Classroom of the Elite

Classroom of the Elite

Introduction

On the surface, Koudo Ikusei Senior High School is a utopia. The students enjoy an unparalleled amount of freedom, and it is ranked highly in Japan. However, the reality is less than ideal. Four classes, A through D, are ranked in order of merit, and only the top classes receive favorable treatment. Kiyotaka Ayanokouji is a student of Class D, where the school dumps its worst. There he meets the unsociable Suzune Horikita, who believes she was placed in Class D by mistake and desires to climb all the way to Class A, and the seemingly amicable class idol Kikyou Kushida, whose aim is to make as many friends as possible. While class membership is permanent, class rankings are not; students in lower ranked classes can rise in rankings if they score better than those in the top ones. Additionally, in Class D, there are no bars on what methods can be used to get ahead. In this cutthroat school, can they prevail against the odds and reach the top? [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Well, I honestly did not expect to love Classroom of the Elite this much. When this Anime originally came out in 2017, I had basically zero interest in it. The synopsis did not catch me, the trailer did not catch me, and for years I simply ignored it. Now after finally giving it a chance, I can say that was a mistake. Season 1 is a straight-up Masterpiece for me. The biggest reason is obviously Kiyotaka Ayanokoji. At first he seems quiet, detached, almost boring on purpose. But the more the season continues, the more you realize that there is MUCH more happening inside his head. He observes everything, calculates people, predicts reactions and manipulates situations without needing everyone to know that he was responsible. And THAT is what makes him so fascinating to me. He is not the typi…

This story is a textbook example of "tell, don't show." Having watched from Season I to Season III, the formula remains completely unchanged. The show pretends to be a heavy, cognitive, and intellectual psychological thriller, but it consistently fails to deliver. Instead, it feels more like a bunch of average-IQ high school kids pretending to be deeply philosophical, all dumped into a corporate-like school environment where they try to tear each other down. If you want to see why it fails as a true intellectual story, notice these core issues: 1. Convenient Plot Ayanokouji's plans often seem ingenious not because of truly brilliant strategies, but because the author deliberately nerfs other characters, making them suddenly stupid or oblivious just so Ayanokouji's plans can succeed. 2. I…

Personally, I like the genre ''OP characters destroying other people''. And this show fits well in the category. Classroom of the Elite was a show that really meant a lot to me, but the first season was the least good of all of them. I mean, it was good, but the way the author made the main character Ayanokoji Kiyotaka look like a +500 IQ god is a little annoying at times. It seems they don't have to explain how Ayanokoji won, they have just made him a god with infinnite intelligence who abuses the script. Speaking of the art style, I could say it is a solid 8/10 and has potential to be a 9/10. About the characters, I think one of the best parts of the show was how they were made so cool and important. You can empathize with every single one of them. You just start supporting the D class…

The fact that this anime has received as much praise as it has is, in itself, a travesty. Classroom of the Elite is almost a perfect antithesis of what I consider good writing. If you took nearly every creative decision this series makes and simply did the opposite, I'm genuinely convinced you'd end up with something more coherent, engaging, and worthwhile than this fucking garbage. To begin with, the plot is mind-numbingly boring. And honestly, I suspect much of that has to do with the cast itself, because the premise isn't inherently bad. In the hands of a competent writer, this could have been a genuinely interesting story. The series takes place at a prestigious school that supposedly admits only the "best of the best." Students are divided into different classes and ranked according…

One of the most pleasant surprises I've ever had watching anime. Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu might seem, at first glance, like just another generic school drama with competition between "genius" students. But after a few episodes, you realize there's something more calculated (and much colder) happening beneath the surface. I started watching it on Marco's recommendation from the Intoxi Anime channel, and I confess I was initially drawn to the aesthetics and the premise. However, what truly captivated me was how the narrative builds psychological tension in a seemingly ordinary environment. The premise is simple, but extremely effective: an elite school where only the best thrive. Students are divided into classes that compete against each other, and the system rewards…

This review covers the first 3 seasons. Classroom of the Elite features a high school where students are subjected to a series of challenges reminiscent of Among Us, Prisoner’s Dilemmas, and other game-theoretic tests of trust, betrayal, and coalition-building. As an econ major who's a fan of suspense thrillers, this premise intrigued me early on, and I'm happy to say the show mostly delivers. The protagonist Ayanakouji is a scheming unstoppable psychopath who is pretty fun to watch, even if he's excessively edgy at some points. At first there's some intrigue about whether he's just a Joe Average character or if he's hiding something, with even a bit of unreliable narration going on. That gets dropped unceremoniously at some point early in S1 which was a bit of a bummer since I felt the…

