The anime started out great. The romance plot between Hori and Miyamura was extremely well done, and I found their dynamic very entertaining. The premise of two high schoolers hiding distinct sides of their personal lives who find comfort in each other is established seamlessly.
However, it felt like the show ran out of content by episode 7. It moved away from being a romantic drama and spent the rest of its runtime focusing on side characters in what felt like a generic slice-of-life anime. The relationship between Hori and Miyamura was pretty much sidelined from that point on. While the side plots are well-written and the character development is interesting, juggling roughly 10 different "main" characters with several relationships and two love triangles makes the narrative confusing t…

Horimiya, even among the star-studded lineup of 2020s romance anime, stands out and is a wonderful watch. It blends romance with subgenres of drama and comedy so well that to call it just a romance or just a rom-com feels like a disservice. It is very popular and highly rated, and for good reason.
The most easily praiseworthy aspect of this show is that, 90% of the time, it's a delight to the senses. Visually, it's very charming and clean across the normal scenes, the characters' faces especially are drawn very expressively. Yuki in particular is very fun to watch. The cast's VAs all do an excellent job too, and even the expositonal and in-between scenes feel full of life. The soundtrack is never overbearing, letting the characters and their writing drive the emotional scenes, but it's fu…

A sweet slice-of-life romance that thrives on the charming dynamic between its leads, Hori and Miyamura. Their relationship is a delight to watch, built on a foundation of understanding and genuine affection that feels both real and heart-warming. The animation is crisp and colourful, perfectly capturing the show's bright tone.
The series also excels at giving its vibrant cast of side-characters meaningful stories, which is one of its greatest strengths. However, this broad focus is also its biggest flaw. The time dedicated to these side-plots often comes at the expense of the main couple's development, making the central romance feel a little rushed in its later stages.
Overall, Horimiya is a lovely and comforting watch, celebrated for its endearing characters and wholesome moments. It…

absolute banger show, i dont rlly know why people hate on it, i actually just think that horimiyas relationship is the most obtainable irl, because to be honest i really dont think that tqq or any other harem anime is even on par with horimiya, but then again it was my first romance so im a bit bias. either way if you're starting the romance genre horimiya is an awesome choice, but if youre having trouble with switching from action to romance, you need to absolutely go watch sao (sword art online) it has the perfet mix of both, idc what anytone says watch past the first season until to get to aliceization its worth it.

It was definitely not my favorite, but I wouldn't deter someone from giving it a shot. Let me explain...
Hori's family, especially her dad... so funny. The relationship progression between Hori and Miyamura is fun, and I really appreciated that there was minimal internal freak out moments (in comparison to other romance anime).
The two mc are the best part of the show, as they should be. The issue is that the side characters are so run of the mill, phoned in, fill in the blank types that I never feel invested in what they have going on.
There are a couple of side characters in particular that I just found simply annoying. Also its very distracting how each character has a different extremely vibrant color of hair, maybe thats just me, but I kept finding my mind drifting to wondering w…

Horimiya is truly a breath of fresh air in the world of slice-of-life anime. From the very first episode, I found myself drawn to its warm, relatable vibe. What I love most is how it highlights the idea that people often wear different masks, especially in school. This theme really resonates with anyone who's ever felt like they had to hide parts of themselves around others.
The simplicity of the story is another huge plus. There are no over-the-top dramas to distract from the heart of the show. Instead, it's all about the genuine connections forming between the characters. Watching their friendships and relationships develop felt incredibly natural and believable, which is a rarity in anime.
The characters are wonderfully crafted, each with their unique traits that make them feel like r…

Horimiya is a show about high schoolers in high school doing high school stuff and working through high school problems and having high school fun while navigating high school drama. It's possibly the most high school centric anime I've ever seen. If that's your thing then you'll love this show.
The best part about Horimiya is that it is quite genuinely funny and charming. The comedic timing is impeccable, and the stories flow gracefully. The main characters Hori and Miyamura are fun and likable, and they're honestly just cute as hell together. A lot of the side characters are great as well: Shindo in particular I thought came across as a totally awesome and thoughtful guy. I was rooting for Kono the entire time. I really enjoyed how everyone navigated their friendships and in the end bec…

