An improvement over the first one, just as beautiful, just as flawed.
The new scenes that were not in the VN are great and flesh out the story, but they don't fix how rushed the movie can feel at times, and the limited runtime doesn't help, especially when it skips important moments and information from the VN.
I am glad they showed how Shirou was struggling with his ideals; one of my biggest criticisms of the first movie was the absence of Shirou's internal dialog, and I am happy with how they handled it in this one.
This movie has some of the best choreographed animated fight scenes I have ever seen; Ufotable continues to blow my mind.
Amazing work of art despite its flaws.

Alright, this second installment has me sold on the route and the story as a whole.
Following Shirou now as a master that has lost his servant in the Holy Grail war is only one aspect of what makes this route so much more interesting than Rin's; Sakura has a lot of time to shine in this movie, she's compelling, empathetic, and you end up feeling really fucking bad for her. Now, is she written to be a kind of hurt puppy, kicked over and over again? A darkly-sexual victim, defined-by-yet-fighting her trauma, the exact kind of fetish character we typically find as an eroge heroine? Yes, there are definitely remnants of that in her story arc, but I felt like the movie managed to pluck some of those arguably shallow ideas from the source material and make them into a tragedy that rightfully ea…

If the ending of Presage Flower felt like getting kicked in the chest, then Lost Butterfly feels like getting curb-stomped, to death. Lost Butterfly takes all the tragic elements of the previous film, and layers atop it horror, and a story that leaves you sick to your stomach; and as much as it hurts to watch, it’s genuinely incredible. While the animation and soundtrack are the same as ever (godly as ever), Shirou’s character and path completely diverge from their course in the Unlimited Blade Works narrative. Similarly, we see different sides for characters like Illya, Rider, and Father Kotomine.
Sakura finally starts getting more screen time, and that’s both a blessing and a curse; Sakura is a genuinely compelling character in this film, displayed with much more nuance and feeling than…

You'll enjoy this movie if you like fan service and good animation (although it only has one actual fight in the entirety of its 2 hour run). Shirou is as bland as always, somehow managing to unnecessarily make every single sound that comes out of his mouth some sort of shonen yell or scream, and combined with Sakura's naturally boring fanservice personality, this movie is triggering to watch.
Sakura is horny and blushing in every single scene she's in and manages to say "senpai" in an oddly seducing manner at least 2 times for every minute of screentime that she has. Shirou is bland and makes stupid choices but that's probably just the movie faithfully adapting the traits of a visual novel, which calls for a normal mc that players can project themselves onto and stupid decisions, but th…

Dont like anime movies. This however is good, Quite enjoy how more dark and twisted and overall just fucked it gets the more you longer it goes on, its like confusing as shit but not in the bad "what the hell am I watching" way, but instead in the "holy shit what the hell am I watching way". Really good.
No matter what I expected, somehow every second Im getting thrown around and my expectations thrown to the void, It's incredible how they managed to pull it off and executed in such a wall played out manner. The sheer amount of time I had to pause, and rewind just so I could re-live the absolute insanity I've just witness is absolutely wild, never a dull moment.

So I wasn't ready for that. I went to wet my neck at the end of the movie.
Madness. Rape. Dismemberment. Masturbation. Cannibalism. If after seeing the anime I had been told that this would be part of a Fate/Stay Night piece, I wouldn't have believed it. Not that the two anime are cute feel good movies, there are some pretty violent scenes too, but this second Heaven's Feel movie takes it to another level. The story embraces a much more tortured realisation than before, we're clearly on an angry seinen. The first movie proposed an interesting variation of the Holy Grail War, but despite some stylish fights it remained relatively wise. It let us perceive that the continuation of this 3rd road would be darker and more mature, but I didn't expect it to be so!
The story takes a radically dif…

Lost Butterfly, the second installment of the trilogy of films adapting the final route of the Fate Stay Night VN, trudges on through the dreary and desolate waters that is Heaven's Feel, as it proves itself to easily be the darkest entry to the Fate Stay Night adaptations, dealing with extremely disturbing topics like rape, murder, torture etc etc. Being the turning point of not just Heaven's Feel, but arguably the entire VN as a whole, one would not be surprised of the rave reviews it has gotten. After all, who can fault them? Shirou's development is very refreshing compared to the cliche hero archetype that most anime onlys see him as, Sakura's origins are revealed, and oh boy is she messed up to say the least. The tone is much more grim and serious, with our protagonists ideals being t…

