Running partly simultaneously to SAO, Btooom! was airing at a good time where people seemed to love shows of this genre. But while SAO ended up becoming one of the most popular anime of all time, Btooom! didn't get anywhere close. There is no season 2, and the attempt of reviving this series through the release of a mobile game in 2017 has failed too. Yet, it has to be said, sitting at #220 as of writing this review in popularity on MAL is no small feat. That way it is close to other very popular anime and pushes up to 1 million users somehow having this on their list.
Btooom! for me is what I call good anime slop. Looking from today, the premise, the characters, the way everything plays out is pretty stereotypical for an anime like this. It's predictable but yet entertaining. And unfortu…

3.5/10 ~ Light Yagami plays a Death game while Rimuru cries in the corner
I will start by saying that I do not recommend to watch this as it was canceled over 10 years ago, and the show doesn't even end on a cliff hanger, its just half finished, so its a bit hard to be objective when this is the case, but ill try my best.
Being released in 2012 this was a different time: sword art online was just airing, death games were a new and up coming thing and not beaten to death like they are in 2025, it was socially unacceptable to watch dubbings from most of the community so no one cared if the ENG dub was bad, In your face fan service was necessary for mid anime to make its way over to the states, and most smaller anime never knew if they were going to get a part 2 or a continuation, it was…

The series starts with an average episode, where we follow a typical video game "addict" who wakes up alone on an island one day with a bunch of explosives in his fanny pack and slowly discovers that he has fallen into a deadly dangerous game. Surprisingly quickly, however, the series adds other interesting characters, the main character himself turns out to be a nice guy, the players are given engaging backgrounds and the game can start in a big way! Each episode throws one bomb after another - the players have well-thought-out strategies, there are nice twists and turns and the whole thing is simply engaging and in the end quite a hit. 💣

Writing absolutely sucks and is all over the place. The authors introduce plot twists out of nowhere and they don't make much sense. The fights also suck. Most of the time they are about out smarting or out maneuvering your enemy, which would set the stage for lots of mind games, but the writing executes it poorly. Some characters survive when they should die due to the dumbest or most uncreative plot twists. Also, sometimes characters survive due to direct impacts from bimbs and some other times are completely unscathed. Writing is super predictable, and the characters are dense and slow to pick up on things.
Summary: both plot and action suck.

Btooom!: A Brilliant Idea That Never Explodes
Btooom! is an anime that takes the "survival game" concept and pushes it to the extreme with a fantastic premise. The story follows Ryota Sakamoto, an unemployed and reclusive young man who, in the virtual world, is the best player of the popular combat video game Btooom!. Without warning, he wakes up on a tropical island, forced to participate in a real and deadly version of his favorite game, using only different types of bombs (BIMs). Ryota must use his wits and gaming skills to survive, while also trying to unravel the mystery behind this game.
The series' strongest point is its high-stakes premise and strategic action. The concept of a video game becoming real is an excellent hook. The battles are not based on brute force but on tactical…

This show isnt anything special but still fairly enertaining and well worth a watch if you like the genre. The setup is fairly easy and standard and something weve seen many times before adding to the standard 7/10 score. NEET MC. Online game tjrned into some real life stuff. The segup of only being able to use grenades in this online adds atleast something new. Each person has a different style of grenade with different functions. That setup opens for some interesting battles alongside Madhouse being specialist in the genre but it all falls pretty flat. Its not bad but not as exciting as it could have been. No character really stood out either. Soundtrack was very mediocre and i barely remembered any of it. Kickass OP though.
Oh and this is one of those unfinished animes that probably n…

I recommend this anime for those of you who like survival themes!
Stuck on a deserted island and the only way out is to kill each other, yeah this is the kind of anime I like.
Even though at first the MC was confused and reluctant to kill, but as time went by, the MC finally changed into the person I wanted.
Start understanding how various grenades work, strategize and finally be able to defeat enemies one by one.
The downside for me is the graphics are quite simple, I understand this because it is an old anime.
But the most disappointing thing is the lack of continuation of the story, until now this anime is still hanging in the first season and it is very impossible to get a second season.
Why is that? According to my search results on Google, it said that the game from this anime did…