This anime was a bit forgettable but at the same time is what pops up in my head by default when people mention rom-com anime ykwim. It's got me into shoujo and I can't find anything quite like it. It's just personally I prefer love stories about weirder people LOL but its extremely well-rounded in everything it says it is, if you want an enjoyable generic high school romance with more realism I think this will be for you. More fantasy shoujo enjoyers might enjoy this as well as the overall tone is still happy and positive. This isn't a sneak diss or anything btw but the characters really are normal, well-adjusted people if you want that and it got me into shoujo too.

Horimiya is an invigorating, heartwarming slice-of-life anime which captures the essence of realism throughout its entirety. It masterfully captures the theme that people are not what they are at their schools or when around other people, which is something that viewers will be able to relate to.
The aspect of this anime that I love the most is how simple it is. There are no unnecessary dramatics and complexities in the story, but rather beautiful interactions between the characters as they start to get closer to each other. The relationships that build throughout the story are very believable.
Characters are certainly the best part. Each character is unique in their own way, complete with personality and traits, giving off the impression of being real-life individuals as opposed to fict…

TL;DR: First-time romance viewer? Great! Read the manga? Still good, but not so great.
Obligatory {{{ I HAVEN'T READ THE MANGA }}} warning.
Horimiya is a nice, simple romance anime. Simple cast to understand, simple plot development, simple side-romances. Basically nothing to really criticize. Horimiya is perfect for new viewers of the romance genre, as it is extremely straight-forward. Plenty of characters are relatable in their own ways, although all of them are representative of their own clichés.
Each episode meaningfully develops the main plot, and there are a good few hints at side plots. These hints are easy to miss on first view, but those who know the source material will find that they stick out like a sore thumb and are hard to ignore. Each episode develops the main plot, but…

Romance Anime Final Boss
So this is apparently the greatest romance anime of all time. Okay.
I just do not get the appeal of this anime at all. The romance between the two leads is extremely bare bones and doesn't really do much to differentiate itself from any other than Hori being extremely abusive to Miyamura. This anime's realism is a main reason people love it so much, but I feel like there's a double standard at play when people bring up its realism.
People call it "realistic" for Hori to be acting the way she does with Miyamura because it's her first time experiencing any real romantic connection with anyone. I can definitely see where people are coming from with that viewpoint, but if we're gonna bring up "realism" then are we just gonna ignore the fact Hori hit Miyamura TWICE w…

For an anime that adapted a manga from a series released back in 2007, it's insane how very good the adaptation is. Even though it's said to be good, there are still bad things. One of which is that people have talked about online, the pacing.
How did I find this?
I read it before. I haven't read it till the end, but what I could remember, I enjoyed reading it a lot because the MCs are charming.
Appealing (Why did I get into the anime?)
I read it and wanted to watch it.
Too bad that I couldn't watch it when it was released. So, I'm glad Anione Asia is making it convenient by uploading the series onto their channel. Even though it's time-limited (and it's not perfect), I'm still thankful that I can watch it easily.

Horimiya is also one of the first pieces of anime that I've ever watched. Hence why I waited so long to write a proper review for it because I had nothing to compare it to. I like it. I would recommend it for first time anime watchers simply because of it's length and feel good aspects. However, whats interesting is that I rated Horimiya a 7 because of it's length and lack of depth. Starting with the length, I feel like there was just way too much that was skipped. To me, it's unfair that the anime was only 13 episodes long. It felt too rushed and I feel like this story should have progressed slower. Horimiya Piece does a good job of adding more content however so I highly recommend watching that too as you go along. Now for the romantic dynamic, I appreciate how the more sexual side of th…

