God Eater

God Eater

Introduction

The year is 2071. Humanity has been pushed to the brink of extinction following the emergence of man-eating monsters called "Aragami" that boast an immunity to conventional weaponry. They ravaged the land, consuming almost everything in their path and leaving nothing in their wake. To combat them, an organization named Fenrir was formed as a last-ditch effort to save humanity through the use of "God Eaters"—special humans infused with Oracle cells, allowing them to wield the God Arc, the only known weapon capable of killing an Aragami. One such God Eater is Lenka Utsugi, a New-Type whose God Arc takes the form of both blade and gun. Now, as one of Fenrir's greatest weapons, Lenka must master his God Arc if he is to fulfill his desire of wiping out the Aragami once and for all. The monsters continue to be born en masse while the remnants of humanity struggle to survive the night. Only God Eaters stand between the Aragami and complete and total annihilation of the human race. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This anime is about humanity's survival against Aragami, who are monsters that consumes organic and even inorganic (inconsistent though) materials. It's very good, and we see the world through many character's view. The story itself isn't unique, and has been done hundreds of time before. However, unlike many that failed, God Eater does a good job setting up this world to have a feeling of true fear and hopelessness. The only way to kill Aragami is using a device call God Arc, and the only way to use God Arc is to infuse human bodies with Aragami cells. That said, God Eaters, although they have amazing speed and strength, with an incredible weapon- are still outnumbered and many times, outpowered by Aragami. The story also isn't so simple as there are a lot of politics at play, includin…

goddamn how many times have I seen this trope of protag struggling with his past fights monsters with a group of misfits, with each their own personality. Look i get it, anime is all about tropes but this is a prime example of a not well thought off anime with a subpar plot and just used the game as a face so they have an excuse to make "an adaptation". However, the animation is still well done for me at the least, great action packed scenes and somewhat an average-decent world building I guess. Outside of those factors, an easy binge for sure but with how trope-heavy and cliche the anime was built it's not kind of anime that sticks long to your memories.

The God Eater anime has always stood out to me as a prime example of how to do an adaptation well. The original game has a silent, player stand-in protagonist and a story that is overall not very cohesive or compelling. In short, the studio did not have much to work with here beyond some pretty surface level characters and a loose plot flow. The fact that they managed to take that shoddy framework and create something that is not only watchable, but genuinely pretty good, is a testament to the studio's dedication to the property. You can't create a brand new, well-developed, plot-cohesive MC from scratch without significant respect for and knowledge of the original work. Every character in the show gets a similar upgrade, giving them much more depth and intrigue than they ever had in the…

Adapted from a video game, God Eater stands out among its peers with its promising premise and unique approach. While many anime adaptations of games fall short, this one manages to hold its ground, offering a visually striking experience and engaging characters. The animation, often a point of contention among viewers, is one of God Eater's strongest assets in my opinion. Its bold art style and dynamic action scenes may not appeal to everyone, but they effectively set the tone for its grim, post-apocalyptic world. The characters are another highlight, each given enough background and development to feel relevant, especially given the anime's relatively short runtime. However, where God Eater falters is its story. Initially, the premise feels familiar yet intriguing, delivering a solid p…

TL;DR: If you like worldbuilding then this is for you but you have to look past chapter 1. This anime is not bad but at the same time it's not that good. The first chapter is super bad and boring but if you can look past that then you are awarded with an above average anime. I personally liked the entire thing minus the first and last chapters that were boring af. The world-building is surprisingly well done and it's the best aspect of the anime, if it wasn't for it i would have dropped the anime, the problem is that the rest is so boring in comparison that you only look forward to the worldbuilding bits of the anime, if all the women didn't have super suggestive clothing and disproportionate bodies and those 2 chapters werent so boring then i would have given this anime a 10, just bec…

God Eater will be getting a second season in 2022, and after finally watching the first season and not thinking much of it as a whole, I thought it was worth it to write a review and clarify why the hell I would say that but also be planning to watch and expecting a lot from the upcoming second season. As that would imply, this is a strange one to review - I looked at each of the categories, Story/Art/Sound/Character and had to rate between 8-9 for each of them... but enjoyment only a 4? Overall 6? What the hell is this? Technically, God Eater has all the tools and talent, everything it needs to be a fantastic Anime... but it just isn't a fantastic Anime. The art is stylized brilliantly, the CGI isn't great but because of the glossy, polished look of the art style and very spicy ufotable…

