GATE Part 2

GATE Part 2

Introduction

Several months have passed since the infamous Ginza Incident, with tensions between the Empire and JSDF escalating in the vast and mysterious "Special Region" over peace negotiations. The greed and curiosity of the global powers have also begun to grow, as reports about the technological limitations of the magical realm's archaic civilizations come to light. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Youji Itami and his merry band of female admirers struggle to navigate the complex political intrigue that plagues the Empire's court. Despite her best efforts, Princess Piña Co Lada faces difficulties attempting to convince her father that the JSDF has no intention of conquering their kingdom. Pressured from both sides of the Gate, Itami must consider even more drastic measures to fulfill his mission. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

ass... ass, pure ass, just ass. Whoever wrote this story needs to be checked on the chance they are mentally retarded. Like please, what the fuck is this story??? The season starts with this hard pivot into more darker themes, and then it just disappears. The characters are inconsistent, nothing makes sense any more, and the politics which could have made this show more interesting have been thrown out the window and are now being used only to make sure they don't just pull out a nuclear bomb and colonize the other world. If you are wondering how this show has a higher rating than a five, then its probably the fan service. The show has given up on making a good story and are now throwing everything they got at the gooners. EVERY RELEVANT CHARACTER IS A GIRL FOR FUCK SAKES. All the women lo…

The second part of GATE doesn't stop to deliver. It's as fun, interesting and intriguing to watch as the first part. Consider it a follow-up to my review of the first part. First of all, the plot didn't lose it's direction - it remained fast-paced, intriguing, and what I didn't mention in the previous review, world is alive outside the main character's view. While he's absent, there's things happening at the military base, not only there - but in the other places of the world. This just makes the plot much more intriguing, it makes the world MUCH more alive - I can't even express the joy of watching this show for the first time, after tons of generic isekais with overpowered main heroes, loyal harems, and stories revolving only, and only around MC. Itami may be overpowered in the show, b…

Well, Part 2 picks up right where Season 1 left off and keeps the momentum going strong. This cour dives deeper into the political side of the Special Region. We get more tension between the Empire and the JSDF, some serious power struggles inside the royal family, and of course, plenty of over-the-top action when modern military tech meets fantasy threats. The highlight for many will be the Fire Dragon arc — those battles are intense, satisfying, and show just how big the gap between worlds really is. Itami and his quirky group are back and as entertaining as ever. The humor is still there, the fanservice hasn’t gone anywhere, and the chemistry between the characters remains one of the best parts. At the same time, the show adds more weight to the story with diplomacy, betrayal, and highe…

Huge disappointment. Most of the characters are retarded. The main enemy of Japanese soldiers was the bureaucracy. The anime is just Japanese military propaganda. Awesome setting - shooting aborigines. The first season was promising. The art style, voiceover, and animations are the only positive things. Most of the characters are mentally retarded and do not understand cause-and-effect relationships. The only strength of some characters was their appearance. The characters' actions were unreasonable most of the time. Their misdeeds were easily forgotten or forgiven, which is hard to comprehend. You may enjoy this anime if you don't care about looking at savage species in their natural habitat, with some occasional raids by the Japanese military. My rating is 2, but I added one point for…

Somehow Worse than season 1. I don't see how people rate this a 7. I want to like it, I really do but the bad writing makes it darn near impossible. Maybe it's not as bad in the comics/manga but holy shit man. Primarily the bunny lady, but even if she wasn't in the story at all it would simply go from Bad to Mediocre/Boring writing with a lack of depth. Also a lot of open ends but that's of course because the show is over but the Manga goes way further I imagine. I won't go into spoilers but literally every single issue with season 1, isn't fixed or gets worse. It's unsatisfying, the writing is stupid at all times. Literally all it's got going for it is fan service and stuff like that. Even the action is very mediocre. There's a lot of "gaps" unresolved things, sudden jumps. Possible that…

The events continue from the first season with the Fire Dragon mission, followed by side missions until the war and political coup begin. Overall, it was enjoyable but fell short of the first season's level due to some events feeling irrelevant to the main storyline. Additionally, there were episodes with a modified version from the studio, including the ending. With the expansion of the world, the number of characters increased significantly. The role of the Itami' Battalion diminished, and new characters took up more than two episodes dedicated to them, or even an entire arc. This was a positive aspect, as it developed the side characters. The production quality remained unchanged, with the same drawing and animation style, which is excellent. The opening and ending songs, along with t…

