There are so many issues with Hitorijime My Hero that it’s hard to know where to start — but to put it simply: it’s just a bad anime.
The premise actually had potential, but the execution is a complete mess. The story is dull, poorly developed, and fails to make you care about anything that happens. The main couple, Kousuke and Masahiro, perfectly embodies everything wrong with the show — and they’re easily the most problematic part of it.
The so-called age gap between them is incredibly uncomfortable. Not only is it a relationship between a teacher and his student, but the show also romanticizes it to the point of making it seem harmless or even sweet — which it absolutely isn’t. The dynamic completely ignores the imbalance of power and the emotional v…

Even tho it was fun to watch because it offered plenty of humorous moments that lightened the mood, I have mixed feelings about it.
First, I guess the anime could have a bit more action moments.
Second, an important question that I always bring up about this anime is: how, just how, Kensuke and Asaya have a relationship that is way more funnier, loving, and normal, compared to the real world we live in, compared to Masahiro and Kousuke? The second plot love story is what made me finish the anime XD
Another thing is the age of the characters: Kousuke - is 27 or something, and Masahiro is 15...?
Nevertheless, I would recommend it to a person who is new in the shōnen-ai genre, but I think I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is already into Yaoi anime and stuff because I don't think that…

Somehow I gave this show an 8 when it came out and I was a teen. Now, upon rewatching a few episodes as an adult, I'm flabbergasted. How did they get away with a series about a 27-29 yo kissing and sleeping (in the manga) with a 15-17 yo. Ok so what if they have Some cute moments? The shows feels a lot more boring/cliche/predatory in 2024 afted we had stuff like Given, Tadaima Okaeri, Doukyusei, Sasaki to miyano, Stranger by the Sea, which are at least closer to normal lgbt rep and not a mishmash of old yaoi tropes. I guess I never really liked student x teacher, though it could work if there's a time skip and they only start dating later, or meet again after a few years idfk, still icky but it would at least be LEGAL. Seriously, wtf were they on when they decided to make this series. 27 w…

that feeling when they ruined the show with dumb tropes for absolute no reason.
(whatever this is a BL, would have been shocking if it didn't include any absurd shit.)
1. kensuke and hasekura's relationship
their relationship seemed straight up fake.
Kensuke doesn't seem romantically or sexually attracted to Hasekura in any way.
Hasekura seems to manipulate him into it
it looks like kensuke only wants to be close, (as friends)
"could we still be friends if were together?" kind of mindset 2. kousuke and setagawa's relationship
I never realized there was a 12 year age gap between Kousuke and Setagawa
(yes I was retarded enough not to look into it) weirdest part is Setagawa is still a minor...
I wanna wrap it up quick as I can so I dont have to essay on every point
boring show, g…

Hitorijime My Hero embarks on a sort of dual narrative journey. The series endeavors to dissect themes of belonging, forbidden love, and and self-discovery. We learn about the life of a high schooler grappling with the complexities of rekindled friendships and emerging feelings, and another student who finds unexpected guidance and love in his relationship with his friend’s older brother.
The first storyline revolves around a close friendship tested by unspoken affections and conflicting emotions. However, this relationship dynamic uncomfortably broaches the topic of being compelled into a sexual orientation or rushed into coming out this raises concerns about consent and mutual respect. While the intention is to portray a charming and humorous relationship, it often veers into uncomfort…

i used to love this anime when i was younger, but upon rewatching, i realized how problematic both of the couples were. the entire series romanticizes age gaps, student-teacher relationships, manipulation, and toxicity.
though i must admit that if it werent for the issues i listed before, especially the age gap and student-teacher relationship, i would quite enjoy it. there were some cute moments, and the characters were quite enjoyable. unfortunately, these problematic elements are something i simply cannot and will not overlook, and neither should you.
i understand that there arent many anime focused on lgbt relationships for people to choose from, and its frustrating to see so many of them normalize things like pedophilia, unhealthy relationships, and abuse.
but trust me, you can fin…

