Skip Beat is a fun 25 Episode series, following the main character Mogami, as she discovers joy in acting, even though she only wanted to get into show business to get revenge on Shou, the guy she left home for and worked multiple jobs to support him in his goal of become a popular music star, but she also encounters Ren an extremely popular actor, at the same agency she joins, all the characters have great dynamics bouncing off each other and the events around them. While the show itself is from 2008, the English Dub is actually from 2016, as the result of a crowdfunded goal, the dub is great, and fits in with other dubs from around 2008, additionally it included English Versions of multiple songs from the show, which are honestly really good and i'd love to put them on my playlists, how…

This anime suprised me. I thought it would be more dumb and hallow, but Kyoko is both stupid and cute in a endearing way. I like the format of her trying to prove herself in the entertainment industry. And her dynamics with all of the characters is mature, funny and truthful. However, it lacks characters depth . The anime barely scratchs the surfaces of her past, her relationship with Fuwa and Fuwa himself. Even if he is an asshole, I felt like there wasn't enough story between them to engage with. Her entire life got changed by him and we get nothing for 10 episodes, and the 3 where they are the focus are so incredible good I don't understand why they didn't focus on more. Fuwa's dynamics with the industry (his rivalry with Ren, his flirting with his manager, his past with Kyoko) could…

This is one of the shoujo anime that I watched after being into shounen for so long and I have to say it doesn't disappoint! The main character, Kyouko, was a funny aspiring actress and made me want to see how far she would go after throwing away someone that didn't appreciate her. I was happy that she wasn't annoying and didn't go crawling back while giving up her dreams. She was very enjoyable and made me laugh throughout the series. There is some character development and things that are hinted at but never come to light in the anime so hopefully there are more details in the manga. It's nice to see her overcome trials even though not everything goes her way and how her passion for her craft grows even though initially it is easy to believe that she just chose any high up job for her re…

what i like about this show is from the eps 1 I'm already having fun and for me that's one of the most important part of a series is also when the MC captures your attention, the show gets you enough to ride along and wanting to know what's instore for the next eps. the development of the main character is well presented, also one of the things i like is the dynamics between the characters. but don't expect anything deep, it is a comedy drama and romance after all, simple and well made lite hearted and funny. if your wanting to see a journey of a persons struggle in life with alot of silliness and a some drama and romance well tiny bit of romance then i think you will enjoy this show

I think the humor here and growth of the MC were pretty great. It's one of the more creative series I've seen for presenting emotions in a way that really made them pop and made me laugh on many occasions. When this series was firing on all cylinders, it went hard, and there were a few episodes that really showcased Kyoko's ability to perform under pressure and produce something that looked pretty masterful, especially considering she's a novice to all this. When she is still struggling with her motivations and her choice to pursue acting in particular, the series is very strong. And many of the side characters facilitated both the humor and her growth well. There are two elements that hold this series back. The first is its romance. I think there could have been something interesting her…

If you've ever had someone betray you, or you are following your dreams, or you like slow-burn romance, this anime is for you! Yeah, kind of a weird combination, but this anime gives you both and it's AMAZING. It is such a relatable anime, but also inspiring, and I think everyone could get something from it. I also never really read manga, I've only read RELIFE because the anime was so good and I just had to read it. But this anime was so good that I feel I have to read the manga, so that says something! Story - 9 The story is really engaging and has so many fun plot points. I really loved seeing Mogami keep fighting again and again to get a step further in the acting industry. However, I give a 9 because I did think the music video arc was a bit too slow and drawn out, especially since…

***mixed review manga/series*** This is a pretty funny take on a shojo. I really like the comedy, which balances out the more 'mushy' parts of a traditional shojo. The main character has traits that make her strong and diverse while maintaining realism (ie she's "basic", not overly talented without hard work, clumsy but not a vapid airhead, etc.). There are some ~questionable takes in the series (ie age differences), but they are smoothed out really well by wholesome logic that keeps it realistic and not too icky. The only thing I didn't like was being left with a feeling of incompleteness. Whether it was part of a backstory, or part of a personality expression.. sometimes the writers did not explain something fully enough so your brain had to fill some things in. If you read the manga…

When it comes it shows that involve acting as a major component of a story, shoujo and generally, romance is the only formula that seems to work. I actually enjoy anime/manga that involve the showbiz, but very few actually catch my interest, since all of them end up being pretty bland and predictable. Carole and Tuesday? Just a scrambled mess of crappy characters and Mary Sues, with haphazard plot. I read Act-age just recently, and the same problem of a Mary Sue protagonist and a cast of side characters that the author tried too hard to be distinct and memorable, only to make it just that more hollow. What Skip Beat does, that these shows do not do, is making you attached to the main character. Mogami exudes personality. You see her jump start not just her career as an actor, but also he…

Where do I begin? Let's start off with visuals, and in this case, Skip Beat is a visual masterpiece. Now I know you may be looking at the cover and wondering if I'm blind or just simply under the influence. Short answer yes, long answer no. Anyways, the different colors, the way they are all designed, the clothing, the set pieces (you'll understand once you watch), etc scratched a part of my brain I thought was out of reach. Secondly, it was just so cute, very cute scene, cute MC, cute everything. Very enjoyable all around. I gave this anime a total of 8 because it is older, there are better ones, and sometimes it gets a little boring. Even so, I still recommend it!

I will forever love this anime. I watched it when I was just starting middle school and now I'm 21, and I still keep rewatching it. The manga is still ongoing and it's just so rich. I love the plotline, I love the characters and how they grow. I love Mogami and her determination. I just wish more people knew about this anime, and I really wish there was a new 2nd season or continuation of the anime. I truly believe this anime needs to be up to the hype again because it's better than most romance anime now in my opinion.