This season suffers from the same issues as the first. On one side, we follow Itami’s personal journey; on the other, we dive into politics and diplomacy. The problem is, these two threads rarely feel connected, making it seem like you’re watching two different anime that just happen to share the same world. Worse, this season introduces even more illogical decisions and strange developments that are hard to justify. The 12-episode format doesn’t help either—there simply isn’t enough time to flesh things out properly. Instead of committing to one direction, the anime tries to do a little bit of everything: some romance, some diplomacy, some world-building, and some action. But since none of these elements are fully developed, everything feels half-baked. It’s like playing an RPG and putti…

One of the most unique isekai premises out there. Instead of the usual setup where the main character is reincarnated into a fantasy world, Gate asks: What if a portal suddenly connected our modern, high-tech world with a medieval fantasy one? The anime tries to explore the military and political consequences of this scenario, with scenes of negotiations, diplomatic meetings, and armed conflicts between the two worlds. It draws inspiration from real-world geopolitics and is surprisingly well-researched in that regard. The premise is incredibly interesting—but sadly, the execution falls short. The biggest issue? The characters. They’re shallow and lack meaningful development. The protagonist is your typical “nice guy” otaku who constantly reminds everyone he loves anime (seriously, he nev…

If you are a boy that loves Isekai Harem and modern army forces then this is for you. Of course if you loves S1 this S2 is definitely good to watch. There are many jokes and some fanservices here although not to the degree of Ecchi genre. In this S2, there are several main issues and strongly focused on politics (instead of slice of life) and war. Compare to Manga: the manga drawing is amazing, the story in manga already progress much into what would be complete S3 of this anime. But sadly the anime version branches differently and decided to end everything in S2 without any hope for S3. Also manga version has many more fanservices and nudity than the anime version. The story in anime starts becoming different from manga in S2. [The NEGATIVE] I would say is that the enemy isn't on the…

It's alright I guess. In this you'll watch the SDF have the killcount in the thousands, unfair trade deals amounting to colonialism, regime change, encourage unprofessionalism to some extent, possibly break their own treaties, and more. I mostly liked the episodes about the Fire Dragon. A nice story arc about revenge as well as moving on. Graphics are not bad. Nothing seems out of place. It is a harem show where the 3 girls around Itami never really waver in their devotion to Itami and things are just brushed aside. Looks like it was setting things up for a third season which I suppose explains that. The end of the season went better and faster than I expected. Still a lot of loose ends.

Just got done with this beauty of an anime. Just as Part 1 I love Part 2 as well. Though I have to say Part 1 is probably better. To put it simply it is a story that's all about world building and character development. It picks up from where we left off. Which a majority of the beginning is settling peace with the fantasy world. Itami continues to take orders, or rather in some cases makes these orders happen to get hired on and help out others in need. And through our this second part the crown prince decides to he wants to reclaim his dignity as a country and decided to push for war against Japan. We can already guess how that's gonna go as a watcher of this anime, but seeing it played out is just amazing. We also have more story building with Rory, Lelei, and Tuka in different episode…

There are less action scenes, and the ones that are present don't always look as good as in part 1. The main issue is that cg background characters are used more often and their movement is unnatural looking. There is also less consistency in the amount of character detail than part 1. However, on the positive side, the characters are given a bit more depth, and we explore the characters a little more than in part 1. The story remains solid, and I would say the pacing is a little but quicker than part 1. The voice acting continues to be alright, but not amazing. The soundtrack is still quite good, and the op/ed are also still good. Overall, I feel part 2 is perhaps slightly more enjoyable than part 1 thanks to the extra character depth and quicker pacing. Still fairly rough in some regards…

Solid fantasy anime with some good and meh points. The good is the story, it's pretty interesting with a good mix of fantasy and politics. While there are some plot lines and arcs that I found more interesting than others, it does a good job of keeping me interested and suspending my disbelief. The meh is the characters, all pretty one-note with a main character that is weeb fulfillment to the max (He's a hardcore otaku who also happens to be a super badass military dude that has a harem of women around him all the time...ok, sure). While there are character arcs, I am hesitant to say that there is any real character growth, save for maybe the Princess. The animation has some ups and downs. They do this really cool thing where some backgrounds look like they were hand drawn, but on t…

