An anime packed with ecchi that feels almost like a hentai plot.
Hajimete no Gal is one of those anime that makes no effort to hide its main selling point. From the very first minutes, the show presents a massive amount of ecchi, to the point where the initial premise could easily belong to an adult-oriented title. The story begins with Junichi, a highly insecure boy who loses a bet to his friends. As a result, they challenge him to confess his feelings to Yame Yukana, a beautiful, popular gyaru who seems completely out of his league. What he doesn't expect is for her to actually accept his confession and start a relationship with him.
And all of this happens while the protagonist himself is more concerned with looking at her panties.

Hajimete no Gal is weird to critique. I have had a fair share of strange romance animes I've watched back in my day, yes I'm talking about Infinite Stratos. But this one is a lot stranger. It's more 'gal' centric and ten times more horny. There were some even western references in the English dub, which I watched. Even then, it still is just the most average shit I've watched.
It had some good moments like the male group and somewhat interesting female characters in the mix but nothing that is worth lamenting. I say it's weird to critique because the anime isn't supposed to be deep, in fact it's supposed to be goofy and over the top. Even then, the jokes didn't really land that well and sometimes it got too ridiculous to enjoy. It's the most ok show and I don't recommend it all.

I didn't mind this. It was cute and funny at points, but I didn't like the one friend being into basically lolis. Just a typical harem anime. The dub was funny but some of the stuff was cringe. I probably wouldn't watch it again. Yukana was the one I liked the most. The main character wasn't bad. I didn't like his stupid friends. This anime definitely isn't for everyone. Its not really unique, its easily skippable. I feel like most will have mixed feelings for this.
Its not one I would rewatch. I hated the one friend being into little kids, it was just gross. The way some of the girls talked were annoying.

Decent anime to introduce other anime watchers to the tag of "Gyaru" and this is something to take good note off because the basis of this review is that very note. One can look at our protagonists and envision a high school fantasy world where they can have more leverage over what they recieve for socialization, especially... a gyaru.

If you're like me, you probably decided to watch this show purely because of the sexy kogal on the cover. Rest assured, she is easily the best girl of this show and is every bit as bad as you're expecting, I just gave this show a 5/10 because it doesn't really try that hard, and it's not particularly memorable outside of the beautiful black queen and the startling number of jokes about pedophilia.
Those jokes, by the way, were probably the funniest part of this show and they only got funnier/more disturbing as the show went on. You wouldn't think a show about Gals would be so heavy with something so sickening and unrelated but I got some laughs out of it so I can't complain.

This is the perfect example of a bad show I enjoyed a lot. If you take it at face value, this is a reasonably cute short romance anime. But it suffers from, among many other things, an issue of perspective. We, the audience, can hear every one of Junichi’s thoughts. We hear him being gross and sincere, horny and romantic, stupid and thoughtful.
To us, he’s a fairly well rounded protagonist for the genre. But if you take even a second to think about how other people see him… woof. Junichi spends most of the show just gawking at beautiful women. We may hear him say something hilarious and sweet, but the girls around him just see a dude with a massive erection and his tongue fully dangling out of his mouth.

Depending on whether you watch the sub or dub of this show, you may actually enjoy it. To a degree.
Firstly, I love this anime. It has cute moments, nothing particularly aggravating throughout, and if you watched the dub- most of the irritating misdirects are played off into funny moments. Outlandish jokes a few times even, where it really gives the same energy as Ghost Stories.

Somewhat forgetable anime about a guy who manages to score a girlfriend whos a "Gal". The whole series basically centers around hoe he tries to loose his virginity to her and stuff that gets in the way with that. The dream sequences of the MC's inner selves arguing with themselves over if they should act horny or like an acutal loving boyfriend to his girlfriend.
Average animation, nearly forgetable characters. Still a somewhat decent watch for thoes who are bored enough to put on something in the background. I watched the sub for this though at the time so I had to actively watch it to understand what was going on in the plot.

This was an amazing anime, especially the English dub. Solid 10/10, the voice actors do everything they can to elevate the script and bring their own interpretation to the characters they are playing. From Alejandro Saab voicing the MC Junichi's multiple personalities and internal monologue, to Brad Smeaton doing the best Yoda, Rob Schneider, and Arnold Schwarzenegger impressions he has as the sidekick Shinpei, the English voice acting is top notch in this one. Jamie Marchi, who voices the female lead Yukana, also does a flawless "valley girl" impression and the other gyarus all have their own distinct personalities and vocal quirks.

The only thing I enjoy in this anime is the scene where the boys pretend to be soldiers.
But it's the same as other heroine gal stories where she turns out to be pure even though she dresses like a total *****. The story is very badly written, the reason why the heroine accepts MC is very unreasonable, the development of their relationship sucks, the conflict at the end of the story is also forced (seriously why did they add that douchebag).
Although there are some things that can be enjoyed, there are also many things that's unbearable to watch. But this is what you usually get in a title like this, I gave it a low score because there is nothing new to offer in this story. Don't waste your time, there are many more interesting gal titles.

I wanna start off with a quote from Teoman “ravend” Taşçı’s song “Amcık Mecnun Amcık Kerem” which contains lyrics that expresses my feelings for this anime pretty well. “Am I a faggot like Majnoun to die for a pussy? The dub had a lot of American internet culture weaved into it really nice, western accents, star wars, 2017 slang, and a bunch more.
The plot is alright, it's a loser virgin guy who gets with a popular "gal" and they pretty much hit it off from the start, a few more characters are added and they each get to have their time or times or shine.
The animation is mediocre, nothing great but also not noticeably bad.
The overall background characters are somewhat lacking, there is about 9 characters in the whole show, but seeing as the show only has 10 episodes, it's good to not overload the characters.

If you watch this you absolutely have to be watching the English Dub, hands down it is some of the funniest comedy in the anime world. the MC and his gang are all a bunch of perverted goofballs with some of the most hilarious inner monologue. Combine that with some nice pervy nonsense that is quite well animated and you have a fantastic show. Not only that but the main couple is actually really sweet and cute!

I had an overall good time watching. The story didn't feel any special compared to other romance and raunchy anime, but the unique characters helped to keep this show interesting enough to continue. However, with how much sexual content this anime revolves around HIGHSCHOOL characters, this would be one of the last shows I'd recommend to anyone who isn't acquainted to this perverted and raunchy side of anime. What really stole the spotlight was Funimation's English voice over. Hilarious dialogue with great deliveries from the actors made this C tier anime fun to watch. The animation appears alright, at times looking cheap.