The second movie of the trilogy. The movie is not bad, the truth remains, until the animation improves. The only thing I don't like is the girl he stays with on this route I don't like. So I feel like he loses me because of it so he's kind of boring because of it. On top of that, they don't give the best waifu Rim as much of a leading role. But well, it only remains to see how this ends with the last movie. The animation is excellent as always, the soundtrack is not bad. The development of the characters is very good, we know much more about the girl with whom the protagonist stays.
I like that it complements the story of the original series as it expands its world more, and that helps you understand more of the story in general. In short, it's very good, I recommend it. Also in this movie…

For this particular movie out of the three, this one is the most uncomfortable due to Sakura's masturbation scenes. Turns out those scenes are necessesary for showing how fucked up Sakura is.
I used to hate Sakura and I found the sex scene was disgusting so I gave 2, until today, after finishing the trilogy, reading some fate VN, diving the fandom and reading too much doujin, I realized, Sakura is indeed a degenerate but that's okay TM is a porn based company anyway. Still looking down on Sakura, but it's Type Moon x Ufotable x Aimer, giving it a bad rate is a sin.

Wow look! We are in ANOTHER Fate branch of the same Holy Grail war we have seen before! It has some things borrowed from the past, but it really just glosses over them, because its assuming you have been beaten to death with the lore, rules, and characters of this series. With that in mind, I'll say it again in this review and the next one when I finish movie #3, DO NOT START HERE.
Anyways, I won't have to worry about shout outs to characters being spoilers if you have watched Fate at all, but skip the rest of the review if you need to.
This version of the beloved Fate series is like having something new in the room you're sitting in and having someone shout about the older version of the same thing down the hall. Sakura is finally more heavily involved and you get to see the twisted cr…

Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel - Lost Butterfly is the second of a trio of movies that takes place in the Heaven's Feel timeline. I'll assume you've seen the first movie for the purposes of this review.
Story: This second movie takes place right after the first, and already we're dealing with a Holy Grail War that is very quickly ramping up so much that it feels like it's going out of control. After I mentioned in my review of the first movie that it feels like they were introducing us to this war, I can safely say that this takes very little time in throwing us right into the thick of things. Many servants are already gone and instead of giving us more content on more servants, this movie focuses on a pretty small cast. This, of course, includes Sakura, who we now see why she is the focu…

This is the first time anything has made me want to write a review and ill just jump right into it ( minor spoilers ahead)
I love the fate franchise so far. This is a very unique story with so many well written characters whether you like them or hate them. But there's one reason i wanted to share my opinion on this movie. The constant need to show and tell about the dark side of Sakuras past and present. I understand what she is being used for and i have no qualms about that, i understand that fate was originally an eroge visual novel. But the constant need to show and talk about Sakura being abused sexually really stroke a nerve with me. The fate series has been changed to not be eroge or ecchi in any way in the ufotable anime adaptation. this is the first time we see actually sex scen…

A couple weeks back I looked at the first film in the Fate/Stay Heaven's Feel trilogy. It was okay. The main issue it suffered was one that seems common to a lot of these Fate anime, Shirou is rubbish. But let's take a look at the second film and see if it improves at all.
Story:
We open where Presage Flower left off. Saber has been absorbed by a strange red and black creature. Shirou is an entire toolbox. Zouken and Assassin are causing major problems. In Lost Butterfly, Shirou and Rin rescue Sakura from her brother, discover some uncomfortable truths about her past, go to Illya's rescue when the strange being comes after her and Berserker and the identity of the creature gets revealed.
There are a couple big story problems with the film. The first is that it contains some serious to…

I wasn’t too pleased with the pacing of the first movie. I’m glad to report that Heaven’s Feel II not only has its events flow together better, but also has more going on.
The plot starts getting more interesting. The mystery of the shadow escalates as it gets up to more and more. Shirou not having a Servant anymore yet still being the most active member of the war is easily the coolest part. And all of that buildup from Sakura loving Shirou finally pays off as she starts being doing things, too.
The fights this time around have more weight and they fit into the story better. The first movie felt like it had all of these Servants but didn’t want them for the story it wanted to tell, so it started killing off the loose fat very quickly. Now that we’re in the thick of it, consequences of…

