The idea of a prison essentially being a deadly amusement park where the inmates have to fight for survival is an interesting and unique idea on paper, but the execution left a lot to be desired.
While the show started off strong, the plot became rather messy around the part where we meet the former members of Scar Chain and the undertakers. Character introductions, as well as the arcs that followed were rushed and many things were left unexplained, only making sense if one has read the manga.
I really wanted to like this anime more, but it only being 12 episodes long and lacking a second season certainly did not help its case, which is very unfortunate, as it also did a lot of things right. The animation and soundtrack for example were superb, which is why I still gave it a relatively…

this anime is pretty good actually, even though it's kinda rushed. i think they did a pretty good job. the story is good, the plot, the characters and the hype. although it's disappointing that it only have 12 epidsodes.
the animation is good and the fighting scenes are good, they did not disappoint me. this anime is underrated, this deserves more recognition.
i'm really glad i gave it a try, so if you're planning to watch this, you probably should. it's worth your time. one of the best of this kinds everything was fantastic and i had a great time watching it.

For everyone that watched this back in highschool, u guys gotta give it a rewatch after the age of 21 and see how bad it holds up.
Interesting premise for sure, too bad the story itself doesn't really go in depth into most of the interesting stuff.
Great art style, the colour and art gives off classic 90s anime vibes like akira. Thats what makes it even more disappointing with how artistically pleasant the anime looks.
Rushed, edgy, and for something with so much mature elements, the story comes off somewhat childish (for the lack of a better word) and boring. The worst thing about it is that we could see the pieces of an intriguing story but its all executed so poorly it hurts. Plus all the censorship makes u think "damn, this must've look super kewl in the manga" lol.

A banally boring, edgy mess of a show with a sprinkle of good ideas and no pay-off.
It’s almost refreshing to look back on how transparently uninteresting Deadman Wonderland was. It leans into edge so thoroughly that it becomes predictably cringeworthy, but the kicker is how this season builds and builds without ever rewarding our anticipation. In spite of events happening and characters interacting, you come out of the series with no sense of progress, attachment, or intrigue. I’d like to give it the benefit of doubt as a potentially mangled adaptation, though I can’t be bothered to verify this possibility.

Brutal how quickly this anime went from maybe a solid 8 to a <5 around episode 4.
As every other review has pointed out, it starts promising; the situation is unique, the characters seem engaging, and the art is pretty good too. Unfortunately it completely loses the sauce when it decides to become a superpower battle shonen. What could have been an interesting commentary on privatized prisons, corruption, and apathy became... a short-lived superpower tournament arc?... and then a rushed and poorly written resistance plot?
The tournament arc was genuinely offensive how bad it was; it sidelined the plot without making up for it with good action or character building. This is around where Ganta develops into a tremendously awful and annoying character with zero redeeming qualities except p…

Deadman Wonderland is a dark and thrilling anime that hooks you with its unique premise: a privatized prison disguised as a twisted amusement park. The story follows Ganta, a wrongfully convicted teenager, as he navigates this brutal world, uncovering secrets about his mysterious powers and his enigmatic friend, Shiro. The pacing is tight, the characters are well-developed, and the emotional stakes are high, making it an engaging watch from start to finish.
However, the anime’s biggest downfall is its lack of continuation. The first season ends on a cliffhanger, leaving major plot threads unresolved and countless questions unanswered. It’s frustrating because the series had so much potential to explore its rich world and complex characters further. While I thoroughly enjoyed the intense a…

Deadman Wonderland is a gory, gritty, and action-packed story of fear, high-stakes, and comraderie.
With its mature and blood-covered visuals, Deadman Wonderland tells a tale of friendship and how love surpasses any fear. Without spoiling the reader, it plays off the idea, "What if there was a place where the worst of the worst gathered? How would people survive? And what would they do to stay alive in such a place?"
Despite plenty of despair, horror, and the constant fear of backstabbing, Deadman Wonderland lays out the story of Ganta, who learns that once you find your true allies, you could survive even the most dire conditions. It's a harrowing tale about love and hate, fear and courage, and doing everything you have to do to survive.
But I must stress this point; it is a gore-heavy…

