I want to start this review by saying I am not a sports anime fan, and I don't think I will ever consider myself one. I've tried a couple before, but just couldn't get into them. I don't really like sports. Despite this, I think Blue Lock is a good watch. It comes off as a typical shlocky shonen from the outside point of view, but if you choose to engage with the themes the show is presenting, it has a lot of worthwhile things to dig into. Namely, it has themes of competition, and how that can bring things out in different people, how it affects their lives and what these things can mean. I think it does a good balance of being genuinely interesting to watch the themes unfold, whilst simultaneously being absolutely over the top at all times. It is very needlessly dramatic, but in a way I f…

I remember watching this anime and thoroughly enjoying it during the World Cup hype and it being insanely popular - in general I absolutely love sports animes as they really get you out of your seats with the tensions during the games - I loved the unique training being in door and a inside a centre but tbh I preferred rin over isagi because by the end it felt like rin actually earned being as good as he is trying to live up to his brother - on the other Hand with isagi it felt as if he was progressing purely because of plot and had a lot of plot armour - I also wasn’t to fond of the supernatural type of ability’s and how they were shown in the anime as it took away from the actual football feel - overall though I thought the season was pretty good

Why is Blue Lock so great? There are a lot of reasons in my opinion. As an adult who is an avid soccer fan irl, I love Blue Lock. Here are some reasons why you may like Blue Lock too.
I only recently started watching a lot of anime. Blue Lock was one of the first things I watched. Because of that, I have waited to write this review until I had watched a lot more including more sports anime.
My first takeaway and the number one reason I love Blue Lock is that the stakes are real. It is not just another high school tournament. The World Cup is the most watched sporting event in the entire world. Only 8 countries have ever won. In the 2026 World Cup, 48 teams qualify. The World Cup is every 4 years and there have been 22 of them total. The want, need, and desire for a country to win the W…

If you typically avoid Sports titles due to the extremely earnest and motivational tone or low-stakes tension, Blue Lock is surprisingly different.
Blue Lock stands out from most sports anime by centering its story on psychology, ambition, and rivalry instead of teamwork or comforting friendship. Even if you don't know anything about sports (I sure don't), this show's' structure and clearly defined rules make the tension easy to follow. The focus is on character identity, status, and the pursuit of becoming Japan’s number one striker in soccer. What stood out to me is how it handles failure. Losses have consequences without locker room humor, and the competition remains intense without slipping into cruelty. Strategy and rapid self-improvement drive the drama and action across matches.…

A characteristic, egoistic anime of soccer, filled with fleshed out character and hype moments, unfortunately smeared by a disturbing stain.
Blue Lock is a story of 300 strikers, going through an elimination training facility to find the best, most 'egoistic' striker.
The character writing is one of the strongest points of the anime. Each character is uniquely vibrant, with their personality, ability, motivation, and development. You can root for any character. You can resonate with any character. Everyone gets their time to shine, and no one feels just like a background character. You grow to truly understand each of their unique takes on football.
The anime takes great strides to ensure the football in the anime is technical and dramatic. Even as someone unfamiliar with the sport, I w…

To be honest, this anime is a disaster, even worse than a disaster—it's just a disgusting anime built entirely on ego and football.
Story:
Isagi is someone interested in football, and one day he's called somewhere, and there are 300 people invited. There are games.
Just by looking at this much, you can already understand why I hate this anime. There is no such thing as a story, it's just ego, competition, and football. Even if you're into football, the story might seem okay at best and you could give it 6/10, but character development is 0, there is no message at all. So why does ego and competition hype this anime up so much? It's probably just because small kids are into it (I'm not saying the fans are small, I mean the general audience). So even if I liked football, I would still give i…

