According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly.
Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground.
The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.
Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Ooh, black and yellow!
Let's shake it up a little.
Barry! Breakfast is ready!
Coming!
Hang on a second.
Hello?
Barry?
Adam?
Can you believe this is happening?
I can't.
I'll pick you up.
Looking sharp.

My Dress-Up Darling was a comforting watch to say the least. The story was very gentle with no major turning points and the relationship that develops between Gojo and Marin is especially wholesome although it doesn't r.
What I particularly enjoyed about the show was its subplot on freedom of character and identity. These themes made the anime all the more relatable and also enriched the development of the romantic relationship between the main characters. Learning to be yourself and not allow other's judgment to discourage you from your dream, it added a nice touch to the show.
The only downside in my opinion was the excessive fan service, as it sort of engulfs the romace in a cloud of lust making it unnatural in a way. Apart from that, the main characters share various heartwarming mo…

Absolute peak romance that doesn’t shy away from its echiness and fan service - aside from that the animation is absolutely gorgeous as expected from any clover works show and I absolutely love marins no filter personality aswell as how bubbly of a charachter is - the concept of cosplaying I always really really enjoy and it reminds how creative these authors can really be - I love the development between gojo and Marin and overall is just veryyy wholesome and a great time whilst watching - I have no doubt that s2 will live up to it or even be better than it

I'll keep this short and sweet, so those who are turned away at an objective viewing of the character dynamics can move on, and those that find it helpful can get right to the meat.
It's effectively a self-insert of the mangaka, where the protagonist is her ideal man (legitimately, she has said as much), a young man who's willing to give everything and receive nothing in return, all while she goes off and has her fun as an OF model in her free time, except the writer tries desperately to paint it as romantic.
I'm not saying that this anime has nothing at all to offer. The animation is legitimately well done, as well as framing of shots, and building romantic tension (if you turn your brain off enough to avoid realizing how abusive the dynamic actually is), as well as making the protagoni…

There are plenty of romance anime about two complete opposites falling in love.
There are even more anime about an introvert meeting an extrovert.
So, on paper, My Dress Up Darling sounds like something we've seen a hundred times before a shy boy who spends his days making traditional hina dolls crosses paths with the most popular girl in school, who just happens to be a weeb.
That premise alone shouldn't have become one of the biggest anime hits of 2022. Yet somehow, it did. Not because of fanservice its simply because Marin became one of the internet's favorite anime girls. Marin Kitagawa didn't just become the breakout anime girl of 2022 she became the anime girl everyone was talking about. It's easy to understand why. She's confident without being arrogant, unapologetically passionat…

My Dress Up Darling!!!
I had initially watched the first season when it first aired in 2022 and have rewatched season 1 just recently!
I'll start with the negatives.
To be honest, I was going to give the first season a 6 because the fan service is...a lot. I had no clue it was ecchi. (yes i didn't remember the fan service scenes when I first watched it, it was 4 years ago.) There were moments where i literally had to pause and go "what the fuck am i looking at" or "are we seriously going to use this angle". I didn't go into the anime with the intent to look at boobs jiggle or have awkward angles of ass and feet. There is also the sexualization of minors which was very weird as well. I feel like they could have progressed the plot without including some of the scenes with the sisters.…

There's a lot I like about My Dress Up Darling. For one, I love the sheer amount of passion present for the art of making cosplay and otaku culture. It treats everything with such whimsy and fanaticism that it's hard to not only feel that same passion, but take that same passion outside of the anime and apply it to my life. Recently I've found myself with more enthusiasm towards the things I invest my daily life into whether that be enjoying more anime, or my modeling hobby. I also really like how Marin and Gojo are characterized. Their dynamic is cute and I really liked the chemistry they had towards each other. Marin supports Gojo by helping him gain confidence in his interests while also helping him overcome his (somewhat comical) shame that he has towards what he enjoys (also just bein…

