This show is hot ass. Literally. Glorified porn.
PROS:
The animation is really clean and "sexy" (🥵...). It's definitely above average and something you would expect from an action show.
CONS:
If someone randomly clicked on this without knowing what site they were on, they would think it's porn. They would probably pull their pants down, grab some lube, and start jerking it, and realize 6 episodes in that this isn't porn. Never have I ever seen tits bounce 6 times. 6. in all sorts of directions after turning around somewhat quickly. It's like they think the viewer is a porn addict who needs to see ass or tits bouncing up and down to maintain their attention. Every 10 seconds, there are random scenes of cleavages, jiggling, moaning, panty shots, anything sexual for no fucking reason. T…

I DON'T NEED TO SEE THE PANTY COLLECTION OF EVERY SINGLE FEMALE CHARACTER IN THE ENTIRE CAST TO APPRECIATE A WORK OF FICTION!
And that's how this review begins, because I genuinely don't understand... Why turn a zombie apocalypse survival series into an ECCHI?!
I'm not entirely against this genre, even though it doesn't interest me, but some works simply don't need it... It's just counterproductive. It undermines the seriousness of the story and the sense of gravity surrounding the events. The female characters are degraded, constantly being shown in their panties and bent over as far as physically possible. How am I supposed to take these characters seriously when they actually had some potential?
Honestly, the first five episodes showed promise. Sure, there were already a few question…

Honestly, this anime is absolute garbage. The excessive sexualization of practically every female character is disgusting, especially considering that most of them are 16 and one of them is only 7. It's hard to see these characters as actual layered when the anime constantly reduces them to objects for viewers to lust over. Their bodies are practically treated as more important than their personalities, and the constant, ridiculous fan service makes the show feel less like a zombie apocalypse story and more like an excuse to sexualize underage characters. It's creepy, unnecessary, and genuinely pathetic from a writing standpoint. The anime seems to have very little interest in treating its female characters as actual human beings.
The story itself had a decent premise, but the execution i…

I watched this anime back in 2012 and really enjoyed it at the time, so I decided to rewatch it. And, to my surprise, I still really like this series. I honestly don't understand why its rating is so low.
The story is quite simple, something we've already seen in movies, TV shows, and games. And even though the zombie genre has been explored countless times in entertainment, this anime still does a great job with it. It's like eating food you really enjoy: you already know what it tastes like, but you keep eating it because you know it tastes good.
The story basically follows a group of high school students who do everything they can to survive in this zombie-filled apocalyptic chaos. Everything starts right in the first episode, and we never learn exactly how or where it began and we pr…

The story had a solid premise at the beginning, which gives this anime a rather "unfulfilled potential" kind of vibe. It's essentially about panties and breasts with a bit of zombie killing in between; which I'm not saying is a bad thing. If you are going in for the ecchi aspects of the show, you will not be disappointed.
I personally had a good time watching it, but the most I can do is 6 stars if I want to be reasonably objective, since the plot is not great and it leaves things open at the end without anything to reflect on.

First of all, there is a LOT of fan service, but most reviews will point that.
The survival aspect of this anime is ok, nothing to write home about.
My biggest gripe about this show is that everything feels like a wasted opportunity.
There is so much fan service (and some boob nudity) that it gets distracting. I'm not a prude and I don't condemn fan service, I get it and even like it when well placed, but here it just feels like it's more important than the plot..
The plot itself is what you'd expect from a zombie/survival horror show at the surface. There's a veeeeery shallow attempt at morality debate, but again, the excess of fan service take away the focus from anything more serious in this show.
Then, when things start to get somewhat interesting a bit further halfway towards the…

This anime even if it has fan service or ecchi content,i really liked the idea of zombie apocalypse and it is one of the animes with Zombie apocalypse that i liked it,and i've seen two animes with zombie apocalypse, this, Highschool of the dead and Zom 100,and Highschool of the dead is on my number one of favorite in this genre.
Animation is great, like those physics are...damn and stuff so i cant say anything bad about the animation.
The story isnt there because its an anime with zombie apocalypse why would you need story in this, and even so the anime or manga arent even finished since the author of the manga passed away unfortunatly...but even so,he did a great job because theres even an anime adaptation.
Overall this anime has a 10/10 from me,i really enjoyed it and liked it,and i've e…