This was honestly the last anime I ever expected to watch, mainly because I’m probably the biggest football hater alive. I avoid football like the plague. But then they announced it would be shown in cinemas here, and I randomly stumbled across the manga… and it actually didn’t look that bad. So I gave it a chance. And honestly? They did a really good job with the production. The animation is clean, the intensity is insane, and the whole concept is super original. Even though I still hate football with my entire soul, the idea behind Blue Lock is so wild and psychological that it completely pulled me in. I’ll admit it, I enjoyed the manga more than the anime, so I’ll probably stick with that. But I still finished all 24 episodes, mainly because of my absolute favorite: Bachira. He carried…

A show about where 300 teenagers with untreated mental illnesses are locked in a facility to play soccer and hallucinate about ego.
That line pretty much sums up the experience i had going into this. Blue Lock takes a solid concept and cranks it up to 100 part sports anime, part philosophical breakdown. It’s ridiculous, loud, but undeniably entertaining for some reason
1. Characters
A mixed bag. Some feel genuinely interesting Bachira, Rin, and Nagi stand out with their unique styles and personalities while others sound like motivational quotes with legs. Most are fun, but very few feel human. These 3 were my favs.
2. Animation
Probably the weakest aspect. The CGI feels janky and out of place, often breaking immersion during intense scenes. The 2D cuts look great, but the inconsistenc…

Yeah yeah whatever it is a good sports anime, especially the first episode I think does a really good job and hooking you and the characters are likeable; basically there's nothing inherently wrong about this anime and I did enjoy watching it, also the fact that this anime aired during the World Cup 2022 was just divine intervention. I even read on into the manga which didn't disappoint , but the anime does not do the manga justice because the manga is just insanely well drawn- it’s literally art. The panels are mind blowing and Nagi’s character is remarkably well done but BRO please tell me why the budget for the animation was like 5$ and also sometimes they're just making too big of a deal out of FOOTBALL like "Have you ever played football with your life on the line??" like just pass th…

A show that can only be described as a guilty pleasure. A fantastical showcase of what the sport is and could be. Filled with characters and a story with little depth that somehow still manages to pinpoint that part of your brain that enjoys watching. The biggest letdown being knowing what Blue Lock could be given the right amount of passion and backing. And while personal enjoyment is important, that doesn’t mean the glaring problems and botched production can be ignored. We can only hope that someday justice is done to a series that greatly deserves a proper shot at being something great.

blue lock is an anime that takes its premise very seriously. that's really the most important thing to know before going into it. when a character bullshits, they are fully committing to the bit. the monster inside bachira is real. isagi really can smell a goal from 10 miles away. the characters are completely, 100% serious about whatever bullshit jinpachi gives them, and it works. what we have is a show that takes the training arc trope, flips it on its head, beats it to death with a frying pan, and finally punches it back to life anew - with a new ego if you will. blue lock is an extended training arc of an anime with the premise and violent tension of a battle royale, the gambling instincts of something like liar game, and trigger-happy hype that blasts you in the face like an unhinged…

Blue Lock throws you into a world where soccer isn’t about teamwork but crushing others to rise above and embracing that philosophy with full confidence. The series unfolds as an intense, high-stakes sports narrative that merges psychological drama, competition, and the pursuit of individual ambition within a team context. The story begins in the aftermath of Japan’s disappointing performance in international football. In response, the Japanese Football Association launches the Blue Lock program, a radical training facility designed to cultivate the country’s ultimate striker. Only one player can emerge as the nation’s top forward, and the program’s philosophy “ego is king” forces participants to prioritize individual scoring prowess. The narrative centers on Yoichi Isagi, a talented but i…

A Sports Anime focusing on different themes than more established predating anime like Inazuma Eleven, Kuroko No Basket and Haikyu! This Anime focuses on ways to get stronger through more individualistic means, where the key focus is on Ego. This anime, does portray Ego in a unique way and communicates it quite well through the show. It features as a central theme yet it is not shoved in your face at all times. If you knew nothing about Football, or Soccer, then this may be a little less enjoyable show as it hits a different audience and may discourage you but if it catches your attention, then it explains concepts much better later on in the season.
The anime does try to become more flashy as the characters evolve within the anime through various struggles and the development of the MC i…

