I think this movie is only bad if you look at it from the lens that Evangelion must adhere to one thing - capturing the exact same vibe as the bleak late 90s masterpiece that so many people adore to this day. This movie deviates from following the original story HEAVILY, the tone is way different, and honestly for the first third of the movie, I wasn't really feeling it. "This isn't eva" I thought. But really, this is a pretty great movie with solid writing, decent character development, and two of the most impressive, beautiful, and tense fight scenes I've ever seen in an anime. This film takes risks and drops a lot of the great storylines from the original, and what takes their place definitely doesn't live up to it fully, but it certainly isn't bad. Eva 2.0 is blisteringly fast paced…

This is where the Rebuild movies really started feeling like their own story to me. The movie goes beyond simply remaking the original series and introduces new characters, different relationships and major changes to the story. I really liked how much more confident Shinji feels at times, while still keeping his emotional struggles. Rei and Asuka also get more development, and their relationships with Shinji become much more interesting. The animation is absolutely incredible, especially during the Eva battles. Everything feels bigger, faster and more cinematic than the first movie, but it still keeps that strange Evangelion atmosphere underneath all the action. What surprised me most was how emotional some of the character moments became. The movie can be fun and exciting one minute a…

You Cannot Recreate Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance is a movie that tries to blend many of the best moments from the TV show, but the pacing is wrong and epic action scenes make it feel hollow. Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of my favorite shows of all time, and watching this movie trying to do the show just feels wrong, because the TV showed had the room to just have and fun episode, about the two pilots working together, or slow interspective moments where people talked, and it didn't feel like it had to be fast-paced and action. They is great animation and big moments and music and color, but everything just feels hollow because it's just running through, the main story with just enough difference to call a remake. It's not because I don't like spectacled. Redline is one of my…

I felt like watching Evangelion for the first time. Bizarre. It felt weird at first, not bad, just weird, too much slice of life, really wholesome actually, in the last part of the movie you remember it's Evangelion. Absolutely perfect. Traits and aspects of the main story are changed, some characters roles and plots are switched or slightly ignored, not bad though, it actually fits really well. Although you should watch the original anime, it really passes a similar feeling of the last part. A fun and engaging movie for old Evangelion fans, also a whole new experience. Would watch again. Loved it.

Of course, I judge this film, like the previous one, through the prism of the original series. Departing from the main series' plot is a cool idea, but the film can't seem to break away from it at certain points, e.g. the scene of Rei's suicidal charge in Unit 0 is practically unchanged up to a certain point. That's why I feel that, on the one hand, we have an alternate timeline, but on the other, I feel like it's simply a more enriched/modified plot of the first seriers. I'd prefer if the directors responded on one conception. The main characters' personalities have been significantly modified. Rei seems less coldly clone-like, and Shinji is slightly more decisive. Asuka's character has changed the most, as she casually states several times that she wants to act alone. ADDITIONALLY, we…

TL;DR: "The art direction, animation and music is SSS rank but story-wise you could hear a four line overview of the whole movie and go to the next without losing too much nuance and important plot/character development)." --------------------------------------------------------- O.K. As always, I don't know where to start, so I'll just start anywhere. (TL;DR AT THE END) Recently I've been looking at evangelion media again and decided to see the rebuilds. Notes are good, so decided to give it a try. First movie was basically a remaster of the first part of the anime, but it was really rushed, even though the graphics were absolutely stunning. Didn't think it compensated tho, it's better to watch the original part. What made me continue is the fact that I knew that, from the second movie on…

Because Neon Genesis Evangelion is my favorite work, I thought I might struggle to enjoy the Rebuild films, knowing that small parts of the story had been changed—something I personally consider already perfect. In this film, unlike Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0, which largely follows the same path as the beginning of the original anime, many elements of the 1995 storyline are altered. However, I didn’t find these changes to be negative. Of course, I still prefer the original material, but the modifications don’t harm the work as a whole—on the contrary, they further enrich the Evangelion universe. The animation is beautiful, the sound and music are well crafted, and the cinematography is also stunning. I would recommend any Evangelion fan watch these Rebuild films, with the caveat that I s…

I just love Evangelion—there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s a work so full of personality and power that it gets to me in any of its forms. I love its style, I love its art and visual direction. I love its soundtrack; I love its epic female choirs that give me chills during a battle scene. I love its mythology, its world and its rules. I love the way it portrays its society, the movement of the masses, the bureaucratic and urban progression. I love how it deals with sex and adolescence. Parenthood. Friendship and love. It’s a work with such a perfect foundation in its details that it’s hard to create anything around it and ruin what makes it what it is. I hope this never changes over the years. I hope Evangelion will always be Evangelion.

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. Yes, the second movie, I want to make something clear through this movie so that we can guess how the story will be in the last two movies that I want to watch today and to finish the work. This movie in particular jumped to. The events of the tempo is completely different from the main story. You can also see that the pace has become somewhat faster, this is something expected from the movie. The first difference or change that I saw in this movie is the character of the characters in the story, it changed. We will start with Misato. I felt that Misato’s character, who was somewhat exploitative, became more tolerant than both Shinji and Dr. Akagi. You can also see that she was friendly in some scenes from Kaji, even the restaurant shot suggests that.…

Evangelion 2.22 was a huge step up from 1.11 in the fact that now the Rebuilds have established they're doing their own thing moving forward. Altering or straight up changing the narrative. Characters don't follow their paths in the original series and even some new characters are present. With established expectations of following a somewhat similar story as the original, that is immediately out of the way as the opening scene is entirely original to this movie. The decisions characters make despite being different than the original, still feels as organic and progressive to the characters and plot as the original. Adding in some scenes to really further your immersion in the world, and genuinely make you care for the entire cast of characters, not being reliant on the original to do that…

this is one of the best tv shows i have aver watched and that i will ever watch the artistic talent and creative skill it took to create something so amazing is practically impossible it was a one in a thousand chance that a franchise so constantly good exists. each character is written with a mastery of writing skill making them all entertaining and memorable. the story is the hard sci-fi all anime fans are looking for in the sea of shit that is the seasonal releases now beautifully built and crafted so that nothing is given to you and at the same time everything is given to you which is kept up across 26 episodes 6 films and 14 volumes. in conclusion evangelion: 2.0 you can (not) advance is a high 10/10.

