Durarara!!

Durarara!!

Introduction

In Tokyo's downtown district of Ikebukuro, amidst many strange rumors and warnings of anonymous gangs and dangerous occupants, one urban legend stands out above the rest—the existence of a headless "Black Rider" who is said to be seen driving a jet-black motorcycle through the city streets. Mikado Ryuugamine has always longed for the excitement of the city life, and an invitation from a childhood friend convinces him to move to Tokyo. Witnessing the Black Rider on his first day in the city, his wishes already seem to have been granted. But as supernatural events begin to occur, ordinary citizens like himself, along with Ikebukuro's most colorful inhabitants, are mixed up in the commotion breaking out in their city. I loved the first part; the plot centered on the Headless Horseman was brilliant and thought-provoking. I liked that each episode was narrated by a different character. However, I didn't enjoy the second part. I feel it had much more potential than just a misunderstanding between friends, and it was resolved by talking about something that could have been addressed in previous episodes. I feel there are many storylines that could have been better, which left me with the feeling that the potential wasn't fully realized. I really liked the variety of characters and that each one had their own story, which means there isn't a single main character, and that gives the story flexibility. Regarding the antagonist, I like that he manipulates everything, but I feel that many characters realize…

The anime is fantastic. The story and everything else are amazing too. It’s a nice touch that the yakuza gangs are portrayed as intelligent people rather than mindless thugs. While every character is well-developed, there are two that stand out for me; the others feel like they were just added to add some color. The first is Heiwajima Shizou, and the second is Orihara Izaya... The atmosphere is good, but to be honest, some scenes and certain characters’ personalities are incredibly annoying. For example, the fact that Orihara’s sisters are lesbians. The relationship between the doctor and Celty is also boring. These scenes feel pointless to me. That doctor actually had the potential to be a great character, but they failed to pull it off; in the end, he became just an ordinary character, s…

When I was a teenager deep in my fujoshi era I got baited into watching this show because it had twinks on it. That was 12 years ago, I rewatched it to see if it was as weird as I remember it and it is lol THE OPENING IS SOOOO GOOD!!!! Like for the last 12 years it has never left my playlist. That's probably the best part of the show. I think the urban vibes and environment were handled super well, I truly feel like I'm this giant city full of life and I'm excited to see more!! Nice! But as I said a little earlier, the show is weird. The pacing is awkward and there's way too many characters with their own little plots and I'm not sure how to feel about it. I was super into Celty and her story so I found it really boring when it wasn't about her because idrc about the other characters t…

The Awesome Stuff in Durarara!! The huge and diverse cast: From Celty Sturluson, Mikado Ryuugamine, Masaomi Kida, Anri Sonohara, Izaya Orihara, and Shizuo Heiwajima, to the car gang, Simon the Russian guy, and so many more — every single character feels unique and well-written. Seriously, it’s one of the strongest character lineups you’ll see in anime. Storytelling and narrative style: One of Durarara!!’s biggest strengths is how it tells its story. Everything’s connected, but you only see the full picture bit by bit through different points of view. At first it feels kinda confusing, but as the episodes go on, you start piecing things together like a giant puzzle. The writing is super clever, it keeps the mystery alive while constantly showing you familiar events from new angles that co…

Durarara!! is a very fast paced, very intense anime. It throws a lot of events and details at you, then suddenly pulls back to add more context while you try to figure everything out. If you can stick with it its a very satisfying show that deeply rewards an attentive audience. The characters are very well written, they might seem dumb or shallow at first but as you get into things and give them time to grow and gain depth they end up making a lot of sense. There's a lot of re-ocuring themes within them that create a very natural and strong feeling chemestry. Some very top notch stuff. My main problem is the entire last third of the show basically falls flat on its face. Previous arcs were intense mysteries full of danger and suspense. The last one is, really predictable. Its extremely…

TLDR - this whole show is redundant, looks promising but a big waste of time the only reason I've watched this show is due to its high rank, which i honestly have no idea why would someone (and plenty of them) recommend this thing. First of all, there are way too many storylines in the series that they tried to squeeze into a small amount of episodes, and somehow they managed to make it look like nothing was happening in the episodes, with most of them being boring. One of the reviews that made me want to finish the series was that "all the storylines come together for an epic ending." Well, no, far from epic – the ending of the series was ridiculous, stupid, meaningless, disappointing, and childish. Focusing on the three main storylines that run throughout the series and are the main…

