Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo

Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo

Introduction

Fourteen years after the Third Impact, the Earth is a post-apocalyptic wasteland, human civilization is in ruins, and the people Shinji Ikari knows are almost unrecognizable. Trapped inside Evangelion Unit-01, he is recovered from space by Asuka Langley Shikinami and Mari Illustrious Makinami, only to find himself a prisoner of WILLE, a military faction led by his former guardian Misato Katsuragi. Cold and bitter, his former allies view him with suspicion and refuse to support him as he comes to terms with the consequences of his actions. A hurt and confused Shinji is rescued from WILLE by Rei Ayanami and returned to NERV headquarters. There, he meets and quickly befriends the enigmatic Kaworu Nagisa, who offers him warmth and insight into the state of NERV's war with the Angels. But Shinji and Kaworu's brief respite lies on the eve of a new battle, one in which Shinji finds that his enemies are no longer Angels but former comrades. In this bitter confrontation to determine the future of the world, Shinji will learn first-hand that the past truly cannot be undone. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

So I watched the first two rebuild evangelion films, the first one was an almost ok remake, there were some things that bothered me like some remover scenes from the original that i through were important and the rushed ending but besides that it was decent, the second one, an abomination for a remake of evangelion, Hideaki Anno basically took his work and decides to rip it from all its dignity and character development, they just turned it into the most generic thing you could think of, ans whats worst, they reduced my girl Asuka into an poor excuse of a tsundere, sayng this, I didnt had big expectations about this thing, to be honest, and now that I watched it all I can say its.............. What a hell of a fanfiction So we are fourteen years after the second movie, and it seems that…

This movie completely threw me off, but somehow that feels very Evangelion. The story jumps forward and suddenly everything is different. Shinji has very little idea of what happened, and I liked experiencing that confusion alongside him. The movie focuses more on the consequences of the previous films, while the characters are dealing with guilt, anger and misunderstandings. The animation is incredible, especially during the Eva battles, and the visuals are some of the most impressive in the Rebuild series. At the same time, the movie can feel confusing and emotionally distant, especially because so much has changed. I didn't understand everything on my first watch, but I found myself thinking about it afterward. It's definitely the strangest Rebuild movie so far, but I appreciate that…

I’m honestly shocked at how badly such a great universe like Evangelion can be ruined. In 3.0, the animation is really solid, same with the sound design, but everything else is rock bottom. The visual effects are impressive, but they can’t save the weak storytelling. The characters are terribly written, with virtually no unique personality. Most of them feel one-dimensional, and even major characters like Shinji or Asuka lose the depth and complexity that made them compelling in NGE and EoE. The story feels childish and is easily predictable, with many plot points lacking logic or proper explanation. It’s hard to take any of the drama seriously, and I feel like this movie is directed at kids rather than longtime fans. Even the atmosphere is off – there’s almost no tension or emotional e…

TL;DR: This movie could've been an email. While first two parts are beautiful recaps of original with minor chagnes, this tries something new. And unfortunately, it flops massively at that. The good: The only good things is that there are some very beautifully animated fights. That's about it. The bad: The plot is very slow, shallow, and yet hard to follow; and makes very little sense even when it's revealed at the end of last part. The movie also uses much of lore from original series, and yet changes some key elements without saying it. The terrible: The whole point of Evangelion - character development - is just not there. No characters but 2 develop at all, and it's a major problem. Character development *was* the Evangeloon. But unfortunately even the tiny bits of development are…

This movie really shows how as soon as Anno and the team of writers step outside the very tightly written NGE and EOE story, how good the original story was, and how unnecessary Rebuild as a whole is. This Kaworu/Shinji movie is pure fancervice, because it's a popular ship, but Akio Satsukawa is no longer in the writer's room to make it gay and romantically ambiguous. No, instead they took an idea that they never used in ep. 24 back in 1996, when Kaworu and Shinji met in abandoned school's music room. Kaworu played piano and Shinji played cello. So, even here they didn't have any fresh ideas, but just took leftovers from the original script, that were never used, because, well, they were not good in the first place. Besides playing the piano and saying that he will save Shinji now, Kawor…

