Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san is one of the many anime's that struggles with lack of depth and an uninteresting plot. First of all the characters are bleak and aren't interesting. The only characters that are genunly engaging are Shikimori and Izumi's mom because of their unique attributes and physical traits. The side characters feel bland and don't really make interesting points in the show making them unlikable. A good anime always has to have interesting side characters and are memorable and pose a huge impact to the story. Lastly, Izumi is one of the most bleak characters in this anime with his only attribute being his bad luck. Other than that he doesn't have a unique personality and always acts like a massive kid in front of Shikimori showing how irritating and uninteresting he i…

Shikimori is a simple but enjoyable experience.
It is slightly unusual in the genre with the fact it actually starts with the main couple together right from the very beginning, although you do see how they get together.
It's pure and sweet in it's simplest form, there's no angst or drama of the sorts. It's purely an incredibly charming girl and her unlucky boyfriend just having an enjoyable time with each other and their lovely friends. The plot is a classic slice of life with them getting into situations and by the power of true love they resolve said issues.
It's not a "it will change the medium!" anime however that is not to say it is bad and it is still good and effective and it knows what it does well and does that, it's an enjoyable way to pass a few hours seeing a sweet romance wi…

As far as slop romance anime goes, this one's pretty alright. I would absolutely despise this show if the main couple didn't start it being together. I appreciate how some of the episodes focus on relationship troubles that don't stem from any external problems and focus on the characters themselves bettering themselves and getting over their own inhibitions to be a better partner.
It was about halfway through the season when one of the episodes barely had Izumi in it and I realized that I actually hate him and his deku ass dub voice and that this show would be a million times better if it focused solely on Shikimori.

This anime was so bad that without even analyzing it, it's just straight up painful to watch.
The first thing that stood out to me was the concept of the show (not the gimmick, I’ll talk about that later (if I remember lol)). on paper it’s really good— the characters are already together, so throughout the show instead of buildup and “will they won’t they”’s we get sweet, intimate couples' moments. Key word being ON PAPER. Horrible execution. it just feels really lazy. It’s pretty much a “will they won’t they” but with literally ALL the stakes removed. Like at least in more traditional rom coms such as Dress Up Darling and Fragrant Flower, there’s tension between the ML and FL. Usually as the audience we know how reciprocated the feelings are between them, but it’s still like “will he be…

I’m not one to normally write this type of stuff but honestly this show makes me feel so comfortable like I’m not waiting for anything to happen or drama it’s just good fun. Of course parts of the show are cliche but it makes me feel so warm. It’s not anything groundbreaking or super experimental but it does what it sets out to do perfectly so an 8/10 for a comfort show that hits most boxes seems like a perfect fit!
It also really grows on you over time I didn’t like it much in the beginning but by the end I was smiling ear to ear:)

Imagine watching a slice of life where the only interesting characters are the the side characters but the side characters still suck. This honestly is the worst anime ive ever watched. The plot is weak and that understable because is a slice of life but the characters are awful so its a miserable watch. The story is unique and original but sooo boring. Honestly I don't see what other people see in this because this is just a romance slop where the MC gets a perfect girlfriend that helps with unluckyness. Then It also doesn't help because you already know something unlucky will happen BECAUSE THEY DO IT EVRY EPISODE.

In my opinion, it was a pretty cute anime. It would have been better if it had a second season. Uzumi is really badly written, and Shikimori is the one who saves the story. But definitely, Shikimori is a character who could compete with Marin and Alya. I admit the story wasn’t great for the first season, but if a second season is made, it might get more points. The art style and details are very good, in my opinion. Side characters like Kamiya were well-written, and the last episode was very satisfying. I would definitely watch it just for Shikimori and the last episode. Don’t expect much from the story, but it’s not bad enough to be disappointing.

Picture this, an anime about a couple at a Japanese high school. Of course, that almost every anime especially in the slice of life and romance genre. Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie does not do anything bold or overly interesting, yet it is a very solid show that is like the Cinnamon Toast Crunch of Romance Anime. The animation and character design is above the standard and the close up shots are very intricate and used effectively. Story wise is it pretty bland beside the small subversion that the female lead as some traditionally masculine qualities like acting tough and cool or saving their damsel, the male lead, in distress constantly.
The side characters are pretty enjoyable and the core group of friends are just nice. The best part of the show is that the main couple has already been…

Simply put, the first two or so episodes are overwhelming and don't do the second half of the season justice. The instant nature of their relationship leaves a lot to be desired as on first viewing there's nothing for you to connect to or care about beyond the gimmicks and the character's depictions don't leave a great first impression. This is all flipped on its head as the season continued, specifically episode 6, 7 & 8 with an arc that kicks the characters in the ass and explores their relationship beyond the gag.
Izumi's unluckiness gimmick & Shikimori’s Strength & Possessiveness is annoying and overused during the starting episodes, yet it calms down as the season continues with a slow rollout of their history and cute moments of their relationship beyond their gimmick.
It takes 6 e…

First, this anime is really good if you want some cute wholesome and laid back romance, but already tired of stupid drama and endless "will they won't they" bullshit because both main casts are already dating early on.
The fact that both MCs have unusual dynamics with its role reversal make their relationship standout and cute. Shikimori and Izumi are pretty much in love with each other, willing to be better to make their relationship works, communicate properly when in problem, yet also still clueless and embarrased like the actual teenager in relationship for the first time.
Its side characters are also pretty fun and fits overall theme of this anime. You will see how solid their friendships are and how they enjoying their daily life.
In addition, Izumi is actually not a self insert a…

