Despite my best efforts to ignore all the warning signs presented from the previous cour and OVA, I cannot deny that this is where Haikyuu’s anime adaptation has officially jumped the shark. My thought process after finishing the first half of this season was that they were probably punching below their weight in the training arcs in order to allocate adequate focus to the more exciting tournament matches. Unfortunately, this hope ended up being proven immediately wrong and the result is a show which is merely a shell of its former self rather than what should be the pinnacle of the series.
As this cour’s objective is to broadcast an entire game of volleyball it had very big shoes to fill in order to measure up to previous seasons. Haikyuu up to this point had essentially set the new stan…

This is one of those anime you start casually… and suddenly it becomes your entire personality. I began watching it maybe last year, maybe this year... honestly, who even knows anymore 😃 With all the other anime and series I was juggling, I just couldn’t get around to finishing it. But now I’m UNFORTUNATELY done, and it makes me want to cry all over again xdd. This anime took me through every possible emotion. I enjoyed every single match with them, cheering like a maniac, screaming at the screen, crying at the emotional moments, swearing when things went wrong, and yes… even smacking myself in the head when they made a stupid mistake. The emotional damage was real. As a sports anime, it hits differently, especially if you actually like volleyball. The energy, the teamwork, the tension, t…

[Spoiler-free summary]:
Haikyuu was once a series I held in high regard. What began as a heartfelt, compelling sports anime had slowly crumbled over time and this season is, without question, easily the weakest one in the series. From excessive exposition and repetitive plays to the overuse of inner monologues, the storytelling was beyond clumsy. Our main characters are sidelined in favour of throwaway backstories, destroying whatever was built in the earlier seasons. While I enjoyed the final few episodes, it was still far from being able to redeem the season.
[Full review; SPOILER ALERT]:
The most glaring issue with To the Top Part 2 is the endless exposition and inner monologues. Every character’s thought process is spoon-fed to the audience as though we’re incapable of understanding…

Just 3 words- HAIKYUU IS AMAZING!
No anime can come close to this one. There is not a single episode you want to skip, it keeps you on the edge of your seat and it is just so damn beautiful to watch the Karasuno boys play. Seriously love them from the bottom of my heart.
I am so excited to watch the dumpster battle movie and really see them fighting well against Nekoma. This anime makes you feel things you havent felt before. Its just beautiful! I would rewatch them again and again and I will never be bored of them. Happy that each character gets screen time even if its an opposition team. I wish Hinata was given more screentime during the matches but he only lent a hand at the survivals. But then this also helped shine the rest of the characters who can be seen having their own person…

The series has never been stronger. It's particularly gratifying to watch Hinata really come into his own as a more complete player, putting his training into practice in a meaningful way after so many struggles and, more importantly, finding that way by means that suited his character. There isn't quite as much development in the play of other characters on Karasuno, but they all make meaningful changes and it's definitely nice to see Kageyama put his work and dedication into practice on the court.
While that alone would be enough to elevate this season, it's also their opponents that make more out of this. We get a surprisingly deep impression of how this Tsubakihara works together as a team and how each individual player affects the flow of the team. It's not focused around a single pl…

Haikyuu!! To The Top part 2 showcases yet another important side of sports competitions, and that is the psychological aspect
The match vs Inarizaki really emphasises how the volleyball court is but one small part of the arena's massive playing field
The psychological influence that can come from beyond the court is nothing short of mindblowing
One thing that could be a bit of a hit or miss is the many flashback scenes
Personally i think they were executed to perfection, giving a nice insight of the characters past without breaking the pace of the games
Aside from the main event of Karasuno vs Inarizaki, we also get a couple eps dedicated to Nekoma, finally seeing one of their official matches in detail and getting to know the players style and personality a lot better

I had high hopes for this season, but the initial bad pacing and the bland visuals really put a damper on my excitement. Despite that, I still found it impressive that Production IG managed to complete this season for fans under COVID-19 restrictions, such as by outsourcing certain scenes to different studios.
As I kept watching, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the season’s quality started to get better after episode seven, with the match really taking the excitement up a notch. It may have had a rough start, but Season 4 of Haikyuu!! is definitely still worth watching, especially for its end-of-season teaser for the long-awaited Battle at the Garbage Dump.

