Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You

Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You

Introduction

Nasa Yuzaki is determined to leave his name in the history books. Ranking first in the national mock exam and aiming for a distinguished high school, he is certain that he has his whole life mapped out. However, fate is a fickle mistress. On his way home one snowy evening, Nasa's eyes fall upon a peerless beauty across the street. Bewitched, Nasa tries to approach her—only to get blindsided by an oncoming truck. Thankfully, his life is spared due to the girl's swift action. Bleeding by the side of an ambulance, he watches as the girl walks away under the moonlight—reminiscent of Princess Kaguya leaving for the moon. Refusing to let this chance meeting end, he forces his crippled body to chase after her and asks her out. Surprised by his foolhardiness and pure resolve, the girl accepts his confession under a single condition: they can only be together if he marries her! [Written by MAL Rewrite]

There are plenty of reasons I love this anime, but the main point that people tend to miss on their first watch through is the one that I point out when recommending it to other people. (Slight spoiler warning in the 2nd paragraph) The thing about this anime is how it blends together comedy, romance, and deep moments all into one. A clear example of this is when Nasa is working, he talks about how people don't realize many things, especially about themselves. Which is why, when they do notice something, its often too late. This line in tonikawa really stood out in my 2nd watch through. It shows how we naturally ignore subtle signs of stress and unhappiness, and often only reflect on our actions after the consequences have arrived. People often take relationships for granted, and health an…

I enjoyed every episode. I know many things are quite unrealistic, but regarding marriage, I think it conveys quite well how it should be according to the author. In each episode, I couldn't help but think, "If that's what getting married is like, I want to do it as soon as possible, but I don't think I'll have Nasa's luck in finding someone like that." I found the opening and ending themes beautiful. Every time they played, they brought me a lot of peace, and if I heard them again, I would recognize them instantly. So, I highly recommend it. If you have a partner, I think it's something you can watch with them without any problems, and if you're having relationship issues, I think some of the reflections offered could be helpful. I think the secondary characters were quite well done; t…

I’ve decided to rate this an 8/10, though it was genuinely very close to being a 9. I absolutely loved watching it. It’s such a relaxed show. I was honestly surprised to find out the episodes were around 23 minutes long, because every single one felt like it flew by — and I mean that in the best way possible. I was constantly ready to queue up the next episode. It’s one of those series that’s just incredibly easy to sit with. What I think the show does best is its portrayal of a relationship. Yes, they move extremely fast. Yes, it’s not realistic in most conventional senses. But strangely enough, it’s one of the closer depictions I’ve seen in anime to how my own relationship progressed. Tsukasa, in particular, is probably the anime character that reminds me the most of my girlfriend. Ther…

Great anime. I really enjoyed the series. The portrayal of the relationship between the MCs seems very grounded and an example of a happy one IRL. The circumstances which led to them becoming a couple are strange and not realistic and the rest of the series compensates for that by showing a really sweet relationship, going through everyday challenges. I really enjoyed seeing these two younguns become a better pair and being to complement each other. Totally recommend this anime to grounded realistic romance lovers Animation: Yep. Nice. Story: Solid. Charecters: Solid. You'll understand when you watch.... Music: Enjoyed the opening track but God overall

Back in 2024, I have written a review that may or may not have been harsh. I have come to redeem myself. Here we go... I was honestly really disappointed with Tonikaku Kawaii. It's not like I was expecting it to be some groundbreaking revelation. it's just that all the hype surrounding it intitially led me to think it was going to be interesting and full of heartfelt episodes and/or sad ones, or something, anything. I thought it would be something akin to Horimiya or Golden Time but less serious and without the drama. Sadly, it was not. I must say that Tonikaku Kawaii, for the most part, and in my opinion, turned out to be a generic highschool rom-com in disguise. It may not feature a highschool setting, but it does not present anything new to the table that other rom-coms didn't already…

