I've come to realize that I kind of do like this format. The story isn't anything to write home about. It's pretty simple. However, it's an entire story jammed into one episode rather than stretched into 12. So even if you don't like it, it's not much of a sunk cost. This one deals with an interesting aspect of human relationships in general, not just romantic ones.
Sunohara is good just like in the other special. Tomoya acts like himself. If there was a weakness, it would be that the story isn't really deep or special. However, you can't expect much from just a singular episode. It's alright, but I gave it an extra point because I only needed to commit 20 minutes.

Well hello there, fellow anime enthusiasts! Today, I bring to you my review of Clannad: Mou Hitotsu no Sekai, Tomoyo-hen. And let me tell you, it's a wild ride that's worth the watch.
Let's start with the story. It's engaging, heartwarming, and a bit of tear-jerker. The character arcs are well-developed, and the pacing is just right. It's not too slow, nor too fast. It's like the Goldilocks of anime storylines.
Now, let's talk about the three main characters. Tomoyo, Tomoya, and the dango. Yes, you read that right. The dango is a main character in my book. Anyway, Tomoyo is a total badass, Tomoya is a relatable protagonist, and the dango... well, the dango is just adorable. These three characters have fantast…

This is how romance anime should be made. Clannad is one of the best romance of all time, and whether you like it or not you can't deny the impact that After Story had on many people, myself included. But if everyone has already heard about Clannad After Story, too few talk about this alternative version where Tomoya Okazaki is not dating Nagisa, but Tomoyo Sakagami, this model student, strong and determined to save the cherry trees in front of the school. Clannad being at the base a visual novel where according to our choices we had the possibility to go out with different characters, the main series was centered on Nagisa's path, and Tomoyo unfortunately had the right to only one 24 minutes episode... and in 24 minutes, KyoAni still knew how to create a complete, coherent, deep and touch…

This was a weird one. An adaptation of an alternate story route from the visual novel where he ends up getting together with the white hair girl.
Don't get me wrong, I like her character fine, but it kind of feels like a knife in the heart for Nagisa. Guess she just gets to die alone having lived an unfulfilled life. But don't worry, white hair girl got to keep the sakura trees from being torn down.
Personally I follow the first girl best girl way of thinking, whoever makes the first move or whoever protagonist makes the first move on is the girl I'm going to root for 99% of the time. I don't have the patience or energy to care about side girls, or any hypothetical universes where they might have ended up with protagonist-kun. It's exhausting and this OVA did nothing for me. If you're a…

A must watch for Tomoyo, Tomoya and Clannad fans alike.
Tomoyo's ending is personally my favourite ending in Clannad as she's by far my favourite character from the series, and her ending absolutely does her justice.
Negatives:
Personally this anime adaptation was flawless for an anime only viewer. Establishing what it needed to for people new to Tomoyo's relationship with Tomoya. However, there are a couple scenes from the visual novel that would have improved this OVA even if they were just mentioned. However considering the time constraint of one episode for this route's ending, it's understandable why they went with what they did.
Positives and why this is one of my absolute favourites:
So personally, before I watched this, I had only gotten the other ending with Tomoyo in the visua…

I think I understand why this is rated lower than the original. I don't think it should be, but I understand. Clannad was just "fine" in my opinion, but I actually really liked the special. It solved a few of the problems I had with the original, although I don't think its perfect.
[spoilers]
As far as the story goes, I think overall its better, but it comes with some downsides. The main gripe I have with it, and the reason that I imagine its rated worse than the original, is that it is obviously underdeveloped compared to the arcs in the original, which is to be expected. Other than that I think its way better. It doesn't have the kind of lame nervous "um... uh... can I uh... hold your hand?" kind of love that I'm kind of tired with. It feels a lot more like a romance, and I like it. Bu…

This is the only OVA I've ever written a review about, so it shouldn't be surprising that I have rated it with a 10/10. Actually, almost every special episode has one single purpose: To the audience a little more time to spend with their favorite characters.
But this OVA sure is a masterpiece, the reason being that it covers everything a 2-hour-long movie covers in an unrushed way. I have watched Charlotte, and I already know how bad it can be when you rush everything and put lots of content in one single episode. But Tomoyo-hen is different.
You can feel how good the pacing is, the suspension is, the chemistry between the characters is, and that final blow of the ending. When they started with that joke thing, we already know it is really going to happen, but everything was slowly paced…