Wow I don't know what to say exactly. This movie proved to me how great "Evangelion Neon Genesis" is. In fact, the anime is legendary in history, the godfather of psychological, mystery and of course mecha anime. From the beginning of the movie to the end, we saw many different things. The way the characters changed from their thoughts to their forms was also amazing, from the fights and the drawing to everything else. I'm excited for the next movie. By the way, there's a movie I'm going to watch today as well: "Shin Evangelion Movie: || 3.0+1.0 thrice upon a time." Yes, from the end of the movie, I didn't feel bored. I want to thank Hideak and Anno for what they did with the idea of a series retelling the great anime Evangelion Neon Genesis. Yes, it was indescribable fun, the characters'…

The action in this show was intense, though for the first thirty minutes or so, I have no idea what all the technical sounding commands that were being thrown around left and right was all about. Communication flow about what went down during the fourteen years between Shinji and the rest of the characters seemed to be nonexistent. It would have prevented a lot of unnecessary confusion for Shinji if someone had actually told him some facts instead of vague "don't touch this" or "don't do that" kind of phrases. At some point during the show, I also started to wonder how such a whiny and wimpy character like Shinji got to have the kind of responsibilities he seemed to have had before. Overall the show was just ok, with an amazing soundtrack that probably saved the day.

I’m really conflicted about this movie. It strays far from being an alternative retelling of the Evangelion anime series and turns into something entirely different. There isn't a single scene that mirrors the original anime—everything here is completely new. And to be quite honest, I can't decide if that’s a good thing or not. If this whole rebuild saga had been its own separate story rather than a rebuild, this would have worked much better, because the movie itself is quite good! But the plot takes such a strange direction that it almost feels like fanfiction of the original series, which is a bizarre feeling. There's a 14-year time jump for some reason, yet none of the characters have aged, which makes no sense at all. It's briefly mentioned and attributed to the "curse of the EVAS,"…

The original Evangelion is known for its complex, raw depictions of human emotions, and the effect different types trauma can have on one's individuality. Eva rebuild 3, however, will not be known for this. Ignoring the blatant character assassination of Shinji aside, many characters are severely underdeveloped. For example, Mitsato and Ritsuko have such little screen time, which is fine with the context of the original route (since you already understand their motivations) but for the rebuild route means when they show up in the final act, their existence has little meaning, acting like emotionally flat robots. This is worse for Asuka and the other pilot (the girl who is introduced as the 4th children in Rebuild 2.0). These characters receive 0 development and only refer to each other a…

this is one of the best tv shows i have aver watched and that i will ever watch the artistic talent and creative skill it took to create something so amazing is practically impossible it was a one in a thousand chance that a franchise so constantly good exists. each character is written with a mastery of writing skill making them all entertaining and memorable. the story is the hard sci-fi all anime fans are looking for in the sea of shit that is the seasonal releases now beautifully built and crafted so that nothing is given to you and at the same time everything is given to you which is kept up across 26 episodes 6 films and 14 volumes. in conclusion Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo is a high 10/10.

It’s ten years old and a remake, spoilers are natural. It looks great despite being ten years old. The soundtrack and use of sound add depth to the gorgeous visuals. What works is all the new and original ideals. Shinji’s isolation by his friends and his return to his “cage”. What doesn’t work is the events we already know are gonna happen; e.g. Nagisa, Kaworu. If you watched the original series, then you already know the fate of Kaworu. And it’s a long boring slog to reach that moment. Also this plan seems entirely dependent on no one in WILLE telling Shinji the truth about what happened. Was that part of the plan Gendou? Honestly, I gave it one whole bonus point for Mari Illustrious Makinami. She’s what this franchise deserves.

So far did not like the reboot series as much as the original. I'll be honest I was going into the movies with high expectations but have been somewhat let-down. Still, that did not let me affect the scoring for these movies. For one thing, this movie has a lot going on in it. A lot of chaos really. While the original series had a more conservative approach with what it introduced and what happened, this movie really did just shoot everything it had. The Story: This picked up right after 2.0, and the 3rd impact. The main objective is to try to stop the 4th impact near the end. We also get introduced to what was the 13th angel in the series and here, yet befriends Shinji. Honestly, it has quite a lot going for it but what really shocked me is the 13-year time jump between the 3rd impact a…

Now that the dust has settled. This is obviously Hideaki Anno doing whatever he couldn't do with Nadia in the early 90s plus both literally within the setting by taking control away from Shinji and symbolically by taking control away from the fans. With the conclusion in the final movie being proof of that. There comes a time in every artist's vision where one has to decide on whether they'll be devoured by their legacy or move on to other things, and this movie honestly was Anno's own turning point. Retreading the steps from "The end of Evangelion" would've been pointless, both it along with the original series stand as their own masterpieces and worthwhile studies for growing artists on how to take advantage of resource limitations, i always saw the Rebuild series of movies as an opportu…

