One Outs

Introduction

Toua Tokuchi is a prodigy when it comes to both baseball and gambling. Pitching nothing but mediocre fastballs, he has made a name for himself by attaining 499 consecutive victories in the game of One Outs: a one-on-one showdown between a pitcher and a batter. Despite his remarkable abilities, however, Tokuchi sees the sport as nothing more than a way to make some quick money. When Hiromichi Kojima, a legendary hitter for the struggling Saikyou Saitama Lycaons, witnesses Tokuchi's skills firsthand, he realizes that the man might be exactly what the team needs to get out of their slump. Determined to recruit Tokuchi no matter what, Kojima places his own career on the line and defeats Tokuchi at his own specialty—One Outs. Forced to become a Lycaon, Tokuchi soon finds himself at odds with the team's owner, Tsuneo Saikawa. After Saikawa refuses to give him a reasonable salary, Tokuchi proposes a special contract: pitching an out will earn him five million yen, but giving up a run will cost him fifty million. With every game having the potential to either make or break him, Tokuchi must outwit all who stand in his way. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This is a great show but suffers from lack of stakes for me. The fun of the show is not the question of who will win, but rather how Tokuchi will get out of the shitty situation he is thrust into. This is a sports anime where the other teams cheat, or at the very least use unorthodox strategies that feel like cheating, and Tokuchi, the protagonist, is forced to come up with a strategy to get out of the situation he is thrust into. The owner of the team takes an antagonistic role, preying on Tokuchi's downfall in order to maximize profit (which, as a Cubs fan, feels all too real) so it does a great job of making it feel like the odds are stacked against Tokuchi at all times. The baseball is fun and feel realistic, and I appreciate that the strategies feel like real things that could happen…

If you're searching for a series that will completely subvert your expectations, you must watch One Outs. I watched it in September 2025, and it stands out as a truly unique experience. The animation quality is great, surprisingly holding its own—and even surpassing—many anime made after 2010. The story is where this show truly shines. Is it unique? Absolutely. It’s far from predictable; you’ll find yourself having to think through the complex strategies or be left completely surprised by the clever twists. This isn't just about baseball; it's a high-stakes game of psychological warfare that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well-rounded and compelling. While their strengths and weaknesses can feel somewhat unbalanced at times—especially with an unusually intelli…

I'm not going to sugarcoat it. I love this show. This was my first rewatch after initially watching it many years ago. It's clear why that's the case. It's one of a kind in a few ways. First of all, let's talk about the animation style. It's definitely kind of old, kind of cheap, but you know, pretty average for the time. So why is it unique? I'm afraid that even the mediocre animation style will never be replicated in modern times. That's because people really think that slapping crappy low polygon CGI models of infielders and outfielders on the field is more cost effective than just doing what this show did: reusing animation frames and doing a lot of close ups. Think about it: despite the show having a lot of closeups of people picking up the ball, catching it, or hitting the ball, the…

A Baseball-themed Seinen explores the side of corruption within sports. Unfortunately, there are problems with excessive protagonism, which are apparently invincible, the opponents that appear even face him, but the protagonism still exists. Apart from this criticism, it is a good anime and presents good strategies, the character Tokuchi Toua presents good escapes from the traps and dirty games that exist in Baseball, the dialogues of psychological destruction are intense. It has good art, despite the time, the characters are very caricatured and have unique features. The story of the anime, unfortunately, is not complete. After finishing episode 25, the story ended at the beginning of the championship, I believe that the manga has a complete revelation.

Just finished the last ep and I am writing this review. First of all the Opening, Ending songs and even the soundtracks are sooo good. If you are tired of watching new gen animes, One out's soundtrack will feel refreshing to you as it's so unique and suits the anime theme. I won't fully recommend this anime if you only came to watch a sports anime. I mean it is a sports anime but the one and only attraction and focus of this anime is definitely Tokuchi Towa. You will get hyped because of him and will enjoy the whole anime because of him. If you like outsmarting or manipulative characters then you will definitely enjoy this. I love tokuchi towa because unlike other outsmarting manipulative characters you can actually see Tokuchi towa finding problems in an ongoing match and will face the pr…

One Outs is all about one man, Tokuchi Toua. Without him the whole show and premise wouldn't even exist. He specializes in pitching in baseball and specifically in a little betting version of the game titled one outs. Basically, he can take more or less anyone on in a 1v1. That is until one day he gets his one and only loss against a professional player and instead of getting his hand broken as the agreed price, he agrees to help the Lycaons baseball team achieve the championship. However, the owner of the team isn't so happy in getting a shady gambler who demands an absurd salary join his team so he suggests his own terms in the special contract between them. So we have a corrupt manager who would rather see his own team lose if it means Tokuchi doesn't win all so that he can get Tokuchi…

I just watched this in 2023 and I must say that this is the most underrated anime I have ever seen!! Such a shame that they only made one season. I love the fact that this feels from another era. The characters drink alcohol and smoke. You don't see this anymore in today's animation (not that I agree with those habits, I personally don't do neither of those) If you are looking for a charismatic hero and some witty content, give this a try. I only give it a 9/10 since the art style of the main character could have been a bit better.

