Dorohedoro

Introduction

Hole—a dark, decrepit, and disorderly district where the strong prey on the weak and death is an ordinary occurrence—is all but befitting of the name given to it. A realm separated from law and ethics, it is a testing ground to the magic users who dominate it. As a race occupying the highest rungs of their society, the magic users think of the denizens of Hole as no more than insects. Murdered, mutilated, and made experiments without a second thought, the powerless Hole dwellers litter the halls of Hole's hospital on a daily basis. Possessing free access to and from the cesspool, and with little challenge to their authority, the magic users appear indomitable to most—aside for a few. Caiman, more reptile than man, is one such individual. He hunts them on a heedless quest for answers with only a trusted pair of bayonets and his immunity to magic. Cursed by his appearance and tormented by nightmares, magic users are his only clue to restoring his life to normal. With his biggest obstacle being his stomach, his female companion Nikaidou, who runs the restaurant Hungry Bug, is his greatest ally. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Being lost in chaos is no understatement for this anime. The characters, the locations that they go to, the humour and the fact that the Devil is the most casual thing from the world of the Hole to the Sorcerer's world, proves that Dorohedoro's unique selling point has made it low-key legendary for its authenticity of storytelling. The characters and the plot are really brooding with some form of dark humour and life at the same time. The basic plot is Caiman trying to find out who he is whilst killing sorcerers, whilst working with Nikaido who sells gyoza to survive the dark world of the Hole. Nikaido within this story also accompanies Caiman in the understanding of what and why they exist as she has a secret which could affect the bond she has with Caiman. The antagonists can be loved…

Howdy, there, folks. Do you love anything that is pretty batshit insane where it centers around sorcerers in what seems to be a post-apocalyptic setting where classism is known by those who holds magical powers while you have a lizard-headed individual search for an identity via memory loss? What about one that is so chaotic that you'd throw morality out the window for loyalty over a higher class who has more magic like one who can turn you into mushrooms? Well, that's how Dorohedoro has to offer once you start living in the Hole. To be honest, there are a handful of jokes I can think of if your home is called the Hole where it takes a deep dive between Hole residents, who are victims of exploitation, and the world where sorcerers live, who oppress residents of the Hole. If the themes are…

A Truly Unique Work Dorohedoro is one of those titles that is hard to compare to anything else. From the very first episodes, it is evident that it doesn't follow the traditional conventions of action or fantasy anime. Its world is incredibly chaotic, violent, and bizarre, yet it manages to be strangely charming at the same time. The setting, character designs, magic system, and even the humor create a distinct identity, giving the work a unique personality. My experience watching the anime differed somewhat from most people's, as I had already read the entire manga. I followed the physical release from start to finish, so inevitably, I found myself comparing the two versions throughout the adaptation. And this is precisely where the anime loses some of its impact for me. In my opinion,…

It's actually good it's about a man with a Lenard's head who forgot his memory hunting witchs to find the one that casted the spell on him and get to his human form, between two worlds the human's and the witch's, what's good about it is the story is not flat since you get to know both parties and get attached to them, good pacing for events, little bad jokes here and there I wasn't found of but didn't ruin the experience, mhm the most important part is the animation, peak I usually despite 3d in anime but this one did it right it's 50/50 3d and 2d the movement are slow but somehow MAPPA pulled it off and convinced it's good animation, and finally the music was so fun especially the op so good.

Dorohedoro is a chaotic, "punk rock" acid trip of an anime that defies standard categorization. It is a show that is "definitely not average," existing in a space of "gritty mud and sludge" where the line between hero and villain is as blurry as the amnesiac fog surrounding its protagonist. At a 7.25/10, it is a series that might make you "hate" the initial experience, only to reveal its "promise" as the world-building takes hold. ● Short Synopsis In a grim, polluted megacity known as "The Hole," magic users from another dimension treat humans as practice targets for their spells. Caiman, a man with a lizard’s head and no memory of his past, is immune to magic and possesses a second person living inside his throat. Along with his best friend Nikaido—a gyoza-chef with her own deadly secr…

