This anime is such a rollercoaster. Went from debating whether I should drop it to absolutely loving it. That's why I found it difficult to give it an accurate rating. Here's my honest review.
What put me off: forced edgy humor, jokes about suicide and random goofy faces made me cringe to the point I had to fast forward a lot of scenes. It was so bad that I was thinking of dropping this anime mid season. I had to do research whether they keep this theme forever or stop eventually and after finding out it's temporary, I decided to keep watching, but I understand why it may cause people to quit on it.
What kept me engaged: I liked how they introduced the world, the abilities was a basic yet fun concept, interesting characters and organisations were introduced that made me curious to learn…

Bungou Stray Dogs Season 1 features an impeccable and consistent visual production, introductory worldbuilding and some unexpectedly successful drama, all the while laying the foundation for the important conflicts of the series to come, I assume at least as much.
Visuals, from background art to choreography are incredibly consistent, likely the reason for the short episode count, there are also a few examples of very successfully blending 3D and 2D, which I hope is a sign of things to come.
As for the fights themselves, Bungou Stray Dogs Season 1 does suffer from the hesitant posture of the very first iteration of a story, Ryunosuke and Nakajima can't have a deathmatch yet, and they don't. In short, the story holds back with essentially all of its action in this season, from characters…

I want to get straight to the point and say: this anime has potential. It was held back for its story telling style.
- You can find a lot of genres in it. It has a lil sprinkle of fantasy, some action, lil bit of slice of life, mystery, and lil bit of comedy. That could actually work well since these genres are connected with each other, but I feel like it was not fleshed out to be incorporated well together, in this anime.
- I'm not sure about the "comedy part" of this one, because most of the time it's just overexaggerated interactions of the characters, or sometimes 'funny' facial expressions. It feels forced and repetitive to me.
- When there's a character introduction, it happens way too often, and sometimes a lot of characters are introduced all at once. Like, you can't just expe…

This is honestly my absolute favorite anime and I’m not even exaggerating. From the very first episode, I couldn’t put it down. It grabbed me instantly with its atmosphere, characters, and that perfect mix of mystery, action, and emotional chaos. And when I finally finished the series… I had to take a whole week off just to calm down. I was way too excited, and the idea that the anime might end ( only for a new season to suddenly appear) completely destroyed me in the best way. What really surprised me is how the story keeps going. There were moments where it genuinely felt like everything was wrapping up, like we were heading toward the final conclusion… and then BAM. an unexpected twist, a new arc, a new season, and suddenly I’m screaming into the void again. The plot just refuses to slo…

This anime is such an oddity to me. Everyone loves it, it has a massive fandom and way too many fanfics. But I watched it and I was extremely disappointed, it's just very boring which is a shame because the art is pretty.
The plot is whatever, the characters have so much potential but turn out super mid and I think I've seen twitter yaoi fanarts where they're more fleshed out than this anime.
I really liked the weretiger character who is set up as a protagonist but he got sidelined so hard by Dazai, like stop pushing this suicidal freak on my face, I don't care about himmmm!!!!
I recommend it if you like watching weird twinks have homoerotic sexual tension but if you want good character arcs or plot then you probably won't like it very much. Also there's disgusting incest siblings that…

bro to be honest i think this anime is one of the most wonderful things i ever found out in this year
it has the mistery, the funny parts, good characters, good dynamics (only the animation that is somehow poor at most of times)
but really, i think that's the only anime (together with the apothecary diaries) that leaved me wanting to watch everyday and i only think that i haven't finished it in a week because it was so good i was scared i would end up finding it bad,but NOOO everything was so good
also it's been a long time since i didn't simped hard for a character. my dude akutagawa leaved me basically in love, i'm using his icon in every social media (instagram, twitter, letterboxd, and even on wattpad where i had an account i didn't entered for like 2 years)
im not the one that usually…

