Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files

Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files

Introduction

One fateful day, Yuusuke Urameshi, a 14-year-old delinquent with a dim future, gets a miraculous chance to turn it all around when he throws himself in front of a moving car to save a young boy. His ultimate sacrifice is so out of character that the authorities of the spirit realm are not yet prepared to let him pass on. Koenma, heir to the throne of the spirit realm, offers Yuusuke an opportunity to regain his life through completion of a series of tasks. With the guidance of the death god Botan, he is to thwart evil presences on Earth as a Spirit Detective. To help him on his venture, Yuusuke enlists ex-rival Kazuma Kuwabara, and two demons, Hiei and Kurama, who have criminal pasts. Together, they train and battle against enemies who would threaten humanity's very existence. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Yuu Yuu Hakusho may be one of the older animes around, but man is it a golden one. To start of our main character Yusuke is a delinquent who doesn't enjoy school and has a kind of shitty home life. But of course that isn't all there is to him, he also has a protective heart (not to be confused with a kind one). I love to see a protagonist whose personality isn't being a doormat to everyone around him to show of how 'kind' he is. Yusuke is protective to those he sees as younger/weaker than him. This is what starts off the whole story with Yusuke protecting a little boy. The story starts off quick paced, and it shows us within 3 episodes the basics of the world of YYK. The animation is definitely something that might hold people back. The animation can be a bit slow at times or have unclea…

Growing up in the Philippines, Yu Yu Hakusho (Ghost Fighter) is considered to be one of the most iconic, early anime staples out there. It influenced two of the Big 3 Animes which are Naruto and Bleach and its very well-renowned especially to the earlier generations. But its just somewhat annoying that a lot of people just d*ckride it for more than what it is, objectively. Do I recommend watching it? I think it's worth it of your time. Its a good blast-in-the-past experience. Animation (6.5/10) - For its time in the 90s, its quality is not terrible. Considering it was also a weekly release. But of course we have to come in terms with the fact that its characteristic is distinct for its time period. Still settings, distinct stop-motion movements, repetitive frames, vibrant coloration and s…

I considered watching this because the same creator of HxH made this and let me tell you this series did not disappoint! I loved the dynamics of each character: the aggressive and bad ass nature of Yusuke, the stubborn and persistent attitude of Kuwabara (my favorite character!), the arrogant and unpredictable nature of Hiei, and the calm and calculated character of Kurama. Also how can I forget Botan and her amazing and relatable personality? (she had the best outfits!). This show was a total comedic relief for me and also gave me a soft spot and sometimes left me emotional seeing Yusuke in his most vulnerable moments. The fight scenes had me hyped, I loved the dark tournament arc and seeing all the characters show out their potential and meeting new fighters. Soundtrack was amazing a…

As someone more interested in more plot driven shounen like Naruto/One Oiece rather than more simple battle shounens like Dragon ball/Hunterxhunter i was surprised by how much i ended up enjoying this. Sure enough it doesnt have as deep lore, world building or plot as previous examples but somehow i really enjoyed this. Sure enough its a slow start. Its really in the dark tournament things get going. After that theres two more arcs which starts to build towards something that could be more plot driven. But unfortunely it leaves so little time to it and feels underdeveloped and dropped to quickly. While dark tournament is good i feel the later parts got to little time in comparison. But yeah overall i enjoyed it more than i thought. Some of the best shounen fights. The tension is unlike…

Overall, this anime was slightly above average. The extreme high praise is due to nostalgia clouding the perception of older viewers, and it being early its genre. Though the extremely negative reviews are coming from people comparing it to Hunter x Hunter. I'll say that I came in with an open mind, and to judge based on how I personally enjoy it. I'm not going to compare it to Hunter x Hunter, and I'm not going to excuse the writing simply because "it's old". With that said, here's my review! I will say that the characters are solid. The designs are unique and the motivations are unique, for the most part. I really enjoyed Hiei, Kuwabara, Kurama, Kuwabara's sister (Shizuru), Toguro, Genkai, and Sakyo. Though even Hiei and Kuwabara would frustrate me at times, I overall did like them. Tha…

YuYu Hakusho is a battle shonen about fighting demons. It’s also an examination of morality and what drives people to make the decisions they make. It’s also a tribute to the complexity and variety of the bonds that bring people together and make life worth living. It’s also a love story. One of the best-written and most lovable casts I’ve ever seen. There are a million lines, images and moments that have and will continue to make me think and make me feel on a deep level. If there is one weak point it’s that the final arc feels rushed, in large part due to the limitations of the material they were adapting. In spite of this, the arc works with what it has and makes deviations from the source material where necessary, resulting in an ending that is in my opinion more complete and s…