Classroom of the Elite (singular) is a very okay show that completely fails at using its premise to its full potential. At first, you'd think this is a story of multiple very smart people competing to get on top, but really it's only a handful of people that have *any* brains in this plot, most of the side characters are brainless pawns for the few ones that can actually think for themselves. The cast is theoretically big, but even in the main class very few of them have any existence. Ayanokoji, the protagonist, is fine enough as he is, I actually do find his deadpan, matter-of-fact manner of speaking to be really funny, especially compared to the more annoying side characters. However the writers decided to constantly make him take backstage, for story reasons, meaning you don't actual…

Intro: This show is really something special, and I don't mean that in a good way. I truly don't recommend getting into this show, because there are countless other shows that you could watch instead that would be a far better use of your time. I made the mistake of watching this as one of my first anime, and at the time I was blinded by all the big words and simple minded concepts that they threw at me, so at the time, I believed this show to be really good. After a rewatch, I realize, this show is definitely not good. Concept: The concept for this show is that the most elite and prestigious students attend a super advanced high school. Most of the individuals in this series are some of the dumbest, most easily manipulated, characters in all of anime, but somehow they managed to get into…

"Deja on peut pas parler d'ecriture si on a lu une traduction" Himu I wonder if this guy was supposed to sound like that or if it was just a liberty taken by the anime. I mean his flat intonation. I just thought making him speak slowly in the same pitch was a lazy way to show that he’s strange. If he doesn’t want to stand out, he shouldn’t speak like that. Say something right now like “I’m gonna bake a cake.” Sure, you’ll vocalise that in the same flat tone, but you won't when you’re communicating important information to people and what-have-you. You could, but it would be unnatural, and people would notice. My question is: why does he do this with his voice when he’s so careful about concealing every other aspect of his identity. It doesn't make sense. This isn't a nitpick, because ther…

Classroom of the Elite attempts to spin the oversaturated high school setting into an intellectual playground where homerooms compete over merit that directly influences social status. Ayanokouji, a student assigned to the lowest group vying for higher placement, finds himself proactively connecting disconnected individuals into a united class. These flawed interactions are engaging. After all, teamwork is paramount to reaching their common goal. Overall, this concept is interesting, but the execution is lacking. The ranking system is vaguely explored, and the supporting cast is massive but underdeveloped. Furthermore, with an average production prioritizing fan service and a filler episode over meaningful content, it feels lackluster.

Classroom of the Elite is a very good unintentional post-ironic comedy. From the first minutes I saw this anime that way and was very surprised when I didn't find the appropriate "comedy" tag. The extent to which the main character here is so over the top cold-blooded edgelord and an all-round "genius" in literally everything made me laugh throughout the whole show. Concept of this school with its strange rules is absurd enough in itself, but the biggest fun for me comes from how seriously and dramatically all these games in the sandbox are shown. Kids, come on, it's just a school)) Overall there is a large and diverse cast of characters, but the only one truly worth paying attention to is the main character - Kiyotaka Ayanokouji. The whole world revolves around him to show the audienc…

A few words beforehand. First of all, I want to say that I take the concepts brought by pieces of fiction very seriously because more often than not, they represent the author's own point of view towards the world. It is that and also the fact that it was recommended to me on the idea that the protagonist was a villain or something like that. For that matter I would say that it's not totally right. Ayanokoji or however his name was spelled(, I'll say AA for short), is never really the villain in the story. Although his behavior is certainly manipulative and at some points abrasive, The original statement doesn't make sense. At the end of the day, the media is made through the perspective of the main character and without arguing semantics, it merely represents his fight towards free…

this was one of my first animes and jm really sad about that this anime tried so hard to be a smart psychological anime but it’s just stupid with an unknown plot. it went from something going on at the school to them being on an island and someone stealing a girls panties (???) that wss the plot of like 5 episodes, litterally i dont remember most of this anime and i dropped it mid-season 2, im quite happy i dont remember this anime, as its so ass in conclusion if u want to feel edgy and smart while watching the most ass and boring anime ever with a messed up scrambked plot then classroom of the elite is for you! One of those anime that you keep watching hoping for something interesting to happen since the setup looks interesting, but nothing really happens. Excluding the season finale, the anime falls short of all those expectations and 1 ep out of 12 doesn't really cut it. The makers try to create a social commentary-esque,high school drama with many characters,a unique grading system, interplay b/w the many characters and so on. Every ep starts with some random quote from a famous philosopher but it doesn't really translate and ends up looking pretentious. And then there is fan service, loads of it! In a 12 ep season there is one ep solely dedicated to showing off the 'plots' of all female characters. What purpose did the ep serve? Nothing really. It just showed that our MC is a smart cookie but we…

