Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

Introduction

The world is in the midst of the industrial revolution when horrific creatures emerge from a mysterious virus, ripping through the flesh of humans to sate their never-ending appetite. The only way to kill these beings, known as "Kabane," is by destroying their steel-coated hearts. However, if bitten by one of these monsters, the victim is doomed to a fate worse than death, as the fallen rise once more to join the ranks of their fellow undead. Only the most fortified of civilizations have survived this turmoil, as is the case with the island of Hinomoto, where mankind has created a massive wall to protect themselves from the endless hordes of Kabane. The only way into these giant fortresses is via heavily-armored trains, which are serviced and built by young men such as Ikoma. Having created a deadly weapon that he believes will easily pierce through the hearts of Kabane, Ikoma eagerly awaits the day when he will be able to fight using his new invention. Little does he know, however, that his chance will come much sooner than he expected... [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Don't you hate it when a series with a great concept, strong character impressions, an amazing dystopian setting, and beautiful sakuga animation starts to fizzle out in the latter half because it feels like the writers simply didn't plan ahead? Darling in the Franxx, Takt Op. Destiny, Vanitas, Sabikui Bisco, Wonder Egg Priority, Charlotte, The Promised Neverland... and now, Kabaneri... These are titles that could've been much bigger household names, but instead became examples of what could've been; undone by poor execution and a gradual loss of identity. I was so ready to call Kabaneri the hidden action-survival masterpiece after being disappointed by the progression of the final season of Shingeki no Kyojin. But as bad as the Marleyan massacre and the predestination plot can be, at lea…

"koutetsujou no kabaneri" is a zombie-apocalypse-meets-SteamPunk, done poorly. Plot-wise this anime is completely laughable. There is no consistency in anything and every person alive seems to be constantly making terrible decisions. The zombies of this world are seemingly immortal, yet a 12-year old girl can effortlessly kill a dozen of them. Despite this, the braindead population of this world do not praise her but despise her. Because insulting their savior will DEFINITELY help them stay alive. The characters of this show are absolutely terrible every one of them. Our main character does nothing but yell all of the time, yet through sheer plot armour manages to save the 12-year old damsel in distress who for some reason keeps getting panty-shots. Speaking of her, she is initially shown…

So painful to give this 6... The first episode was fantastic, so much potential. The first 3 episodes? The world building, atmosphere, art. Absolutely exciting. Steampunk themes with horror, mystery, and trains in feudal Japan? It was a pitch for a home run. All main characters were likable and well rounded and sensibly designed. Then, it got bad. Real bad. I can only assume there were problems in production and writing, because everything started falling apart quickly once the extremely over-played "well there are monsters in this world, but the real monsters are HUMANS!" Story beat reared its ugly head. It defies belief, how "professional" writers throw away perfectly mysterious, intriguing, scary monsters as the main antagonists, and instead opt for some generic anime villains w…

I'll keep this sort because there are some amazing reviews already. I find it quite unique as a scenario. I believe comparing it to Attack on titan does not do justice to Kabaneri. Although it's unique as I said, the repetition of the theme in every episode makes it a bit predictable by the end. I don't necessarily feel that characters need to evolve and become relatable, but in Kabaneri it's more or less the same all the time. Cool story, nice animation but it's lacking something. I gave it a 6/10 as it wasn't as appealing for my taste, however some may find it quite interesting. Finally, I believe there are better action anime out there worth watching.

