Hyakumeku is a masterpiece. Not simply because of its storytelling, art, or characters, but because of how deeply it resonated with me on a personal level. This is one of those movies that manages to do something I believe very few pieces of media can: make you reflect on your own life, your own limitations, and the way you perceive the world around you.
One of the things I loved most was the philosophical contrast between Kaido and Komiya. Their perspectives on life, their ambitions, and the way they approach their craft made me reflect on my own beliefs about what I'm capable of achieving. Kaido's philosophy challenged the idea of accepting limitations as permanent truths. Meanwhile, Komiya's perspective helped me appreciate the importance of seeing things differently, embracing your ow…

If you like sports and the sacrifice they entail, you'll like it. It's realistic, unlike all the other anime.

I hesitated for a long time to watch this movie because I kept thinking, “How can you turn the topic of running into a two-hour movie?” But after finally giving it a chance, the runtime flew by without me even noticing. It was intense and emotional.
They did such a great job showing the passion and feeling of competition. Honestly, it even made me feel motivated to start running myself.
The animation in some moments is so good that it’s just insane. Of course, there are also “simpler” moments, and there are more of them, but simple doesn’t mean badly made, so for me the animation is 8.5/10.
The music in this movie is good. It didn’t exactly give me goosebumps, but it was still solid — 7/10.
The story is really good. I won’t spoil anything, but I was rooting for the characters and genui…

This is a great movie with more layers than it might initially seem to have. It’s not just a meaningless struggle between someone who is born talented and their counterpart who has to work hard to keep up; it’s much more than that. The story demonstrates excellent character development. None of the characters change radically, yet their intentions are clear: you can always get back up and try again, rediscover that feeling of being alive through something you thought had come to an end, and realize that every emptiness can be filled.
On top of that, this message is accompanied by beautiful art and animation. This is definitely a movie worth watching.

As someone who also does a lot of competetive Sports i love this Movie. I really like the way it talks about the challenge of being a pro at a sport and how it consumes your whole life keeping your head on track to not tremble under the mental weight you gotta carry. I also really appreciate the characters. personally i love togashi cause he is the character born with talent that he couldnt keep up with. i think many people can relate to that.
Furthermore I am a really big fan of the animation style.
The only aspect giving this only 9/10 is the pacing. If this would have got a whole season i wouldve drowned in it ig.

I consider this piece to be something personal. It's about the effort required to achieve something and what you sacrifice along the way. It even makes you question why you're doing it and if it's truly worth it.
The plot, involving all the characters, feels like the memories of a past life and the decisions made up to that point.
I wasn't entirely sure about watching this film. But it captures the fears of many and how each of us can confront them.
It had been a long time since I'd felt this sensation of what it means to be able to run on a track.
I was also a field athlete. Although my specialty was middle-distance running (1500, 3000, 5000, and 10,000 meters), I also really enjoyed short distances like 100 and 400 meters. You could say I enjoyed speed more than long distances. The f…

A running sports anime done perfectly - this could be compared to run with the wind however both are equally great at what they try to accomplish and both show different sides of what running truly is about - showing the hard work and determination that one has to have and put in and how to compete in a sport purely because of the joy you feel when you compete and how strongly you love what you are doing and not out of spite - at the end of it all the message portrays how one side can win it all but have no love for the sport anymore and feel no joy whereas the other could lose everything as in suffer a life changing injury but still claw his way back because of the sport that he loves so much and that he would do anything to compete in - just great parallels between both MCc

Can a single ten-second race truly define the entire worth of a human life, or is the relentless pursuit of that apex merely a beautiful, self-inflicted madness? Kenji Iwaisawa’s 100 Meters (Hyakuemu) tackles this existential crisis through a deeply compelling moral core that strips away the romanticized tropes of sports anime to expose the toxic, almost spiritual obsession of elite athleticism. The film utilizes a hyper-realistic rotoscoping technique where every ripple of muscle, desperate stride, and drop of sweat feels raw and visceral. While this avant-garde style occasionally sacrifices traditional aesthetic fluidness, it delivers an unparalleled kinetic impact.
The psychological mirror between Togashi (the natural prodigy collapsing under the crushing weight of expectation) and Kom…

This author has pumped out two modern classical out of nowhere.
I enjoyed their other work way more than I did this, and I think that has to do with the length of the movie compared to the 25 episodes Orb had.
There was more time for them to completely explore different characters and really strengthen their philosophy and sync it with the story, letting different ideologies battle it out with conversations in an entire episode.
Whereas this, has chosen something very simple and primal, like running, to make us think about why we "run".
It does not give you anything concrete, the same way as orb doesn't, but this work of them more so, that's why they show so many different characters, at the end of the day, you should figure out why it is that you "run".
The show plays around with sile…

100 meters is super intriguing and I like all the characters even if they can be corny sometimes.
The premise of having an entire movie rotoscoped is wild and sounds cool and would work best in a realistic setting EXACTLY like this movie, but it STILL doesn't really work. It's like they gave themselves a handicap and made the best movie they could despite of it but it just looks strange, maybe me or the world isn't used to rotoscoping yet or it might just be me.
If you want something visually different, this is it, but being different isn't appealing enough to make it good.
Despite all my hating, I think the mental struggles this portrays is very realistic and can really suck you in if it wasn't for the animation, everything else is strong too.
Refreshing to watch but don't expect this…

100 meters is brilliant,
The theme that this movie conveys is moving, and what I took away from it will stay with me for the rest of my life. This is the best sports film, no question.
The animation throughout is breathtaking. When I heard that this film was going to use rotoscoping in its animation, I was hesitant. But the rotoscope enhances every part of the story. It makes it real and grounded in reality, the movements of the characters, especially in one scene when the main charecter brakes down, hits so much harder,
What I took away was just to do it and follow your passion. Throughout the narrative, the main characters are searching for the reason why they run. And extrapolated out to why we do anything? What I took away is that we do these things because we enjoy them, we find t…