I don't think there is any better show the encompasses an 8/10 better than this. This show EXCELS in certain aspects, but fails in others quite harshly. The setup of this show (non spoiler, revealed in ep1) is that the MC is a pitcher who lacks the raw skill a pro athlete would have but is very strategic and intelligent. he's able to read the emotions of the people he's batting against and pitch based off that, along with some other tricks which I won't get into (he also lives to gamble, super rational, never takes anything seriously etc.). Now, anybody who plays baseball is probably going to call bs on this, because it is. There's no way someone who exclusively pitches 70mph fastballs could strike out pros non-stop, but he does, and once you get around the basic assumption (which you wil…

"A low possibility means it's not zero" - Tokuchi Toua These words have single handedly become the greatest driving factor for some of my biggest life decisions. This has to be my pick for greatest sports anime I have ever watched of all time. Ironically, it isn't really about the sports. Nor is it about teamwork or flashy super techniques. It's the story of absolute domination of a man of many mysteries, Tokuchi Toua, so far above his compatriots that if he was playing basketball even the 1992 Dream team would not even be able to stop him. Whatever you yourself think about Toua, you cannot deny his wisdom or his ability. In some occasions his words have become somewhat of a guiding principle for me. Even if you by some miracle figure out that this man is going to pull himself out of any…

Story 9/10 Don't be fooled if you think that this would be a normal baseball anime with just good action scenes, exciting team plays, and emotional "Let's aim for the championship" scenes. Hiding behind this facade is the psychological warfare the main character has with each and every one of his opponents, reading their minds and bending them to his will. Watching Tokuchi using his wits all while playing within the rules of baseball and the ridiculous contract he signed with the main antagonist of the series will keep you off your seats when he pulls off unthinkable plays. Although the story is still basically about winning every game and aiming for the championship, the process and tactics used are extremely satisfying to watch. Art 7/10 For an anime in the 2000s, I do not have any…

(Spoilers) One Outs was a really great anime. It is about baseball but there are many great things though out this show that just makes it amazing Story 8/10- The story will really good it was about how a team in baseball aren't doing great and are falling in ranks until they meet the main character whos a gambler and amazing pitcher whos never lost a game of one outs which kinda similar to baseball but with only one pitcher and one batter. He joins the team and he's immediately helping his team grow through the ranks but he before does join the team, he makes a bet with the owner of the team and this makes the story even better Art 7/10- The art was ok, I liked the style for this anime and the main character kinda reminds me of Hisoka from hunter x hunter. There was nothing bad I would…

So when I first watched the first I think one or two episodes of this anime I thought why tf does this have such a high rating. But I ran out of anime and I decided to try it again and WOW I WAS BLOWN AWAY! If you find it boring after the first 3 episodes don't give in and keep on watching it trust me you'll suddenly find yourself binge watching it. It got to the point where I had to read the manga simply because I couldn't find an anime with a mc as amazing as toua. And I literally never read manga it's the only one I ever finished diligently, but I wish it was animated tbh. Idk what you were expecting from my review but this is a pretty amazing anime so just watch it. If you're worried about my taste in anime I'll just list a bunch I like and don't like. Three top tier (shounen genre…

Oh, man! What a ride 'One Outs' has been. Unlike the psychological thrillers Death Note, Code Geass, and Monster, which are all phenomenal stories, One Outs is a breath of fresh air. From its remarkably written plot, mind games, soundtrack, and animation, the show is just incredible. It is psychological warfare at its finest. The quote "Nobody wins, but I" is the premise of what is one of the finest seinen in history. Baseball is just the backdrop of the series. The elemental quality of One Outs is the viewer's perception as to what it means to win. In retrospect, Tokuchi from One Outs is analogous to Yagami Light or Lamperouge Lelouch. However, from my perspective, why Death Note and Code Geass are so beloved is because we saw the intellectual battle between Kira and L and Lelouch a…

One outs is an amazing anime and I seriously recommend it to anyone thinking of watching THIS IS MY FIRST REVIEW Story: The story is basic and the overall outcome of what happens is pretty predictable but what makes it good is how Tokuchi achieves that outcome Art: For when this anime was made I think the art is very nice, the angles when Tokuchi throws pitches and the camera focuses of him are very nice Sound: One Outs has one of my favorite openings and the soundtrack is very enjoyable Character: Tokuchi is probably one of if not my favorite character he is amazing at the role he plays. I also really like his character design (the way he looks) I think it makes for one of the coolest characters. Enjoyment: I found myself getting more engrossed with this anime the longer I watched,…

So one outs is the story of a man getting into the professional baseball. But this is if anything a typical sports manga. One outs is in itsself a really unique genre combining the mind games as in deth note, code geass as well as a independent sports anime on its own.The best elements of the series comes from the main protagonist. As not a big baseball fan I always thought that the game was pretty much hitting the ball and running along with the usual set of rules in the game. But as light yagami exploited each rule in the death note,Tokuchi(our main guy) exploits each nd every rule.If you like really badass mc who solves his problem using his wits alone you will surely love the series. The only problem I had with the adaptation was that we never got a season 2 :(

Honestly, I doubted whether to watch it or not; however, I searched on the net whether it is worthy or not, I read many reviews and gained insight, so I decided to watch it before reading the manga. After three days, I finished both anime and manga; I could say that it is a masterpiece. Tokuchi Toua is the character that lives up beyond the expectation of the readers and viewers. He became a respective person in the field of Baseball and put his gambling skills to use. It shows how excellent he is. Also, for the appearance, he is charismatic, which leads you to focus on him from the beginning to the end. He sort of a mysterious person. Honestly, I could only think a positive about him immensely how he contributes many things to his teammates. You can even compare the growth as a team and a…