It is now 2024, and Dragon Ball and Hunter x Hunter have exploded in popularity in the anime industry. Regarded as some of the best in the industry, it makes me feel upset that most people aren't actually aware of Togashi's YuYu Hakusho as much as I think they should. Combining Togashi's masterful craft of storytelling and characters, as well as battles that rival onto Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball, YuYu Hakusho is a work that everyone should experience at least once in their anime-watching careers - especially if you're a fan of the old eighties and nineties style of anime. For those who adore Hunter X Hunter, they will come to see how YuYu Hakusho really was the blueprint work for Toriyama, his "concept sketch" if you will. For those who are not familiar with Hunter X Hunter, you're still…

My only anime review for an artist displaying a full fiction metaphor adaptation of what it means to leave arrogance behind and getting level capped and then forced to work with idiots to trace that arrogance alongside just enough to complete the goal of whom phased off their arrogant nature. Probably their neighborhood God or something the cat dragged in. Enjoy the anime for what it is, good entertainment; appreciate the writer for how their messages are conveyed. I watched this show so much that an example of how much you'll like this show is you'll be cruising through, you discover some backgrounds to the characters casted certainly, but after the story is laid out you find hints of where those stories may have derived from. What boxes this writer had to go through, circles he had to…

Yu Yu Hakusho is a show that can't be recreated no matter how hard one may try. Despite being nearly 30 years old it's aged perfectly; I truly think that this show has captured what makes pre-digital animation so great. The characters are unique and dynamic, as well as how the soundtrack and animation bend to fit in their emotions in a believable way. All this and more is why I would recommend you watch this classic anime. Story(9/10): The story is flawed as it is the authors first attempt at writing battle shounen, as well as one of the first shounen ever, however in spite of the fact it is what made the blueprint for a shounen story. It's simple and enjoyable arcs are able to captivate the viewer for longer than most and the world, characters, and situations they're put in are all uniqu…

Rating: 10/10 Yu Yu Hakusho is nothing short of a timeless masterpiece that continues to captivate audiences across generations. From its gripping narrative to its well-developed characters, this anime stands as a shining example of excellence in the shonen genre. The story follows Yusuke Urameshi, a delinquent teenager who unexpectedly finds himself thrust into the role of a Spirit Detective after an untimely demise. What unfolds is a journey filled with intense battles, profound friendships, and moral dilemmas that transcend the typical tropes of the genre. One of Yu Yu Hakusho's greatest strengths lies in its character development. Each member of the main cast undergoes significant growth, making it easy for viewers to connect with and invest in their journeys. Yusuke's evolution fro…

I can see why many animes were inspired by this great anime. A classic run that probably inspired many other mangakas or anime creators, especially Bleach and Naruto. Some characters’ designs, personalities and writings almost resemble characters from Naruto. Meanwhile, the storyline heavily reminded me of the bleach. Season 3 of this anime, reminded me of Bleach’s season 16 (the lost agent arc) as well as seasons 4&5 (Bount arc). The power of friendship and emotions also reminded me of One Piece and Fairy Tail. Love the animation style. Great storyline but the progression was a bit boring sometimes. The mood setup was not strong enough for me to keep binge-watching the entire series, unlike HxH. The voice talents were awesome, perfectly matched with their respective characterisation. Ap…

Arguably one of the greatest shonen anime EVER !? The story can be divided mainly in two parts. The first 2 parts were peak ! Now you may think 3rd part ain't good ,,but no that would be wrong .The 3rd part was just different though it could have been even better by giving disastrous war instead of organized fights in last part.. Story is awesome, what else can you expect from the great Yoshihiro Togashi ? There were some unrealistic moment though after all its a shonen ,but still liked those moment. In some moment you will get ultimate goosebumps .. MC is totally BADASS *Even the animation was good considering how old it is 9/10 OVERALL The last episode just hits different !! Totally recommended for everyone

Yu Yu Hakusho is the greatest battle shounen of all time. There are a ton of things about this show that I find amazing, but the way it handles mature themes is my favourite. The characters have actual depth and layers to them that get peeled over the course of the show. And it mixes more mature themes with lighter ones very well. As the story unfolds, we see the grim reality of the world these characters live in. It tackles topics related to morality, death, mental illness, existentialism, anger, revenge, and life. Many battle shounen's tackle similar topics, but they never fully develop and I always tend to get left disappointed. And part of me felt this would be like that when I rewatched it for the first time since 8th grade. But no, it was the opposite. I found so many things that I…

