I couldn't believe the rank of this series! To keep it spoiler free, it is the same creator (Jun Maeda) as Clannad, Charlotte, Angel Beats and other emotional series from Key studio. I don't know how he constantly knows how to tug at my feelings in different ways. I was quite confused with the premise at first but keep watching and it all makes sense. If you like anime that are cute and emotional 100% for you. Characters are great, story is unique still and wonderfully written. Sad to see he is no longer making such stories but many passed works and this, being his last, still truly stuck a cord with me and i'll miss it.

I mean, this is Key(*Visual Arts) we're talking about so you know they're gonna try to make you cry. I didn't cry, but I was sad and it made me think, which I'm content with. I found the cast funny, the main heroine iconic and memorable (she talks funny), and the payoff acceptable. I had a hard time hating anyone, since everybody ultimately wasn't trying to be evil, and that speaks to a complex morality the anime attempts to utilize rather than 'they're bad because bad'.
It isn't, like, super deep in reality, but I appreciate that they created a 'man, this is just fucked' rather than a 'fuck those guys!' since one can't really have you be sad since you'd just be too angry, and Key is already known for doing this well. HOWEVER, I admit they could've done it a little better this time around…

The hate for the anime is massively overblown, and the much maligned ending is nothing out of the ordinary for previous Jun Maeda writing or Key visual novels, like Angel Beats or Clannad. I think people like to jump on the hate bandwagon because it's easier to not have the burden of having to think for yourself. That's most of humanity it appears like now in the digital age, especially for modern audiences who watch anime vicariously through others and don't really know, (or care to know,) about the storied history and culture of the medium in the West (or the East, for that matter).
Therefore, I tell you, potential and/or lapsed viewer this now: if you like to think for yourself and find you have a penchant for doing the opposite of whatever the masses all like to clamor towards, then y…

A beautifully emotional series that mixes comedy with deep, thought-provoking themes about life, fate, and love. It starts off with an eccentric twist Hina, a self-proclaimed god, tells the protagonist, Youto, that the world is going to end in 30 days. At first, it feels like a quirky, lighthearted show, with Hina’s godly antics and predictions providing plenty of humor and charm. But as the story unfolds, it reveals its deeper emotional layers.
What I really loved about the show was how it transformed from a fun, supernatural premise into a story that really hits home. Hina, despite her confidence in knowing everything about the world, is more than just a playful character she’s also deeply vulnerable and carries the weight of the knowledge that everything is about to end. Watching her re…

Top part is a normal review, bottom part is about Jun Maeda & me ranting about what went wrong
Overall the series has a good concept, but fails at the execution. I can really only recommend it as something you should try, but can't encourage you to finish it.
It starts off strong, the idea of a omnipotent god warning a group of kids about the end of the world, then just plays with them is goofy. However, as the story progresses it starts to derail. It looses sight of the message it wanted to convey, weird plot devices start that could have been used differently, and towards the end it completely destroys the MC's decision making process. With all the copium in my body I could go back and find some better explanations for what happened, but I think the series was an disappointment.

The name Jun Maeda might ring a bell to fans of anime adaptations of visual novels from Key that were popular in the 2000s and early 2010s like Kanon, Air, and Clannad with his involvement in their writing. These titles were well known for having light comedy mixed in with heavy drama, romance, and fantasy elements that pushed things rather heavily with suspension of disbelief. Unfortunately, pushing out the same type of storytelling formula with all your works can lead to audiences tiring of someone’s creative works over time. Such is the case with Maeda’s most recent anime made, The Day I Became a God, focused on high school student Yota Narukami meeting a strange girl in nun attire named Hina who claims that the world will end in 30 days and promises to help Yota with his affairs in the…

MAL, of all things, was my first exposure to this anime. I had never heard of it before, and from browsing through the reviews here, I expected a trainwreck. Instead, all I got was another harmless, mediocre show. There's so many of those that have come and gone, that will continue to come and go, that it's weird to single this one out unless you know the context (which you almost certainly do if you're reading this) and how the author not only penned one of the highest rated anime on this site, molded the 'nakige' genre for visual novels and has since become (in)famous for writing stories with sad endings; he also hyped this up as 'the most depressing anime of all time'.
It wasn't, but it's really not THAT bad. I feel like this is more of a 'the higher you are, the harsher you fall' scen…

