Deca-Dence

Deca-Dence

Introduction

Far in the future, the lifeforms known as Gadoll suddenly arose as a threat to humanity. The last surviving humans on Earth confine themselves to the Tank, a lower district in the giant mobile fortress Deca-Dence. While the Gears who live on the upper floors are warriors who go out to fight as part of the Power, most Tankers are content to provide support from the backlines, butchering Gadoll meat and reinforcing defenses. Natsume is among those who would rather go to the front lines; undeterred by her prosthetic right arm, she seeks to join the small number of Tanker soldiers who join the Gears in combat. But despite her peers at the orphanage each receiving their work assignments, Natsume’s enlistment to the Power remains unapproved. In the meantime, she begins a job as a cleaner in an armor repair team led by the hard-nosed and apathetic Kaburagi, who seems to be more than he lets on. Though initially cold to his idealistic subordinate, he soon recognizes in her the potential to upset the status quo of the world. As Natsume’s new mentor, Kaburagi prepares her for the special and unique role as a game-changing bug in the system. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

The best series that isn't worth your time. Deca-dence is a weird watch. I'm avoiding spoilers, because this is a series best enjoyed without them, but let's just say there's a bit of tonal whiplash. Well, that's a lie. There's a lot of tonal whiplash. So much in fact that it ruptures space-time and the series practically collapses in on itself. This is two, very different, styles of story-telling mashed together. I know the creators were going for dramatic contrast, but it just doesn't quite work. Either story on its own would have worked, but forced together in this weird, frankenstein-esque way, it just takes you completely out of it. Which is a shame, because each half of this story is legitimately good. This is a sad case where the whole is less than the sum of its parts and for tha…

This anime reminds me of some other famous works of fiction, but it somehow manages to be something very original and unique with one bold experimental idea in terms of storytelling. There were so many good ideas other than that, and almost everything was nicely put together and impressively well realized. I don't think it's a perfect show quite honestly, so I have to point out a few issues. The last episode felt a bit too rushed in my opinion. Moreover, I have one major complaint about an action sequence in the episode 8. That part kind of felt like a shameless rip-off of a famous Pixar movie "Monsters, Inc.", and it didn't work for me at all. However, the pros are so good that it make up the cons. The two lead main characters are interesting and fun to watch, and both of them have real…

Good animation, great visuals, okay-okay story, likeable characters, fantastic action. CGI sometimes doesn't look good but turned out great towards the end. It's mostly a mindless action series but does deal with some themes like class system and others which can't be gotten into without spoiling the series. The main selling point for me was that the main characters were likeable and you wanted them to survive and be on the next episode. You're not looking to see who dies most gruesomely next, like a lot of its contemporaries. I found the comedy to be quite good as well at parts. Not much else to say, would recomend it. It's a small fun action packed series.

SPOILER FREE REVIEW: I'm not sure what made me watch this. I think I was just browsing new anime at the time, liked the style of the anime and gave it a chance. I'm so glad I did. And I'm so sad that not more people know about this anime. Without giving away spoilers, it does so many things different and it will definitely catch you by surprise in a GOOD WAY with the direction it takes. It was so refreshing. The characters as well were very rememberable, even small ones. I got deeply invested in the main characters which is very important to me and hard to find for me. I really can't say more without spoiling big things but I can't recommend this anime more.

One of the best works of dystopian fiction I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Title has a neat dual meaning. The beginning is incredibly well-done. While many write off the ending as "convenient", the commitment to the final decision involving one of the main trope characters arguably denies that. Fumiyuki did an awesome job with the OST as well. My only rationale for not rating this 10/10 is due to the ending being on the weaker side, as well as the characters beginning to make less-believable decisions that I feel were not objectively cohesive with their originally defined predispositions. Kurita's characters usually appeal to me in this way, but this time around I felt a lot of inconsistencies.

