Togainu no Chi

Togainu no Chi

Introduction

In the wake of a third world war which left Japan in ruins, an organization known as Vischio seized control of Tokyo and renamed it Toshima. Taking place in its back alleys are battle games known as Igura, overseen by the Vischio, in which contestants battle and bathe in each other's blood to earn the chance to go up against its tournament's king, Il-re. Igura is not the only fighting tournament around; Bl@ster is a similar yet vastly different game since it prohibits murder and the use of weapons. The only way to win is by knocking out the opponent. Akira, a young man isolated from his family, is known to be undefeatable at Bl@ster. However, his life on the top is shattered when he is accused of murder. Unable to prove his own innocence, all hope is seemingly lost... that is until a mysterious woman named Emma appears and offers him a chance. Now, to regain his freedom, Akira must participate in Igura and ultimately defeat Il-re. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I have played the game back in the day and recently decided to jump back into the game as well as watch the anime adaption. I have to say that I've enjoyed the anime, not as much as the game but it still has its own merits. The soundtrack for the most part was better than the OST of the game and having a constantly changing credits song really added to it. I liked how the characters were portrayed and their interactions with each other. The anime added some new scenes to further build up the relationships and were a very welcome addition. The watching experience was a little rough though, it felt like the scenes were too static than they should be and it felt like the visual novel had more action than the anime which should portray the fighting scenes more vibrantly and well... action…

This review was written by two people; my (the owener of this account) review is at the bottom, and my friend's is at the top. -- When I was around 14 years old I was recommended togainu no chi by a person whom I don’t talk to anymore. Did I enjoy the censored playthrough I watched on youtube? Not much. Did I recommend the anime to my friend as a joke nonetheless? Yes. So this is my fault really. As a kid I was a big fan of watching bad bl anime on purpose to point and laugh at how absurd it was, I was trying to rekindle the magic by watching the Togainu no Chi anime adaptation and unfortunately I was mostly just bored. Togainu is an adaptation of a gory BL game with the same name, from the same studio that gave the world yaoi jesus in Dramatical Murder. Sorry for two pitting two girls a…

Listen, I am coming to this anime as a die-hard fan of the Visual Novel, and I am willing to play defence against any detractors. It is an incredibly well-written vn with many hard-hitting action sequences, intriguing themes and a good balance between tragedy and heartfelt moments. The anime, however... Well... Let’s talk about the things I liked first. There are some nice sequences, particularly during the fight scenes. They're very hard-hitting and keep a good balance of stylishness and realism. Shiki's in particular were very captivating, I can tell that my little emo princess was lavished with most of the budget :/ All the characters end up becoming really Flanderized, though to differing extents. Rin gets the brunt of this with a lot of dialogue that develops his character being cu…

I liked it. It had potential, but it failed to adequately flesh out the characters/character-relationships & story. It just didn't flow & explain the backstory well enough for those of us who haven't read the manga, novel or visual novel. Which made some parts a bit confusing. Also, what happened to the bl? There was nothing boys-love about this anime, which was disappointing. I mean, I didn't expect explicit, but there wasn't even a hint bl, not even implied, it was more bromance if anything. Still, I liked it, it was average. I certainly didn't dislike it, I just think it had potential to do much more. Maybe if I read the manga/novel & play the visual novel it will make more sense.

This review is kinda biased. I played the original game and even own some figures of the characters. And I must say that I had so much fun watching this. Let's start with the story A story of a multiple stories visual novel is always hard to adapt in an anime format. But here ? It was great. They tooks scenes from each characters routes, changed a few things and it made sense. They also added new scenes (mostly around the end) that go well with the flow of the game. It's maybe still a bit complex, I wished they spend more time explaining the situation of Akira when he was still a bl@ster player and more time on the ending. The art is the thing I can't stand up for The art is very inconscistent from one episode to another. I must say that aroud half of the anime I kinda liked it. But at t…

Okay. I went into this anime with very low expectations. I'm currently writing this because some of these reviews make it seem like this anime is awful. It's not btw. It isn't some jaw dropping show but I enjoyed it. Quick Review: If you want a quick dystopian anime to watch, I recommend it. To start off, I played the game. The anime does a pretty good job at including parts of each of the games character routes (there are 5 in the game) and making it a coherent story for the most part. Some things were left out, but it's understandable being a 12 episode anime. If you're only watching the anime and haven't played the game though, I'm sure its going to cause some confusion while watching. I personally liked how it focused on the story more, but there are very little elements of BL. The…