This is an easy recommendation to anyone who enjoys romances as these two (Gojo and Marin) are adorable together, and to anyone who is into the otaku subculture of cosplaying. I'd also highly recommend this romance to couples who are both into anime, which I cant say about most romances.
Review:
Normal, audience-insert character Gojo-kun lives with gramps at his Hina Doll shop where Gojo keeps his Hina Doll making interest to himself after being made fun of for it when he was little. Meanwhile, preppy popular girl Marin, has an otaku side and an aspiring interest in cosplay. Fates collide and Gojo-kun and Marin encounter each other after school, using the schools sewing machine for their respective interests. Gojo agrees to help Marin, who is an amateur with costuming and sewing; and th…

cute, it was enjoyable for a bit, great first episode especially that hooks you with the characters but then was horribly disappointing they didn't adapt the manga properly, aka... censorship -_- not planning to watch S2 but did collect the manga.
art style yes also good, That's why it's also disappointing at the same time.
all characters even introduced later are great. Juju best girl-- is what id like to say but Marin too ah man just great adorable characters and some nice simple character growth too later on especially but even in the 1st season.
I don't mean to rant on but seems there is a limit in how short a review can be.

I must say, Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru (My Dress-Up Darling in English) is an anime that really surprised me. I thought I was just going to drop this entire show by episode 2. I thought it would be too "girlish" for my liking since it deals with dolls, make-up, dress-up, and stuff like that. Boy was I completely wrong. "There is a wonderful heart-felt story with interesting character dynamics underneath this pile of fan-service" as I say while next to the complete manga set, plus a fanbook.
The main protagonist, Wakana Gojo (no not the Jujutsu Kaisen Gojo) deals with anxiety after being rejected by his childhood friend for liking/making Hina Dolls. Following his anxiety and his inability to adapt to current trends, he finds it hard to make friends. Until one day, a popular blonde gi…

I started my review of Ranma 1/2 with a warning and at least 1 exclamation point. In comparison, this makes Ranma 1/2 look like a children’s cartoon. When I say that I physically recoiled in shock at times I am not exaggerating. I didn’t know it was possible to be so..blatant and…out there? Honestly I don’t want to disgrace myself and go into real details, so this review will be pretty vague, but those who watch it will totally understand.
Dress up darling is one of the most popular slice of life anime’s of all time, and is certainly one of the most recognizable, entirely because of Marin. She herself is id say top 10 most recognizable characters in all of anime. At least in many of my circles. Still, I didn’t know what this show was about. I thought it just another typical romance with…

TL;DR: A humorous and visually polished romcom with strong cosplay elements, held back slightly by unexpected fanservice and a sadly forgettable soundtrack.
Score system: Scores start at 5/10 per category and are adjusted up or down before being rounded into the final rating.
While I would consider it a romance comedy first and foremost, the secondary tag is very much ecchi. If that isn’t something you’re comfortable with, this probably won’t be for you; and yes, it is very much focused on the male POV.
The story itself is fairly simple, but it’s consistently fun and carried well by the humour throughout. I mostly watched this passively on a second monitor, though it could easily hold your attention as a main-focus watch too. The animation is great, with a vibrant colour palette and plen…

Great rom-com that stands out from the rest by making their main characters individuals with their own lives and interests that happen to coincide and allow for each other to help each other out. On top of that, it's nice to see both main characters focusing on their hobbies and not just each other, unlike most rom-coms. It really makes the characters feel like their own person, and not just anime people that need to move the plot forward. This season was a bit tropey with how it went, but I still really liked it nonetheless and is a unique spin on rom-com.