God Eater short review by Ja025: Refreshing: Main character is special but not overpowered (not a deus ex machina jerker). Notable: Isn’t one sided when it comes to characters, shows a diverse set of characters with different personalities / goals / wishes. Story about the world revealed as main story develops. Disappointing: Animation can be weird / cheap / choppy at times - examples: face expressions look unnatural (like that grandpa from Parasyte), somewhere only one frame is used for multiple seconds or 2 frames switch back and forth to illustrate wind on character’s face). Obvious: This anime has a similar setting with many other anime of this type (Black Bullet, Kabaneri, Muv-Luv, Attack on Titan, Chrome Shelled Regios, FranXX, Mushibugyo…), so you might enjoy it if you like thi…

God Eater's one of those shows that I didn't think had much going for it. After all, how many times do anime based off of games succeed? Uh... Yeah, I was wrong. Story: God Eater's story focuses around demon beasts known as Aragami. They are ferocious, aggressive and show zero mercy. They come in a range of different size and strengths, and are feared by anyone who gets near one. Enter Fenrir, an organization who employs enhanced warriors to fight these beasts with weapons they have developed known as God Arcs. Their goal is to destroy all these beasts, or at least delay them, until a way to stop humanity from going extinct is discovered. Yes, this show is that grim. Anyone who watched Attack on Titan knows what I'm talking about. We then meet Lenka, a seemingly ordinary kid who is taken…

When i first watched this show I sort of had that odd feeling. Mid way through it felt like a complete rip off of Shingeki No Kyojin/Attack on Titan. No offense tho. Although the art of the show felt very unique, the story lacked alot, not to mention the ending has to be the worst of any kind. Instead of answering the needed questions it instead opened new boxes. What the hell was this? Overall 1.5/10. That too cause of the art style. The story sucks. The way in which it was similar to AOT was the monsters beyond a certain point, humanity living within a certain boundary, soldiers who risk their lives for the betterment of humanity, main character motivated to free the humans, people not knowing that the man in charge has a son, this part felt so much relatable to the Uprising Arc of AOT.…

Story A serious setting, and it gives me the feeling that humans aren't safe, even the protagonists. I like the genre and the story was able to catch me. It is complex, has its surprises and turns. God eater is very dark in some parts and I like that. It's not too much, and it doesn't feel excessive - it fits. But it's also about hope, and it feels realistic, because the characters have to go all out, need to be creative, and sometimes it also needs a portion of luck. And that is what this setting demands. Art I enjoyed the arts very much! Until today, I am still impressed how good it looks. It's able to make moments even more epic for me. It fits the setting as well, it doesn't look "cartoony" or simple. That's what I prefer here. Here I can only give the full score. Sound It's a greate…

Story (3/10) This has been done hundrets of times before. Its a ripoff from Attack on Titan and Neon Genesis Evangelion, which it both takes and tries to mixture it, but fails horrible at it. A few people that defend humanity behind huge walls in a kind-of future-ish setting with advanced technology? HMMM, DEFINITLY NOT STOLEN Art (4/10) Not great, not terrible Sound (3/10) Opening Theme is bad, there is no good music in itself, and the voice acting is meh. Character (1/10) HORRIBLE The show tries to give the characters some deep, but fails at it. And yet again they tried stealing from NGE, but this time it was with the PTSD-ish / depression theme, but failed. And totally unnecessary, over the top sexualizion (and of course the female characters, like it could be any different with th…

God Eater (2015) Well, I am glad I didn't watch it live since it is pretty action-packed and an easy binge. Also seems like it took quite a while to release. The show has a pretty good story and I came here after playing Code Vein since it crosses over in the same universe. I must say that I was impressed with the story for although sometimes a slow burner does develop quite well. You don't get unnecessary developments that you didn't need, it just gets on with it. One thing the show does really well is the argument of you cannot save them all and also that not everyone will survive this endgame. An addition of some good realism there. The art is very CGI but in a great way and it also at times almost looks on characters as if they were painted by how they are represented. I am not…

God Eater is an anime that brings together many formulas that are known to work in anime but this time they do not finish working. It feels just like the mixture of several things that we already saw many times out there, you know plagiarism of plagiarism, and yes, there is some Evangelion, some Gundam, some Attack on Titan, and believe me the list goes on. Knowing the team that brought this work to life, the truth was to be expected because it repeats much of what has already been seen before in Guilty Crown, and repeats its same mistakes almost step by step. Let's put ourselves in the pants of the producers and directors, try to give seriousness to an already over-exploited formula, "post-apocalyptic world, kill monsters to survive, people locked in walls", but at least they would have d…