Togainu no Chi This anime was, very up close and personal. I love anime that contains violence, blood, and especially death, even dismemberment Because I literally can find nothing or no anime exciting more that besides psychological anime. But, that type is on a whole different wave length then the previous ones that I mentioned earlier. This anime literally had me so very excited. I hate how animes like this one has, so few episodes. I wanted it to be so much longer then it was. Nonetheless. This anime was gory and awesome. I love gore. But, I didn't care much for the ending though. I feel like it ended on a cliff hanger, and that there is more to the story then what is going on or hopefully there will be more seasons. I want more of this anime. A great deal more.

I thought that Togainu no Chi is a very interesting series for those that are interested in genres such as post-apocalyptical and dystopia. For me being a person who's interested in history and the growth of a country and region developing overtime, this anime was right up my alley. I liked seeing the concept of Japan being split into two different regions such as Toshima after the third division. It made a huge impact on me to reflect and be grateful that we are not in another world war. It really does remind me of a "what if theory" and a decision on if other countries such as the U.S, Britain, Germany and many more, who were involved in World War ll, were to be in a third world war that actually happened in todays modern day society. How would it shape us as humans and the harsh problem…

This is a show that is best enjoyed going in blind. So I’ll do my best reviewing this anime without spoiling anything by putting my thoughts on it as brief as possible by saying you NEED to watch this show! It has a lot of twists and the story is unpredictable and it gives you a rush and engages you like very few anime can nowadays. Many anime these days play it safe and don’t take risks by being as dark and bleak as shows from the 80s-90s. If you are an oldtaku or are someone who enjoys older anime, this anime captures the rush that anime like Kite and Violence Jack did. The only issue I can see putting people off is that the animation isn’t the best (the worst of it is at the final episode, but it holds up well till then. It isn’t as bad as the final episodes of Neon Genesis!), but do…

Some potential was wasted with this anime. Despite this, it's not as horrible as it seems. The story could've been done better. Honestly, if it were a bit longer, it might've turned out a bit better since there'd be more room for backstories and flashbacks that're essential to getting to know a character. Also, while it may seem that the story started good but went off track, everything was eventually wrapped up in the end. Thinking about it now has made me realize that I actually liked how certain things played out. The ending was relatively good but I just wish I knew more. From what I've heard about the video game, some things were left out. I'm not talking about the yaoi because, as a person who has not played the video game, I don't actually care about that. A yaoi game should equal…

After being devastated in the third World War (known as The Third Division), Japan was divided in two. Several years after the end of the war, a crime organization called Vischio has taken control of the destroyed city of Toshima (formerly Tokyo, Japan's capital city), where they are holding a battle game known as "Igura". The main character, a young man named Akira, is falsely accused of a crime. Once arrested, a mysterious woman appears before him, offering him freedom if he agrees to participate in Igura and defeat Igura's strongest man: the king, or "Il-Re". The story follows Akira's life in the harsh, lawless Toshima as he fights both to survive and to unravel the mysteries developing around him. My thoughts: I so wish this anime was in engish dub because I had a lot of trouble unde…

I came to this anime expecting BL, and instead found a lot of misery, death, bloodbaths, more misery, senseless character deaths, quasi-existential yammering, more death, more blood, and a feeling of dissatisfaction and pointlessness. I haven't played the BL game or read the manga and I suppose I should have checked the reviews before watching this so I could have avoided this exercise in anime-watching masochism. There is literally no emotional pay-off to watching this. At all. The good guys don't win. The bad guys don't lose. The bad guys also don't really win. Nobody really wins or loses, everything is miserable. The one character development arc that had a little potential gets cut short (haha... ha..) with some more senseless death. I keep trying to care about the characters, but t…

I enjoyed this anime a lot, I wish there was a second season. The characters and the designs were quite satisfying. Entering this some what dystopian world, it was most intriguing though the protagonist's eyes. The plot isn't that sophisticated but still introduced elements that may be further developed in the manga and ideas that can be further explored in-game. It felt short with only 12 episodes to watch but was enjoyable and interesting nonetheless. I did not read the manga or play the games, but I like this genre; however for those who did, some have been disappointed with the anime. I believe the fact that they even made an anime for it was great, it brings their characters to life and provide them with something of a genre to their liking at the very least. I rate it as very good. A…