Hello! This is my second serious review that I do on MAL and the truth is that with this anime I have mixed feelings since the truth is that even though it sounds bad, I have never in my life had someone like Tsukasa in the series, not as a wife obviously but as a person who supports you and truly loves you for who you are, this anime conveyed many things to me and also one of them is how the union of a couple is worth everything, its comedy is great, its references and even the values it gives are very nice, in my opinion it was a support and also one of the best works I have seen in life and its OP IS TOO GOOD, honestly I have listened to it a lot and it conveys a lot of peace to me I highly recommend it

The general consensus will put this anime around an 7-8 with my personal view however it was a phenomenal palate cleanser romance anime that makes jokes about the genre with it's fast paced development of the main couple stuffed with cute moments that are too much to bear sometimes. Romance genre in itself a lot of times can be mediocre and most shows try to use the same plot points to move the story forward with misunderstandings or love triangle debates. This particular show shuts down those tropes quite harshly specially the love triangle one it was the first time I saw it handled in such a direct way that it surprised me in a good way even fan favorites like Oregairu, Toradora, Your Lie in April remain tainted by that trope itself even though those are decent shows despite them. Stor…

I thought it would be more interesting than it was since they start off married. They’re not bad characters, but they don’t really engage me to what’s going on. There isn’t really enough humor either for something labelled a comedy. The antics are mostly because of Tsukasa’s younger sister but she is played out rather swiftly. Im afraid on their own, this couple just isn’t interesting. Nasa Yuzaki wants to make a name for himself but the show never explores this desire. And to be honest I barely know anything about Tsukasa other than some vague tie-in to the moon. Maybe they’re trying to imply she IS Kaguya or has ties to Kaguya but for now she just sorta exists.

I had never really heard of this anime before until my brother brought it up after giving the manga a shining review so when it got adapted, I just had to check it out much. Coming from a company that I was either which way about because it is new to the scene, and the titles it was releasing left a lot to be desired. It’s fair to say that I didn’t have my hopes up, but they were there. After originally putting it on hold one time. I picked it up one evening and binge watched the lot. The story is truly nothing new at its heart, but boy does it tell it perfectly. When it comes to these types of shows you tend to find that the whole story works up to a confession or you find out that they have a happy ending after the credits roll. Not this show. Oh no. You are truly thrown into it from th…

Tonikaku Kawaii stole my heart. I mean, I thought I was just gonna get a cute, fluffy romance, but nope - this show went and stole my heart. At first, I was a bit skeptical. The premise seemed too simple: a guy meets a girl, they get married, and... that's it? But trust me, it's so much more than that. The way the show explores their relationship, from the tiny moments to the big milestones... it's just so beautifully done. Nasa and Tsukasa are literally the perfect couple. They balance each other out, they support each other, and they just make each other so happy. I found myself grinning like an idiot every time they shared a sweet moment (which was often). But what really got me was the way the show tackled the little things. The way Nasa struggles with his own insecurities, the way…

A lot disappointed me about this show. This is a really bland and uninteresting cast. I was really disappointed by the main character Nasa because in his first couple scenes, he seemed like a really interesting character. He was kind of a narcissistic cocky asshole who would do anything to get what he wanted. I mean it’s not a good trait but at least it’s something I haven’t seen before in a romcom protagonist so I was interested. But it turns out he’s just another dumbass nervous shy goody-two-shoes. Tsukasa is just a bunch of anime cliches but it also always seems like she’s hiding something so it’s hard not to be speculative of her personality. The maids were pointless and cliche, Chitose was annoying but I’m sure she’ll be explained. Aya was enjoyable but the one person who really fuck…

Tonikaku Kawaii, also known as Fly Me to the Moon or Over the Moon for You, is a 2020 anime series based on the manga of the same name by Kenjiro Hata. The series follows the story of Nasa Yuzaki, a high school student who falls in love with a mysterious girl named Tsukasa Tsukuyomi on the night of his entrance exam. Tsukasa tells Nasa that she will marry him if he can prove his love for her, so Nasa spends the next five years studying and working hard in order to propose to Tsukasa. Great Art and Storyline Tonikaku Kawaii is a beautifully animated series with a heartwarming storyline. The art style is simple but effective, and the characters are all very expressive. The storyline is full of sweet and funny moments, and it does a great job of portraying the early stages of a new relation…

