YATO-SANNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Noragami came as a surprise when I first watched it. I really didn't expect to find a story about gods, spirits, and the supernatural, especially since the only thing I’d seen before starting the anime was that scene where Yato defeats the first spirit at the school. I found the scene interesting and looked into what the show was about; it turned out to be a far more compelling series than I had anticipated.
In fact, while rewatching the anime for this review, I noticed how similar the relationship between gods and shikigami in Noragami is to the dynamic in Soul Eater. Obviously, there are plenty of differences between the two works, and their premises are quite distinct, but the concept of characters sharing a close bond with those who serve as their weapons or bat…

An Honest 5 Yen To Earn
After nearly 6 years of keeping this on my watchlist, I finally got to Noragami. Is it as peak as I thought it'd be? Not really, no, but I do love some of its moments.
The main reason I got onto the show was just because of season 2's opening. Everyone knows it, everyone's heard of it, it's extremely fucking awesome. So naturally, I wanted to see what this show was about. Right off the bat, the entire power system isn't that intriguing to me and is very normal in terms of shounen writing, and that's completely fine, cause that's not gonna dictate whether or not I love this show. What will dictate my love for this show will be its story and characters.
The story is unfortunately aimless and a simple "mission of the week" style plot with moments of an actual plot b…

I just finished Noragami (Season 1). I liked it quite a lot. It does some difficult things surprisingly well. It feels innovative and you can clearly feel some DNA that later appeared in Jujutsu Kaisen.
What the series does extraordinarily well is portraying a human god. Not only through Yato’s mundane way of living, but also through his inner conflicts and the way he faces life despite all the difficulties that come with it.
The lore is solid enough, and while the characters are not particularly complex, they are far from flat. Most of their strength comes from their relationships rather than from deep backstories.
The main problem is the weak construction of the main villain, who works more as an archetypal narrative device than as a true engine of conflict. He actually had a decent m…

I think the main problem with this anime is the relationship between the MCs in the first nine episodes. This show can't decide whether it's a comedy battle-shonen or a serious seinen. I won't spoil much, but let's just say that the main conflict in the first nine episodes felt very contrived. Initially, they try to paint the MC as this funny tracksuit-wearing perv who takes odd jobs for five yen. But eventually, he turns into this apathetic asshole who doesn't care about people's feelings. He keeps wondering why his Divine Instrument keeps "stinging" him, but he's the main reason why that person is being pushed that way. The show never explains why the MC has that attitude. He's just an unlikeable asshole for some reason. Additionally, many of the added side characters aren't very interes…

Noragami was hyped up a lot by the premise but ended up being overwhelmingly... mid. Not bad, per say, but just underwhelming. Like stale bread with butter on it. It teases so much of it's future potential but just ends up being filled with nothing but hot air. The arcs are very clumsily opened and concluded. The overarching story lacks fluidity and progression. They make little to no progress with anything they set out to challenge or fix in the beginning of the show. Noragami snitches on itself in this regard by having absolutely zero flair in the final episode. It just... ends. There is no after credits scene hinting at the next season. No cliffhanger or nothing. No explanation as to Yato's backstory. The show just continuously refuses to expand on itself in ways that reward the viewer…

I came to this series rather late, and given that it is clearly aimed at a younger demographic, I have chosen to be lenient regarding certain shortcomings, though some still warrant mention. Noragami is visually vibrant, featuring characters with distinct personalities and a soundtrack that stands out, even if it did not particularly appeal to me. The world itself is intriguing, though not entirely well-defined & several of its rules remain underexplored, which at times undermines its internal consistency. I also found myself wondering whether Jujutsu Kaisen may have drawn some inspiration from its concepts.
The animation quality is consistent with other productions from around 2014 i.e. competent, but unremarkable by today’s standards. Among the more notable weaknesses is the protagonist’…

Don't you just hate it when you try to save a god's life who actually didn't need the help anyway and then become halfway dead, turning randomly into a spirit because of it? "Noragami" is an engaging and fun show to watch that is packed full of humanity, even when it primarily focuses on the life of its gods and spirits.
"Noragami" as a show does a great job of sucking you in from the start with Yato fighting a massive evil spirit. The show continues to nicely drip-feed you information of how its world works. There are no annoying flash-backs, long dialogued or cartoonishly-drawn explanations of the complex topics in the show. Each of the shows' gods and their regalias bring life into the shows' world and have personalities that draw you into the world further. For the most part, it know…