This show is best watched without spoiling yourself on any of the content in advance. Going into this show pretty much completely blind, having not even read the synopsis, allowed for a really good experience that gradually opened up the world more and more as each episode built upon the previous. The show takes place in a part of Tokyo with a very colorful cast of characters and is essentially about how they interact with each other on small and large scales. There are reality stretching physics and supernatural elements, but they're largely confined to a few of the characters. Watching this show, including the other seasons and specials, was a great time. Everything is well grounded in the world and has its own logic, even when things go completely whack! It was delightful that the ani…

Being simple and direct. A great anime to watch with great plot and a 8/10 development of characters even the side characters that appear for 10-20 minutes throughout the anime. A simple watch and doesn't have a lot of hidden meaning in it. The characters have a distinct personality between themselves and even the foil characters are different enough from one another. The plot is a solid 8/10 not a lot there is to say it needs to be better except the fact it has a strange speed at times. The overall world is a solid 10/10 it really couldn't feel more alive, subplots happening at every instance with great coerence and people feel like people with their lives but sometimes with similar paths, ideas and such. Great watch, would recommend.

Duraras first part. Which ive rated an 8. The following 3 parts dropped to a 7. So it was enjoyable all the way through but first season hit the soft spot. The story was fun. The way all events were glued together. The connections between events. Its fun and diverse list of characters. What happened after this though is they added more and more characters. Stories. The show eventually lost its focus and felt bloated. Why it dropped to a nu 7. But again first part was great all around great first OP. Loved the first ED although some might think its to western. Great cast of voice actors. Characters. The mystery of the story and events. Unfortunely they never clear up in a satisfactory way why again it dropped after first part. But recommended. 8/10. Even later parts they are just not as…

A little bit of a series retrospective here. I haven't seen Durarara since it came out and would never rewatch it. In my mind, it is one of the original massively overrated series of my childhood, with baffling storytelling and focus problems that ruin everything good about it. Let me start with an analogy: imagine JK Rowling creates the world of Harry Potter, filled with wizards, magic, lore, history, a haunted castle, centaurs, giant spiders, elves, soul-stealing dark phantoms, dragons, etc. But as she's writing it she decides, "no, Harry Potter is too much a chosen one type and involved with interesting people, secrets, and high stakes drama. Instead, let's make Dudley the protagonist because he can learn about all the interesting stuff as a three-times-removed bystander who never act…

First, let's talk about that soundtrack. It's... amazing! There's this kind of colorful vibe from the music, even when Ikebukuro itself feels, well, a bit colorless at times. The whole contrast thing? It's pretty cool. The story? Completely nailed it. All these bits and pieces, different stories and threads, they just magically come together by the end. It's kind of like the chaos of our city, but everything somehow makes sense in the end. I was so drawn in, I nearly binged it all... but after that intense 14th episode, I had to take a short break. You know, to catch my breath and prepare for whatever came next. Character-wise? Heiwajima stands out for sure. The guy's got this straightforward nature but is sharp when it counts. And Izaya? Man, I've got mixed feelings about him. You kinda…

It was worth the watch ill say that. The characters and plot is all pretty interesting I could see my self loving a few of them but I guess thats more in isolation. The narration and handling of the themes are honestly so "fake deep" that it gets annoying. It constantly explains everyone's internal conflict when it all speaks of itself. The characters don't know how to communicate at all and the story will pretend that everyone had a realization without communicating instead of sitting them down to have a 5 minute conversation. And yeah I know people keep secrets but I'm talking about after everyone wants to open up. They'll all decide to speak up but you never see it, the story pretends its all resolved like they saw into eachothers souls or something. It's not something I'd recommend, th…