"Getting too much is almost as bad as not getting any." If you don't know where this quote is from, it's because I read it from a doujin, but it might just hold true for this cour of Haikyuu:To the top. That is because, who decided to have the whole cour dedicated to a single match? And so let me introduce the undesired younger sibling of the Shiratori Zawa match.
Well, Shiratori Zawa was more the undesired sibling, since the match itself wasn't as good, but the build up was much better. Like, a match that lasted 14 episodes (note that the average length of a volleyball match, according to Google goes from 60 to 90 minutes. This match was easily double the length), surely, the opponent was some fated rival or some other shonen bullshit right? Nop…

haikyuu has been consistently going at it for 4+ seasons. it is out of this world and no other show will ever replicate the quality and richness of the sense of friendship, team dynamics, and passion of adolescence as haikyuu does. the dialogue, relationships, building of characters and anticipation, pacing of haikyuu outperforms other sports anime on every possible level.
haikyuu is tier A and considered one of the best, must-watch shows out there for a heartwarming, tearjerking, endless supply of hype. it has dozens of characters that are so well fleshed out and that you fall in love with, and the main ones show tremendous grow and it's a rollercoaster of emotions to watch them perform and cheer for them, and the anime makes you feel like you really are there in the audience cheering w…

I gave it an 8 but it was barely so. The season was good for what it was. The animation is still good and the VAs are great. Pacing though this season was just meh.
My biggest complaint is that it is 12 episodes of a single game (with one other game, played by another two teams, thrown in haphazardly that honestly I couldn't have cared less about). It just felt that it took way to long to actually end. If this took 12 episodes then how are they supposed to justify any other matches that will be played not taking the same or more?

Haikyuu!! To the Top 2nd Season
If anyone has seen my other reviews, they know I like Haikyuu. This anime had everything for me to be entertaining and engaging. But this all started to crumble after the third season came out and now it's over. Watching this season was honestly a disappointment and a painful one at that.
The relatively fast pacing died, the scenes just didn't have any dynamics anymore, except for the last 5 minutes. And to make it worse, the animations went down the tubes. More than half of the faces this season looked like they were drawn by an amateur who had just been thrown into the studio. Episode 9 in particular... uhh ohh.
The actual game itself wasn't any better, it was boring and very sluggish. Even though the 2 twins as opponents weren't that bad. I thought t…

Haikyuu!!: To the Top is very suitable title. It is has succeeded in picking the fruit that was planted in the part 1. Karasuno now have two demon, not just demon and his club again. Of course if you expect the match like Karasuno vs Shiratorizawa you won't get it in this season. What we get from this season is the evolution of Hinata. Hinata fall into Volleyball deeper than before. But it is not just Hinata, we see all Karasuno first year improvement in this season.
We also have Miya twin as the rival of Kageyama in this match. But the existence of Miya Atsumu sure bring Hinata hope for the future. If Hinata can polish his own skill, he probably can play volleyball independently parted with Kageyama. It is in the title to the Top, the title speak for Hinata and Kageyama the two player wh…

I can’t believe I waited a year to finally watch Haikyuu's latest season!!!!!
Seems like that has been my line lately, wahahaha. But seriously, I guess I just get cowardly when it comes to my favorite series. I always make excuses to hold on to them as long as I can, but then again, no one can tell me not to watch it again and again right? So I should really watch or read them sooner if I really want to and not make excuses every time. That is probably what I am going to work on changing next year, *wink.
Back to this series, I have been following it since I first watched it last 2018. I even wrote an article about how I really enjoyed this series here. So I’ve watched 4 seasons and all its OVAs and movies for the past year. Does this series still hold a big place in my heart? Looking at…