Its ok... For a 90's shounen anime its kinda impressive but its didn't age too well. Don't get me wrong I still enjoyed the show none the less but it's not even close to one of the best shounen ever made. My biggest issue with the story is the lack of identity.every arc the tone of the show changes drastically and new ideas are put in out of nowhere without much explanation. There were 2 things that I really liked. Team Urameshi were a very good and interesting cast of characters that made me keep watching even tho the plot went of the rails (especially Kuwabara who was the most relatable protag) And of course The Dark Tournament which was the whole reason I decided to pick up the show in the first place. And while it wasn't perfect the battles that were good we're really good (Fight ag…

On the 10th of April 1991, Yoshihiro Togashi proceeds to release the absolute masterpiece that is YuYu Hakusho. This anime has to have the best characters I have seen. YuYu Hakusho follows Yusuke and his spirit detective travels through some of the best arcs I have ever seen in anime (the dark tournament being well known as the best tournament arc in anime by many). Yusuke meets many characters who become part of 'Team Yuremeshi', Kuwabara, Hiei and Kurama. These characters have some of the best dynamics with each other and in general will make you happy. One of the main characters, Kuwabara, is the best character I have ever seen in all of media. He is such a funny, loyal character who is the most stupid thing I have ever seen. If you like Polnareff from JoJos Bizarre Adventures, imagine…

YuYu Hakusho is not perfect but it's one hell of an anime. As I write this, I'm rewatching this show yet again because of how good it is. The animation is not what makes it great, even though for its time it's pretty good. The dub is one of the best I've ever heard. The music can complement the scene or stick out, giving that extra emotional punch. Its Dark Tournament arc is the best tournament arc in shonen. There are many things the show does, but what makes YuYu Hakusho one of the greatest anime of all time is its characters. If you've watched HXH, you can see bits of its beginnings in YYH. While HXH may be better, YYH has a superior main cast. Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei will always be my favorite main cast in anime. Watching each character develop as the show goes on is amazin…

The show starts mostly underwhelming; goes into straight up awful and disappointing by the end of the Dark Tournament arc; then goes on to its best written and IMO its only good arc, the Chapter Black; then hastily finishes neatly but underwhelmingly, supposedly diverging from the manga which the author didn't even want to work on at that point. I wanted to see hxh's older sibling show, and even if it was mostly underwhelming mixed in with awful, it wasn't all bad. Crazy how much better hxh is, but there were hints of that brilliance in the Chapter Black arc which I could guess might've been even better if the author was given more freedom to finish it as he intended.

This review will have no direct spoilers !warning!: this review will be biased due to it being my first and personal favorite anime. Yu Yu Hakusho is an anime I hold near and dear to my heart and started my love for anime in general. my love for this anime shows no bounds so reviewing it from a professional standpoint will be hard but i will try my best. Pros: -This anime has my favorite cast of characters in all of anime. The way the main cast interacts with each other is brilliant and I've never -watched a show with characters I've enjoyed as much as these ones. -This anime has my favorite arch in all of anime. tournament arch's are my favorite and the dark tournament is the best tournament arch I've ever watched. -I don't care what anyone else says I think the animation still ho…

I am very conflicted on how to rate this series, I really loved it overall, but I can't bring myself to give it a 9 for various reasons. The story is very well written (in the first 75 or so episodes, we'll get to that), it's engaging, it bounces off the characters and makes them develop and most of all it has very entertaining battles with good stakes and character motivations; the fact that it still holds up 30 years later speaks to how good the writing is. The best thing about Yu Yu Hakusho's story are its characters, you get quickly attached to these funny, charming and loveable people that have a strong and believable friendship, it really is the highlight of the show watching them interact and have fun together. Now this all seems too perfect and in fact, as I was watching, I was s…

Has a bit of a slow start, but sticking around for the ride definitely pays off The perfect mix of exciting battles, heartfelt character moments, and a ton of laughter I'm not usually that into prolonged battles lasting episodes and episodes and tend to even get bored with them, but the tournament arc of Yuu Yuu Hakusho was one of my favorite parts of the show The battles are very imaginative and paced to be bingeble Characters are impeccable, well developed, there's someone for everyone to relate too The final arc, though a bit rushed, provides a nice insight into the characters minds