Highschool of the Dead — Zombies, Chaos, and Zero Shame
Holy hell, Highschool of the Dead is an absolute riot.
This show understands exactly what it wants to be and goes full speed in that direction. It is an ecchi anime through and through, so yes, every possible opening gets used for tits, butts, cleavage, accidental camera angles, and all the other glorious nonsense that comes with the territory. Normally that would drag a show down. Here, it ends up making the whole thing even more entertaining. The fanservice gives it a stupid, chaotic energy that somehow works in its favor, because it adds a layer of dumb fun that balances out the grim zombie-apocalypse setting.
And the setting gets properly nasty. The world starts with a simple outbreak in a Japanese school and spirals outward in…

Zombies, comedy and fan service this show has it all from suspenseful moments to great character development this show was a joy from start to finish
Unfortunately, it does end abruptly, but that is due to the manga not being completed because the author sadly passed away so we would never know how this finishes conclusively but I would like to say that they will survive and it ends, but we will never know
The 12 episodes we did was good funny suspenseful and very good watch it’s quite casual. You don’t have to pay attention to every second. It’s even good to have it in the background but if you do pay attention, I’m sure you will enjoy this even though it doesn’t have a conclusive ending
Overall 8 out of 10

HOTD is something very different and thought provoking about human nature, how intense situations can change us and make us bond and how we might not wanna go back after getting used to even something like this.
HOTD is great both as an anime and a piece of zombie media. It has a lot of violence and a lot of fanservice, it also has a lot of gun nerding and these are all sometimes played to an explotation movie degree. Probably very intentional.
You have things like the girls taking a bath together and touching each other's boobs while the guys are gathering guns and making plans. You have absolute hell breaking loose on a bridge while also cutting to the girls sleeping all sexy, back and forth.
I have heard some further analysis through my friend and it seems a lot of it seems to also p…

Oh my gosh, there are so many zombies. Oh my gosh, there are so many boobs. Oh my gosh, there are so many guns. Oh my gosh, there are so many boobs. Oh my gosh, there are so many explosions. Oh my gosh, did I mention all the boobs?
Now if you don't like fan service, do not watch this trailer trash. On the other hand, if you enjoy investing in true anime culture and mindless action, here you go, friend. This story follows our main character who somehow manages to have the greatest marksmanship out of any character in media by about 2 E-cups.
Guilty pleasure.

This is an immortal classic. I discovered this anime back in 2012 when zombie apocalypse phenomenon was almost at its peak. im writing this review in 2025 as to honor this animes legacy and its a damn shame we dont have a second season... This is the only proper anime about zombie apocalypse you will find to this day and it has been 15 years... I dont get why Japanese skip on ZA especially when its so popular but it is what it is. If by any miracle youre reading this and you havent seen this you must watch this it will satisfy your inner teenager if you were into zombie apocalypse.

This anime turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable. I first came across the memes back in 2018, when I was still new to anime, but I avoided it at the time because it was known for the fan service. Watching it now, I genuinely enjoyed both the ecchi and gore elements. The dub also added an unexpected layer of comedy; sometimes it was so bad in serious scenes that I couldn’t help but laugh.
My main criticism is the excessive fan service and the lack of real story progression. That said, once you get past the infamous episode 6, you’re practically immune to it. The show itself is pretty simple, it’s not trying to be deep or well written. It’s just stupidly enjoyable, a bada$ action anime with over-the-top fan service.
Overall, I’d give it a 7/10. It could’ve been higher if a second season…

I've watched it as a child and remembered it being good. I don't remember the fanservice much but I did remember loving the zombie genre. I think if I were to watch it again, I'd probably rate it lower because of the fanservice. However, I refuse to waste my time on watching this anime again. I don't really have thoughts on it but I wouldn't recommend it as a beginner anime, even though this was one of the first anime's I've watched as a kid back in 2016. I only really watched it because I loved horror and zombie genere as a kid. But looking from the scenes I see online, I probably wouldn't have watched it. For a zombie genre I'd say its pretty good.
I hated the last episode though, it was very unnecessary and should be removed from the show honestly.