I put the series on hold for a while but I always planned to continue it. The "thing" disturbed me for some days I admit it, but all in all, it was a refreshing experience ! The story itself stays classic, but even though the artstyle can deter a little, I grew attached to the characters. Kab's and Natsume father-daughter relationship and evolution are pleasing to watch, despite the secrets. The universe is original, even if there is a parallell with somewhat societal problems. And the animation is good. I think I can understand why people won't like it, but I'm glad I gave this show a chance !

Deca-Dence = Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress = Knights of Sidonia = Attack on Titan. Yes, there's a "twist" (if you can even call it that) that gets revealed very early on that makes this setup technically different from the aforementioned anime that this is clearly copying, but at the end of the day this anime is far more similar to its influences than it is in any way original and it simply never escapes that. It also doesn't help matters that the female lead here, Natsume, looks like several other characters from different anime as well. Throughout the entirety of my viewing experience of Deca-Dence I felt I'd seen what it was showing me multiple times before and the handful of things it did in an attempt to distinguish itself came up well short, leaving it feeling like an inferior knock…

This show really only has one flaw: it's short. Not in a way that hurts the story, but rather that I wanted to keep watching more episodes. In every other way this is a masterpiece. Visually excellent and creative, I don't even mind that it combines realistic visuals and chibi visuals. I love that Decadence isn't just another Gundam, and the gear system is fairly creative. The plot could have been more complex, but it's fine for 12 episodes, and the secret that you learn is a pretty creative spin on the normal plot, without being batshiat insane the way a lot of sci-fi anime seems to end up. 12 episodes isn't a lot of time to develop a cast, but you meet a handful of main characters that are well written and voice acted. The show lacks a real villain, because the true villain is "societ…

This show is outstanding, I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys watching sci-fi or adventure. Thus, I will give a rundown/summary of basic points that the show does right and/or wrong. The characters in this show are great and extremely likeable. They are extremely interesting to watch interact with each other as they progress throughout the story. The plotline of the show isn't too complex but its still solid and has some twists that are hard to expect. (Additionally if the plotline was changed to add more complexity it would probably result in the show feeling rushed, which would be bad.) The show itself is perfectly paced in my opinion, never overstaying its welcome and fits perfectly into the 12 episode season. Furthermore, the artstyle of this show is visually unique and I…

Deca-dence has a well-written plot, likable characters, bizarre worldbuilding, and great music. There are some techniques that I noticed because I watched Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na before it - some cinematic tricks to make the viewer eager to keep watching. And I appreciate it! I had some Gurren Lagann vibes when watching it, but I don't understand why MAL told me, "if you like Sakugan, you'll like Deca-dence". (this was before I added either to my list). First of all, Deca-dence came first (2020), and it's well-done unlike Sakugan (2021). Yeah, similar father-daughter vibes, but the comparison is misleading. So dear viewers, if you hated Sakugan like me, don't be fooled. Deca-dence is good!

Yet another Japanese "projektu". Let me tell you what's wrong with these projectus: it's exactly the same problem early access video games have nowadays, people just throw in shallowest ideas that sound cool in hopes that it will stick. Let me tell what is wrong with this: good idea doesn't need to sound cool and different from the first glance, good idea needs to result in something deep and complete; cool sounding shallow ideas never work in the long term because there is no depth nor completeness. This is why so many early access video games only leave early access by becoming abandonware. This is why so many projectus are as shallow as a dry poddle. Long story short, after watching first three episodes you'll know everything about the world. There's nothing more to it, there's no more…

I found this Anime to be incredibly tedious, I wish it I could see it as a good one like many people do apparently but I can only see the main dynamic as a empty shell of a relationship compared to something that came out around the same time, Sakugan. The characters and story to me were average and predicable at best, only bested in boringness by the pacing which to me was horrendous. It looks somewhat well animated, and I love the studio that made and wish them nothing but happiness, I just didn't like the show, and I like their other stuff. All the best, don't watch this.