Damn! I am honestly at lost for words. At surface level, I thought Noragami would be quite simple, but it ended up having pretty dead and emotional lore!
Not only does it have moments where you have to pause due to second hand embarrassment or scenes that make you laugh out loud, but it also carried deep storytelling, especially with Yukine, that makes your heart ache for days. The last few episodes made me tear up for the voice actors NAILED the screaming and crying, making me feel like I was in the event itself. The story was also unexpectedly heartwarming, especially with how the main character trio interact with one another (love myself some found family material.)
I also appreciate the other characters as well! Although some of them may be quite odd and have weird relationships, y…

Easily one of my top 10 anime. Honestly, I'd recommend watching it just simply because of the absolute BANGER openings this anime has to offer. It stands the flow of time, in my opinion, but there are some typical anime scenes reminiscent of the era in which it aired. It was a highly spoken of anime back in the day, so I'm surprised to hear many people haven't heard of it and that it's actually considered "underrated."
Noragami's strong suit is in its characters, rather than its plot or action scenes. It really introduces you to them and gets you familiar with them, both their likable parts and dislikable parts. The plot is secondary because it serves to highlight the characters and the trials they go through, rather than telling a bigger, more intricate story. If you're into some charact…

Noragami is an underrated gem in the world of supernatural anime, blending sharp action, laugh out loud comedy, and surprisingly profound emotional themes. At the center of it all is Yato, a minor god with big dreams of becoming Japan’s most revered deity. The only problem? He’s broke, borderline homeless, and willing to take on any odd job for just five yen.
Things take a turn when he meets Hiyori Iki, a kind hearted high school girl who finds herself caught between the living and spirit worlds after a near death experience. Together with Yato’s weapon partner (and sassy angst fueled teenage soul), Yukine, the trio forms an unlikely bond that grows stronger with each trial they face.
The show’s biggest strength lies in its balance. One minute you’re laughing at Yato’s antics or Hiyori’s…

My re-watch was definitely better than my initial watch. Noragami has a weird but interesting concept. It follows a minor Japanese deity, Yato, who tries to become popular and get his own massive shrine. He does all sorts of odd jobs to try and become popular. It's pretty enjoyable overall, but has a couple of weird downsides.
The first is that Noragami's humor doesn't land around 90% of the time, which gets annoying because actual storytelling will sometimes get interrupted by an unfunny gag complete with all the anime cartoony facial features. The second is that it's a superpower anime with a really weird power system. The deities can't actually do anything by themselves, but they turn human souls into weapons and fight using them. It keeps getting more and more convoluted with the inst…

Noragami is one of the best action anime out there.
Noragami is an insanely popular anime but it is rarely talked about nowadays. Noragami is a 2014 Action Supernatural anime and is the perfect anime for the Genre, Its got a nice mix of action and supernatural elements in there blending to make an amazing anime. The action scenes are awesome, Cool spells, Big monsters ETC. Typical overpowered MC that is just a pure badass and is really fun to watch. The character bonding in this anime is amazing aswell, Seeing the bond between the 3 MC characters, Yato, Hiyori and Yukine, was really sweet to watch, seeing them all happy together and they felt like really realistic friends. This anime is also extremely dark at times with topics such as suicide, Child death etc. Really though this anime can…

I went into Noragami thinking it was going to be a show that mixes the feelings of an action packed Shonen and an edgy Seinen, but I was wrong. Don't get me wrong, the dialogue was funny and the animation quality never really hindered, but the chemistry between the characters wasn't the greatest. On their own, the characters are great but the way that their stories developed weren't the best, except Yato. Examples of this viewpoint can be explored such as after Yukine dealt with certain problems that are not to be named because of reasons such as letting people actually read this to help know if they will like the show or not, it felt like he kind of left the story, or the fact that Hiyori never actually gets anything done in the show except help Yukine and Yato, which didn't add on to her…

Noragami is an excellent anime! At the time of viewing and reviewing, I had underestimated this anime and so I give the rating at its fair value, which is well deserved! Then, the story is very original! We have a Japan as we see it today. That is to say, Japan that mixes tradition and modernity. Although in my opinion, the anime is more focused on ancestral Japan such as Japanese deities and myths, which are at the heart of the anime. I think it's a very good way to learn more about Japan. The characters are all very endearing, especially Yato with his cheerful air in a tracksuit, Hiyori and Bishamon.