THIS is BARBIE again w another review First of all i thought this was a typical story without good representation of female character, but i'm glad this wasn't the case, we see our protagonist to work hard for her goals, and having a personality and developing good skills, fr this kind of story can be just writen, by a WOMAN, they don't even sexualize her or have uncomfortable touch with male protagonist This is a good and safe anime to watch for women, the op is so cute and inspiring, this should be the kind of anime people should make, inspiring ones, not over sexual kind ones. As I was saying, this anime is damn good fr, im following the manga now and i'm so captivated by the histroy, omg my feels!!!! MASTERPIECE

This series is the antithesis to Ai Yazawa's Nana! While Nana is a coming-of-age story about young adults pursuing their passions and having mature romantic relationships, Skip Beat is about Kyōko Mogami, a teenage girl who drops out of high school to get a full-time job, so she can simp for her childhood crush... and when he inevitably betrays her, her solution is... to stalk him and join the same talent agency, to get her revenge by becoming more famous than him! The premise is just as vapid as it sounds and while I occasionally like a nice romance anime to shut my mind off to, the narrative rolled along as sturdily as a flattened tire! ⚠️ This review of Skip Beat! will be spoiler-free ⚠️ —Story/Characters While I can perfectly understand why Kyōko would want revenge, it still boggles…

I’ve been seeing Skip Beat in the list of anime recommendations in my myanimelist account for quite a while now but I’m not sold just by looking at its cover photo. Then one day I saw a trailer of it in youtube and ended up liking it! And yep, you should never really judge a book by its cover, *wink. Story I love revenge plots. Even though I’m not a fan of showbiz romances or similar, I was surprised to find out how I am enjoying this anime. As early as its first episode, I was already laughing my heart out because it was so funny. Most revenge plots are cliché, but what I like about Skip Beat is that it will leave you laughing your heart out while at the same time cheering for the girl to go for it. And not just that, I also enjoyed the love-and-hate relationship between the two leads wh…

One of the best and most entertaining anime I have seen so far. The story is just great. Even though first episode was a bit wierd (not what I expected) but the story and great direction holds you till the very end. The art work is just great considering the year of release. One shouldn't compare the same with today's standards. The aound effects were just great. The dubbing is just perfect and clearly shows the efforts out by the voice actors in this show. The scenes were so convincing that for once I just forget that I was watching an anime. Generally I catch the sad emotions easily in an anime but the comedy or laughter scenes rarely affect me. But here, I was so engaged that I even laughed with the characters which may sound wierd (even for me) but that was the magic of the efforts…

I put this anime off for the longest time, but it isn't at all what I expected! After re-watching 5 years later, I still give this anime a 10/10! The art was really good but what I enjoyed most was the chibi-style drawings that emphasized the humour and the funny parts from the anime. I would've liked to see her take revenge on Sho and rise to a higher position, so in other words I would've wanted an OVA or another season so I could see how it ends. But that being said, we can tell that she would've gotten there eventually.

This is an underhyped gem. Silly, charming, and often hilarious, it gets an A+ in both content and execution. The plot revolves around a girl who, after ending a toxic relationship, swears revenge on her former love by entering show business. As she climbs her way to the top, she slowly rebuilds herself and regains her capacity to love. This is a character-driven story, and it is an absolute pleasure to watch mainly because of the main character, Kyouko. She’s soft when she understandably needs to be, strong when it matters, gradually evolving, and always amusing. She constantly lives in a state of make-believe where there are both fairies and vengeful grudge clones, resulting in some of the funnier scenes in the show. Because she’s recovering from an unhealthy relationship, the anime…

So funny and so entertaining. I return every few years to this classic because it is so easily digestable. Kiyoko, the bombshell with ginger hair and a hot pink uniform is a sight to behold. While the aesthetic sensibilities of this show aren't always too my tastes (what's with the 2 main guys having such long faces? Why does Tsuruga look late 20s when he's 20 years old etc), they are relatively standard shoujo fare. But, the art does works well as the vector for the bombastic comedy, with chibified chracters regularly popping up as an adorably hilarious excersion. Kiyoko is certainly the MVP in the comedy department and her reactions to the antics of those around her is regularly gold. It's only true sin in my eyes is that it finishes in the middle of an arc and doesn't provide a satisify…

Skip Beat! is very fun. Watching it, the show slowly cleansed away all the dirty substances I've gained from Clannad After Story. Making me feel more at ease as I advance throughout the show. Sadly, it ended as a cliffhanger. Resulting in the utmost of disappointment. But overall, the show was great and it does portray your typical drama romance anime. If I had to describe this anime, then I would describe it as "Bitches : The Anime". No offense or anything, but the majority of the female characters in the show does give off an awful lot of bitch vibes. As expected from a showbiz anime anyways? But I'm not really bothered by it. In fact, it was kind of entertaining. This show gives me the right amount of drama. Enough amount of romance and a little comedy that aren't funny at all but m…

I did not expect to love Skip Beat! as much as I did. It's the exact kind of hyperactive story with ridiculous characters that normally puts me to sleep. I was worried this was going to be a Chihayafuru all over again, but as it turns out, it's a Kare Kano! What a pleasant surprise. Sure, it's a shoujo manga and filled with the kind of stereotypes anyone would have come to expect of the genre having seen more than one of these anime, but it does such a good job making the interactions entertaining and extending the character development of all the important leads. I'm fine with archetypal characters, as long as they're more character than archetype, which is exactly what Skip Beat! has to offer. The thing about standard Shoujo MCs is that they're pretty much the same as standard Shounen M…