Durarara!! was a pleasant surprise. The characters were cool, especially Masaomi Kida, Celty Sturluson, and Izaya Orihara; not well written but cool nonetheless. They really draw you into the show and the city, most notably Celty, and Izaya. Apparently, this show was made by the creator of Baccanno and I'm not surprised. Events and actions seemingly flowed and connected with one another, but unlike Baccanno are centered around the entertainment district known as Ikebukuro. This really made Ikebukuro feel real and alive (no pun intended). It reminded me of my own cities Dundas Square, I couldn't help but connect the two. In Summary, Durarara was a nice watch, it had a unique plot with a wide variety of interesting and unique characters, I give it a 7.5!! *The Show also gave me a lot of Per…

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Today, we're going to take a look at an anime that's equal parts mystery, drama, and supernatural phenomena. That's right, I'm talking about Durarara!!, an anime that's got more twists and turns than a roller coaster at Alton Towers. Set in the bustling city of Ikebukuro, Durarara!! follows the lives of a group of eccentric and intriguing characters, each with their own secrets and agendas. From the headless rider on a motorcycle to the information broker who knows everything about everyone, this anime is packed with colorful personalities that will keep you on the edge of your seat. But don't be fooled by its seemingly light-hearted nature, for Durarara!! is also a masterclass in storytelling, weaving a complex web of interconnected plotlines that wi…

Despite being a far cry from other more notable Takahiro Omori titles (Baccano!, Haibane Renmei, Hell Girl, Natsume's Book of Friends, Hotarubi no Mori e), more than a decade since it's release Durarara!! continues to be a part of the zeitgeist. However, in spite of the durability of the hype surrounding it, I can only think of two elements of this show that make it worth watching. 1) It's aura of mystique - it oozes of rich lore of urban legends saturating the streets of Ikebukuro 2) It's mesmerizing score - an absolute vibe These components alone are reason enough to sit through 24 episodes meandering through who-knows-what. Beyond these two components, Durarara!! lacks the substance to live up to the artistic reputation the show has garnered. The characters aren't particularly likabl…

No Spoilers :) Durarara (and its successive seasons) is an interesting anime that I found after watching Baccano. Both made by Brain Base, I am starting to really dig their work. Instead of having fantastic animation, art, or soundtracks, it really offers something that the entire anime scene lacks, CHARACTER(s). Like Baccano, Durarara is all about the cast. You love them, you hate them, you ride the roller coaster with them. There isn't really anything "epic" about the story, and as a matter of fact there really isn't anything extraordinary that makes the story good. Not only that, you do have to dedicate time to this series (just like many narrative driven stories, think monogatari). If you put it down for more than a day or two you will forget what happened because of how many things…

I decided to re-watch this anime when I noticed I still have the sequels marked as Plan to Watch on my list. I couldn't remember much, but considering the time I originally watched DRRR, a lot of things flew right over my head so I'm not surprised I couldn't remember some details. That being said, I don't think the anime is forgettable. I enjoyed the story a lot and I can't decide which character is my favourite. There are so many and it's amazing I can't say I dislike any of them. There's one I'm indifferent to, but I don't think she qualifies as a main character so it doesn't matter. Anyway, the anime really picked up around episode 11. Plenty of things happened before then too, but things got really exciting from then on and it kept me glued to my screen. Definitely a great watch.

This show was one of a kind. Durarara was a show that considerable blew my mind. The main focus and driving point of this anime was the plot. How every little event that happens in this city of Ikebukuro connects with the rest of the characters which forms this huge plot was just mind blowing and was truly intriguing to watch how it was all going to end. I will admit though the few episodes in the beginning of this anime was slow, but how everything connects and how the plot thickens with each episode were truly marvelous to witness. All the characters were all so very interesting and fun to know. They all had their backstories and intriguing roles in the plot. They all had their unique quirks and what made them special. The main focus of this anime would be in this city of Ikebukuro, ther…

I'm... so confused. To be honest, I can't even tell if I liked this show. There's so many plot twists and turns and confusions that by the end of it, I thought "I... liked this show. I think?" It kind of gives off a Bakemonogatari type feel where the basics of everything looks normal, but then outta nowhere, someone falls out of the sky, there's some kind of gag character that is insanely strong to the point where your heart hurts because you feel they have gone through pain, the most normal character turning out to be the weirdest, most out there character... this show is so confusing but the twists are so clever that it almost makes up for it?