Honestly it was copying too much anime for me to want to really continue watching it's next season i would have to be forced too much like Tokyo December's naruto and inuyasha . They had no cute guys in my opinion ether ! The shows were long and bland ... I literally predicted the plot at every beginning of the mini arcs of s1. The art could have been prettier to.the characters were all pretty dumb to I'm gonna get hate probably for this review but it was literally not my cup of tea at all. Other people may like it but it wasn't for me

Note: This will be a review of the series in its entirety.
Overview:
Taken at face value, "Bungou Stray Dogs" is a supernatural crime thriller that seems heavily inspired by the "Like a Dragon" video game series and marinated with the flavour of shows like "Durarara!" or "Baccano!", which would be all well and good on its own. What makes the series truly unique, however, is the sheer amount of homages it pays to classic literature, both Japanese and beyond, with every character being a reference to a famous novelist or poet. That definitely isn't to say the series doesn't have a good number of issues, but this still definitely isn't the kind of anime you come across every day.
Story (7.5/10):
Set in the Japanese city Yokohama, the story opens with 18-year-old Atsushi Nakajima on the brin…

Like many similar series featuring an eccentric cast of characters and designs, a unique but interesting power system based on literature, and convincingly fun action and story beats, Bungo Stray Dogs delivers on expectations while making the format its own. This certainly feels like a starting entry to a series, but it has enough personality to make for an enjoyable experience despite being in its introductory phase. The humor can be quite hilarious with the tradeoff being it is sometimes out of place. In addition, there is sometimes an overreliance on repetitive flashbacks. However, there is potential here to make for great entertainment going forward.

Bungo stray dogs is a very quirky crime supernatural drama that focuses mainly on the quirks themselves.
Bungo stray dogs has got to be some of the quirkiest anime that is out there. I mean like the whole thing is really just light hearted despite the dark setting that it takes place in. I mean all of the characters all have their own quirks and they themselves are just super freaky most of the time. Dazai dreams of killing himself with a beautiful woman and that is his whole personality throughout the show. The plot itself of the show is decent, Nothing super special two factions beefing over past issues. But it still is incredibly entertaining in with badass fight scenes and dark plot twists etc.
The ending is the worst part of this show as it isn't much of an ending to an anime seaso…

BSD follows the bizarre adventure of Atushi, our Gary Stu, self-insert seinen protagonist. Based in the port city of Yokohama, Japan, BSD pendulums between suspending disbelief and straight-up broad daylight gang shoot-outs, with mixed success.
With each character's quirks, and the juxtaposing anachronistic detective vibes, BSD features a memorable cast. I do want to like BSD more— but as Season 1 stands, it just doesn't innovate much on the genre.
I would only recommend BSD to people who enjoyed Jojo, but wish it took itself a little more seriously. And don't be tempted by the name: besides inspiring the abilities, there don't seem to be any direct references to the literature they reference.

I would say that Bungo Stray Dogs is one of the best anime series that has ever been published. The character development is crazy, and there are some pretty sad scenes. This anime could even be considered a slice of life as well.
There were sometimes where I was at the edge of my seat, there were sometimes where I shat my pants. But all that matters is that it is a good anime and I would watch it again.
I would recommend this anime to anyone who wants a slice of life, comedy, and probably even horror.
The characters are good, and even the side characters are good. The character development is ok, maybe make the main character a little better.

The first review I wrote for Bungou Stray Dogs was so low effort and awful, when I rediscovered it, I had to delete it out of shame. Now that five seasons have been released, I feel like now’s a good stopping point to organize my thoughts about Bungou Stray Dogs as a whole.
Bungou Stray Dogs is a mystery action adventure anime that follows an orphaned boy who is recruited to be part of a superhero task force. Almost every relevant character has some sort of superpower, dubbed ability users. The characters and abilities themselves are modeled after real life writers and their works, which was quite interesting. The worldbuilding is kind of iffy, but generally ability users will gather together in groups to achieve some purpose, and that’s where the conflict in Bungou Stray Dogs (from now…