If you're someone who has never heard of other BL titles like "Sasayaki to Miyano" and/or "Given" (to name my popular favs), "Hitorijime My Hero" you'll like this. Even if it does nothing new on the troupes that BL has continued to live on, you'll like it. It's a nice story, albeit w lacklusture dialogues and a v forgettable storyline, in-the-moment of binge-ing, it's fine.
However, if you're someone who has watched BL titles like "Sasayaki to Miyano" and/or "Given" - "Hitorijime My Hero" is definitely an average show that is skippable.
art style - basic
OST - i honetly didn't even care much to pay attention to them
story - basic & can get annoying after all the couples are established, bcs the drag-on is just to fill the 12-ep quota
dialogues - really nothing great, even though there's…

I am a very great fan of other types or out side of the box animes where age gaps are present. Its a real thing in real life so why shouldnt it be present in an anime?
I love this couple and their dinamic in the entire anime & manga chapters. I loved this couple the moment they vibed with each others and founded out their feelings with each other, growing towards each other and exploring more than they tought it would be. I a fan of age gaps and the fact that Kousuke is a teacher it spices up the entire level of their interaction. Almost forbiden love. But as a BL anime, its a good addition to the other BL animes out there.

I feel like someone needs to balance out the negative ratings from people who think fiction is meant to only depict things that are good in real life. I wonder why you never see violent series getting "1 star! Glorifies murder as a problem solving tool!" Reviews, but romance, especially BL, that has ~problematic~ themes has to be squeaky clean.
Hitorijime my Hero is a cute show with engaging characters and good relationship development, and unless you have a reading comprehension level so low you shouldn't be allowed online without supervision, you should be able to enjoy it without taking it as a guide to real life.

I'm not even going to talk about the actual issues that go into the writing of these characters... but this anime is just outright not it.
The story makes no sense, the characters keep saying one thing repeatedly and then when they do something, their actions just... does not reflect what they are saying or thinking at all. It's like the author doesn't really try to connect the characters' thoughts and their actions at all, much less write a compelling story between the characters to make the viewers want to root for them. The issues raised when it comes to MLM and teacher-student relationships are solid enough to have a potentially good plot, but the buildup is just weird and out of place most of the time and the payoff is... is there even a payoff? Like, I don't really see the culminat…

As far as the score, I went with a four. Generally a four from me just means aspects like story, acting, art, etc. left a lot to be desired, but there was enough there that 1) I'd be open to watching it again someday and 2) I can definitely still see the appeal. Here I gave Hitorijime My Hero a four not so much based on the content, believe it or not, but because this show had a lot of potential but fell flat too many times and just didn't have enough to make up for it, which sometimes made it a frustrating watch. This will be kept spoiler-free.
Story (2/10): The premise is promising, I won't lie, but I think the show lost momentum by not moving Hasekura and Kensuke's arc to the end or intertwining their getting together with Kousuke and Masahiro's. I know that's not strictly following th…

No. Just. No.
The main relationship of this anime is gross, uncomfortable, and inappropriate. It's bad enough that an Adult (28) is pursuing a Minor (16)… But the Adult abuses his position of power, authority, trust, and friendship to manipulate and take advantage of the protagonist.
Hitorijime My Hero actively and continuously points out how this relationship is illegal, inappropriate, and dangerous. The show goes out of its way to remind the audience that this relationship is not healthy or safe… AND THEN DOES IT ANYWAY.
This story sets BL and Gay Stereotypes back 20 years, and reinforces the false idea that gay men are predators. But when a show with this production value and style decides to tackle this content… and CHOOSES TO NORMALIZE inappropriate, dangerous, unhealthy relations…

theme of the show: Morally questionable couple dynamics
The childhood friend couple has a very concerning dynamic of the seme's tendency for blackmailing and gas lighting.......... yeah what the hell and the teacher student couple is just outright inappropriate to begin with.
highly not recommended. watch better BL shows.
I know BL anime is rare and far in between but we deserve better.
The only positive aspect of the show is that there's a character that comments on how gross the relationship between the ADULT TEACHER and the MINOR STUDENT. I really like him -- he's a rad dude.
I also like the fact that they do not completely villainize the neglectful parent of the main character.. She doesn't seem like a obtusely abusive mother -- just a sex worker trying to get by. Is the mothe…