Deca-Dence (デカダンス) is an original anime series by studio Nut. If you haven’t heard of that studio, it’s probably because the only other anime they’ve made is The Saga of Tanya the Evil (and FLCL Alternative). They’re not a new studio, but they don’t do all that much. But don’t let Nut’s limited portfolio fool you; they’re a good studio. And since Deca-Dence is an original series, it’s a fairly good example of what they’re capable of. The series has some great animation and choreography, and the art style reminded me of a somewhat watered-down version of Trigger’s style. Basically, the anime looks nice, even if its art style isn’t going to be for everyone. And speaking of the art style, there are actually certain parts of the series that look much like a Western cartoon than Japanese anim…

Story: Deca-Dence takes a similar setting to a combination of Log Horizon and Attack on Titan. Firstly, imagine all the players and NPCs of Log Horizon living in the enclosed walls of Attack on Titan where the titans outside are instead monsters. Secondly, unlike Log Horizon where players are powerful individuals, in this scenario it's the NPCs that are powerful. Thirdly, unlike Attack on Titan where it seems that humans are standing on thin ice for their survival, this anime portrays the powerful NPCs as capable of going against the monsters outside the wall, while the players are trying their best to survive. Now imagine that among the players and the NPCs have anomalies such as abnormal personalities or defects etc. These anamolies causes complications within the society of NPCs and pla…

This is a bit of a spoiler review, I'll only reveal a key element from the first few but some people say to go into those first few episodes blind so keep that in mind, it's kind of a surprise. Deca-Dence is an interesting concept but there's a bit of a twist, one that I'm not particularly fond of. It's a video game. Now, it technically takes place in the same world but I still feel like it's the same effect. I think it would've been fine on its own, without that element but it seems like most people don't agree and didn't like the first episode and then changed their mind whenever that was introduced. I guess I'm just of a different type then. I've also seen people say that it's a bit too similar to other things without adding that in there but I'll argue that it's too similar to other…

Deca-Dence is a good sci-fi anime, which does not excel in any way, but has a really good story and solid foundation. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in sci-fi. Deca-Dence is an anime original and this you feel. The show is well paced and really good structured. I was a little confused in the first 2-3 episodes because the show does not tell you everything from the start but after getting the background I found this quite good done. The story is well fitted in the 12 episodes and does not feel boring. The Art is good animated if you look over the really bad 3d CGI car scenes which are luckily not so often but hell do they cringe. On the Character side we have a solid line-up but some of the side characters are a little to side which is ok for the story but then why incl…

I dived into this anime not knowing much about it and just went straight into it and I was definitely surprised at the twist that came in EP2. The twist was so unexpected that some people began to drop it. Now just from the first episode itself, people might think it is a dupe of AoT/SnK. From my POV, if we take it as a whole – it's not. BUT, it is just as good! One of the things that makes me love and enjoyed this so much was the character development. I have to say that this anime has one of the most solid character development, and it was done truly well. The protagonist was endearingly likable and has the sunny-disposition MC trope personality to counter the desolate nature of her mentor. I adore the relationship between these two because the studio really paid attention to that by th…

No spoilers: Overall, this show is a 9/10. I watched this show a year after release. There were so many other things I was trying to catch up with that this show just fell through the cracks. BE WARE, the cover for this show is not indicative of the actual show. After episode 1 you will see that this show is not at all what it seems. The bombshell reveal in episode two will either make or break this show for you as it completely shifts art styles, voices, manners of speech, plot, and well...everything gets flipped on its head. This is what makes this show. Honestly at first I was conflicted thinking...man why not just keep the show going, but then it would simply be a hybrid between attack on titan and darling in the franxx which were already done. Well, they added a HUGE SAO element t…

A great little anime that surprisingly covers a lot of ground in it's 12 episodes. It does this by really focusing on developing the 2 main characters throughout the anime and giving the handful of important side characters a little development here and there. Those side characters are pretty generic so it doesn't take much while on the other hand, the 2 main characters are really developed. Im usually not a fan of 12 episode animes but this one was enjoyable and inspired me enough to write a review, hoping to convince someone else to give it a shot. Ive seen hundreds and hundreds of animes, and that can make most new ones all too predictable right off the bat. So many cliches, the same plots, archetypes, etc. This anime was refreshing in its original plot. Its a mixture of other estab…