Roughly three years after the last proper season of Haikyuu!!, the production staff for the series underwent major changes, such as replacing its previous director as well as animation director. The changes to its staff as well as the impact of COVID-19 have both been detrimental to the once consistent and energetic quality the series had boasted in the past. Unfortunately, Haikyuu!!: to the Top's greatest enemy is its own series' legacy. While there are glimpses of brilliance over the course of this arc, it largely lives in the shadows of preceding seasons' stellar animation, pacing, and character development.
The most notable difference on the surface is the decrease in animation quality and the roughness of To the Top's art style. While viewers could occasionally catch some awkward-lo…

I'm gonna have to agree with most reviewers on this site and say that this season of Haikyuu!! was incredibly underwhelming. It was just one endless volleyball match intercepted with random character background for the most random characters, it was like they were picking names out of a hat. I actually put off watching this for a long time and only finished the season because I missed the boys, otherwise I wouldn't have. I did like seeing some of the characters grow, though, and there were admittedly funny and entertaining bits, but overall it was a little boring :( which is really disappointing after the previous seasons felt much stronger in my eyes.

[I've finished most of the manga (I've just skipped the nekoma match and the kamomedai match and read the timeskip portions) so there are some minor references I'll be making in this review which may count as spoilers.]
Let me preface this view by saying that Haikyuu is definitely one of my favourite series, so if the review sounds a little biased, it probably is. With that being said, I can definitely see why some fans were disappointed by this season, and for decent reasons.
Story - I did feel like the match dragged a little at times, but overall it still kept me hooked and excited to watch each week. The only thing that was altered which was kind of annoying was a scene where one of the minor characters helped Yamaguchi's character development. It was kind of rushed in the anime compa…

This match was probably the turning point of my Haikyuu experience. I binge watched the first three season and loved it, but as Bokuto and Tsukki says, I really fell one level deeper into it and my moment has come hahaha. This was the season that actual tears fell out my eyes seeing Hinata’s struggling and hard work in the beginning of the season take place. It made me really understand and feel all the growth that happened from season 1.
After finishing the season, I picked up the manga. It was my first time reading manga and it really made me so emotion. Furudate sensei really created an amazing world and there were so many great lessons that apply not only to volleyball.
I said this in my part one review, but I’m going to copy and paste again. They decided to change the artwork to fit…

After countless rewatches of Haikyuu!!: To the Top, I can finally say there's a drop of consistency in the visuals and story development.
First, we got a noticeable difference in Hinata's character design. The depiction felt a lot more "shrimpy"-like highschooler, which suits more for the character. As the story progresses, you'll find more inconsistency in facial expressions from some of the characters, and at times their faces could go really deformed that it's unintentionally annoying and funny but in wrong circumstances. Body perspective sometimes felt a bit off. But at best, the quality of it is on par with the first three seasons.
Now with the story, some premises from flashbacks are mismatching with the conclusion made by Hinata and Kageyama. It's not like picking up puzzle pieces…

We finally see Karasuno progressing as they battle against Inarizaki. Much like Season 3, this focuses on only one match for them. Rather than show training beforehand, they instead have replaced this with showing Nekoma face off against Sarukawa.
In regards to art style, this is probably the worst season so far. It still worked at making the scenes intense, but some of the facial expressions and body movements are so unnatural and are like some of their limbs are broken.
This was actually probably the best season for sound. The Miya brothers' theme was so intense and engaging, it had me on the edge of my seat and filled me with anticipation every single time.
Shouyou Hinata (The Strongest/Ultimate Decoy, Number One Shortie, Simpleton Idiot, Certain Wild Child of Ours, Chibi-chan, Mi…

What to say about this season well I can say this for sure I don't write reviews for anime that I don't fuck with but I can say within absolute certainty in my own opinion that the 4th season or season three part two whatever you prefer knocked it straight out of the court. It was really like starting off slow and then picking up the pace with a fantastic finish at the end with them beating Inarizaki fantastic season can't wait to watch the match with Nekoma. This new season of Haikyuu not only gave us new content to devourer, but we also get to see an upgrade in terms of character designs and animation. On the surface level, the difference between the old and new art is not really visible, but you’ll be able to catch on to the changes. It’s like the characters, for some point, “matured” w…