Good God, writing a review 3 years after seeing it might not be a good idea, however I remember it impacting me heavily when I saw it for the first time. To be honest, the original series was not a huge standout in my opinion. I actually watched this before Clannad, but after Clannad -after story-. Contrary to what some might believe, I felt like it made the both of these better. I remember the ending of the OVA as something that almost made me cry, which was the first time that have happened at the time.
Story: The relationship between Tomoyo and Tomoya is cute, so when the ending hits it felt like a huge blow to me.
Art: I mean, this is from 2008, but it definitely not the worst. If comparied to series of same age, this rating would be a lot higher.
Sound: The score is not my style, b…

I gave this a 9 personally since Tomoyo is best girl, but as a more objective review I'm giving it an 8.
Great OVA, I enjoyed it, but it was over too quickly for it to impact me. Tomoya didn't really feel like the Tomoya we know and love, but this could be thanks to Tomoyo's influence as his girlfriend. The only emotional moment for me was when 'Snowfield' started playing... but that's just my PTSD kicking in from After Story...
This episode explains a bit what happened in the time where Tomoyo was Student President and what it asked from her. It's impressive, she's quite the enduring girl. It also tells us a bit more about Tomoyo's personality, wich is really welcome.
I saw this as the last episode in my Clannad experience, and I'm glad I ended it here. It was quite the ride. Now onto…

I simply loved it! Like, As far as I can see Tomoyo's character is much better than Nagisa. After all, what is good about Nagisa anyway. She is a crybaby, is dumb/ slow on the uptake, and is "too kind" up to the point that it's simply stupid. For me, Sakagami, Kyo or Ichinose are better than her. And, Ya, they could have portrayed everything a bit better if they took 2 episodes and maybe could have added a more elaborate ending. But, They did the best to nail a completely different story in one episode. And of course, Now I love Tomoyo's character the most.
Just give it a go.
Thank u!

Overall: 9/10
If you wanna play the Visual Novel but only want to do Tomoyo's route, then go do her route up until April 25 and then watch the special episode, finally go back to the Visual Novel if you want more plot and character development.
Props to KyoAni to utilizing the best aspects and trimming parts of Tomoyo's route from the visual novel to make a fantastic emotional roller coaster.
Tomoyo is very relatable for a lot of people, and their character development feels natural and human.
The art is still amazing and the soundtrack really helps at driving home the emotions to your heart.

"We were close with someone really amazing, weren´t we?"
We´re here to celebrate Sakagami Tomoyo.
After Clannad 1st season ended, the team decided that people should see more of what the game offered. This time around, Nagisa is pratically non-existant and Tomoya ends up having a relashionship with Tomoyo. This, is the Tomoyo route. Per usual, Clannad shows its best aspects here. Despite being one episode, it shows everything people love about this show: the "feels"/drama. However, its not perfect. Some scenes don´t make sense*(SPOILERS, you have been aware.) and i belive this OVA needed a follow up; it wasn´t really that developed in my opinion. Nonetheless, its melancholic, specially the ending where the episode shines the most. Expect a few tears on your eyes because the sakura tr…

TL;DR Review:
Story - 8: Story based on sacrifices due to pressures of society. Well executed which made for an intriguing story.
Art - 8: Pretty good animations for its time. It was somewhat fluid and pleasing to look at. I expected less, but it was surprisingly well done.
Sound - 10: This may be biased. But I have always enjoyed Clannad's OSTs. Always placed well and sounds amazing. Also memorable for the subsequent times.
Character - 8: Solid characters, there wasn't the greatest amount of development which would make sense for a special of this length.
Enjoyment - 8: Very good watch.
Overall - 8.4 (8) Full Review (Spoilers):
I have watched this a while ago, but since I have rewatched this earlier, I felt I should do a review on this.
People sacrifice things. Sometimes on a personal s…