I finished watching Hitorijime My Hero this morning and i liked it a lot at first, or rather tried to convince myself that i did, but now I'm not really sure how i feel about it because there are some bad elements that i just can't overlook.
Story: Before i started watching i thought it was going to be just another cliché teacher-student love story in a high school setting, but i was very interested in seeing it anyway. What i wasnt expecting was the amount of random toxicity in both pairings which made it hard to root for them to stay together. I know unhealthy relationships exist irl and it is a topic that needs to be highlighted and discussed more, but it felt very out of place and was not well executed in this anime. And it certainly didn't need to happen in BOTH of two pairings, just…

I can't... figure out how to review this anime. Legitimately, there were many parts that I would have given a 10 to the anime for had the foundation of the anime not been so extreme. There's going to be some spoilers in here, so look out if you're the type that is very averse to spoilers. I'll try to keep it vague, though.
The age gap between the main couple, I feel, is a pretty big barrier to cross, even considering the differences in consent laws in Japan. Well, not really the age gap but the specific ages of both of these characters. I'd like to address it as a totally wild factor that made the anime as (for lack of a better word) predatory as many other BL stories. But Hitorijime My Hero actually addresses the age gap in the story, so I feel like I have to talk about it in terms of th…

There is a lot - and I mean a lot - to be said about this anime, but in short: This is not a "romance" - it's a story of abuse. This entire story is about a 28 year old predator grooming a 16 year old boy, emotionally manipulating, gaslighting, and taking advantage of him.
I'm not sure why we're glorifying an actual predator (ya'll, Masahiro is 16 and a MINOR being taken advantage of by his 28 year old TEACHER). This isn't 2 adults, it's a child being taken advantage of by an adult.
Stories like this glorify r@p3 and abuse, and normalize unhealthy, toxic, and manipulative relationships. Stories like this are HARMFUL.
(spoiler) One of just many examples of emotional manipulation and psychological abuse: The scene where Kousuke's friends trick (on Kou's orders) Masahiro into thinking Ko…

I, as a lgbtq+ man loved this show and have rewatched it many times because at this point it is one of my go to comfort anime's due to its lower episode count. It's cheesy and has a fun dynamic. I do only have some dislike for kensuke's relationship because it does feel forced and kousuke is an adult. Setegawa is above japan's legal consent age, so legally, it's fine. But I honestly wish he was at least 18 so my moral compass doesn't feel damaged. This show brings a smile to my face overall, and it is worth watching inmy opinion.

Hitorjime My Hero glorifies both grooming and pedophilia and includes horrifyingly cringy and cheesy lines. That's how I would sum it up. The art is good, but the storyline left me dreadful and appalled. The amount of manipulation and toxicity in the relationships between the characters are so painfully obvious, yet all characters choose to dismiss it. Masahiro describing Kousuke as a guy who just happened to be born before him, that he's in love with him; gave me the icks. Why are we normalizing a relationship between a 16 old impressionable boy and a 28 year old man. It is wrong on so many levels and the mere audacity of describing it as "love" is unacceptable. Needless to say, I'm disappointed. Not to mention that this is a mlm relationship and gives horrible representation. Is it reall…

Short Review: Torn back and forth with this Anime. It opened a new perspective compared to other BL Anime / Manga I saw yet. Its interesting to think about the problems with emotional dependencies and burdens presented in the Anime. Still the problems connected with this aren't addressed enough. And I don't mean the consequences (aka "What's if we get caught") but the actual problem with a definitely dependent relationship as well as the age gape. That doesn't only affect the main relationship but also the side-story relationship with Kensou. He doesn't appear mature enough to evaluate his feelings and is on purpose (?!) portraied like that even later on as they're in their relationship. That doesn't feel right at all. To conclude: This series had some interesting ideas and problems brough…

Alright I debated a lot in my mind as I watched the episodes to give this a 6 or 7. I would give 6.5/10 if i could and this is why:- (In Short)
6 because:- I don't particularly like the LIs that much aka Ooshiba Kousuke and Hasekura Asaya especially in the beginning episodes. I felt like they could have written them approach our MCs better. It felt wrong with Asaya giving Kensuke an ultimatum to break their friendship or sleep with him (though it gets resolved) and Kousuke behaving nothing like the older one in the relationship and worrying Masahiro constantly. I just felt it could have been done better.
7 because:- The 2nd half of the Anime really improved my impression and Masahiro is basically worth watching this anime and Kensuke is a gift. Those two, their friendship and both couples…
