KenIchi: The Mightiest Disciple

KenIchi: The Mightiest Disciple

Introduction

Whenever he is not getting pummeled in the karate club after school, high schooler Kenichi Shirahama can be found with his head buried in one of the many self-help books he carries with him every day. One day, on the way to school, Kenichi accidentally frightens the new student in his class, leading her to throw him down onto the ground. After apologizing for her violent reflexes, she introduces herself as Miu Furinji and asks Kenichi to be her friend. Later that day, after karate club practice, Kenichi is given an ultimatum by one of the other club members: they will fight next week and the loser has to quit the club permanently. While lamenting his imminent defeat in the upcoming fight, Kenichi witnesses Miu fend off three thugs easily. Fed up with being perpetually bullied by those more powerful than him, he asks Miu for tips on how to become a better fighter. She directs Kenichi to her grandfather's dojo, Ryouzanpaku, where several skilled—albeit strange—masters of extreme martial arts have gathered to hone their abilities. Miu promises that Kenichi will become significantly stronger, but only if he manages to stay alive. With those ominous words looming in his mind and the appearance of a criminal martial arts gang known as "Ragnarok" threatening the safety of those around him, Kenichi takes the first step on his journey to become a world-class fighter and a defender of the defenseless. The Mightiest 💛 Vanquish Enmity °VG° °7.5° 100%🔍 minor spoilers only KTMD is classic anime featuring the standard teen-boy--pure-💛-protag that's akin to Speed Racer (70's foundational Japanimation). Except, it's super-duper happy. ⚠ KTMD would be appropriate for tweens, but for the more intense fighting and the bawdiness, including all the TahTeeTahz! Even mom's generous 🅱az🅾ngid🅰s are like sausages on the brink of splitting the casings under a 2nd skin of fabric. One of the masters is The Mightiest Lecher (for comedic effect). Even if he had 10,000 disciples waiting for him back home▶ so what? He's in need of a slap. Mayhap... some day some Brave Warrior will be be fast enough for some carry-thru. There's 00DLES of amazing stuff out there for tweens to attack, including the comple…

Imo, this is one of the best second-rank shonen, which is better than most of its kind and deserves way more popularity. The anime adaptation is not the best and adapts the worst part of the story, the Ragnarok arc, but it's not bad and is decently entertaining. It introduces all the characters, dives into some backstory and shows Kenichi's growth, training and motivation. It also has some comedy elements. It's a basic martial arts story with a bullied boy learning how to fight back – a basic concept – but the execution is just insanely creative, with Nijima, for example, a former bully of Kenichi who is a strategist who connects data, who spreads rumours about him and forms the Shinpaku alliance. His own group of delinquents, which the enemy Kenichi defeats, then joins Miu, his love inter…

The story is pretty predictable but still had some moments surprise. It started out pretty annoying but it gets better after the first few episodes. Good art style the anime was definitely better drawn then the manga. The visuals were probably the best part of the show. The characters were pretty well rounded although they seem pretty one dimensional at first most come and join the good side eventually. Most were pretty predictable because they all had some core principles they would not compromise on. This series really draws out some parts story. The last fight scene was like 5 episodes long and every time is seemed like it was over they added so new fight style and special move out of nowhere just to keep it going. Overall good show could have used more beach episodes.

Kenichi is a nice “Saturday-Morning” TV. It’s not really a great or good show but it does a fantastic job at passing dead time and opens you up to the benevolent underdog story and growth in character and friendship. The first 20 episodes or so are pretty… episodic and forgettable the show really doesn’t get any real entertaining juice until Nijimia shows up and starts propelling the show, I wouldn’t go as far to say he hard carries but he’s a huge focal point of driving the show. The show sometimes focuses too much on gags and it’s obviously directed for 16U audiences, but it still has good value. It is a mediocre show but it’s a nice mediocre.

