I Want To Eat Your Pancreas

I Want To Eat Your Pancreas

Introduction

The aloof protagonist: a bookworm who is deeply detached from the world he resides in. He has no interest in others and is firmly convinced that nobody has any interest in him either. His story begins when he stumbles across a handwritten book, titled Living with Dying. He soon identifies it as a secret diary belonging to his popular, bubbly classmate Sakura Yamauchi. She then confides in him about the pancreatic disease she is suffering from and that her time left is finite. Only her family knows about her terminal illness; not even her best friends are aware. Despite this revelation, he shows zero sympathy for her plight, but caught in the waves of Sakura's persistent buoyancy, he eventually concedes to accompanying her for her remaining days. As the pair of polar opposites interact, their connection strengthens, interweaving through their choices made with each passing day. Her apparent nonchalance and unpredictability disrupts the protagonist's impassive flow of life, gradually opening his heart as he discovers and embraces the true meaning of living. I don't know how to start this review because that hit me harder than I thought it would. The animation was gorgeous and I swear they rotoscoped some of it, the voice acting was incredible and it really helped sell the storyline, the writing was phenomenal and there were moments where I genuinely teared up and there was a scene that very nearly broke me, which a film hasn't done in a while. The music was also beautiful and it helped fit the scenes really well. I think of the romance anime films I've seen, this one is up there with A Silent Voice, but with this film, I nearly broke down crying, so it slightly edges it out. The biggest issue I had was the amount of times it felt like it was going to end, but didn't, but then again, it's such a beautiful tragic story. One day, I want…

Sometimes words are not enough, sometimes things go before you catch up. This anime tells exactly that, you won't know what I'm saying until you watch it The story aims to tell you that the things you expect most can come from even the most unexpected places and that even the most unlikely things can happen The characters can feel too perfect, but as time goes on, you can understand their head structure. My favorite aspect of anime is that they don't continue like real life, and unfortunately they don't continue. This anime has awakened those feelings, I wish nothing had happened like this.

I Want to Eat Your Pancreas is a remarkably poetic and sublime anime where every element aligns perfectly to strike a chord in the viewer's heart. The film beautifully captures everyday life through stunning plays of light and color, paired with seamlessly fluid animation. The visual art is further enhanced by delicate dialogues and a gentle soundtrack that perfectly complement each scene. More importantly, this anime proves once again how Japanese animation has evolved to address very well mature audiences, given the sheer depth and seriousness of the themes it explores. This brings to my mind a quality I previously admired in Makoto Shinkai’s 5 Centimeters per Second, an exceptional ability to portray human emotions and social connections through animation. Indeed in I Want to Eat Your…

The film "I want to eat your pancreas" or "Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai" is no short of a masterpiece. there are many anime which are classified as a "masterpiece" which tbh, ruining the rating and somtimes people go overboard and say that every anime they have seen is a masterpiece. but i can comfortabely say that this film is in the likes of generational classics like Attack of Titan (I could've added more but this is prolly the only universal non-debateable one) Anyway we arent here to discuss bout what a masterpiece is. So if you are a person who just got into anime and wants to explore some more niche anime, this one shouldnt be your first pick, because quite frankly, this film is not fro begineers. the film is definately not a classic romance yet its not something that you can classify…

A very generic tragedy. If you end up liking it, that's all fine, nothing wrong with it, but I personally am not interested in being shown for the millionth time that death can be sad and tragic. No shit. I've seen 1000 other pieces of media that have covered this exact thing. The difference between something interesting and something boring is what is explored in proximity to that concept; unfortunately, this movie brings nothing to the table beyond it. It's just one big softball, very low-hanging fruit. Regardless, a lot people are easily moved by the fragility of mortality, and as a result, this gets highly overrated. If you want something less surface-level, this will not be interesting to you.

