly aging the boy up (or everyone) wouldn’t have damaged the plot. I wanted to root for them as a couple but there’s an unnecessary moral ambiguity to it. Left feeling unsatisfied really. Could have enjoyed it alot more otherwise.

I saw this anime a lot on the tiktok community so i had high expectations, truth is, it was an okay romance anime... it had little to none gaming, it was a reaaallyyyy slow burn, and we didnt really get to see much of how their relationship developed...
I feel like the side characters had much more to explore, and i really loved the gield but it was again, cut short. I wouldve loved to explore more other side characters like Eita or Momo-chan. I also felt like the road to akkachan falling in love with yamada and viceversa was not that well epicted, it was a slow burn and then it wasn't, it didn't bring up the expectations like other romance anime bring.
Other than that, on a better note, i think its a really good anime to watch on a day, no big drama, no annoying characters, it was real…

the anime doesn't do the manga justice because it barely highlights their relationship (regardless of status). the art, music, and acting are fantastic but the writing just doesn't match up. the anime spends too much time on all of the other characters and they end up being inconsequential in the main characters' lives. i wish the writing team did better at cutting out unnecessary beats from the manga and didn't extend so many aspects into full episodes. it took too much airtime away from strengthening what could have been a much stronger bond. in the manga, reading the relationship ups and downs is the best part because seeing their healthy communication methods grow was rewarding. i'm sad that this was whittled down into another "they got together, that was the end goal, fade out" anime…

I watched this rom-com anime between 15 and 23 February 2026. Even though this is a Shōjo anime, I still liked it as a man because of the gaming theme. At the beginning it reminded me a little of SLF anime, but the story is actually very different. Where SLF focuses more on gaming, this anime focuses more on romance and slice-of-life drama.
Story: The story starts with Akane, whose boyfriend breaks up with her because he finds someone else in the same game they play. Out of anger and frustration she continues playing the game, and there she meets Yamada, who is a pro-gamer but socially very cold and distant.
Personal Opinion: This anime is a slow-burn romance. Akane’s bubbly personality and Yamada’s cold nature create many funny and cute moments when they interact. I will not say much mo…

I dropped this anime twice, and now on the third try, I finally finished it.
You know that whole “give things a second chance” thing? Yeah… this is not the case. I should’ve just dropped it for good.
Seriously, it’s sooooooooooooo boring.
The protagonist is so bland he makes Kazuya from Kanojo, Okarishimasu look interesting (okay, I exaggerated rsrs).
But seriously, this whole thing of him being indifferent to her, acting like he doesn’t care… but whatever, because he’s sooo hot, so who cares if a wet stale piece of bread has more emotion and facial expressions than him, right? His looks are apparently enough for all the love to magically develop.
Not to mention the side characters, who feel forced… and I’m not even going to talk about the pervy fan bathroom episode, just so the…

I was excited that there was a romance with adult leads - only to find out that one of them is a highschooler... half the scenes I was like "where are this boy's parents?". I guess, at this point i have to be greatful that it's not the girl who is younger... Apart from that, the buildup is well-done, yamada, the typical calm, monotonous, and dead-honest gamer guy and the overexcited clumsy mess akane, a match made in heaven. The side characters could be more developped, but it's fine. Just give me two proper adults next time, thank you
Some additional information (since my animelist complains about me not writing enough):
- the story was quite predictable, but in a fun way, sometimes we just want to feel nostalgic and giddy inside and this anime totally delivers that.
- i quite liked how…

Romance anime...one of the most interesting and sometimes frustrating genres. Sometimes it produces some of the best waifus out there, other times the relationship dynamic is so outrageous and crazy that it simply makes zero sense. My Love Story With Yamada-Kun at Lv999 is not outlandish, but it's also not magical. It's a standard slice of life romance anime, but seems to fall flat.
The story revolves around Akane Kinoshita, a girl who just experienced a breakup and has no idea what went wrong and wonders how to move on. Through chance, she happens to run into Akita Yamada, and the story goes from there. There's really nothing too crazy that happens in this story. If you have seen any romance anime, you likely know how this goes. They meet, they talk to their friends about each other, hav…

Story
The character dynamic pairs Yamada, a nearly perfect person whose only flaw is a lack of social skills, with Akane, who is generally bland but possesses a strong, never-give-up attitude. The plot is mediocre, but in that way, it is somewhat realistic for a college romance. However, aspects of the show other than the central romance are very shallow. Even the "video game" theme is extremely simplistic, and we barely see anything meaningful from it. To be honest, I was expecting a little more from this theme, especially since the anime's title strongly references gaming and levels.
Art Style
There is a noticeable difference between this anime and most of the usual "cute kawaii" romances. The visual style feels more grounded, which is somewhat refreshing compared to the bulk of shows i…

I understand I am hardly a target audience, but this is as bad as the anime industry today. It is so wrong on so many levels. It is not a deconstruction, which I would love. It is on garbage-shonen-level-bad, and I am a shojo stuff connoisseur. I would not slap 1/10 because I am not a TA, but I must, as I could not recommend that even for my weeb bimbo summer-child female friends, and I have some.
Probably this is strictly for Japanese consumption? Spatiality and graphemes are hinting hard. Plot/pace-wise, I was in doubt and checked out the manga - it looks like the staff do not understand how to seamlessly remediate the story. Anime is not a manga, wow. If Morimori-chan I can understand as a character, this title screams LOL DONT CARE )))))
One of the worst titles I ever saw, even kodo…