God Eater is an action anime with mediocre action elements. It has some ups like the art and sound, which are also very important, but I expected some beefier fights! Most of the battle scenes are a little awkward. They're very one sided, the power balance is changed randomly and their outcome isn't really decided in a satisfying way. The show's overall a mediocre, but definitely fun short series. If you're looking for a time filler it won't dissapoint you. World design is pretty simple. Big bad monsters control the world, humanity tries to survive and grow, but there are some cruel and egoistic people as well. The typical apocalyptic stuff. It fits well as a fundation for the battle scenes but not much more. I've liked some of the ideas but the series didn't have time to develop them by…

This anime is what I would call a short but "sweet" anime. Something short but also has has a lot of major details put into it. There's so much to learn. Yet, so much yet to be understood. It's actually difficult to put into words to be honest. But, it as amazing anime with awesome friendships with each teammate willing to help each other out by working together fo eliminate one common enemy, for the fate of humanity. By working together, one or the whole entire team can all but hope for success on the battle field. The amazing team work between each and every one of them is simply beautiful, it's actually sometimes a tear jerker to be honest.

Being somewhat familiar with the God Eater game franchise, I was interested in watching the anime when I saw it was streaming. I didn't get my hopes up too high after the first episode, which turned out to be a good thing, because just about everything ended up being rather middling or striking me the wrong way, except for the art. For the first few episodes, I actually thought the art was ugly. The animation itself was OK, that is, fluid. But the characters seemed very low polygon, and the backgrounds felt like they were from a video game that could only display a few objects at a time. The environments didn't feel lived in, essentially. Around the fourth or fifth episode, I started noticing how beautiful the lighting was—very soft and diffuse. The character models seemed more rounded as…

I feel that this show is a very subjective show, where it all comes down to whether you like it or not to see how it will be rated. I believe that objectively looking at this is very difficult and I can only recommend this to people who share my tastes. I suppose this is what one would call “niche”. The thing I really like about the story is that there is not exactly a single story to follow. Everyone’s point of view is different, and though the events are the same, the way it is portrayed is different on character to character. The goals are different for each character, and the show maximizes off of this, giving a very interesting and complex storyline to follow. Because of this, it can be a bit confusing and it doesn’t really do much to tie it together. The events that go on make sens…

God Eater is a post-apocalyptic survival story, featuring the amazing art and animation, as well as a good soundtrack that you'd come to expect from an Ufotable production. And it goes beyond just animation, it's the whole direction that is on point. Scenes transition well, the "camera" focuses on the right things, pans the right way etc. It's a visual masterpiece. Despite the anime being only 13 episodes long, I think they managed to do plenty with it. The story won't blow your mind, but it's quite serviceable. And the visual storytelling is top notch, with backstory exposition revealed bit by bit in colour faded flashbacks. The high quality of the art is further solidified by the extreme attention to detail, where computer screens have readable contents, and entire reports have been wr…

God Eater does not stand out for his argument that I mean from the beginning, but it does not have a bad argument either, the script is very well written and it is a series that catches you from chapter 2 onwards and although it does not have a great development of characters I let out a little cry once and in the last one, even though I could see it coming, my eyes got wet, something that is not a little ... evidently it is not the series that stands out but it is very good, the characters are credible and although they are generic at some point one ends up becoming fond of most of them ... Now I will highlight the points: 10/10 Video Quality: it really is excellent for the moment it was done, it is very beautiful visually and the 3D modeling looks great (the incredible work coming from S…

God Eater is one of the more.. disappointing shows I've watched. Legendary Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works/Heavens Feel and Kara no Kyoukai studio managed to certainly MAKE a story with the adaptation of the PlayStation Portable game of the same name, but after both watching the show and playing the game, I can't help but feel the show is the more inferior of the two, even with the gimped controls of the handheld. A story that hops between plot points like an Olympic gymnast with little to no care of the actual chronological order of things, with bland character arcs that felt like their storyboards got mixed around in the planning room, cop-outs that slap you in the face if you were expecting something that was supposed to happen and shove "Something Unexpected" into your hands an…