"We've all got struggles," and my struggle is figuring out why this show gets so much hate. I know I'm a bit late to watching this, but honestly, it deserves way more praise than it does hate.
Yes, I’ll admit it does go a little overboard with the fan service at times and Marin can be pretty sexualised, but if you actually read the description — ecchi, slice of life, romance — it delivers exactly what it promises. You might find yourself wondering what you're watching during some scenes, but underneath all of that is a genuinely great story with strong character moments.
What really makes this show stand out is the relationship between Marin and Gojo. Watching Gojo grow more confident in his craft and seeing Marin support his passion for doll-making and cosplay is honestly wholesome and…

the only bad thing about this is the fact that kitagawa is not a real person, so minus 3 points
no jokes aside this anime is fine, its filled with fan service and it's honestly overwhelming most of the time. if you're able to look past that you'll find a unique plot (that unfortunately is explored too little) and tons of addictive chemistry between the two high school students. kitagawa's bubbly and energetic nature is what clearly carries this show even though a lot of the time she's over the top and completely unrealistic. It somehow still works.
it's most certainly not for everyone though

Not usually an ecchi person (I'm think this counts as a ecchi? No full blown nudity is shown but it is DEFINITELY sexual with a lot of fanservice, idk im not a fan of the genre so i could be wrong) but I actually enjoyed my dress up darling.
I liked both mcs a lot, Marin was fun and cute and stylish. I loved how much of an otaku she was and how passionate she was about her oshi. I also liked the mc Gojo, he wasnt an absolute panty peaking perv that you usually see in anime like this. He definitely gets aroused and is physically attracted to Marin, but he never pushes her boundaries or does anything weird like you usually see in fanservice anime. I loved how passionate he was as well, and how committed he was to making Marin's dream come true. I actually wanted to see these to happy toget…

My Dress-Up Darling is such a sweet romance series, with two incredibly likable leads.
First, you have Wakana Gojo, a reserved boy who loves crafting traditional Japanese Hina dolls. He is sensitive about his hobby being perceived as "girly," due to a childhood friend of his lashing out at him for it, and mostly keeps to himself and his dolls. This backstory, while simple, is used as a recurring theme in the series - of Gojo encountering many other characters who engage in "gender-transgressive" hobbies and activities, realizing that there's nothing wrong with him for his love of Hina dolls. Gojo's development is a major part of the series, and it's done masterfully.
Then, you have Marin Kitagawa, an otaku gal who's into anime, games, and (most importantly to this series) cosplaying. Whe…

This is the first anime I not only completed, but binge watched within a weekend back in mid 2024. I chose My Dress Up Darling because of Marin Kitagawa, and the charming love story it had. I would recommend My Dress Up Darling to those who want to start watching anime (unless you want to see the worst first and gradually watch better content), or watch something really wholesome if you're depressed and need comfort or feeling warm inside. It's eye candy and heart candy at the same time (without the negative side effects).
The relationship between Marin and Gojo is adorable, a cosplayer needing her tailor is a tale that fills my heart with joy and a sense of hope. It's a dream to have someone like Marin Kitagawa in our lives. Gojo's humility and craftsmanship earn him the right to have su…

TLDR: REALY nice anime, but this ending didn't need to be like that.
i had fun watching this, and even had some tears in my eyes from time to time.
Great story building (for the most part besides the useless filler episodes).
Characters are nice, and gojo is (while being your typical "oblivious - no clue what's going on here) character / mc, really well made out.
What i DO NOT like is this constant blueballing. This was a VERY disappointing ending?.
Like it took her 4 episodes to build up the courage to say something... and then she just doesn't.
The fact that she hasn't figured out after S1 that Gojo is SO OBLIVIOUS to the facts, is rather madning.
I can't lie, i haven't been disappointed in an anime ever at all. But today, i am SO DISSAPOINTED.
I feel like i'm telling my kids that…

At first, I didn’t expect My Dress-Up Darling to hit me this hard. I thought it would be a light romantic comedy, maybe enjoyable, maybe funny, but nothing more.
I was completely wrong.
This anime didn’t just entertain me, it made me feel good in a deep and sincere way. It gave me warmth, enthusiasm, and a sense of emotional comfort that is very rare to find.
What truly makes this series special is not only the romance, but how naturally and respectfully it is written. The relationship doesn’t rely on forced drama or cheap misunderstandings. Instead, it grows through shared passion, mutual curiosity, and genuine care. Watching the characters slowly open up to each other feels organic, human, and deeply satisfying.
Marin Kitagawa is an outstanding female lead. She is not just beautiful,…