This anime doesn't start off as a typical love story anime, and I can't help but feel that's the reason this anime is so underrated.
Right off the back, you are thrown into this couples' relationship; you don't get to see the buildup of how they came to be in a relationship, but I honestly think that it okay. I actually liked how they played this out.
The reason being is that we get to see the aftermath of the love confession and being a couple. We get to see them go on dates, what they do after school, how they interact with one another.
Don't get me wrong I love seeing love confessions and the buildup between two love interests just as much as the next person, but it's also lame when we see the buildup and we get left with them ending up together as a couple, it's not common to see af…

Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san stands out for its unique characters, which immediately capture attention. Each brings a personal and authentic touch, with Shikimori being both lovably charismatic and yet impressive when he springs into action, defying the stereotypes of a common romantic relationship. The interaction between her and the clumsy Izumi is what drives the narrative, creating an engaging dynamic that is fun to follow.
The romance is good, but at first it can feel a little underdeveloped. The initial interactions between the couple are cute, however, there is a lack of immediate depth in the development of their relationship, which leaves something to be desired for those expecting a faster evolution. However, as the series progresses, the growth of feelings and interactions…

THIS ANIME WAS A BETTER SHITSHOW THAN WHATEVER MY DRESS UP DARLING WAS!! It showed Shikimori's depth as a character and her ability to be a strong yet feminine woman FINALLY a anime that protrayed romance through the dominance of a woman in the relationship that allows the guy in the relationship to be cared for as well.. I loved that in this anime it wasn't the woman that was all "I'M thE DamSel In DisTresS I Can'T Do AnyThiNg WithOut My BoyFrIenD", Shikimori had her own strong personality and was independent while also being kind and thoughtful. EVEN THROUGH THAT Izumi shows his strengths by being able to carry a positive attitude while having bad luck constantly thrown at him, the best part as well was the non-sexualization of them as minors! My dress up darling was a bunch of sexualiza…

Honestly, I went into this anime thinking it'd be just another generic rom-com, but oh man, was I wrong! Shikimori completely stole my heart with her adorableness and fierce loyalty. I mean, who wouldn't want a girlfriend like that?! Izumi's awkwardness was so relatable, I cringed and laughed at the same time. Their interactions were pure gold, and I shipped them so hard!
But what really surprised me was the depth of the characters. Shikimori's not just a cute face (although, let's be real, she totally is); she's got a rich inner life and a wicked sense of humor. And Izumi's vulnerabilities made him so human. I loved how the anime explored their insecurities and fears, making their relationship feel genuine and earned.
The supporting cast was amazing too! Nekozaki's sassiness and Inuzuka…

This anime is for people who enjoy a cool and pretty girlfriend to protect a weak with bad luck boyfriend. The story overall does not go fast rather like offers a slice of life with romance genres.
The animation quality is solid, with colors and fluid movements is solid.
The unique aspects of this anime are Izumi's very bad luck and Shikimori being a very cool and pretty girl. So, as you can guess, this anime is for those who like romance and slice-of-life school settings. It's perfect for sitting back, watching the show, and chilling on the couch
Whether you enjoy this kind of story is personal, but for me, I like slice-of-life and relaxing romances where the characters are already dating. It makes me not feel on edge, waiting for them to confess their love to each other. So, I give th…

Look, I ain’t got no problems with strong women in romance anime and shit, in fact I believe that we should have more of that, but this straight up feels like some propaganda material serving the feminist agenda or something. Like, the power dynamics are hella off, even nasuo, the artist for the OP, addressed this by saying 「なんか僕よりも彼氏みたい」which roughly translates to “you look more like the boyfriend than me”. You get what I’m saying now?
The story goes like this, Izumi Yuuki, who’s been under an umbrella while God was making luck rain from the sky, pulls Miyako Shikimori, the baddest girl one can ask for. Yet both of them have some screws loose for real. Miyako be trying to be more feminine, as if her looks ain’t enough for that. My friend Ediz (a.k.a BRUHLAS) actually had some shit to say…

i never review but the other reviews made me soo mad😭😭😭😭
This anime is supposed to be silly and cute and entertaining AND IT IS!!! Its not groundbreaking or anything but I think its pretty unique to have an anime focusing on after two characters get together. Its not really fair to get upset that its not in the normal format where they crush on each other for 12 episodes then confess at the end?? like its not trying to be that??
And the art and animation are beautiful!! the side characters are simple but they all feel like actual friends instead of characters that show up to interact with the mcs sometimes.
And the last thing,,,, this anime really doesnt seem like it was written to appeal directly to men.... Theres not really any fanservice, the male mc is honestly kind of pathetic…

The series offers you unique-Romance type of Anime. If you are looking for a cheesy yet laid back feel that doesn't invoke much of heavy feeling of sadness I would highly recommend watching this one. The rating doesn't necessarily reflect the overall quality of this series, yes it is not perfect, but it is worth the watch.
The traditional romance anime contains a Male Character being the cool guy while the Female Character being the shy and timid one. However in this Anime, you are introduced to an unusual pair of Shikimori and Izumi. As the title suggests that "Shikimori is not just a cutie", this Anime delves deep into that Idea and is paired by an adorable dynamics between of their relationship. My first thought while watching this series is that, it's extremely unusual for the girl to…

Imagine a plain general shoujo romcom from the 2000s, early 2010s, make it even more over the top (not in a good way) and switch the gender roles - Boom, there you have it, Shikimori is not just a cutie.
Thats all there is to the whole show, there are only two redeeming qualities to the show, one is that the mc pair is already in a relationship, so we skip the bullshit "accidental hand touching = losing virginity" type of shit (Dont get me wrong, that trope can be funny in a VERY short time (like 1 ep.max), but not all the time). The other one is that the mc did not get castrated during the show, bro was so forgettable I literally forgot his name already, and I bingewatched it an hour ago- and on a related note Shikimori (female mc) does not turn yandere (except some comedic moments).
So,…