This season somehow ended up more disappointing to me than previous one. Authors touch on many different subject only to never explore any of them. On the surface it's more of the same from previous episodes but it really it changed genres to something akin to adventure but filled with politics, harem and even touches on incest with whole "daddy" thing. Military is even more trigger happy than in previous while maintaining this "we are angels" attitude constantly. It's insulting. Characters end up being a bit further from reality and rational acts this time around. All in all worth the watch but it's meh. Had to drop it for a while and then get back to it just so I could feel I completed it. If you don't think about it or events going on in front of you, it's fine. The moment you start pa…

Part 2 was a disappointment, whereas Part 1 started strong, Part 2 dropped the ball. Itami our slacker Lieutenant, who is also apparently a highly trained elite, had now gone from being the problematic type to being the base hero, as everyone keeps repeating the mantra "What would Itami do?" It is frustratingly annoying to watch because if you saw Part 1, you know that his Commanding Officer is the one who gave him sufficiently vaguely worded orders to get things done, and expected those things of him. Which then begs the question, is Itami really the only person who can get things done? For all those complaining that this is a JSDF flag waving piece, they have missed the subtext here that the JSDF apparently has no free thinking officers that can act, or are capable, beyond Itami, as it…

I loved it, unlike other anime, this one not only maintains its level, but also improves it, that is, I can't believe how good it is being something so cliche. We see a political plot very well managed with a harem with romance, everything works perfectly. The protagonist knows what he's doing, he's never a shit, he always thinks it's better for the kingdom and the people he loves. It is an anime where I did not expect anything and it gave me everything I like, a political anime with romance and many waifus. The animation is good, it has a good soundtrack, the character development is very good and the design is also excellent. The truth is I don't give it a 10 because it doesn't have more seasons but for me it's one of my favorite animes of the year. I'm not going to lie, I'm sad because…

A second season of the same quality as the first season is rare, but it is the case with this anime. Everything was well done, and the continuation was amazing. The story continues where we left off and gives us what we want, with no tricks or twists whatsoever. Coming from the first season, I had lots of questions as to what will happen in the future. Happy to say that this season answered these questions clearly and then some. This is a very good continuation, and the transition is seamless. No complaints here, and if there are I can't think of any right now. The characters are also of the same quality. They all remain vibrant and alive, which makes them very appealing. The contrast between Primitive V.S. Modern is still there and is still utilized well here. Such a simple premise can…

I'm writing this review after watching all the 24 episodes (since they are more like one season than two separate ones), so I'm reviewing the two seasons (without taking that much into account the "propaganda" that people who review lowly this anime talks about, since I'm not the one to talk about it, I don't live in Japan and I don't know that much about Japan military forces to do it). The story: The main story line is good: A portal to another world opens in Japan, and the emperor uses his forces to try to conquer Japan. After that, the Japanese SDF (self-defense forces) are commanded to go to this other world in order to investigate and to obtain resources and avoid any war. Between all this plot, we have the lieutenant Itami, our MC, an ex-military who ended up in all this mess be…

I don't usually write reviews, but I felt like I needed to comment on this one. I'll start by saying that Gate was a pretty enjoyable anime to watch. It's definitely a lot fresher than most of the other isekai anime I've seen, and it has a nice Youjo Senki vibe. There is something cathartic about watching roman era soldiers getting mowed down like modern artillery, the same pleasure you feel when you invade a country in Civ that's 2 or 3 eras behind you and you start stealth bombing catapults. Maybe this stuff isn't your cup of tea, but I personally enjoyed it. That being said, there are two big issues with this show that were enough for me to reduce what I would otherwise consider to be a 8 or even 8.5 show down to a 6: 1) The blatant militant nationalist political agenda The main per…

Based on my last review of the Prequel I definitely enjoyed the show. This is basically the sequel of what season 1 left off but added a new waifu! The Jietai is still running but with mass media from different countries which bothered japan of course. The end conflict was just plain stupid picking a fight on a nation that are years ahead of them. Needless to say the sequel is great picking where we left off and finishing it off without a cliffhanger, Feels like we don't need a Season 3 anymore (but many might want it)(and OVA plis). Definitely a show that may interest military-brains, Most otaku's, Waifu shills, and alike! I give it 8/10 overall and will continue to watch out what A-1 Pictures has more to offer.