Entertaining show from start to end. Good OP/ED. The original BGM was likewise good. Good likeable cast of characters. Especially Shiro but that was an easy one given who is voicing the character. Thats always a win.
Story is pretty wild, and lots happen in short amount of episodes. The mystery surrounding the events, both in prison but also the backstory of the even taking place in Tokyo and the Main Characters life leading up to the prison where the show is taking place, is very exciting and i was always looking forward to learning more about it.
Unfortunely this is one of those shows that ends in the middle, where you never get the full story because it was made during the mangas time and unfortunely never got another season to finish it up when the manga was finished. So if you enj…

An amazing anime I watched a few years back, it's really sad that it's not getting season 2 & more.
At the time it was released, it had the best art, color & all necessary factors for an anime.
People who like soft animes may not prefer this, but people who like animes that cannot be easily guessed or have a lot of unexpected events would definitely love this anime. The characters were properly portrayed & there was no unnecessary artwork or character work.
Story-wise it's amazing, just imagine a school kid with no tough life experience is thrown into a prison of literal monsters.
I really wish to watch season 2.

Deadman Wonderland is a very amusing story from beginning to end. It's a story so good it makes people complain there aren't more seasons.
The Art: You honestly can't complain. Clean shaders, amazing animation, style and effects.
Sound: Amazing. Still memorable after all these years. Intro is iconic.
Characters: very enjoyable to watch and need more of. Only the side-side characters suck. But that's in almost all anime.
The difference with the manga and the anime is that as usual the anime sometimes does not give enough screentime to other characters in this show, like giving an indepth episode to each Deadman, etc.
The story:
Some complain about this and that overall forgetting that the manga continues passed these 12 episodes. This first season only had time for 1 arc and that was div…

This show had SO MUCH PROMISE in the beginning. I was looking forward to getting this anime off my "planned for later" list, but alas, it did not live up to the expectations that I had in mind. The first couple of episodes were honestly God Tier and made me want to binge, however, I believe this anime fell into the 12-episode curse, where so much started happening, that nothing felt important, and lost its way. By what I recall the 5th episode, this show started feeling like a chore to watch and stopped being entertaining. I couldn't tell you the premise after that episode. I think it banked off the gore aspect and put little thought elsewhere.
If you want to watch this show, go for it, I am sure there is an audience, because it has become a cult classic. but in the end, I was left feeli…

So, you're telling me we've got a prison that doubles as an amusement park? Sign me up—oh wait, maybe not actually sign me up, that place is nuts! "Deadman Wonderland" throws you into this wild ride, and just when you're buckled in, it goes off the rails... and not entirely in the way the manga did.
Look, if you're a die-hard fan of the manga, brace yourself. The anime takes some, let's say, "creative detours." It's like ordering a pepperoni pizza and getting one with pineapple. Some of you might love the surprise, while others... not so much.
That said, as its own beast, the anime is a blast. Action-packed, intense, and with characters that'll make you go, "Did he just...? Yep, he did." But if you're hoping for all the answers by the end, you're in for a cliffhanger that makes those soa…

Unfortunately, my experience watching Deadman Wonderland was not very satisfactory. Overall, I found the anime weak and disappointing, with a quite annoying protagonist who didn't add much to the plot. Additionally, the main girl was often sexualized in an unpleasant way, which bothered me quite a bit.
Although the premise of the story is interesting, the overall development of the anime left much to be desired. It was difficult for me to emotionally connect with most of the characters and their journeys.
However, I must say that Senji Kyomasa and Nagi were the only characters that really caught my attention. Their unique personalities and well-crafted motivations kept me interested and engaged in the story.
Despite everything, Deadman Wonderland may still be a good choice for fans of t…