Overview:
"Btooom!" falls into the somewhat lesser-known genre of survival anime, where various people compete in an every-man-for-himself game where the only goal is to, well, survive, namely by killing all of the other contestants. Unfortunately, as far as examples of this anime I've watched go, this one ranks among the bottom of the list, with there being very little here to make it stand out from other anime of its kind, even if it's still not terrible by any means.
Story (6/10):
"Btooom!" revolves around a death game based on the titular fictional combat video game, where contestants have to kill each other using various bombs supplied to them, and take chips embedded in the bodies of the ones they kill. Why would anybody do this? Well, because they've all been forced onto a remote i…

Here comes yet another show about some waste of life who does nothing but playing videogames all day, and is all of a sudden thrown in a life or death situation, where we are supposed to cheer for him, despite being a total jerk. It’s about a videogame that is something between Counterstrike and Bomberman, getting real after the protagonist is sent to fight other players. Then it becomes Battle Royale in a Predators setting, meaning, a bunch of people that need to kill each other, sent via parachute to a remote tropical island. And yes it sounds interesting at first, until you see how silly it plays out.
You obviously need some suspension of disbelief when watching a fictional work, but this anime is constantly begging you to point your finger at it and yell THAT CAN’T HAPPEN. The laws of…

"We All Chose You To Disappear".
How would our world be if such a game really existed?
Ryota Sakamoto is a NEET, "NEET= Not educated, employed, or trained", he likes to spend his time on online survival games, and one day he wakes up dangling from a tree to find out he is now a participant in a real-life survival game in a remote island.
Everything in this anime gives me mixed feelings. Survival games are an attractive idea for an anime but it has to be executed with high quality, otherwise, it'll flop. The story is interesting and can make you watch it in one session, but that's not the case here.
I watched this anime in three sessions in three days and can assure you that the second part (EP.7-12) is more fun to watch.
Here are some pros and cons:
- You will experience a lot of naiv…

This is a solid underrated anime and for the quality, I was genuinely surprised and hooked over an 11 year old show. There is genuinely more trash that aires every season of anime that gets more recognition than this, I want to make clear that "trash" like this is to be appreciated.
This isn't popular and won't ever be popular. If you like watching lower budget shows that are more niche and likely only put out to promote the manga ( like this one ). You will like this. If you have seen Tomodachi Game and liked that, this is a great recommendation.
Some drawbacks in the show I would like to point out is that the pacing is just a tad fast, and the first episode isn't really all that exciting. The "virtual game" that is referenced a lot in the anime kind of takes me out of the show and feel…

OVERALL:
7/10
This was very enjoyable to watch, and kept suspense levels high. It's tough finding shows that make me want to compromise sleep to watch the next episode.
My biggest gripe would be the plot armor moments. Not too obnoxious but the plot armor is there, it tends to subtract from the best element of the show, which is the suspense. The writing is a little lazy at times with how certain events unfold conveniently for MC & friends. The Death-Note-style explanations are appreciated at times, but even these can't explain how lucky they get escape... situations. The actual story has an interesting enough plot to keep watching. A good show should have a balance between good characters and good world building. This show has both.
*Nothing too spoiler heavy*
The MC has good character…

So after trolling the internet in search of adult-like anime, i.e. not not focused on the lives of high schoolers, I came across raving reviews for this gem of an anime. After watching it, I think it's safe to say that the only thing it has going for it is BOOBS. Nothing else.
The characters are death-proof, bomb-proof and fully protected by A-grade plot armour. Because of that, the stakes don't feel so compelling. The plot lacks moments that really shine so it all feels like one blurry episodes where nothing memorable happens.
What can be gained from watching this, a few somewhat decent action scenes. That's all.