I know many people won't agree with me, but I rated this anime a 10 for several different reasons. The number one beings my overall enjoyment. During the whole show I just felt happy, and that's what a 10/10 show should be, doesn't matter if its kinda silly or some things don't make sense really just how the anime makes you feel. Like how I feel about Ouran Highschool Host Club being one of my favorite animes.
Another thing I love about this anime is how grounded and real it feels, no unrealistic scenarios just for the plot or ridiculous misunderstandings that last several episodes before being resolved. There is sometimes miscommunication but that's just life, then they talk and get over it.
All the characters are extremely lovable, Miyano being my fav. Just overall great anime 1000000…

Horimiya has been in my bucket list for a while and, just a few minutes in the first episode, I knew that I would have loved it
This anime brings classic romance without huge plot twists, fights, or anything fucked up, but it is heartwarming, well animated (I love Cloverworks) and it felt refreshing to me
I'm in my mid 20s with a lot of doubts and just few answers, so seeing teenagers interacting like they do here made me remember that life can be a lot lighter if you let it be so
I will miss Horimiya's vibe for certain, but it will be a great memory
I feel warmth in my chest typing this comment, this is THAT beautiful

I've recently seen Horimiya trending again on TikTok and whatnot, and I realized that I’d completely forgotten about it... except for the fact that I kind of liked it? Thus, I gave it a re-watch, and my impression remains the same: I "kind of" like it. I know this series and its manga have a cult following, but for an outsider, it is just a good romance anime, nothing special.
First of all, the plot revolves around two high school students who are complete opposites, become a couple, and yadda yadda. We've seen this plot before. However, what Horimiya does differently is that it actually portrays the characters being in a relationship instead of having them confess in the final episode. The show started off really well, developing Hori's and Miyamura's relationship in a natural and well-p…

It was one of those anime I wanted to watch the moment it came out, but the universe had other plans, mainly everyone around me constantly comparing me to it. And honestly, that alone was enough to make me avoid it for a while. I just left it sitting there, untouched, because hearing “this is literally you” over and over again gets tiring real fast. But recently, when the hype finally died down and no one was talking about it anymore, I decided to give it a chance. And voilà, I’m actually really satisfied. The story is sweet, funny, and surprisingly grounded. The characters feel real, the relationships are adorable, and the whole vibe is warm and comforting. And the funniest part? I still have absolutely no idea where everyone supposedly saw me in it. Like… what exactly were they comparing…

Horimiya is a cute piece of media. If you're looking for a romance to enjoy, this is a pretty good choice.
Typically, when romance is the sole genre of a show, I tend to not enjoy it. Horimiya, however, was actually quite good, it surprised me. If you like romance, I do feel that you will enjoy this show. I tend to see romance as the secondary part of a show/a way for the show to have a reason to do what it wants — whether that be comedy or drama. With this, I think that having just romance as the genre caps out a show at 7 for me. That being said, this got a 7, so it managed to hit the maximum that I could possibly give it.
If you're into shows with romance as the only genre, this will be a really good watch for you. If you're not into that, it'll still be a decent watch, that is unless…

Listen, this show in my opinion completely captures the realism of romance. I’ve read some of the other reviews and to my understanding most people thought it was bland. I understand where they are coming from but I really feel as though this adaptation captures the most important parts of the manga.
I’d like to start with the realism of the characters relationships. Every character feels realistic, the way they interact is amazing and it perfectly captures the fun sunny days of highschool life. But the realism doesn’t end there. The relationships are also so realistic, I think it is amazing how quickly Hori and Miyamura become close and how they start dating. It’s not even a last episode thing. They start dating in episode 4!!! The series rather than showing a slow buildup of their frie…

I enjoyed this feel-good anime. It was funny and made me happy.
This is a rather easy watch and I was very happy to see that the characters brought out the best in each other. For me, each conflict is healthily and heartwarmingly handled.
I haven't read the manga. I take it that some arcs are skipped, which is maybe why they came out with season 2 "The Missing Pieces." I am looking forward to watching that.
The anime is clearly a short one (13 episodes). Characters are introduced rather suddenly, but that didn't bother me. I was able to catch on, but I can understand that some may find it jarring.
There was one particularly unsettling aspect that only surfaced for an episode or two, around the middle of the season. I think it could have been included in a more healthy way or left out a…