A wonderful love story that teaches you to not take life for granted and a lot of time to do whatever you want to do. This was really good I did enjoy it and I felt some sort of connection to the themes of the movie however I don’t understand why everyone thinks this is incredibly sad. Yes, it’s a bit emotional. But that’s it don’t get my wrong it’s really good but I feel like some people might over hype it Overall it’s good but doesn’t stand out as a movie like suzume etc does it works on its own but it’s very similar to clannad and other shows Yes I would’ve liked to see more so if it was a series I’d rather that not a movie but it was good I can’t complain 7/10

I went into the anime thinking it’d be another typical sad anime romance. But it hit different... The movie is super low-key. There are no crazy plot twists every 10 minutes, no overdramatic screaming. Most of it is literally just two awkward teenagers talking, walking around, joking about dumb stuff. And somehow that’s exactly why it works. Their conversations feel natural, almost improvised, like actual people instead of anime characters. You kinda forget you’re watching fiction after a while. Sakura carries the whole emotional energy of the film. She’s not written as the cliché tragic sick girl, she’s more like someone who already accepted reality and just wants to experience normal life before it ends. Meanwhile the MC is socially closed off af, and watching him slowly open up is hon…

The anime itself is quite debatable at certain moments, especially when it comes to the protagonist. However, the work stands out among others by delivering a sudden emotional impact to the viewer — something rare in this genre. At the same time, it remains fluid, never rushing through details or “forcing new information” into the story, except at the peak of the plot, where this break in pattern was necessary. I didn’t set any expectations when I started watching it, and halfway through I found myself wondering, “Why did I take so long to watch this masterpiece?” This is the only anime that has ever made me cry. I regret watching it only now — it has become my favorite anime. I highly recommend watching and rewatching it.

The people that say the story was predictible really are lost in life. When have you forgotten what it represented to be alive? Enjoying the little things, admiring the honesty, embracing love and pain. This is not a plot twist anime, or a sci-fi brain wreck. It's a simple story, realistic characters, honest dialogues and true emotions. And it hits. I haven't cried like this in a while, it feels good. Sadness and joy are two faces of the same coin, and there's a certain beauty in that. It's late now, tomorrow is a new day, and I'm looking forward to it the heart filled with strong emotions. This was a masterpiece, and I do recommend it.

I avoided this anime for years, thinking it was just another cheap tearjerker: a terminally ill girl meets a boy who does everything he can to make her happy, leading to a predictable, heartbreaking finale in a hospital room. I couldn't have been more wrong. This anime tackles multiple themes at once, approaching them in the most human and realistic way possible. With only 108 minutes it's obviously difficult to get attached to a character, but this work manages to make you connect with individual emotions. It builds a connection between you and what the protagonists are feeling, making you feel a part of their "brief" world; a world you know will end, a world you know has a fixed stopping point in the final chapter. And yet, it makes you hope. It never tells you things will be dif…

Perfect! I also saw Silent Voice this week and just like there, I am speechless here too. This is one of the best films ever, if not the best. The story completely absorbs you, the characters are wonderful and you enjoy every moment while you can... I also like the author's approach, where he shows us right from the beginning where we are and where it is heading, but still fills the story with a lot of joy and happiness, where you don't worry about anything. The biggest "hit" for me came when I was writing a text message, where I held my breath, especially because I thought it was still early, the epilogue was also good anyway and honestly this is probably the first film that made me shed a tear. ❤

This movie presents a beautiful love story, that loses most of its impact due to its poor pacing along with the predictive nature of its narrative. If you watch the two first scenes of the movie, you can basically predict 80% of the plot, so the execution of this film would need to be impeccable to overcome this problem, yet the pacing is harmed by the underwhelming writing. For an animation that consists of 90% dialogue, you really need to excel at it, which is not the case here. The dialogue is bland, uninspired, too lengthy and unrealistic, and it starts with the title - 'I want to eat your pancreas' is one of the cheesiest lines I've seen. Another example is a long dialogue scene in which they mention 'The Little Prince'; that conversation is at least twice as long as it needed to be.…