I actually watched this anime a long time ago—if I remember correctly, it was sometime during the COVID pandemic. As someone who might be considered a veteran anime watcher (hehe), I can confidently say that Classroom of the Elite is one of my favorite anime from the past 5 to 10 years. What sets this anime apart is its unique perspective. It offers something very different from most typical school-themed anime. The political elements are strong and surprisingly relatable, at least to my own school experiences. This anime reminds us that school isn't just about attending class, studying, doing homework, and getting grades. In this show (and in the seasons that follow), you'll see romance, politics, friendship, raw emotions, and even a sense of survival within the school system. Now, abou…

I would say i am writing this review pretty late after 5 years i started watching ANIME and CLASSROOM OF THE ELITE was the one anime which forced me to watch and explore the world of ANIME. First here i need to explain many will criticize that there is just a guy who is manipulating everyone but they ignore the thing why he was doing so. Many people thought that what even this story makes it interesting but there many people failed to conceive what is was all about. Here from the starting monologue and ending monologue he said two things which many doesnt understand. It is all about the way of the world works in real life and we are just mere nothing but a piece to move it. This anime is not psychologically made to make users bewitched with the entire plotline where they think what is g…

We have an idea here, I'm not sure it's fully formed yet but it's there. Classroom of the elite is about a special school that produces Japan's next leaders. Succeed here and you can make it anywhere. ... except they won't tell you what the rules, parameters for success or failure, or what the point of it all actually is. Almost like it's a soft system and the author doesn't want to commit to anything that might need to be retconned later. This, along with a sharp drop in art/animation towards the middle of the season, is usually enough of a reason to relegate the series to the trash pile. What keeps it interesting however is that this is an underdog story. Yes there is an OP MC in the mix but rather than get handed cheat coupons the solutions and last minute saves are actually sma…

As much as I'd like to say "how this show managed to get 4+ seasons is beyond me", I do get it but boy do I not like it This show reeks of trying to appeal to teenagers in the most juvenile, boldfaced way possible It's standard LN fare with a heaping dose of fanservice in it (which I don't inherently mind but there are only so many "beach episodes but the jobber boy squad tries to perv on the girls" you can take before it becomes rote and cliche) and a surprising amount of pseudo-intellectualism None of the characters are likable, at best they are completely forgettable, at worst they are actively grating. I'd say Sakura is maybe the one exception but even then, I didn't LIKE her and she was just "shy girl with a secret pervert side" who only serves to be another Pikmin in Ayanokouji's…

If you are 12, very stupid, or just hate women this show is 10/10 peak cinema. If none of those categories apply to you, you should probably skip. The show follows Ayanokoji, a character that is better than everyone at everything, but also like doesn't care about anything because of how cool he is, but also still helps everyone around him because he can't show off how cool and smart he is if he actually keeps his head down, but also dodges credit to show how cool he is. It's got all the classic woman-hater tropes like false rape accusation, a haughty tsundere that exists to be worse at everything than the protagonist who then develops feelings because of how cool he is, and of course can't forget a bunch of camera shots directly pointed at tits/ass. It's fine to like this show (I do, becau…

Good, but doesn't hold up that well if you view it more critically. I have included very vague and very minor spoilers in two paragraphs. I'm not describing scenes or giving major details away, but they are marked in the beginning so you can skip if you're too worried. You know how some great* series are equally as enjoyable on the second and third time? Or how some masterpieces* become even better the second time around (hello Steins;Gate!) because you notice things that aren't noticeable the first time around? This is definitely not the case for this one. The first time around I really enjoyed it, and would give it an ~8, but on my second watch I'm leaning towards a ~6 instead. By far the best part of the series, are the ~5 seconds at the start of each episodes with quotes from famous…