"Tonikaku Kawaii" is a heartwarming and delightful anime that captures the essence of young love and the simplicity of genuine affection. The series follows the charming and endearing relationship between Nasa Yuzaki and Tsukasa Tsukuyomi, two characters whose connection is forged through a series of fate-driven events. At its core, the anime is a romantic comedy that explores the gradual blossoming of love between Nasa and Tsukasa. The unique premise of Nasa's impulsive decision to marry Tsukasa after a chance encounter adds a touch of whimsy to the story. The innocent and sincere nature of their relationship is heartwarming, and the way they navigate the challenges of married life, despite their youth, is both amusing and endearing. The humor in "Tonikaku Kawaii" is gentle and often ar…

So, you know how whenever a black or LGBTQ character appears in a show or a game, the internet right wing likes to shout "political correctness is ruining our culture?" Well, if you make them watch Tonikaku Kawaii, otherwise known as Fly Me to the Moon, they will probably not associate this show with the phrase "political correctness" at all. But to me, this anime is the ultimate epitome of political correctness, not just for anime culture but for middle class culture as a whole. Everything in this show shouts into your ear and burns into your mind about how wonderful marriage is, how the normalized rituals of marriage bond is not only just how things are and therefore have nothing wrong about it, but are also absolutely necessary and romantic. By implication, it tells you that this is…

A Romance with likable characters this is a feel-good show. With a little light comedy to support the major romance tones this is definitely a comfort show. Knowing that the manga has over a hundred chapters more story and is still growing I'm left wondering if this show will have a satisfactory conclusion on the anime side. However, if you are looking for a cute romance with little to no drama than this will hit the spot. The art style is standard and unremarkable. The most refreshing part for me how they approach the relationship which explores the relationship in an unusual way.

Animation is pretty average. There are some decent backgrounds, but the character animation detail is fairly average. There really isn't any action other than a couple of minor scenes. It's not flashy, but general movement of characters and other things is fairly fluid. Characters are fairly likeable, but don't really have any depth to speak of. Story is pretty basic with a few intriguing aspects. Pacing is slow, but not unbearable. It did struggle to keep my attention after the first time I watched the show. Voice acting is pretty average, casting isn't bad and the voice acting isn't too grating. However, the performances are not impressive. Soundtrack is farily decent and has a good theme. Op and ed are great. Overall I enjoyed it. It was cute and kind of fun, but really not at all impre…

Get ready for wholesome cuz you are about to enter wholesomes'-vile with this anime! Where do I even begin to praise this anime? The visuals are on point with the mood, i doubt any other style would make justice to the story being told, the story itself is a total treat and the pacing feels absolutely fantastic, even animation mistakes are funny, i know i laughed! Starting from the top, the visuals are just amazing, they won't blow anyone away nor are they super stylized, but they fit so well, the blushing effects, the way characters are drawn, nobody looks over the top nor do they look like the team put all their eggs into that one basket, they all look amazing, very pretty girls, even the MC has a cute charm to him (it was very effective) As for the plot... well, the to put it short i…

first 2 episods hook you up big time. the show shines at its brightest when the 2 main leads just have fun together and enjoy being in each other's company. didnt really like the B plots like the blonde girl and the maids. as well as aya from the bath place (but the little one is a bit funny) I think if they keep the focus on the romance issues and how they are handling the awkwardness of becoming a married couple, as well as keep the humor they can hit a home run with the second season (story is pretty good bur i want to know why she wanted to straight up marry him instead of dating him. she could have asked to stay with him either way right? or maybe not? i dont know....)

Peak married life goal. What else is there to say? Because I honestly can't find any words to truly express how good it is or find any reason why it's bad. It has really loveable characters, every character is funny in their own way, and the characters have great dialog and chemistry with each other. With how well-written the characters are it makes the comedic moments of the characters feel natural and even more enjoyable to watch. An example would be how the protagonist, Nasa, literally named after the US government space agency (which is honestly pretty funny), is smart and hard-working and is also pretty serious especially when it comes to what he wants. This makes his dialog and comedic moments with his wife, who is old-fashioned and relaxed, the opposite of Nasa, making it even…