It was really a fun ride. watchers will really enjoy the first six to seven episodes. it is really engaging and entertaining.
However, after some time lapse the whole plot experiences a 180 degree flip.
But overall, it is a really nice show... don't know why many people criticized it. And the ending was really emotional . I found tears running down my eyes at one moment...not because OF sadness, but I was overjoyed and happy.
Also the animation was good.
The ending is really grt.
everyone should watch this anime. if you haven't watched it yet...watch it immediately... otherwise you are missing a masterpiece.

It's horse shit.
No, it really is just boring, uncreative and full of fillers, you can just start watching ep 9 and you won't miss a thing.
It was so predictable, I could predict whole episodes and the animation was really bad at some points, even though the style looked really good.
The only really good thing about it was the Mahjong episode, that was peak shitpost comedy, but when the anime tried to take itself seriously it really just bled from several wounds and the ending was so unsatisfying, I really just want to impale a spear up the writers ass...
If it either only had gag elements or serious melodrama, it could have been a mediocre show that'd we forget anyways, but this shit's really jut leaves a bad taste in the mouth...

When seeing a work by Maeda, one expects something that makes you feel different emotions, that makes you laugh, feel a lot of empathy for the characters and break down in tears in equal parts, and it partly succeeds, which I will explain below.
The work focuses mostly on humor, and the characters don't have that much depth, except for some of them, but said humor is very entertaining and more than once made me laugh out loud.
There are also moving moments, some are good but didn't give it as much depth as they should, and others feel a little forced, but when it's supposed to get good, it gets good, and it'll bring tears to your eyes.
But believe me when I tell you that the powerful comes in the last four episodes. That's what you came for.
Do you want to cry? You're going to cry profu…

Infuriating. When I consider every aspect of this anime, that is the first word that comes to mind: The infuriating characters, plot, dialogue, music, art, and acting. It's fascinating. I never thought I'd actually find an anime so blatantly terrible that I cannot stand even a single second of it.
For some background, this is Jun Maeda's third original anime—if you're familiar with Charlotte and Angel Beats, you'll know his writing formula. His stories begin as comedy/slice-of-life centered around high school students; in the second half, an incident occurs. Everything becomes melodramatic—with a supernatural twist. In Charlotte, it was superpowers. In Angel Beats, it was the afterlife. In The Day I Became God, it was the end of the world. Like his prior anime, the story is much more comp…

It lures you in with the heavily stereotypical romcom harem but after the first half is done - thats where its unique magic comes to life. Laugh and bawl your eyes out crying. Just watch and go along for the ride.
Comedy is ehhh hit or miss. The big twist, pretty unique but not too big. The ending though brings me life. Not the happiest ending but still a good outcome. Pretty decent animations too especially when protag goes on a tournament.
Protag is as generic as they come. He is dumb and oblivious as hell but charming in his own way. Odin-sama though is the star of the show, and she captures it.
Good anime for a short watch. 8/10.

The Day I Became a God, or as some like to call it, A Poor Man's Angel Beats! Branching from the same creator, Jun Maeda, one would expect a show that is similar. What they get is simply a dumber and inferior version of a similar story. At first glance, Jun Maeda's formula should work perfectly with the end of the world. It did with the afterlife, but no, that is not what is offered. What is given is 8 episodes of complete silliness and then 4 of serious stuff. Angel Beats! managed to weave in serious moments in even the most humorous episodes. The shifts in tone are too sudden, and the stakes are too ridiculous to be taken seriously.
The characters are also nothing to write home about. They are not the worst humans to ever walk the earth or anything, but they lack any moments of signifi…