My overall objective rating is a solid 5 to 5.5 and subjective is a 6. The universe is kinda dope, it's one of the things that I immediately noticed. I like the sort of cyberpunk kinda vibe and the pollution and the sort of medieval environment of the mage's world. I also thought that I'd hate the CGI but I got used to it within the first couple episodes and it's sort of well done even though a couple moments in the anime (like once every episode but for a couple seconds) looked like shit tbh. So overall the vibe is good, the character design is okay-ish compared to the manga and the overall animation is alright. Now the story. Imo, a show/anime/manga/movie... works like this: -You have this overall big issue and in each season you have a sub-issue that brings you closer to solving this…

In time or perahps out of stubborn insistence on FINISHING this anime, Dorohedoro comes out of left field with a shocking adaptation of the Manga. Dorohedoro combines the love of cooking, body mutations and off-beat, weird world building of sorcerers of varying degrees in power. however, everyone in the series seems to have a 'cap' on their abilities throughout the story and a giant reptilian with a man in his body is seeking out his identity in this weird world. If any of Dorohedoro seems appealing, including the violence, character design and fights --- read the manga -- go on, do it. for those of you who are looking for an opinion on the title, I'll go ahead and break it down in the following Story those of us familiar with the pacing of the manga might feel rushed through the ent…

Dorohedoro is weird, but addictive. From the start I felt the world and the mystery had huge potential. But the plot… yeah, it zigzags everywhere. There are parts that honestly don’t need to be there, but they still shove them in—probably because the show leans hard on its absurd comedy. Because of that, the space to actually explore the mystery gets cut off, and 12 episodes just aren’t enough to uncover even half of the questions the story sets up. And that’s the thing: the mystery could be really solid if the show took it more seriously. But Dorohedoro chooses “chaotic fun” over “clean storytelling,” so the investigative vibe gets dragged around by the humor. What stuck with me most are the characters. Especially En. He’s supposed to be a mafia boss, but he doesn’t have that evil aura…

Hood Review Man, I really had to push through this one. The atmosphere was cool tho, it gave me some cyberpunk vibes I wasn’t expecting. I’ll give it that. The characters was solid too—everybody had they own weirdness goin’ on, some rockin’ masks, some just straight off-the-wall, so it kept it from feelin’ too plain. The story did have some mystery type shit that made me wanna find out what was really goin’ on, I’ll admit that. But at the end of it all, it was still lacking. The fights ain’t do nothin’ for me, the art wasn’t hittin’, and after a while I was just watchin’ to finish it, not ‘cause I was hyped. It had potential, but it just ain’t deliver the way it should’ve

Dorohedoro is a good show I like to have some sort of opening line because writing the "hook" is one of the hardest parts of writing something imo but the strange thing about this show is it's very good but I don't have much to say about it. Since I've been on record as disliking the other 3D animated shows I've seen (although, at least for one of them, that's not really the animation's fault, I don't think I would've liked it any more if it were traditionally animated), I was curious to see how that'd affect Dorohedoro. I actually quite liked it. It kinda fits the scrungy shithole of a world (worlds?) Dorohedoro takes place in, which I'll touch on the worldbuilding a bit more in a second. One of my biggest pet peeves is when an anime has like 200 EDs. Not only is it (as well as all i…

The story takes place in a chaotic world of sorcery and devilish shenanigans. One of its unfortunate victims, Caiman, mysteriously loses his head and memory with it. He and his best friend, tomboy chef Nikaido, survive in a violent slum called Hole, occasionally attempting to find new clues about the sorcerer who "stole" Caiman's head. Unlike most action-heavy shows, there is no good side in the world of Dorohedoro. Sorcerers are elitist magic supremacists who treat weaker ones as guinea pigs for their demented designs, while tough environments in the Hole turned people into savages fighting for their survival. To keep characters on both sides of the conflict relatable, the writing brings a generous portion of black humor and quirky dialogue(including Tarantino film references). No matter…

Story (Story & Fiction): 9/10 - A story that is far from clichés, original, and gripping. The main characters are well-written, with unique dynamics that keep the viewer engaged. Character Development (Character Writing & Growth): 8/10 - The characters are not just stereotypes; even those on the wizard side have well-defined motivations and personalities. While the main cast is strong, some side characters could have been explored further. Atmosphere (World Building & Immersion): 10/10 - The decayed, chaotic, and magic-infused world of Hole is masterfully crafted. Every detail contributes to the feeling of a living, breathing universe. Image and Animation Quality (Visual Style & Animation): 8/10 - The unique, gritty, and dark art style perfectly complements the story’s tone. The world i…