This is a well-put together movie, with beautiful animation and a wonderful, inspiring, story at its core, and it did not resonate with me.
Animation looks really good. There’s a long shot in the middle of the movie with all of the racers lining up, and it is simply gorgeous. Great linework and colors help Uoto’s rustic style really shine. There is a lot of rotoscoping, which can look fine, great, even, but this movie uses so much of it that it looks odd. Some scenes look overdone with how frequently the technique is used. The OST is however excellent; the tracks really get you pumped up, and I love the use of brass instruments. The brass fits really well with running as this movie’s core concept.
Unfortunately, while I can objectively say that the story is tight, it didn’t hit all the…

100 meters... I was already going to like this anime because it's a track n field anime and I easily relate to this, but I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would and honestly I believe anyone who watches this would enjoy it too. Now without trying to sound to bias, this anime is amazing because it showcases what running means to people. It lets us know that running isn't just one answer, it's a series of ideas and that everyone's ideology is true. It's what running means to them and why they continue to chase that feeling. This anime describes the thoughts and emotions behind the characters when running and how a simple 100 meter dash race can convey so many feelings in a matter of seconds. While this anime focuses on the results of the races, I think it mainly shows the audience the…

I'll be honest 90% of the enjoyment I got from watching this came from laughing with a buddy about how bad the rotoscoping is. There were so many points during the running it looks utterly ridiculous, and distracted us from the story because we were laughing so much.
And the frankly Reddit Atheism Tier stuff Zaitsu said in that Q&A made us crack up so badly we had to rewind.
The story is bog standard, sure there's some highs and lows like every sports movie but outside the rotoscoping there's nothing here you've not seen elsewhere.
The main problem is each timeskip takes time to establish itself and it just utterly screws the pacing. Characters also vanish between each one as well and it really kills it because any and all growth just vanished. You hit a climactic moment and assume y…

When in the end their steps sync and we cut to see there younger versions running and then back to the present moment where finally Komiya is smiling and Togashi is crying, this right here for me was the best moment of this film. So beautifully came together and perfectly shows the mentality of both of them.
100 Meters shows the mentality of all kinds of players let it be the ones who were once undefeated, the prodigy, the upcoming hero or the one who has been sidelined. I wish we had got to explore more of there mentality but there is so much you can fit in nearly 100 minutes film. The animation at times do feel lousy like the background are just still and some character movement but the writing is good so that can be looked upon.
I have personally never thought of the running as this i…

Who knew running can reveal what so much about yourself. You end up seeing the mental and metaphorical challenges of sport. But, within the challenge, the thrill and adrenaline pushes life to be exciting for these runners.
Within this story, you follow the runners and their different perspectives of running in competitions.v You get their philosophies through their strengths and weaknesses. No one is alike, yet the drive to strive to be the best is the same. From a prodigy such as Togashi, to a slow learner like Komiya to even experienced runners like Nigami and Zaitsu....even include a legend like Kaidou...they are all representations of different perspectives in life.
The philosophy behind their actions makes the story appealing. From the idea of potential to the point of escaping real…

That feeling then of following the tradition every four years of following the Olympics on the phone, laptop or television sets to watch all the nervous athletes get ready for perhaps the most famous 10 seconds of their life, and then you see Usain Bolt getting ready too for the 100 meters final? That picture really encapsulates what I and many others felt in that one particular race buildup in the movie 100 Meters.
Great animation style and the story, while being simplistic also sometimes gets a bit philosophical (very relatable experiences!) and yet keeps you engaged. Refreshingly realistic character writing, which shouldn't be a surprise considering this was written by the Mangaka of Orb : On the Movements on the Earth, combined with the rotoscoping techniques used (perfect for media…

THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE REVIEW
This is a movie that absolutely came out of nowhere last year, but it seems like it has made quite the impact. Hyakuemu, or “100 Meters”, is a manga by Uoto, who just recently became famous for “Orb: On the movements of the Earth”. This is quite the genre-shift, so i was eager to find out what made this movie special: Was it just a move by the studio to adapt something that already had a big name attached to it, or does this manga really warrant an adaptation of this quality? Let´s find out!
Story – 7/10
The story is extremely simple, even for a sports anime, but this was to be expected because this is just one movie. The main story revolves around our main character Togashi, a gifted child, who thinks all of his problems are solved during the 10 seconds o…

well, what did you expect? it’s based on a manga by uoto, the same author behind orb: on the movements of the earth, so you already know it’s gonna be philosophical as hell. honestly, that just had me excited from the get go. it’s not the type of story that’s gonna spoon feed everything to the audience or be super straightforward. it’s layered, a bit dense at times and that’s exactly my kind of thing.
100 meters is a pretty unconventional sports drama about two guys, togashi who’s naturally talented at running but doesn’t really have any strong motivation behind it and komiya, who isn’t naturally gifted at all but is willing to give absolutely everything to become better than everyone else even at the expense of his health. that contrast between the two characters is what makes the story…

This to be honest was quit a fantastic anime. Showed that not all the sports animes need a super bad, super arrogant etc. rival, just keeping it quit realistic is what made it fantastic, showing athletes lives and strugles, which can go for every sports not just track and field. The animation was also fabtastic, although was a bi janky at times but didn't ruin the enjoyment of the film. The characters were quit great, and again all thanks to making them realistic and not sticking to standart rival tropes in animes. The voice acting was also quit good and did fit the characters and their personalities quit well. the score was also quit good altough also quit fogetable except for one score.
The only problem I did have is that they at some point decided to not show the race rather just anim…