The movie is like this segment, just amazing.
Once again ufotable did an amazing job and it is because of masterpieces like this that it is my favourite studio.
Let's start with the story:
Heaven’s Feel: Lost Butterfly is definitely the most sinester/dark route, insted of the other routes heaven's Feel does not show that epic moment for every character and it as less fantasy. At least for me I could feel the despair in the characters, The pace of the first movie was a problem for me but this sequel was way bether although maybe some people will still not like it.
ART:
The art like other Fate's, Kara no Kyoukai and tsukihime well Type Moon works are incredible. Just name a bether duo than Type Moon…

Heaven's Feel II is fantastic. It surpasses all 'anime' genre constraints and can be reasonably called "a fantastic film" as opposed to just a "fantastic anime film." It is unambiguously great. It's mostly a continuation of the story from Heaven's Feel I (surprising no one), and it swerves so far from Unlimited Blade Works in this that I hesitate to call them the same anime. The divergence in Heaven's Feel I was massive (nothing the same after the title sequence), but in this it just straight up changes genres.
I'm a good Christian boy, so I can't root for premarital s*x, but this movie made me literally cheer for it. This movie is a horror, a romance, a shounen, and a mystery. If any one of those is your deal, watch it. If you've seen UBW, watch the Heaven's Feel movies, its like getting…

This movie is more about Emiya Shirou's determination not to win The Holy Grail War but to help the ones he loves than one about mages and mythical heroes. Since the very beginning of the film, Shirou is not wretched for losing the war but for losing his Servant and still he is willing to help his allies.
The movie still focuses on Sakura Matou, especially on her past –if you have seen Fate/Zero you will not be surprised but at least you will be provided more details on that-. As we are revealed the dark secrets of Sakura's past, Shirou will realize why he wants to protect her, Shirou will realize he loves her and do everything for her to live a happy life.
The final act of this film turns it into a horror movie as it shows the darkest side of mages and heroic spirits involving gore and se…

I just wanna say, this was a complete and utter waste of my time. Because I had watched Fate/Stay Night and UBW, I had foolishly thought that Heaven's Feel would be a lot like them, albeit darker. I should've noticed when the first movie didn't meet up to expectations.
It really feels like the people behind Heaven's Feel asked, "Hey, so poetic cinema consists of pretty lighting and people staring at each other without saying anything, right?" and no one corrected them. Of course there were some good moments in the movie! But overall, as several reviews have pointed out, this was ultimately an anime based on a porn game. I have not played this game, nor do I ever intend to, but I really just wonder. Why?
Here's Heaven's Feel, going all out with the hyper-sexualization of some high schoo…

*Spoiler-free review*
As a reader of the original visual novel, I greatly appreciated the effort put into this movie, especially a certain scene depicting Sakura in an Alice in Wonderland dream, hinting at a very different scene from the original.
I am certainly biased, and I have rated everything high simply out of me enjoying this movie so much. However, it still had its flaws. For instance, the fact that one of the most plot-heavy routes of Fate/Stay Night didn't get a TV-series, but rather three movies is wasteful. A positive of it is of course that they were able to adapt it accurately to the original without need of censoring, but a dire consequence of that is that it steals away screen-time that could have been used to develop the characters way better, and not making the whole m…

Before starting this Review I wanted to highlight two points here:
1 - The Heavens Feel Route is my favorite in the original Visual Novel and it is the best written, deep and epic thing I have ever read in the entire Nasuverse, it is a pity that Ufotable have executed it that way.
2 - Sorry for some english mistakes, it's not my primary language
> ART 10/10
To sum up, even with my disappointments and revolts, in the end it is still a Ufotable production, so nothing different from the ordinary. Art, animation, design, among other visual aspects, are perfect, totally well set according to the type of narrative and are breathtaking, especially in the action scenes.
> SOUND 9/10
The soundtrack os also as expected from Type-moon and Ufotable, its phenomenal and impeccable, if in the third…