Well, well, well, it seems like we have an anime fan here. Let me tell you about my thoughts on the popular anime movie, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. First off, the story is a step up from the previous installment, with the introduction of new characters and the development of the existing ones. The plot is engaging and keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats. The theme of self-discovery and acceptance is also well portrayed throughout the film. Speaking of characters, the protagonist Shinji Ikari continues to be the focal point of the story, but his character development in this movie is particularly notable. The new characters, such as Mari Illustrious Makinami, add a fresh perspective to the story and provide some great moments of action and drama. The music in this an…

Freedom is an illusion. All you will lose is the emotion of pride. To be dominated by me is not as bad for human pride as to be dominated by others of your species. I watched Hideaki Anno’s Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance on August 8, on Amazon Prime Video, and wow. This is an absolute masterpiece. Continuing the storyline from 1.11., the film focuses on Shinji Ikari, and also deals with the arrival of a fiery redhead German pilot named Asuka Shikinami Langley, along with the emergence of burgeoning new threats and stronger Angels. There is also the emergence of a mysterious, eccentric British pilot named Mari Illustrious Makinami, who appears in Tokyo-3, after a cataclysmic event involving EVA Unit 05 that is shown in the opening sequence of the film. The casting of the Englis…

This movie makes you believe that something genuinley happy is going to happen to these characters. If you watched the original evangelion you know how much these characters are hurt mentally and the suffering they go through so it made me so happy to see something genuinely good for everyone happen to them. But Evangelion 2.0 just says no and just crushes that hope. It's so much more devasting if you watched the original evangelion. I both hate the creators for making me feel pain like this but also I love that they are able to make the audience feel this much emotion.

the rebuilds have been better than what I was expecting, the animation is great, the battle scenes are as amazing to watch as in the original series and in The End of Evangelion. Misato showed to be really important to Shinji's character, in some especific scenes especially. Shinji and Rei also had plenty of significant scenes, which many people might see as romantic love... but as someone that has already watched Neon Genesis Evangelion and The End of Evangelion the reason behind these scenes is already cleared up, but that doesn't matter. Soundtrack was amazing just as in the first rebuild, on the final scenes, there was a really dramatic and tuff battle going on, and along with it, a almost bizzare song playing in the background, like a song for little kids. It's always interesting to…

Here the thing start to desviate to the original series, unlike the firts movie that followed around the firts six episodes of the old one in this case we actually can see the incorporation of a new character as well to differents events that take place all that together with some changes in the characters (althought at his core are all remaining the same kind of essence that the original had). Asuka in this case for example we can see in less and big degree an change in her but that it might be also due to the fact that this movie last around almost two hours so they had to fit many of her development in that time, unlike others characters like ikari or rei that had more screen-time to expand on them counting the firts one and this also (that allows them to not put so much presure or i…

It's faster! It's prettier! It's sexier! It's (Not) Eva! Ahem... While Eva 1.0 was rather faithful to the NGE series, adding a bit here and there (but also taking out a whole butt-load of gold, GOLD I SAY), and giving the first arc a fresh coat of paint, Eva 2.0 acts as a bizzaro-world version of the second third of the show. But that's just the beginning. Let's dive into this thing. Who's your favorite Eva character? Is it Asuka? What did you like about her? Her plunge from confident love interest to jealous rival to fractured soul? Her eventual "redemption" cumulating in one of the greatest (and most heartbreaking) action scenes in animation history in End of Evangelion? Or was it her boobs? Maybe her butt? IS IT HER FOURTEEN YEAR OLD BUTT? Is it Ritsuko? Just kidding, it's obviou…

Reimagining of episodes 8-19 (-10/11/13/16) of the original series that changed many things mostly for the better. Shinji exhibits actual development and character growth here and his final tantrum is handled much better, even though I would have likely preferred it if they skipped that part altogether. Asuka seems more annoying, lacks her previous relationship with Kaji and they skipped over her psycho-trauma to the benefit of the character. Much more characterization and character/relationship building in this than the previous movie. Somewhat at the expense of Misato and Kaji, who seem to get less screen time overall. "Interesting" introduction for the new character Mari and lol at her breasts starting to vibrate near the end. The love triangle and competition between Rei and Asuka turn…

Kept the flow of previous Evangelion 1.0 with further introduction of new characters. It can be regarded as Awakening of Shinji and occurrence of 3rd wave. This part opens the files of Angles and world agency involved in recovery of mass destruction caused unknown alien beings. After the disastrous event of Angle 6, the base of NERV goes into advancement with Evangelions. At the same time Europe and US based defence force has been fall down by the angles. (2.22) So instead of functioning as a rehash like the previous film did, this film instead is a total revision, rewrite, and even overhaul of the source material. So while it does contain much of what already exists in the show, instead 2.22 approaches it’s preexisting material by condensing it and reapplying the core critical points of the source narrative and allowing for more clarity within its addressal of issues such as characterisation. This all results in what very much feels like Hideaki Anno looking back upon his magnum opus and realising how he could clean it up. Now I will admit that this film did catch me off guard as I couldn’t fall back onto the original series allowing form take to better understand that through these films (as was offered by the previous instalment), but…