I really enjoyed! 1000 % Recommend ! I liked everything story, animation, plot, characters...and that INTRO that was great. They selected best song they could. I liked personalities of main charakters. Yamada was cold at first but then he was really sweet. I admire his honesty. The girl, sorry forgot her name, had perfect persona. I have nothing I dislike about her. I cant understand her ex. How he could break up with her bucause of stupid random girl from game?! Nonsense. Well his BIGGEST mistake in his life. Fr. My fav scene was that where that nerd girl, forgot her name again, confessed her love to Yamada and he rejected her. I dont know why it is my favorite scene... But I dont want spoil too much. I'll summarize it. Overall:
Graphics: 10
Story: 10
Subtitles: 10
Audios: 10
Plot: 10

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 tells a modern romantic comedy that blends online gaming culture with everyday college life. Instead of building its romance through dramatic destiny or childhood promises, the story explores how connections can form unexpectedly in digital spaces and gradually grow into something real. Beneath its lighthearted tone lies a story about emotional healing, social awkwardness, and learning how to open up after disappointment. The narrative begins with Akane Kinoshita, a cheerful but somewhat impulsive college student who experiences a painful breakup when her boyfriend leaves her for someone he met in an online game. Left frustrated and embarrassed, Akane continues playing the same MMORPG where they once spent time together, partly out of stubbornness and…

I can say I certainly enjoyed watching this show overall, but it is an exceptional slow burn type of romance. To the point that they never kiss in the show and only romantically hug in the final stretch. Also I get the feeling that this is one of those anime that's really just an ad for the light novel or manga but I've never looked into either so I can't say for certain. It has a lot of good plot points in my opinion and fun characters, but I also can't say I'm likely to rewatch it.
So if you're interested in a full on slow burn romance this is perfect for you! But if you wanted more of the lovey dovey relationship romance look somewhere else.

A very solid shoujo romcom for a more modern audience. There are many cliches, and our two MCs are your typical cool-but-very-kind-guy and cheerful-and-straightforward-girl dynamic as in many other shoujos - but Madhouse has really nailed the execution of of this anime. I'd recommend this anime for a one or two-day binge to make you feel warm and cozy.
Loving Yamada's story is centered around a girl who's been recently dumped by her previous bf and a socially inept boy who happens to be a professional video gamer. The two met through an MMO game. I like this setup, not too complex and revolves around a niche I've not seen much in shoujo anime; video games. I like how the writer captures the nature of Yamada as a gamer. He is actually an FPS gamer (FPS means first-person shooter - think of…

**Pros:**
✅ The comedy is excellent and does a great job of making the audience laugh.
✅ The characters are fun and engaging.
✅ The music in the comedy scenes fits the atmosphere perfectly.
✅ The storyline flows smoothly, making it enjoyable to watch.
**Cons:**
❌ The opening and ending songs weren’t very impressive; they would have been better with a hard rock style.
❌ The game segments were quite plain—more engaging games could have been chosen. **Overall Evaluation:**
This anime stands out, especially for its comedy, and draws the audience in with its entertaining characters. The smooth storytelling and well-placed music in comedic scenes enhance the viewing experience. However, the music choices and game segments could have been improved.
**My Rating: 8/10** 🎭🎶

This was actually unexpectedly charming and delightful. This show had a unique and quite charming blend of humor and romance development spread across the thirteen episodes. Natsuki Hanae was perfectly cast in his supporting role because you can hear how much he relishes playing these kinds of characters and it comes across in his performances. But aside from that, this show has a solid cast of characters that perfectly complements each other and aids in the development of both the characters and plot. The final scenes of the season felt rushed but it still would be great to see a season 2.

[TL;DR: A beautifully made, albeit extremely generic and bland romance story with cardboard characters and terrible pacing. Thanks to Madhouse the anime looks and sounds amazing; too bad it's wasted on a boring and frankly cringe story as this. Only recommended if you really have nothing better to watch.]
I really wanted to like this anime. I truly did. Awkward nerd romance involving video games and such, it sounds right up my alley. I had fun watching Wotakoi just last week, so I thought this would be more of the same. I couldn't have been more wrong...
First of all, the anime has basically nothing to do with video games. Referenced in the title and the main selling point of the story, video games serve as mere background props. Akane, the main protagonist, is not even a nerd, just a ge…

I binged this all in one day, it's really good if you just want a cosy evening at home. It's definitely not the most impactful and plays into a lot of stereotypes but it's feel good and simple which is just what some people need. The plot is simple and the characters are likeable enough to be interested in their lives.
This shouldn't be taken too seriously and will not deliver if you want something action packed and super dramatic but there are interesting dynamics between the characters and some of the scenes are really quite funny. It's reminiscent of 'Romantic Killer' and if you liked that I can almost guarantee you'll like this one!