Deadman Wonderland is not a bad anime. It has a lot of elements that make It interesting like its world and its characters. The aesthetic of the show is also very nice. The problem is that the elements that make it good could've been a lot better. This show had a lot of potential in all its aspects and none of them reach their full potential. Some people say you should read the manga instead because it has a better ending and it's laid out better. I don't think it's an anime that you need to watch but at the same time, it's not something that you should avoid watching. It's just there lol. That's why my rating is 5/10. It's not bad but not good either. Could've been better and again, the strong points are there. Mainly, the aesthetic, the characters, and the world. But none reached their f…

Deadman wonderland, the amazing first season of a series that would never be. Chained to mediocrity not by its art, characters, or plot but by its lack of continuation. Leaving the viewer wanting so much more yet painfully asking "that's it!?"
Deadman wonderland is quite an interesting and entertaining anime. An anime with lots of promise for the road ahead. Its characters are portrayed very well, being dynamic with conflict and exciting yet with much mystery as to their full motivations and backstory. The story is captivating and entertaining to watch unfold, yet also holds an air of mystery as to how the story will end, what conclusion we will find, and why the events of this story are taking place. (Not to mention the animation is quite good. However, admittedly I've never been one to…

I don't usually write reviews but this show is getting undeserved hate.
the show knows what it is doing and delivers it perfectly. the direction is good and it isn't a bad adaptation at all. it delivered what it promised.
the studio went bankrupt after an year so there won't be a second seasason thus the story is imcomplete but it doesn't leave off at an unsatisfactory moment. you'll have to read about 30 chapters after the show.
it has some pretty violent themes especially blood and gore is excessive. so' you should avoid it if it isn't to your taste. and if you dislike it after watching then my friend, the show's description and genre tags make it clear what you are getting into so it's your fault for not doing any research before starting the show.

How I finished this anime is beyond me.
I have so many questions that were never answered because of the horrible timing in this series. It had so much potential that was wasted. If shows going off track of the original plot doesn't bother you as much as me I would give it a try.
For starters, the idea of this brutal prison that makes its prisoners fight to survive is thrown out the window half way through the show as the characters decide to focus on escaping instead.
It started out with the prisoners playing life or death games in order to get the antidote to a poison being injected into them through a collar. But Ganta then awakens a power where he can use his blood as a weapon and he's now apart of the "Deadmen" who have to do one-on-one battles and the loser loses a random body par…

First off, I don't have a problem with Deadman Wonderland. It was a pretty good and entertaining anime. Plus, in my opinion, the dub was pretty funny and decent. The theme song slaps and the story was well told. Most of the characters were great and helped to push the story forward. But have you ever watched an anime where you despised the main character? And or thought that they were unfit to be the main character? Well, get ready for Ganta, one of the most pointless and useless main characters around. I understand that he went through a horrible experience and he's just a kid thrown to the wolves. But, that does not give him an excuse to be as toxic a person as he is. I feel like every time Ganta takes a step forward in his character development the next scene pushes him 2 or 3 steps bac…

Deadman Wonderland is a really interesting show because I would say it is the ultimate six out of ten. While this show has a pretty shitty story I can say that all other aspects of the show are pretty alright. The art style isn't bad and a lot of the gore is very detailed so if you're into that it's a plus, the main character isn't a piece of shit and I actually ended up liking him a lot more than I initially thought I would. The show can honestly be pretty funny sometimes as well, but I don't know if that's on purpose. The side characters are usually pretty good but when it comes to the villains it's really 50/50. The ending song is an honest bop and I listened to it fully every episode.
In my honest opinion, you should give this show a shot, the story is a dumpster fire but sometimes it…

6/10 Fair - Dystopian, action, sci-fi shonen
The story offers a unique premise in a semi-dystopian Tokyo of a near future, tackling some dark elements where morality intersects with: scientific research, systems of punitive law, & the excesses of hedonism. The artistic style and music compliment the plot and themes well, and there is enough action & suspense to keep the viewer watching.
We have the main protagonist (Ganta) who is suddenly thrust into the challenges of a new unforgiving world, along with a raw expanding cast of characters. Each demonstrate their own unique flair & skills as the story progresses. The story tries to strike a delicate balance between the conflict of an innocent protagonist against a dark world, while also presenting a protagonist bold enough to overcome thos…