To me Blue Lock is the Solo Leveling of sports anime.
"What do you mean by that?" you may ask. Well, similarly to Solo Leveling, the main reason people like Blue Lock isn't because of its great plot or complex characters. The main factor of enjoying Blue Lock is just that: enjoying Blue Lock. Meaning that it's simply fun to watch the challenges and games the players take part in. I found myself enjoying this aspect of the series, even if I don't necessarily like it as a whole.
The problems of the series tho... I can't say they are few and far between. I would say literally everything else except for its enjoyment level is average at best.
The characters are okay. They might be a tad shallow, but you wouldn't expect them to be anything more anyway.
The plot is simple amd isn't even bad:…

This is my favorite anime about sport. I don't play football or have any interests in that sport BUT the way the anime showed it, made it sounds like it was something amazing. However, it only looks appealing to me thanks to Blue Lock. I LOVED HOW WE LOVE EVERY CHARACTERS AND CANNOT chose who is going to be the best striker in the world. Every characters has something really different. My favorite characters is Sae, but I also like his younger brother Rin, I think the whole story is also really symbolic as it also shows the dynamics btw ambitions, dreams, mental health, family matters, etc... I strongly advised to watch this one. I even bought the manga because the anime didn't filled the void in me, I could not wait another season. ALSO, I WAS REALLY INTO EVERY MATCHES, I was cheering as…

One of the best anime I've ever watched, this is highly recommended for anyone who either likes sports especially football, I know most people hated on this one but I really don't know why, It's just so good! This is the first anime I've ever watched and one of my few 10 on 10's I feel like this is just a little bit too underrated.... The story was really.... unique although it was predicable and unpredictable at the same time, means some plots are really predictable while others, not so much....
In Conclusion: Recommended for people who likes sports especially football

It's fun to see a show admit you have to be an egotistical bastard at times.
I'm tired of battle royale's, man. I've seen the tropes. How characters unite in the most unlikely ways. The empathetic main character, or the morality at play when put against people who could be good. Rarely done with nuance, and I'll admit, this one gets pretty close to being great, but I really couldn't take it seriously.
Battle Royale, but with soccer. You got monsters who can level the playfield, you've got the underdogs, the great prospects, and our protagonist who is very much a nobody in a sea of potential nobodies. He's gotta climb his way through, alright, sure, fine. I went along with it, and took what was essentially 24 episodes of what I can only describe as an author holding back.
Be it the sl…

Frankly speaking, I do not know what the hype is all about for this anime series. There is not much going on other than a bunch of frenzied "strikers" throughout the whole show trying to outdo one another. Actual matches with normal players are pretty much non-existent.
Next, I need to talk about the art. The eyes! Why? Why do the characters look like they are in a permanent state of shock the whole time? Also, some of those eyes gave me the heebie-jeebies more than most horror shows did. I hated how they creeped me out while watching, and it was really a major distraction.
There is also so much internal monologue! If there isn't so much of that, I am quite sure the whole series could have been done within a twelve-episode run. It has been exhausting having to sit through a few minutes o…

I started this show in 2023, I felt it was mildly interesting for the first four episodes, with the new concept of egoism while playing football catching my attention as I was a football player myself. It was at episode 5 when I actually got hooked. And now it has become my most favourite anime series of all time. I highly recommend it, especially if you play football.
What also stood out was its unpredictable twists and it is very hard not to tap on the "Next Episode" button.
The art style was great for the first 10 episodes but then it starts going a bit downhill but still is very enjoyable.
The characters are all really memorable and you start to root for many of them.

A really interesting sport anime. The characters decide what are they willing to sacrifice in order to reach their goal. But sacrifices is not enough.
The character's development is really interesting and not always positive. I liked that it was not always rainbows and butterflies and that they showd the characters struggles and internal dilema. I found it somewehat realistic in a way and that makes the plot more surprizing.
To me, it is as good as Haikyu!! and Kuroko's Basketball, but the animation are way better and that is what makes it standout.
I really enjoyed watching it and looked forward to the airing of season 2.