When one discusses film franchises, there are always those that are regarded as the black sleep of that series. Whether it be The Godfather Part III, or the first two films of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, these entries are often looked upon with disdain. This is the reputation that Evangelion 3.33. has garnered, since its release back in 2012. I watched Evangelion: 3.33. You Can (Not) Redo on August 9, on Amazon Prime Video, and it was a really great film. Taking place fourteen years after the events of 2.22., Shinji Ikari wakes up to a world with a much different appearance than the one he once knew. Practically everyone that he had once known had turned against him. For instance, there’s Asuka, with all her bitterness and boiling anger directly aimed at Shinji. The only person whose…

After having watched Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance and been delighted with such amaizing movie with so little to actual complain about and waiting to see this secuel, i fear to say that just didn´t live up (not to my expectation but) to the same quality that delivered the previous installments excepting the animation aspect which was the only thing that keeped the same. As always just an brief review of the movie and my overalls thoughs of it to those interested to know an general overview before seeing it. I have undertand from what i could read in the internet (after finished the movie) about the production of the movie, that this one had problems and it might be the reason that influenciate not only the pace but how off was based in the previous that we could watch in the endin…

rebuild of evangelion 3.0 spoilers As the rebuild had 2 movies which were pretty good but did not touch the "perfection" of the original eva I was a little disppointed with the rebuild just because I thought I would never see anything in the original writing style and yet came the movie 3.0 to completely change the perspective he has for rebuild while in the previous 2 he went to remake the original eva (mainly in the first movie) and from the second to throw you a completely new plot, comes the 3.0 to throw a lot of hints for the connection with the original and present an original plot with the experience that hideaki has gained in the years since the original. I do not know why people have hated this movie so much, basically I know a few reasons just no one tells me exactly what the…

~~SPOILERS~~ To put it bluntly, 3.33 makes a lot of mistakes, from the erratic opening sequence to the underdeveloped Kaworu who is the focus of the second portion of the film. The most egregious offense however was the "movie" that they described when explaining the opening sequence, which by the way, doesn't happen until 25 minutes into the film. The "movie" I am talking about is the 14 year time skip that is discussed (i.e. how Asuka lost her eye, Wille's defraction from Nerv, and the Third Impact). This would have made for a much more interesting movie than what 3.33 was. The whole point of a time skip is to skip over the boring stuff to get to the interesting points. But 3.33 skips over all the good stuff and cuts to... this, a rushed movie that sets the stage for what I am anticip…

This just seems to be a bad Action movie that barely has anything to do with either the series or the previous movies. First the exaggerated use of voices from the off just giving orders or randomly saying things in the background got out of hand for the first half hour of the movie and on my nerves. It was okay how they did it in the series or previous movies, even if not the best story-telling device, but they REALLY went overboard and overdid it here. You finally get to tell something new after years of essentially remakes and quasi-remakes, and you just let people yell pointless vaguely technical sounding gibberish from the off to overly flashy and equally pointless CGI effects for the entire first third of the movie while the viewer, similar to the now-collared Shinji doesn't know wtf…

Quite possibly one of the worst Anime Films that I have ever seen. And I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say so. While I'm sure there are other Films in the Anime Medium that are far worse, judging from what I've seen - this is the absolute worst so far. Its position in the Evangelion Franchise is confusing. As even people who liked the more campy/bombastic bad Michael Bay esq. parody movies like Evangelion 2.0 cannot defend this in terms of its entertainment value. The only thing that gets people to defend this garbage project is rabid-fanboyism. Contrary to popular belief, this film is not in the least psychological, although it is framed as such. I could understand people mistaking it for a psychological film due to its presentation, however the content runs completely holl…

alright lets go. for context, unlike literally everyone else on earth it seems, i didnt like the original evangelion. i've never seen it as some intelligent masterpiece or what have you, its smart sounding bullshit they threw together week by week because the creator was inspired after learning about sigmund freud. i gave the original a 5, mostly for the first half, because the show completely falls apart in the second. for more context, i actually enjoyed the first two movies in the rebuild. i went in expecting nothing, and i was pleasantly surprised. it seemed that they really got a handle on the characters and their motivations. the characters were consistent and even had growth, which i could have never imagined in the original eva. i hated both rei and asuka in the original, but i…