Now, usually I don't watch anything that is considered a hentai since majority of them suck. However, this show, especially the dubbed version, was hilarious.
Bad parts: The boob physics are astronomically bad and unrealistic, there's the typical flashing and excessive nudity, and a somewhat lack of character development, especially for some female characters.
Good parts: The battle scenes are amazing, the animation quality is well done, the voice acting for sub and dub are also phenomenal (dubbed being ten times funnier), the story actually having a good plot that could've been developed more into an action anime rather than a hentai.
My final thoughts of HSOTD is that, ignoring the bad parts, it has a lot of potential to become something amazing. Personally, I found that the script an…

Hello. First of all, I want to mention that I watched this anime several years ago, so I'm speaking purely from memory. The reason I'm writing this review is because the anime keeps popping into my mind, and it was actually my first one. I know... Anyway, I want to share what surprised me positively and why this anime got me into the anime world. It wasn’t the animation or the fan service, it was the positive, good feeling it left behind in the end. It taught me how important unity is, and with the little bit of comedy on the side, it was just perfect. The stressful situations felt truly epic, and the characters were unique. Of course, you can always complain, and other anime have very different characters, but this review is only about Highschool of the Dead.
About the fan service: Yes,…

Guns. Swords. Romance. Fanservice. Harem. Zombies. What do these things have in common? If you couldn’t tell already, they’re combined together to make a show called High School of the Dead. From the title alone, you would think that this is your average zombie blockbuster but in anime and… that’s because it really is. This used to be my shit when I watched the hell out of it as a kid. Yeah, it had a lot of gory and nude stuff shown but some scenes with excellent production are what caught my attention. Looking at it now, the animation behind it aged well but the story content certainly doesn’t. This isn’t just your average zombie popcorn entertainment, there are a lot of problems we need to consider.
The story starts with our lead, Komuro Takashi, hanging around in high school. But sudde…

High School of the Dead, often discredited for being an ecchi, offers more of a story than one would expect. To start things off, each of the characters serves a purpose, and the mc isn't the stereotypical nerd we've all come to expect in ecchi. The situations the characters find themselves in, forces them to take drastic measures, and reveal their true intentions, which I really liked. Gore and blood are present of course, but not in a shocking kind of way (take Elfen Lied for example). And the ecchi parts are obvious, but they don't detract from the story due to how interesting the characters are. There's even a reference to George Romero movies! When it comes to the negatives, there honestly isn't much I can criticize, apart from the fact literal breasts are used as a firearm stock (is…

It's amazing how overblown and exaggerated it was, the way people would always describe the fan service in this show to me. The only point I could agree on is that it's out-of-place a lot of the time. Sure, tits don't tend to jiggle like spanked jello every time a girl stands up or sits down, and bullets will not fly dynamically around one boob, through the grand canyon and back out past the other. But I gotta say, for how much people told me this show is ruined by fan service, I feel deliberately misled. There was plenty of action scenes, and like I said the fan service is placed into moments where it's pretty goddamn distracting, but the amount of it?
Ecchi, to me, is when plot elements are REPLACED by jiggling tits and panty shots - that or those ARE the plot - and nothing more to be s…

High School of the Dead is one of those animes that make me question, can an echii appeal also be a masterpiece?
There was something seriously different in Japan during this era of anime that even echii fan service had amazing production value.
The story is about zombies, survival, guns, and fan service, all in an adult gorey showcase. In a way, the echi comedy is really a satire aimed at most high school anime and the action genre as a whole. With big guns, cute girls being eaten, a hot harem trio, and action scenes. This show is anything but boring. In fact, the real downside is that the story needs a second season.
So concerning the fan service, I am truly at odds at how serious I should be rating anime. I mean, this show is amazing....but it has clear sexual appeal.....but the fig…