It took me 8 years to realize Kabaneri was an original show. And that's when it clicked why this show was so godawful. Original series either become classics (like Cowboy Bebop) or are absolutely abysmal wastes of time (like Aldnoah.Zero), because most anime screenwriters are seemingly unable to write good script without a reference made by a "professional". Very rarely you get something that could be considered just "OK" (like Eureka Seven), but most of the time original shows fall into the "abysmally bad" territory. Kabaneri is one of those shows. It starts off with the MC choking himself for a few minutes (?) to stop zombie virus from possessing him (??) by preventing it from reaching his brain through his blood stream (???), then once the virus "settles down" (????) he slightly loos…

An insolent attempt by Wit Studios to recreate the success of Attack on Titan. The gorgeous music, choreography and action scenes reminiscent of their work on Attack on Titan are obfuscated by the absence of Isayama Hajime's god-tier writing and visionary discipline. Cash grab seasonal shows are dime a dozen but it feels weird to see a creative leader like Wit stepping into chocolate footprints like this. The show started off with piss-poor animation quality disguised as thrilling, suspenseful artwork that deteriorated in resolution with each passing sequence. The music by Sawano Hiroyuki attempted to detain the audience long enough to deliver a better trainwreck than Spiderman ever could but the opening and ending sequences by EGOIST and Aimer were too busy competing for the worst perfor…

Koutetsujou no Kabaneri was a delectable viewing experience. Some may see its similarities with the behemut that is Attack on Titan ; humanity, restrained by the walls of standing cities (or “stations”) fighting the inhuman and monstrous entities who took over the world. Although the “kabane” are zombie like, there is little to no horror in this anime. More on that below. A BEAUTIFUL ANIMATION One obvious aspect to mention is the absolute BEAUTY of the animation and design choices of some scenes. If you are looking to find options for your new Windows screensaver, trust, there are plenty of screenshot-worthy scenes! An interesting note is the additional “glow” surrounding female characters. One might say, they almost looked like they did not belong in the anime. This is both a compliment…

Watched it on its release year, loved the music. forgot then the music got reccomended to me again that made me rewatch the entire thing in one sitting. nothing life changing but it was a fun watch and got some its moments with animation quality aswell. also i'd like more protagonist like Ikoma he's cool The anime brought up some common moral dillemma with discrimination and how the general public is so easily driven by fear mostly and how our main characters react to it is the main attractiveness of the show which i love when i see it happens. I would love to see more anime to have art style like this anime, it felt timeless, detailed, and beautiful at the same time compared to what we have in the recent years. If you like good music and cool flashy fights, you'll like this.

Absolutely relentless garbage with zero redeeming qualities. It's an extremely shoddy attempt at leeching off of Attack on Titan's success (TL;DR: the score, the portrayal of desperation, and the whole core setting of humanity's remnants in small feudal towns that act like last bastions while they are trying to repel hordes of supernatural humanoids using primitive steam-punk tech). The enemies are not one bit intimidating in presence, the character design is awful across the board (just like the animation itself) and the characters are even more poorly written (pretty much not a single likeable character with any depth whatsoever) and poorly voice acted. The plot itself has zero substance and no meaningful development. You'd have to be a re****ed clown to remotely enjoy this trite, uninsp…

Kabaneri of the Iron fortress was made by the same studio and the music was composed by the same person who did Attack on Titan. But not only that: the premise, the setting, characters' motivations, themes - all of these were undoubtedly inspired by Attack on Titan, so it was universally proclaimed as an AoT clone. The anime was fairly popular at the time but the more seasons of its grandfather have come out the less people have kept talking about or even remember Kabaneri. But how ironic it would be if Kabaneri is far and away better in every aspect then Attack on Titan. Naaah, I'm just kidding. The very first impression Kabaneri of the Iron fortress gave me is how unapologetically it tries to recreate the AoT vibes without doing something that would set it apart or shifting the focus fro…