Fun concept for an anime which started fast. I liked it at first and was very intrigued with this anime from the first gore-y fight. The story sort of tailed off in the middle. Seems like they wanted to spend time with each character and explain how they were connected. There were some fun adventures (baseball episode was dope) and I like the gore + overall rudeness of the show. But I found myself losing interest. When things started to come together at the end, I got excited again. Ready for season 2 The characters saved this show for me. I wish we got more info on Nikkaido. Caiman was a lovable oaf on a mission. He played his part well. My favorite two characters were En’s fixers. Heart mask guy and big brolic woman. Their dynamic was interesting

I can't believe people are recommending this anime to Chainsaw Man fans, it's not even close lol. This is an absolute snoozefest. Incredibly beautiful environments, worlds and character design but incredibly average story. This anime tries to be mysterious and unpredictable and it does it well (in the beginning). But usually, you end up getting your questions answered by the end... well not in this one... It's just a bunch of random plot points stitched together. I have never read the manga, but it seems like anime skipped a lot of it. The characters spawn in random places and do random things with no explanation. It's like watching 1 minute of some anime and then skipping 1 minute of it and so on... So many things don't make sense. There is so many unanswered questions regarding power sys…

It's the fun you don't get everywhere. Like a cold beer at the end of a long day, or the first bite of a pizza after a long while without eating. “God, I needed that”. A series that entertains, that makes me care for the cast without constant suffering. A world that doesn't shove its rules down my throat, floating, carefree in an interesting narrative that doesn't lose track of what matters. I've wanted such a series for a long time, even if it wasn't that easy getting into it. A reptile, Caiman, searches for the mage that turned his head into a reptile, and erased his memories. That's just the protagonist. The world seemed a little too crazy, and I've been to other stories where they always vomit out information about themselves. It tires you, it batters you with information, and it g…

So while I do think this is good as a manga reader I can't help but be disappointed. Dorohedoro I would put in the same book as Berserk when it comes to art style, while not as realistic the style is just oozing out. To see a manga like that get slapped with the CGI treatment greatly disappoints me. Now moving on from that though I think they did a good job, the pacing does feel like things are moving too fast but that can be expected from an anime. The voice actors do great and they're doing a good job at adapting the story and quirkiness of the characters. With a season 2 announcement didn't hit me with all that much excitement it did give me a spark of hope they might switch to 2D animation, I doubt but a man can dream.

Love it, I just rewatched the anime for the second time. I hope it will get a another season soon. I dont really mind the cgi tbh because the story is so good and the charchters are really likeable. This is so far one of my fav animes i am going to read the manga cus i cant wait so long for the second season if it get one. So try it out if you like animes with mystery and fantasy. So give it a try even if you dislike cgi the anime has many great things that compensate for that. Also it has a great looking OP and diffrent kinds of ED.

Trying to decide why I like this series so much. I don't think I've ever seen so much raw insanity in an anime, and while that usually wouldn't set it apart enough to get it this high on my list, the amazing visuals and the incredible music do set it apart. I can't say that the story has developed meaningfully - we have more questions by the end of the season than we did at the beginning - but that's kind of the point. It's not meant to be cohesive, it doesn't want to be, and it's all the better for it, even if that somewhat limits just how good it can be. I'm invested.

Read the manga instead. Japanese animation studios have recently become fascinated with using CG in their work flow. I have no idea why. It looks terrible. As a master once said: “Whoever creates this stuff has no idea what pain is whatsoever. I am utterly disgusted. If you really want to make creepy stuff, you can go ahead and do it. I would never wish to incorporate this technology into my work at all. I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.” "I Believe the Tool of an Animator Is the Pencil" - Hayao Miyazaki I find it offensive particularly because the art in the manga is so good. There's a few exceptions like the background art is fantastically recreated (by Shinji Kimura who also worked on the art direction of Akira, Steamboy and Angel's Egg) and the VAs do a good jo…

Not a big fan of the cgi in this adaption but everything else weighs it out. Very cool steampunk setting with humerous characters and great action! The beginning is a bit confusing at first but trust me it has a very interesting storyline. Though a few things still dont make much sense to me like why is there 2 seperate worlds and how they came to exist. Hoping more will be explained in the future. I cant wait for season 2 to come out I really enjoyed every character this season. Thankful MAPPA animated this its one of my favorites.