If you care at all about plot, then this show will be quite frustrating for you. Bungo Stray Dogs follows the standard action shonen formula of having lots of character with different powers/abilities. This powers are unique and interesting, and the characters start out okay for the most part, but then just devolve into the same jokes over and over.
I could get past all of that though, it's the plot, or disregard for consistency/realism that frustrates me too much. This show is not afraid to have lots of people die, as long as they are unnamed characters. They're killing people left and right to show how brutal the enemy is, but the main characters have supreme plot armor. Block a whole barrage of bullets from a machine gun? You'll live. Get stabbed in the chest by a ruthless killer? I gu…

popular but not too overrated.
this would be the phrase that i’d use to describe this anime in its entirety. while i do think this is popular for a good reason, i felt that some parts could’ve been better. the pacing was boringly slow at points & didn’t make a lot of sense some times. i understand the hype though.
spoilers:
i don’t like the fact that most of the story is based on atsushi having a bounty on his head, it feels like every other anime i’ve seen recently. it’s very predictable & not super original. dazai is funny but the fact that he uses the suicide joke line is kind of off to me, idk.
i think a lot of people will like this series because it is good, i just found it repetitive because it’s so similar to everything else that’s out right now.

The first season is more of an introduction of the characters and the world in which Bungo Stray Dogs is set. Mainly a Detective Agency where ppl have supernatural abilities. There's not much of an ongoing plot and is more episodic for the first season. Not bad but not great... It gets much more interesting by the 3rd season and the 4th season is heads and shoulders above the 1st. It gets into murder mystery detective stories and conspiracies. The special powers are also unique and original, not just ur run of the mill elemental powers or general magic. There are several wellrounded, likable characters.

I'm loving it, I really am. The anime adaptation is magnificent, exquisite, did not fail Asagiri and Sango ONCE. the openings? absolute works of art. endings? give you more depression than evangelion. plot? comedic and dark at the same time mixed with lots of action and crime stuff. characters? lovable and hot. the characters are also based on famous writers so when you're feeling like an intellectual normie for once you have endless options to choose from when it comes to your next author you want to read. like what more can you ask for? this is it. hot guys with cool powers fighting other hot guys with cool powers. this is actually my biggest inspiration as a mangaka, thank you Asagiri and Sango for making this masterpiece and thank you BONES studio for animating this masterpiece.

It's pretty legit. The whole concept of literary figures having supernatural powers is something I've never seen before, and it's super cool. The way they blend action, mystery, and a bit of comedy is just right, keeping things interesting without going overboard. The animation is slick, with fight scenes that are both stylish and intense, making each episode a blast to watch. Plus, the characters are all unique, with their own quirks and backstories that make you want to root for them, especially the main dude, Atsushi, who's got this tragic hero vibe going on.
But it wasn't all perfect, though. Some episodes felt a bit slow, especially when they dived deep into the character backstories, kinda interrupting the main storyline's momentum. However, the overall plot is intriguing, with enou…

Appearance over substance.
Bungou Stray Dogs has the perfect mix to make it a landmark anime: Gorgeous art direction, original setting, sophisticated plot and colourful characters. Many will agree it is in fact a masterpiece and their arguments may be perfectly valid.
However, the issue with the show lies in its obsessive search for sophistication, only to end up taking itself too seriously. BSD constantly seems to be seeking the mature viewers' approval, only to look self conscious and aware.
Every scene, dialogue and characters ' reactions pursue the purpose of showing their elegance, maturity or wittiness. However, such aspects should always be self explanatory thanks to clever writing and direction, not explicit triggers.
As a consequence, by wanting to appear edgy or deep, BSD e…

At first, I wasn't really interested in Bungo Stray Dogs as it didn't look that good to me and i'm not much of a fan of its genre.
However, I eventually decided to give it a chance after a close friend, who happens to be a huge BSD fan, recommended it to me. Throughout the entire season and even in future seasons, the show has its ups and downs.
On the positive side, there are some interesting characters (with Dazai being a personal favourite of mine).
The show also includes good jokes and alot of funny/comedic moments, aswell as suspenseful drama that's actually quite entertaining at times. The animation and sound design are very well done for when it was made, adding to the overall experience (and gets a lot better later on too).
However, there are also some drawbacks.
At times, the sh…