I have a soft spot for underdog stories. It might be a bit cliché, but I find many of them very inspiring and uplifting. That's why I was willing to give Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple, another shot. My priorities and tastes are changing a lot when it comes to the anime I consume. I had this show on-hold since 2014. A long while before I even made this account. So fuck it, right? Might as well get it out of the way. I'm not going to spoil anything about this show and be as vague as possible. Kinda... Kenichi Shirahama, Age 17, nerdy, milk toast, bland, quasi-self-insert character. Y'know how it goes. Encounters a young, beautiful, blondé girl by the name of Miu Fuurinji. Kenichi, immediately gets his shit wrecked by the big bapples babe. Call it fate or destiny, eventually, the two of t…

This show is a weird one to review. Story is very good but animation is a joke, at least in some shots. In others it's half-decent. At the same time main character is as annoying as shounen anime main character can gets. He is constantly screaming and overreacting to everything making whole thing near-impossible to watch. Characters are in general very well designed and unique, funny in their own individual ways. All except main character. If you can stomach Kenichi from first few episodes, you'll probably have fun watching the rest of the show because he never changes. Even after so much training and so many fights, he's still scared of his own shadow.

My ratings may not make any sense, but I have a different way of viewing it. The more I watch this anime, the more I think about Katekyo Hitman Reborn. The main character cares and protects his friends from harm, and of course, has a crush towards a girl. Then, we have the actions between characters. The animation is different than what we currently see, such as Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Naruto, and so on. It is almost like Fist of the North Star style, but less repetitive animations. In the end, I found out they ended the anime series, even though the manga continued. I hope they create another arc since this anime is very entertaining to watch.

Story 10 Art 4 Sound 9 Character 10 Enjoyment 10 Overall 10 Funniest anime I've ever watched. It's been a long time since I watched an anime as cool as this, you end an episode wondering what will happen in the next episode. For being an old anime, it has a very nostalgic and welcoming comedy, very characteristic graphics of the time. Too bad the full animation didn't come out here, to continue you'll have to see the rest in the manga. The protagonist has a GIANT development. Without a doubt, watch it without fear, this is a work of art.

Battle shounen tend to preach “hard work = results” and “even the weak can be strong”. but almost universally do these messages become drowned out by cheap power ups and hidden inner strength trump cards. Mightiest Disciple Kenichi is one of the exceptions to that pattern, being a battle shounen with a thoroughly average lead character who slowly earns his power through combat training. Emphasis on slow - every technique Kenichi uses can be traced back to a specific regimen. This makes his eventual progression into a strong fighter feel authentic in a way that few other over the top shounen can hope to match. The relentless training also serves as a source of comedy. His masters are eager to push him to inhumane limits, to the point that his training can resemble live torture. One of hi…

A Girl in a trouble. The guy try to save her, but he's weak (more like amateur), but he'll still try. The girl is no ordinary girl. She's adorable, hot, and a great power backing her up. ---- She admires the guy for what he did, ignoring his weakness ; introduces him to her family. No ordinary family, not a bit. ---- Let's see him break his bones, work as a slave, his only motivation the ecchi pictures of his crush. Btw there's other hot milf too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Why this show is special to me?] -- Master-Disciple relationship (not in a weird way XD) -- Various Martial-Arts. (KARATE, CHINESE KENPO, NINJUTSU, MUAY THAI, MMA,...) -- Fair amount of Ecchi -- Protagonist has a crush on only one girl. -- Action-packed. -- I…

I watched this a few years ago and had honestly forgotten about it (one of the perks of having a crappy memory I guess). It's not a bad show and since I've studied a variety of styles of martial arts it did have some appeal to me since that's something that is kinda considered bad form in most media. The backstory is pretty shite if I'm being honest, but the some of the basic aspects and philosophies of different martial arts styles all in one place without the pissing contest of rating which ones are better is rather refreshing. The comedy's not bad, even if it is pretty easy to see most of the jokes coming a mile away. The characters aren't the worst I've seen in the medium, although they can be a little simplistic, there's enough of them that you can overlook how surface level they c…

From zero to hero shounen anime is really an interesting plot in anime world. Well, yes, KenIchi does it well in terms of story, but not perfectly. As the synopsis above, we could see a weak young boy who even can't even protect a woman. The plot goes well, in each episode we could see that boy growing stronger, learning new technique, meeting his eternal rival (you know, shounen things), and ofc getting closer with that woman whom he can't even protect. Apart from having an interesting story with a probably-can-be-said a well written story, there's something which ruin the whole thing and wasting its potential, and it's the animation. The art can be tolerate because it's neither good nor bad, but the animation can't be tolerate, it's pissing me off personally. Why? I can't even tell is t…