Objectively, this show, is not good. The writing is subpar. Its a bit wish fulfill-y. The zombies really aren't interesting and the action and tension in the plot aren't much to write home about. To be clear though, I have autism and trains are a special interest and ughghghghg these trains go so hard and I pretty much only watch the show for them and I was not disappointed. Well, that'd be a lie cause I also watch this show for train mommy (Yukina my beloved). If you don't have autism for trains like me then you might be best not watching it

i admit, i started watching this show because it has many similarities with attack on titan. but along the way, i feel like it detached from this angle. yes, we can discern many characteristics seen in aot such as: main character’s family member dies by the hand of monsters, he gets the power they possess, vows to kill all of them and protect his loved ones. you even have the strong female character who has an attraction to the protagonist, the walls, some sort of “scouts”, so on and so forth. everyone gets it, koutetsujou no kabaneri follows the exact same basic storyline as aot. but many details are unique to this series, and they’re very obvious. now, i’ll list some of the things that i liked/disliked about this series and why i have mixed feelings about it: 1. side characters aren’t…

I may have only just found out about this last night but with the short 12 episodes it has was able to binge easily. I loved how much it reminded me of Attack on Titan yet managed to keep its own story and plot. Honestly I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Attack on titan and Demon Slayer, and people who enjoy violence and zombies. The art style is amazing, the story is well written, characters get plenty of time to get enough development even though it is only 12 episodes long. Overall I give this a 9/10 since some of the things in there feel like they are pulled directly out of Attack on titan.

Zombies on the train, what more could you ask for? Apocalyptic survival setting; there wasn't any strong romance right out the gate- we got to see the backgrounds of our characters, shed tears for side-characters, laughed with out main protagonists, awed at their bad assery.. There better be a season 2 !! there's some things left unanswered ! This is a great watch if you like zombies, apocalyptic setting, action, tear-jerkers and suspense! Just be warned, there is currently no season 2; us FANS are waiting patiently for our happily ever after with Mumei & Ikoma. P.S. same animators who did Attack on Titan !!

The strongest part of this anime was the animation. There were several scenes throughout that looked absolutely incredible, but besides that it didn't have much else going for it. The main character didn't really feel developed and throughout the episodes there was a general feeling of it being rushed. This was especially noticeable with conversations between people that seemed to end prematurely where it felt like there should've been much more dialoge in thise scenes. The prematurely cut conversations also prevented any kind of connection to the characters, making them seems less memorable and a bit lackluster. Overall, it's an okay show with great animation, but not something worth watching.

Every typical shounen main character must have a strong appearance, but I don't think Ikoma has that. Ikoma is built differently, even after becoming a Kabaneri, I don't think he looks strong at all. That's the only thing I like about this show. The main antagonist is more like a typical shounen character with a foolish ideology, something that most anime fans enjoy. Basically, this anime is a mix of Tokyo Ghoul, Attack on Titan, and various movie/show references that I can't elaborate on. It's a shame that many good characters had their potential development wasted. It's fun to watch this anime to be honest even the story was not that good but it still fun because i like zombie genre. ANYWAY I LOVE MUMEI ARMPITS!!!!

Sometimes, a series comes along that is just strictly "alright". Kabaneri is one of those series. It does have some truly great scenes and compelling episodes, but half of its runtime is wasted on some truly terrible writing and characters you just want to slap upside the head. Characters range from brilliant to brain dead from scene-to-scene and those blunders are used to keep the narrative moving. Essentially, the cast is stupid for plot convenience, and that can leave a poor taste in anyone's mouth. The story really never picked up, either. While some interesting concepts did shine through at times, a lot of them were stopped short of reaching full potential. The main villain of the show is also just boring. If you haven't seen anime before, this may have worked for you. Otherwise, you…

Koutetsujou no Kabaneri, also known as Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, is a post-apocalyptic action anime that takes place in a world overrun by zombie-like creatures known as Kabane. Produced by Wit Studio, the same studio that brought us Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress features stunning visuals, intense action sequences, and an intriguing story that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The anime follows the story of Ikoma, a young engineer who develops a new weapon called the Tsuranukizutsu that can pierce through the Kabane's iron-clad hearts. He teams up with a group of survivors, including a skilled warrior named Mumei, to fight against the Kabane and protect humanity. One of the highlights of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is its animation and art style. The chara…