Very nice visuals and general atmosphere, but is negated by a feeling of shallowness and rushed story to fit it in 12 episodes, I feel this would have played a lot better as a 2 cour show, split into a beginning third of lighthearted viewing, a middle third of a much more gradual tone shift, and a final third that gets more serious. Importantly though, retaining SOME comedic elements throughout would have made for a much stronger series. They were removed abruptly and their absence was sorely missed.
Still an interesting watch if you are into this kind of show, and it really has some fantastic moments. There is genuinely beautiful scenery and I was frequently amused at the characters and their interactions in the beginning of the story. At the beginning, it did a very nice job of portrayi…

Now I believe the reviews. Let's get right into it.
Story; Summer vacation, Youta and his best friend Ashura are out playing basketball. While taking a quick water break, a random girl pops out of no where proclaiming she's a god and that the world is going to end in a months time. Of course you wouldn't believe this from a random stranger... but knowing the weather, which horse it going to win a match and that traffic is going to happen? Is it all just a coincidence? With this proclaimed god now it Youta's life, will he be able to have a relaxing summer and study for his exams? Or will his world take a 180 in an unexpected direction. Art; Beautiful. Sound; Cliché, but no denying that it was enjoyable before/after every episode. Characters; Maaannn, they were so bad. A boy who doesn't kno…

My head hurts whenever i watched this anime because this was the anime that makes me confused. The longer i watched the episode the more dreadful i'm and suddenly i no longer enjoyed this anime.
Want to know why? Because they force every single detail in this anime. Makes it so that the viewer would love it and goddamn guess what? They failed! i even laughed at the ending and mock it because how forced this was. This is just a pure nonsense, combined with angel beats-like anime, mess up everything, and just force everyone idea into the story.
You said that this is the anime i would recommend? I would rather speak to stay away from this anime as this anime wasn't that much of expectations and just wasting the bullshit ton of your time. If you wanted to start watching this anime, just go b…

Here is a super short review that doesn't contain any spoilers but will answer any questions you might have regarding this anime. It's a Jun Maeda anime. That means it has a strong 3 or 4 episodes going in and then it becomes an absolute dumpster fire. The music is the only redeeming thing about this anime outside some comedy skits at the beginning. Because this is a Jun Maeda anime everyone will just become braindead and you'll find yourself hating yourself for watching another thing the man is involved in. If you look at any other review on this site you'll find this to be a recurring theme regarding your time and energy even putting the time to even right this review seems like a waste. I am literally dying as we speak and I am regretting even talking about this anime in hopes you, the…

This show deserves sooooo much better than a 4/10 review. And honestly, I whole heartedly recommend you stop watching after Episode 8. Because if you do it's an easy 7-8/10. But episode 9 introduces a conflict that has absolutely no meaning behind it other than to invoke an emotional response from the viewer after getting them invested in the characters. And the road to resolution is as poorly paved with no real resolution ever reached. Just sort of "well this sucks but oh well" ending. It's just genuinely infuriating to have such a good story get ruined by a lazy and lackluster "because I say so" type plot point. It's clear that the ending was decided before the story was written, which is how most stories are written. But there was no thought or time or motive put into the reasoning as t…

We all have a different opinion that may seem disagreeable for others. Regardless, even after reading some of the negative reviews of others, the expectations that I built up based on theirs weren’t matching with the experience I had watching “The Day I Became a God”.
To be honest, I was caught off guard, especially with how it ended since I didn’t consider the fact that the producer also made Angel Beats. After finding out, I basically had to recall my experience while watching Angel Beats but I can’t seem to remember since it has been a long time since I watched it. Basically, this reminded me of the anime and how I felt similar now that this show had a similar effect to me. Prior to this review, I can’t compare this show with “Charlotte” since I haven’t watched it, yet.
Story: 9/10

So, having glanced over the reviews before writing this, it seems I'm either easy to please or missing something.
Regardless, I'm writing this immediatley after finishing and the emotions this series made me feel are fresh. It's no secret that I'm a sucker for a romance, but that doesn't mean that's all it takes to win me over.
Throughout the series, questions piled one atop another about the reality of what was going on in the world surrounding hina. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, it was thrown right back in my face, leaving me hooked after every new reveal.
In general, the anime is lighthearted to begin with, and the depth of emotion builds as the series progressing, into a crescendo of feelings. Even from the 4th episode, I couldn't help but care about the characters…