A light-hearted action comedy that starts out relatively grounded and then dives into the impossible. The artwork overall is fair, some episodes are better than other, and occasionally you can tell the studio went in for the cheap so they could save up for more cinematic fights later on. The storyline is interesting, but gets ridiculous by the end. Still, I found myself watching just to see what kind of shenanigans would happen next. This is definitely geared towards a younger male viewing demographic. Some of the fan-service is ridiculous and bordering on uncomfortable, but I suppose it draws attention. Overalll, an enjoyable tale about self-respect, courage, friendship, and learning to stand on your own two feet.

This is anime is adapted from one of my favorite mangas. The plot is pretty simple, a weak and helpless young high school boy becomes an elite Martial artist under the guidance of six of the world greatest martial artist. He is introduced to ryouzanpaku, a world class dojo, by his classmate/love interest; where experts in jujitsu, Chinese kenpo, mauy tai, karate, and weaponry live. From the lovable Apachai to the intelligent Akisame (one of my top 10 anime characters of all time), the characters in the show will keep you laughing and enjoying the whole series. The fight scenes are really good too, second to none. I completed the manga that this anime was adapted from and it is amazing! The anime only covers over about 1/4 of the whole manga, which is a shame because the best part picks up…

*May contain minor spoilers* Story 6/10 Weak boy, who want to protect hes friends. Searches the help of ''masters in fighting'' and undergoes hellish training. Unfortunate, the fights aren't as epic as i hope they would have been, a lot of the anime feels like fillers instead of anything actually happening. Art 7/10 The art is a bit older, nothing fancy. Sound 6/10 Nothing special they could have done a better job Imo. Characters 8/10 Nice development in the MC Ultra strong masters who care about the mc Enjoyment 5/10 Super slow paced imo, never to the point. The bad persons suddenly become all good persons once defeated, and horrible jokes. Overall 6.5/10 Definitely not all that bad, but the slow paced and the ''this anime is for kids'' feeling I get with everyone suddenly beco…

This show was surprisingly enjoyable. I'm no fan of shounen, and it is not a supreme masterpiece, but this anime manages to provide good comedy mixed with fighitng, and maintains good pacing throughout most of its episodes. Definitely recommended. Story: Good and fairly simple. Final conflict was a bit underwhelming, but the story mostly worked as a background for comedic plots and it worked for those purposes well. There's wide array of gags, running gags, etc. Art: Above average. Characters are a bit more detailed than what you'd usually see in anime with lower budget. There's barely any reused scene (i've spotted about two), characters are not cookie-cutter (visually). Sound: Decent music, solid voice work. I've recognized voices of Motoko Kusanagi (from GiS) and Yakumo Tsukamoto (Sc…

Amazing.Absolutely amazing.A must watch for all martial arts fans but also for those who are not into martial arts(mostly if you are into character development). This anime got me into martial arts(shotokan karate) and I bet it will get other people into martial arts as well.Just finished the manga (9/13/2016 exactly two years after the manga originally ended)and it was mind blowing.I highly suggest that after watching the anime you read the manga. You can watch the OVA's too.I am astonished I never thought it would impact me in such a way.The story was very well done the characters are very loveable and original, especially Kenichi. His journey from zero to hero was beautiful.I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end.I highly suggest you watch it.And by the way tell more people about this se…

Story: 6 The story of this anime is lacking. I'm sorry. I'm going to say it. It's cliche, repetitive, and predictable. However, at the same time, it's somehow intriguing in a way I can't explain. Also, Kenichi was bullied as a kid but we don't really get to see any of that. It kinda stunk. Art: 7 There's nothing wrong with the animation but nothing that special about it either so I'm giving it a 7. Sound: 7 I really felt like giving this an 8 but I stuck with a 7 because so many more animes have a better soundtrack. But I liked the music. It fit. Character: 6 There isn't much strong character development, so I'm giving it a 6. Obviously Kenichi changed but I don't feel as it should get a higher rating. I dunno. I'm sticking with a 6. Enjoyment: 8 I enjoyed it. Watching it, I strengthe…