A unique yet somewhat ordinary anime.
Story: 7/10
It’s fresh and charming. I haven’t seen the second season yet, so I’m not familiar with the deeper world-building, but the story presented in the first season was quite exciting, with a solid foundation in its setting.
Music: 5/10
There aren't any standout tracks that really stick with you. The ending theme is quite good, but the background music feels clichéd and average.
Characters: 6/10
Yato is mischievous but can be quite intimidating when serious. Iki Hiyori comes across as too much of a sweet, one-dimensional character. In contrast, Yukine effectively embodies the theme of "inferiority complex." Voice Acting: 10/10
This gets a solid 10. The voice actors brought life to Yukine’s darker moments, and I truly got chills. Yato’s mischie…

Noragami It's really great. I heard the name of this anime many times on YouTube and searching through Deferent genre it hits me and I started to watching And it's the best thing happened to me since Weeks at first it fee like a simple show where character nag their failure and lick the wound throughout the show. But it does not such thing.
Storyline feel original and not. Emotional connection of the three lead characters are most amazingly done. Ups and downs are part of life and the show doesn't hesitate to show the vulnerability and struggle to live and feel alive be aware of the current reality.
Music is best and that's one aspect that shine most in the anime and in tense situation background music curve the seen into a viewer's mind and become a part of it.

"Noragami" was actually pretty good to my surprise. Ngl, at first, I was kinda meh about it and almost decided to drop the show. But then, things got real with Yukine’s character, Yato's motivation and I was like, “Okay, now we’re talking.” So, yeah, definitely wait it out a bit if it doesn’t grab you right away. So, if you start watching and feel a bit twisted, just hang in there because it surely gets better.
What I really ended up loving was the humor and the whole friendship angle (also a big respect to the translators and English subtitles, I was laughing a lot). The way the characters interact and grow together adds a lot of warmth to the story. Plus, the dynamics between them are just chef's kiss, making for some genuinely funny and touching moments. I even cried few times, I guess…

I liked this anime a lot. If you look at my other reviews you'll see I tend to find all animes are crap, but I think that for not being too ambitious like a lot of anime I watched, by maintaining a simple plotline, this one ends up being pretty good.
The story is enjoyable and simple, it surrounds around friendships. The characters mostly are pretty nice I grew to like them, it's the best part of this anime. The yato god is actually a scumbag, I never liked him a lot despite him being the protagonist. Hiyori is a nice person, although I feel sorry for the problems yato causes her. Kofuku-sama and Daikoku are my favorite characters, they're absolutely strange, but very lovable and funny characters.
The character I liked the list are Yukine, he's 100% awful in both seasons, and the Rabou gu…

A show has never gotten me so hooked as Noragami did. Certainly, if I don't consider it as a masterpiece it would be wrong of me. I personally love the power system and the OSTs. One of the best aspects of this show is its three main characters: Yato, Hiyori, and Yukine. [happy ranting incoming~]
Hiyori is the type of female lead I ABSOLUTELY LOVEEE in a show. She is not useless and not the “just there for the sake of being there” type. In fact, the whole story revolves around her. She is the reason for all the events to occur. She is funny, smart, and determined– she is perfect.
Now onto Yukine… what can I say? I love him. Yes, I love his bratty ass as well. His immaturity and bitterness towards Yato were one of my personal favorites because it's a concept that was very well portrayed.…

Noragami is a masterpiece. It is, like Rurouni Kenshin, an anime about redemption and struggle to adapt to the normal everyday life. And, the show does it with great success that you get a lot of fun and don't think it is about redemption and adaptation to society until you watch a few episodes.
The main character is a minor deity called Yato and he forms an alliance with the spirit of a newly deceased human kid whom he calls Yukine. The anime is in fact about their process of understanding their place in society and their relationship with the human high school girl Hiyoki makes the main backbone of the show. Of course, with such a combination of little-known god, spirit, and human, all the shenanigans and all the fun arises. It is an incredibly well written, well-directed, and straight-…