This is a bad anime...as far as the visual goes. In the sense that during pretty much any of the fight scenes(especially big fights), the camera is never ON the characters. The only time you really get to see any fighting is just a typical punch or kick and clashing of sword/knives. Another thing is the blood...it is literally this bright red color. Completely unrealistic. That being said as poor as the visual are, I actually enjoyed this anime. The story was a bit ehh at times and it felt like it was trying to do a bit too much at one time. That being said, the story was engaging enough for me to get into. But what makes the anime so amazing is the fact that the characters really engaged me. I was rooting for many of them and their storylines and development and I think this anime truly…

So first off I'll say that I never played the game or read the manga unlike a lot of people who have left reviews on this anime. Anyway I'll start with my thoughts on the sound. At certain moments the sound seemed delayed or didn't fit the scene which annoys me to no end. At times Akira's voice acting seemed overdone or like the actor was trying too hard. I've noticed that a lot of people called the plot confusing. I don't understand that at all. I was able to follow the plot just fine and I don't necessarily follow most anime plots well. There were really no sudden twists or anything left unexplained. I know people say the characters aren't well developed but I disagree. The only characters who didn't really have a background were the "villians" and it wouldn't have really fit in with t…

I do not understand the previous reviewer's because these BL animes (especially Nitro+Chiral) are based off BL mangas and computer games. The anime adaptations are made for popular (regular) TELEVISION in Japan. They cannot show explicit scenes let alone BL explicit scenes. So of course they are not going to show the explicit yummy stuff we find online/game and in the mangas ... it is not "an embarrassment to the BL genre" because they are not doing explicit scenes in the anime; they are actually doing the BL genre a great service! They are expanding the audience for future BL customers. ^___~; If you like the storyline and/or characters from the anime, then you would want the explicit stuff they expect you to purchase via the computer game or in the manga. The anime is to get you inve…

Small spoiler! This anime is definitely....different. That's really the best way to describe it. I really wanted to write a review for this one even though I don't do it often because I just wanted to elaborate on all the what dafuqery that is going on. Story 5/10 First of all the story is pretty simple and easy to follow until it decides to take a left turn out of no where every 2 episode. Once you think you know whats happening it completely changes directions on you with hardly any explanation at all. Though I have to admit that while in the beginning I strongly felt like dropping the anime about half way through I felt myself being pulled along constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next but I think that was only because my brain was so lost that I wanted to constantly ha…

Ho boy here we go. I knew one day I was going to actually write out a review for this lovely piece of work, and today is that day. For a little background on this piece, this anime is based off of the first BL visual novel released in 2005 by a branch of Nitroplus called Nitro+CHiRAL. This visual novel then got a manga series in 2006, and finally this anime came out in 2010. This anime was supposed to be the 5th year celebration of this game. Instead of being a celebration though, this anime right here is the perfect example of what not to do with a visual novel. There are just so many things wrong with this anime that it is just mind boggling. Let's start with the story first. Now the anime tries to follow the story of the visual novel in a way, but it ends up becoming a jumbled mes…

Despite the pretty... odd storyline, I know if I hadn't watched this anime I would not have been introduced into the amazing world of nitro+chiral. Good points: Nice artwork Great Soundtrack Character designs are fantastic The world is very immersive. Bad points: Story was..meh- the ending was weird and the whole thing didn't have the gravity or passion of the game. The lack of BL. there wasn't any, and that's what people were expecting. It all got progressively worse- it started off well. I hadn't played the game so it was new an interesting for me... but gradually, it got worse and worse. All I have to say is: If you are not familiar with BL or the game, and enjoy philosophical, dark, blood-drenched worlds, then this anime is worth a shot. If you have seen the game- don't bother.

(this is my first review, don't mind me -lol) The first time I watched I thought it was just... lame. Because I, honestly, was expecting more bl. I mean, I did enjoy the story, but I was still wanting for more. I really hade hope on Togainu no Chi. And then I found out it was an BL game adaptation. I played the whole game, and it just turned out to be amazing. Then I watched the anime a second time, keeping a few points in my mind: - ANY adaptation won't be as good as the original, with few exceptions. - It was a TV show, so there couldn't be much BL. - They needed to explain the whole story, so they'd pick the fragments of every route in the game that are really essential for the plot. So the ending won't be necessarily equal as one in the game. And it turned out to be an amazing anime…