I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting. The earnestness and sincerity of Sakura and Haruki's relationship is perhaps the film's greatest strength. So is its choice to center on the truth that humans were created as relational beings, who need love and community to thrive. Watching Haruki slowly open himself to including others in his life was moving. As was the film's implicit message to viewers - to treasure the world's beauty and the ones we love with the days we are given. That said, what prevents me from giving this a higher score was the comparative weakness of the third act. Most of the right pieces were there, but they weren't executed quite as well. In particular, the animation in the planets/stars sequence has not aged well - which I found distracting from the emotional…

I didn't really enjoy the movie. While the emotional tone is consistent and the visuals are beautiful, the story itself felt quite predictable and, in my opinion, not particularly deep. The characters follow familiar tropes, and much of the plot unfolds in a way that didn't surprise me. The only truly unexpected part was the twist at the end, which did catch me off guard. Still, even that wasn’t enough to leave a lasting impact. Overall, I wouldn't strongly recommend it. Because the story is just below average. That said, it does have a few touching moments that some viewers might appreciate more than I did.

There are no characters here. The main duo are: Generic self-insert guy who is explicitly a blank slate devoid of any character aside from the 1-note of the original novel author's self-fellation of books, he likes books, he reads books, he's a librarian, books books books, library library library, Le Petite Prince, diary diary diary, texting texting texting. The girl is generic dying perfect dreamgirl who exists to throw herself at the MC and force him to learn the wonders of generic socialization one childish platonic crush date at a time. The other students (who are all laughably barely present noncharacters) are assumptive angry manipulative assholes who refuse to allow her any agency as a person and bully the guy they don't know for no reason just because he interacted with her. Of co…

"I Want to Eat Your Pancreas" The film reminds us that death is not the true tragedy never truly living is. We often wait for the "right moment" to connect, to love, to change, without realizing that time is indifferent to our hesitation. Sakura’s presence is fleeting, but the impact she leaves behind is eternal, just like the memories we carry of those who have shaped us. The animation and soundtrack enhance the emotional depth of the story, creating a delicate yet powerful atmosphere. The film doesn’t rely on melodrama but instead finds beauty in subtlety quiet conversations, stolen moments, and unspoken emotions that linger long after the credits roll. "I Want to Eat Your Pancreas" is not merely a tearjerker; it’s a reminder to live fully, to love fearlessly, and to embrace the unce…

THE GOOD: This movie is a tearjerker. Which is good, because sometimes you need tears to understand what life really is, and an anime that starts with the funeral scene of one of the MCs might help. We live on borrowed time, you'd better live yours to the fullest, and never alone: maybe not the most original theme of all times, but it's wrapped up in a simple story that will get to your emotional self. Solid production especially in terms of direction. Visuals and animation are also well done. Functional OST, it perfectly fits the show, with nice thematic material and interesting developments: special mention to the track used to accompany Haruki's reaction to the TV news, its dissonances in harsh contrast with the rest of the sweet soundtrack masterfully depict the MC's emotions. Also, go…

Say what you want about this being generic or not different enough (Like thats a factor of quality). The story being told is easy to resonate with and it makes sense allot of people may not feel any connection to the characters, I think it comes down to all our different personalities and experiences. This movie will make you cry and you've been told that 2000 times before watching it, yet you still cry, because from the very second it starts it almost smells like you're at deaths door. The movie feels very aware of who's watching it and how they think. The most popular show with a similar experience would be "Your lie in April" which has way higher quality and more time to flesh out so much but that doesn't mean "I want to eat your pancreas" is bad. Many people dislike the "mediocrity"…

This is the second movie that connected with me emotionally. The story was very sad, and although I didn't cry while watching it, I truly felt it in my heart ❤️. (By the way, I forgot the characters' names, but I absolutely loved this movie.) The reason I didn't cry might have been because my mind wasn't in a good place at the time. The story didn't focus on any frictional thing at all; it was entirely based on real-life situations. I especially liked the way the relationship between the two main characters developed. At the beginning, the male lead was very unsocial, but this changes as the movie progresses. The film also has some very interesting scenes, and at times, the animation exceeded my expectations. I became emotionally attached to the male lead because of his character develop…