This Anime is actually really good. I don't actually like getting people killed for game reasons, but this Anime handled it well. They had a meaning!!
The main 2 characters are really good, and others were also interesting to be honest.
It is certainly good and interesting, I really enjoyed it, so much so that I wanted to watch more of it after each episode to know that what happens next or what are the motivation and intention behind the actions of the people. It's the type of Anime where you really enjoy an Anime so much that you wanna just watch it without stopping.
The story is pretty decent and when you know you're watching some survival game, you pretty much know that there are gonna be killings and deaths. I don't like these concepts very well, because you already know that some g…

Its ok, but its a survival game power fantasy which had committed the cardinal sin of releasing the same year as Sword Art Online so it got overlooked. It pulls a deadman wonderland and leaves off in a place where you really want to continue but the chances of this getting a second season are as good as a pleasant smelling anime convention.
It has quite a full inclusion of genre tropes: amnesia, childhood friend (who wasn't good at the actual game but is supposed to be on the team with the best player in the world?), attempted sexual assault, op mc, and a few more.
Overall its average and if you want to see the ending you better buy the manga

What a journey this was. It’s been years since the last time I watched Btooom, and coming back to it was both pleasantly nostalgic and intellectually distressing. Can’t say I’ve ever had a rewatch go quite like this.
Watching Btooom for the third time for review/analysis purposes was a much greater undertaking than I could have ever predicted. I forgot some of the most egregious issues with the show and in essence, had rose-tinted nostalgia goggles on prior to this viewing.
Let me make one thing abundantly clear: many aspects of this anime’s production are am…

Really sad to see such a promising anime be pretty much canceled by the networks. Wished they could have given this anime a real ending but I guess I'll have to read the manga to find out. The anime itself is good. Would not recommend this as your first anime. They story is pretty generic and could have gone with way less pervert jokes. But the show was entertaining and I did like the romance elements at the end. Think I would have given this a 7.5 but since it's ending was not a real ending in my mind. Im just giving it at 7.

THIS REVIEW MAY HAVE SPOILERS BUT THEY WILL TRY TO BE AVOIDED
BTOOOM! or just Btoom! as described above is about a 22 year old who plays a game and one day comes to find out this game he plays is real.
To start off, in all honesty this story is kind of a drag. The main character is on another level of "mediocre". He is a coward through most of the show and refuses to hurt anyone unless he absolutely has to. Now aside from the moral implications, he is almost killed a handful of times and almost gets others killed just as much. He for sure has his moments but those only come in twice maybe three times.
This show doesn't look the best but you have to remember that compared to anything recent or of its time its a night and day difference. This show was probably one of the better looking on…

One of the first animes that I saw I remember that I had stayed until 8 o'clock to finish it and I began to watch it at 12. It has a very good scoop, the thing is that a game of bombs make it come true. The best player of this game is our protagonist at the beginning we see how the protagonist is against killing people but when they are about to kill him he puts on his boots and begins to kill people.A very entertaining anime that does what that many tried to do and could not, highly recommended. The animation is very good and has very specific action, also the development of characters is very good as they show you why they are like that. The epic soundtrack in the fight scenes. It is like very special because being medium strategic fights of how they use bombs and they handle that extreme…

Short review, well if you even call this a review.
I believe there's a limit on how much you can use the same trope over and over again and frustrate the watchers.
Btooom is one of those animes where the concept is well plotted despite it being rather simple. Now the problem is that the 'rape' trope being so overly used that it's just irritating to keep watching any longer. They bring out the same shit over and over and over again, for what ever reason when you can use a different approach to progress the story.
And also the MC is dense as hell, like i literally can't relate to him one bit. Although the last few eps is when he finally realizes that he's naive and undergoes some progression, it still doesn't erase the fact that how he was in 80% of the show
Now to…