First of all i want to say that i save this OVA for the last(save the best for the last is what they say after all :D ) I watch it the last because tomoyo is my favorite heroine in the franchise/series. Secondly i want to say that this review might contain some spoiler but i'll make it less as much as possible and rephrase it.
Story: A question love or dreams? you might find yourself asking this question before but what will it be? upon watching this OVA it shows the importance of sacrifice in a relationship sometimes you need to go far away from the person you love the most in order for them reach their dreams, sometimes you need to hurt that very person you hold dear just because you want that person to reach higher bars and fulfill their dreams to the point you end hurting yourself, bu…

This is a masterclass secondary work. Any piece of art that does not create its own universe has the troublesome task of adding onto the established story and world in a meaningful way without defacing the original work. There are a few methods to do that, but my favorite is to recontextualize the original.
By changing a few parts, the original which you loved suddenly has a different meaning and the full emotional impact of that is felt immediately. The value of recontextualization can only be felt if you care about the original. If you enjoyed Clannad, the anime, to any degree, then it is worth your time to watch this. If you didn't care about the original, you probably won't care about this. However, it may still be worth your time if you enjoy creating or critiquing stories because th…

I just finished Clannad and was wondering what all the fuss was about and then I saw this. Wow. This short episode was everything I’d been told Clannad was: powerful, affecting, emotional. This time Okazaki’s love interest is not Furukawa but Tomoya, the student council president. She’s a girl with a grand future ahead of her and everyone knows it. And for that reason Okazaki’s delinquent nature and lack of real direction are an anvil around her neck. He’s wrong for her and he knows it. He’ll just be dragging her down into the inevitable mediocrity of his life. And what a struggle life is when love isn’t enough.
This is a story that truly works. The love story has genuine obstacles. It’s a difficult path to follow filled with heartache and self-doubt. What is the right thing to do here? I…

If one episode could outdone the main love story, Clannad: Tomoyo Arc did it exceedingly well.
Having seen the entire episode of Clannad I daresay this OAV episode is by far the best one. The “alternate” ending provided far more character growth and it managed to give powerful emotions within the two main characters. I like how it showed the contrast between Tomoyo and Tomoya of two opposite pair who fell for each other while the circumstances around them jeopardizes their relationship. I thought it was brilliantly written. I couldn’t help but to symphatize with their circumstance.
But anyway. This episode is such powerful and heartfelt that it’s much more memorable than the entire Clannad story.
The confrontation at the end is written beautifully, wonderfully animated and just the rig…

Clannad: Mou Hitotsu no Sekai, Tomoyo-Hen takes an interesting approach at the alternate universe of Clannad, where a different girl has the key to our main character's heart.
I found this short story to be very well written, but ultimately too short to really show you what would happen in this alternate universe. Obviously it felt somewhat rushed, as expected of a single episode trying to capture an entire route of a visual novel, but it did manage to give you some of the feels the original Clannad is so good at.
It is definitely worth a watch if you enjoyed Clannad, I would personally recommend to watch it after After Story, since you will not feel as if you're breaking up the original story line, but it doesn't matter too much.
Very impressive for a single episode, and therefore wor…

Wow!
I went into this with no feelings. I started out with negative ones as soon as I saw that Okazaki was cast in a relationship with Sakagami. But all of that changed.
This was, without a doubt, one of the best pieces of anime I have ever watched. The emotion was incredible, the music's sync was amazing, and most important of all, the story was perfect. In the beginning, it is extremely apparent that the protagonists care deeply for each other. Yet, in an instant their relationship is severed. For a period of five minuets, the show plays with our brains. Are they still in love, or are they not? All indications show that Okazaki has left Sakagami, but at first it is obvious that she still cares. However, later, she appears to ignore him.
All of this is ended however during the last sc…

Clannad: Mou Hitotsu no Sekai, Tomoyo-hen in a word: NotClannad
All this is an alternative reality with the characters. It doesn't give more to the main story of Clannad and Clannad After Story. If you have played the visual novel you might enjoy it more than I did, but I didn't gain anything from watching it.
The art was good, the characters were their usual selves, but I adore the relationship between Nagisa and Tomoya and their relationship wasn't the focus of this story. So I kind of checked out on it.
If you want to watch it, just to see the Clannad characters back in action, go for it, but I will probably never rewatch it.
